Well folks, it is truly the end of an era. Spencer Gifts in CenturyIII Mall is closing. Spencer Gifts is one of those stores that has been in the mall since the beginning, the very last of the originals (except for JCPenney).

Weekly Walking Club: Bearing Witness To A Dying Mammoth _ Century III Mall, West Mifflin

“This is a weekly walking club in which people get together on Sunday afternoons and walk in one of the parks for a couple of hours.”

“Ted Zellers recently brought to my attention a different kind of beast. Something that will soon join these ranks of the abandoned and forgotten but is still in the throes of its last breaths, The Century III mall in West Mifflin. The death of the American Indoor Mall has been a topic of national interest in recent years, spawning creative ideas for repurposing the infrastructure like this proposal for creating 'micro-apartments' out of a failing mall in Providence, RI. The Century III Mall has also been cited for its decline and notably lost one of its anchor stores, Macy's last month. Lets take the opportunity while we still have it for a very unusual, nostalgic indoor walk and a look at the ghost of retail past. Also there's a two story carousel inside the mall that we should definitely all ride.”
