Ethereum Price – Ether Outlook Unclear
Ether is slightly moving down on Friday, Dec 21, trading at $117.18, reports Dmitriy Gurkovskiy, Chief Analyst at RoboForex.
Technically, an upward correction is coming. Previously, the price made a new low, although not a key one, then it converged and broke out the previous descending channel resistance. On H4, the ascending trend reached 23.60% Fibo, but this is only an intermediate point, though. The price is likely to move next to 38.20% ($135.20) and 50.00% ($152.00). The key support is meanwhile at $80.86.
On H1, Ethereum is quite steadily moving within an ascending channel. Still, there’s nothing out there that may prevent the price from reversal. If the uptrend predominates, it may hit the current resistance and move to the upper projection channel at $135.20. However, with the Stochastic diverging, a local pullback is very likely as well. In the latter case, the first target will lie at the short term ascending channel support at $105.95; then, the price may move to $98.00.
Western Union is ready to work with crytos, which is regarded as a positive news for the entire crypto market. The company is actively testing the environment, and at some point in time it may become a great opportunity for WU, as involving cryptos will also involve a quick and safe information transfer technology.
Hikmet Ersek, the WU CEO, said in summer he was not going to work with cryptos, as no global banks acknowledge bitcoin or altcoins, and thus WU did not need them either.
Another news that is worth mentioning is that Vitalik Buterin, the Ethereum founder, sent $300,000 to a few startups.
Oct 2018 @fredwilson w/ "tough love" comments on Eth
TLDR; He says Ethereum isn't killing it, they're blowing their lead. They're wittling value away by missing ship dates & are lacking basic operational leadership to get shit down
What do you think?https://t.co/kclM08t5s6
— Ryan Sean Adams (@RyanSAdams) December 18, 2018
This happened after Preston Van Loon, Prysmatic Labs founder, discussing the platforms’ opportunities and promotion. Later, Buterin attached a link, which proves the 1,000 ETH transfer to the startup. In the same way, Vitalik sent a transfer to Sigma Prime and ChainSafe.
Buterin said he was not an “Ether giveaway guy” in order to avoid crypto fraudsters. Yet, eventually, he proved to be one.
Meanwhile, ConsenSys is ready to get rid of some projects and, eventually, cut some jobs, which is negative for Ether, as this company is one of those that develop the Ethereum ecosystem.

Buterin funds startups, Coinbase to pay users, and Civil to press on despite ICO.
Buterin Gives $300K to Ethereum Startups
Vitalik Buterin, the co-creator of Ethereum (and ostensibly a "non-giver of ETH"), has just donated 1,000 ETH to three blockchain startups – seemingly, in response to a tweet.
It all started when Preston Van Loom, a software engineer at Google and co-founder of Prysmatic Labs, tweeted, "Our biggest distraction @prylabs is that we are still working full time for other jobs. Even with recent grants, it's hardly enough to take the whole team full time with significant pay cuts and it's certainly not even for us to scale the team to where we need it."
To this, Buterin tweeted, "Just sent 1000 eth. Yolo." This was followed by two more requests, from ChainSafe Systems and SigmaPrime, which Buterin also honored. All three companies are working to develop Ethereum 2.0, the cryptocurrency's next proposed iteration.
Coinbase to Pay Users to Test Crypto
Crypto exchange Coinbase has come up with a novel idea to get new users to try out cryptocurrencies: pay them.
In an initiative announced Wednesday, Coinbase users can earn 0x (ZRX) by watching videos and taking a few exams. The average participant stands to earn...maybe the equivalent of a regular Starbucks coffee. 0x is a token that can be used to facilitate the trade of other tokens via a decentralized exchange.
ZRX has earmarked 1.6 million tokens to the program. This represents the first new project for Earn, a company Coinbase acquired last year. Earn offers users nominal amounts for completing marketing tasks. Coinbase plans to extend the program to other offered coins in the future.
Civil to Give It Another Go After ICO Failure
Despite the failure of its coin offering, which only raised $1.4 million against a minimum target of $8 million, blockchain journalism startup Civil will still open to the public in February, per a blog post published yesterday.
"Civil was never about ICOs and tokens, or even blockchain," Civil founder Matthew Iles wrote. "We're about community-ownership, transparency and trust. We believe journalism (and media at large) should compete on craft, but collaborate on infrastructure. Technology is a critical means to an end, but we let it overwhelm our message, complicate our experience, and distract from our core objectives. We won't make that mistake again."
While 1,012 investors invested in the token sale, another 1,738 registered but did not complete the purchase. This time, Civil plans to actually sell off all 34 million CVL tokens.
Civil reports that it has 18 newsrooms signed up to the platform, with more than 50 additional newsrooms expected to join by February. Civil projects it will have over 1,000 newsrooms worldwide on its platform by 2020.

Vitalik Buterin Makes Three Separate $100,000 Donations
Ethereum‘s Vitalik Buterin has given about 1,000 ETH tokens each (currently worth about $324,000) to three separate startups that are working on the Ethereum ecosystem.
The startups, namely Prysmatic Labs, Sigma Prime and ChainSafe Systems were gifted the tokens by Buterin as a “contribution to the push the development of Ethereum 2.0,” For instance, while Sigma Prime is looking to develop Lighthouse, an Ethereum 2.0 client, Prysmatic Labs will focus on improving the scalability of the entire Ethereum network. Canada-based ChainSafe is also reportedly in the process of developing an Ethereum 2.0 client as well. Buterin himself received a $100,000 fellowship grant years ago, with the donation paving the way for what is now Ethereum itself.
The donation was inspired by a conversation which started on Twitter, where a group of Ethereum developers complained about the lack of funding for projects focused on developing the blockchain, which has contributed to a slowdown in the pace of project development.
Our biggest distraction @prylabs is that we are still working full time for other jobs. Even with recent grants, it’s hardly enough to take the whole team full time with significant pay cuts and it’s certainly not even for us to scale the team to where we need it.
— Preston Van Loon (@preston_vanloon) December 18, 2018
Preston Van Lon one of the founders of Prysmatic Labs, who still works as a software engineer at Google, stated that his team had received grants in the past, but they were “hardly enough to take the whole team full time with significant pay cuts and it’s certainly not even for us to scale the team to where we need it.”
Buterin, whose Twitter account specifically signifies he doesn’t give away Ether (“Vitalik Non-giver of Ether”), responded:
Just sent 1000 eth. Yolo.https://t.co/s1q8K5Wlhs
— Vitalik Non-giver of Ether (@VitalikButerin) December 19, 2018
Prysmatic Labs is a team of blockchain developer who banded together to proffer solutions to Ethereum’s scalability problem. According to the Medium blog operated by the team, they are looking to scale the network by implementing a Sharding client for Ethereum 2.0.
The donations lowered the balance of the Ethereum wallet Buterin used from over 10,000 Eth (about $1,097,700 USD)  to around 7,600.
With this approach, they will split the Ethereum network into various components that collaborate and communicate, as opposed to employing the structure of full nodes. The Sharding idea is much more responsive to the addition of transactions to the ledger, but it will also require an overhaul of the Ethereum network’s current protocol topology.
While Prysmatic Labs and the other recipients are planning to expand, Ethereum development studio ConsenSys, who recently laid off staffs due to the downturn in market realities, said it was going to be cutting off underperforming projects for those that either benefit the Ethereum ecosystem or generate revenue or for social good.

Ethereum [ETH]’s Vitalik Buterin donates in cryptocurrency for development of three projects
Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of Ethereum [ETH], the third-largest cryptocurrency by market cap, is back in the spotlight for donating Ethereum for three projects in the ecosystem. Nonetheless, this step by Buterin was criticized by one of the core developers of the foundation.
The first project to receive a donation from the co-founder of Ethereum was Prsymatic Labs, one of the teams working towards scaling Ethereum. Buterin donated over 1,000 ETH to the project after co-founder Preston Van Loon stated that they were unable to completely focus on scaling towards Ethereum as the team members were still working full-time at other jobs. He said:
“Our biggest distraction @prylabs is that we are still working full time for other jobs. Even with recent grants, it’s hardly enough to take the whole team full time with significant pay cuts and it’s certainly not even for us to scale the team to where we need it.”
To this, Vitalik said:

Following this donation, the Twitter thread which was initiated for speaking about the progress of Ethereum or lack thereof, soon turned into a donation thread as Buterin continued to giveaway cryptocurrencies to two more projects. The projects are noted to be Sigma Prime and ChainSafe, wherein the co-founder donated 1,000 ETH to each of them.
Paul Hauner, the co-founder of Sigma Prime stated on Twitter:
“Hey, we’re building #lighthouse and have been knocked back for a couple of grants recently. We can certainly turn 1k ETH into more developers!”

The last project, ChainSafe, drew the attention of Peter Szilagyi, a core developer of Ethereum Foundation, who went on to say:

Furthermore, Peter stated that he considers the step taken by Buterin “insanely reckless” towards the entire Ethereum ecosystem even though the donation were his own and not the Foundation’s. According to him, this is because the donations undermine the entire idea of the Foundation’s grants system. He added:
“[…] and it is also undermining the idea that working hard get get you ahead. What this just proved is you need to make something @VitalikButerin likes and he’ll bring the lambos.”
The co-founder was quick to respond to the statement by pointing out that ChainSafe is one of the leading projects working towards the development of the ecosystem, according to a list made by Coindesk. Additionally, Peter also spoke about the other concerns related to this particular donation, a majority of the developers have “zero knowledge about computer science fundamentals, and end up designing things that look good, except they don’t work or don’t scale”.
