I am being haunted by @neil-gaiman . This is what living in the Midwest is like, you will see Neil Gaiman’s autograph everywhere. You will be told stories about him randomly. You will find out that used to frequent your favorite coffee shop.
Three days ago, I knew peace, then I read “The Graveyard Book”, my first Gaiman book, and began seeing Gaiman everywhere. Go to Chapter2Books in Hudson, autographed posters in the wall. My favorite coffee shop? Oh yeah he used to hang out there and write. The cool ass bookstore across the street, Dream Haven? They published “Angels and Visitations” and hosted a ton of book signings. I briefly open Instagram, click on a friend’s story and see him, this cool goth man that is now everywhere. I find no sanctuary. I read a mildly spooky story on Reddit, innocently scroll through the comments and there it is: “Sounds like a Neil Gaiman story”. If you walk into literally any bookstore in the Midwest, all the books are signed by him. If you think there is a single quaint and inviting place in Minneapolis, people will find you and provide you with unsolicited Neil Gaiman lore about how in the 90’s Gaiman frequented the shop and the owner’s cousin’s uncle’s brother’s nephew was the inspiration for Bod.
