Rare Color Portraits of Charlie Chaplin, ca. 1917-1918. Color photography was still in the experimental stage.
These magnificent color photographs of Charlie Chaplin were taken around 1917–18 by Charles C. Zoller and are currently held in the George Eastman House. The photos show Chaplin dressed as the Tramp while posing in front of his Tudor-style offices at his studio in Hollywood, CA. The character made him a worldwide phenomenon. His huge popularity ultimately allowed him to buy his own studio, which gave him the freedom to make his own films.
