O’Halloran victorious as Glenn Irwin crashes out of podium contention
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jason O'Halloran claimed his fifth win of the 2021 Bennetts British Superbike Championship season, after leading Christian Iddon by 2.433s as the race was red flagged when Glenn Irwin crashed out of the podium fight, unhurt. O’Halloran got an incredible start from pole position to grab the lead ahead of Irwin and Peter Hickman, however a crash on the opening lap for Kyle Ryde and Joe Francis bought out the BMW Safety Car. Both riders were able to walk away from the crash, and the race resumed on lap four. O’Halloran controlled the pace at the front, breaking away from the pack in the later stages of the race to build a more comfortable buffer before the race was halted. This leaves him just a single point adrift of Christian Iddon in the overall standings ahead of tomorrow’s two races. Prior to his accident, Irwin was right in the fight for the podium, holding second position ahead of Hickman and Iddon in the opening stages with Ryan Vickers in contention too. On lap five, Hickman’s FHO Racing BMW machine moved into second. Honda Racing’s Irwin was then pushed back a further place into fourth as Iddon then made a move, drafting through on the VisionTrack Ducati. Iddon then pushed Hickman for second place, making a move at the Chicane as the battle intensified for the podium. It was a battle between Iddon, Hickman and Irwin for the final two places inside the top three as O’Halloran made his break at the front. Irwin was soon up to third, as he produced a stunning move around the outside at the Chicane on lap 13. His progress came to a sudden end a lap later though as he crashed out at 119mph. With his stricken Honda Fireblade in the track, the race was red flagged. Irwin was able to walk away from the incident, whilst his rivals Iddon and Hickman climbed onto the podium. Vickers had his best result in fourth place for the RAF Regular & Reserve Kawasaki team, holding off Lee Jackson who completed the top five for FS-3 Racing Kawasaki, with four manufacturers in the top four positions. Danny Kent was another rider to secure his best result in Bennetts BSB in sixth place for the Buildbase Suzuki team, ahead of Bradley Ray and Gino Rea. Tarran Mackenzie was running sixth, but a cut of the Chicane meant the McAMS Yamaha rider was given a 2-second long lap equivalent time penalty, ending up in ninth place with Tommy Bridewell completing the top-ten. It was another disappointing race for reigning champion Josh Brookes; he was outside the points in 17th place. I did one this morning, but it was straight out of the pits and it was first bit of dry track time all weekend, so it was a bit of an unknown. “The pace was definitely faster than what I thought it would be, not from trying to do that, but it just came to me and I thought while the pace is there and the tyre feels good, I’ll just keep doing my thing. “The gap to the guys behind me was staying constant for about the first five or six laps and I saw it start to grow, so I just wanted to keep my pace and try to get away. “It was a comfortable win, but it certainly was never easy. I didn’t have to block too much, didn’t have to worry about the guys behind me, which is a nice feeling. “I think tomorrow’s race might be a bit slower, another five or six laps is a lot around here when the tyre starts to drop, so we’ll see what tomorrow brings. All the guys will improve again and so we need to do the same for tomorrow.” For more info checkout our dedicated British Superbikes News page Or visit the official Bennetts British Superbike Championship website www.britishsuperbike.com Follow us on social media: Instagram: @superbikenews Twitter: @sbknews Facebook: @superbikenews SBN Directory - add your motorcycle related business here

Iddon claims first Bennetts British Superbike victory in dramatic Snetterton opener
Tumblr media
VisionTrack Ducati’s Christian Iddon claimed his first victory in the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Snetterton this afternoon, becoming the third different race winner of 2020 following a dramatic opening race in Norfolk. Josh Brookes got off to a flying start with the pack instantly on the attack and Danny Buchan had grabbed the lead as the pack hit Wilson for the first time with Iddon in second. However, a crash on the opening lap for Andrew Irwin, and his stricken Honda Racing Fireblade in the middle of the track at Agostini, caused the deployment of the BMW Safety Car. The pack lined up with Buchan, Iddon, Brookes, and Jason O'Halloran the leading contenders; but when the race went green on lap four, Buchan crashed his Massingberd-Mundy Kawasaki out of the lead at Palmer, putting him out of contention. Iddon then had the lead and he had begun to edge out an advantage, but as the race continued the chasing pack had reeled him back in and Bradley Ray was soon into second for the SYNETIQ BMW team ahead of Brookes and Tommy Bridewell. The battle for the podium places went down to the wire and Iddon had the margin he needed to claim his first win, but behind the pack had shuffled again and Brookes and Bridewell had managed to get back ahead of Ray. Brookes was able to hold off an equally determined Bridewell to the chequered flag as they completed a Ducati podium top three, but Glenn Irwin was in the fight too. Read the full article

British Champion Farmer Joins Iddon For Tyco BMW'S 2019 Superbike Campaig
TAS Racing is delighted to announce a continued association with Tyco as title partners for the 2019 season, with four time British champion Keith Farmer joining established BSB rider Christian Iddon to represent the team in the Bennetts British Superbike Championship aboard the all-new BMW S1000RR. Farmer steps up to the premier class with the Official BMW Motorrad team, after clinching last season’s Superstock 1000cc championship and along with Iddon, is looking forward to the challenge ahead in the world’s leading domestic Superbike Championship.
Speaking of his dream opportunity in the British Superbike Championship with Tyco BMW, Farmer, who is the most widely decorated rider in the class, explained:
“After an excellent first year with TAS Racing, claiming a Superstock 1000 title, I’m absolutely thrilled to be given the chance to step up to the Superbike class. I’m very grateful to the Philip and the Tyco BMW team to be given this opportunity. It shows they truly believe in me, and I will in return give my absolute all next season. What better way to enter into the official British Superbike Championship, than with the brand new BMW S1000RR! I’m so pumped to go testing and get things rolling into 2019.”
Christian Iddon delivered performances this year that were nothing short of heroic, but with some scores to settle, the tenacious Stockport rider is excited at the prospect of another year ahead with the Moneymore based team and racing the much anticipated new BMW S1000RR:
“Obviously I’m really happy to be back with TAS Racing for another year in the Superbike class. We have an exciting year ahead with the launch of the new BMW S1000RR – I can’t wait to get riding the new bike after hearing such great things about it. Both myself and the team feel we have unfinished business so we will be looking to put that right in 2019. I’m genuinely grateful for their continued support.”
Philip Neill – Team Manager: “Firstly, I am extremely pleased to confirm Tyco as our title partner for 2019. We continue our association with them in the British championship, which is our fourth year as the Official BMW Motorrad team.
On the rider front, we are pleased to confirm that Christian will remain with us for another season, and equally happy to announce that Keith will also stay in Tyco BMW livery, albeit, he makes the step up to the Superbike division.
For me the decision with Christian was simple. We have both invested a lot in each other and he clearly has the talent to succeed in BSB – so together with the new model RR, I firmly believe 2019 can be his year.
With Keith the decision was also quite simple. We asked him to do a job for us in the Superstock class in 2018 and he delivered the championship, which was fantastic. We are under no illusions, the step up to Superbike is a significant one; however we believe Keith has the ability to deliver at any level, and although we should anticipate a settling in period – we do expect to see him running at the front during 2019.
Thank you once again to our many loyal racing partners. We look forward to doing it all again with you in 2019.”
Phil Dashey – Vice President Global Sales, Tyco: “We are delighted to confirm our continued support into 2019 for the TAS Racing team. Collectively, they and the British Superbike Championship have represented our brand proudly and professionally. This has enabled millions around the globe to get behind our world class security products, just as much as the riders themselves.
Not forgetting the thousands of fans who attend the events and experience the action, live and up close. 2019 brings one of the biggest and exciting changes to the various team and rider combinations in recent history, so there will be some surprises along the way – but with our continuity in the team as a whole, we feel in a good position to challenge for the title.”
