City installs crosswalk safety light in Waterside
STAMFORD — A new pedestrian-activated light at Selleck and Durant streets is supposed to make it safer to cross the busy intersection on foot. Mayor David Martin, Transportation Bureau Chief Jim Travers and City Rep. Virgil de la Cruz tested the city’s fourth rectangular rapid flashing beacon (called an RRFB) last week in Waterside. When a pedestrian wants to cross the intersection, they can activate the flashing RRFB light to alert drivers to pay attention to the crosswalk. “Distracted driving and distracted walking have increased in the last few years, making pedestrian crashes more common throughout the country,” Martin said. “The RRFBs are a low-cost solution that can be life-saving.
