Unveiling the ACE: A Digital Hub for Tactical Aircraft Advancements
Taking a significant leap into the future, the Advanced Concepts Environment (ACE) will open its digital doors this December. It serves not only for futuristic concepts but as a transformative force to fortify and elevate the UK Armed Forces' tactical aircraft fleet.   Beta Launch and the T-CDO Initiative After a successful round of internal testing, the beta version of ACE is primed for its official launch. This development aligns with the momentum gained by the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl)-led Tactical Aviation Contested, Degraded, and Operationally (T-CDO) limiting environments Integrating Capability Challenge (ICC).
ACE: A Cornerstone for the 4-Year ICC Initiative
This OS-accredited and cloud-hosted online platform is set to play a pivotal role in the 4-year ICC initiative. The primary goal of this undertaking is to leverage science and technology solutions for both platforms and operators, addressing the intricate challenges presented by the ever-evolving battlespace.
Partnership and Collaborative Innovation
In collaboration with QinetiQ Training & Simulation, ACE will function as a centralized repository, aggregating innovative concepts from the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and industry enterprises. Front-line commanders identify challenges and capability gaps for tactical aircraft, and these concepts aim to tackle them and bridge the identified gaps.
Operational Analysis and Swift Implementation
Dstl will spearhead the initial operational analysis of ACE concepts within endorsed scenarios, employing a systematic approach to swiftly capitalize on technological advancements. Liam Ball, Project Technical Authority for the Tactical Aviation CDO program, emphasized ACE's role as a crucial step in a concept's flight path, set to be fully operational before April 2024.   The Importance of Engagement Ball stressed the importance of engagement, highlighting that the success of ACE hinges on early collaboration. Through comprehensive analysis and testing, ACE aims to inform the procurement of essential equipment, ultimately contributing to saving lives.
Tactical Aviation CDO's Mission and Collaborative Approach
The Tactical Aviation CDO's overarching mission is to enhance the probability of mission success by introducing novel engineering and logistical solutions. This collaborative approach was evident in a recent stakeholder engagement event, where representatives from the Armed Forces, academia, and industry converged to explore innovative concepts.   A 'Team Sport' in Addressing Aviation Challenges Group Captain Steve Austin of the Royal Air Force highlighted the collaborative nature of addressing aviation challenges. Describing it as a 'team sport,' he underscored the need for shared challenges, collective idea generation, and the assurance derived from friendly forces like Dstl collaborating with academia and industry to solve problems collaboratively. In an era marked by the proliferation of drones, advanced surface-to-air missiles, and cyber threats, ACE and the Tactical Aviation CDO program aim to position the UK and its allies at the forefront of addressing and overcoming these complex challenges through continuous innovation and enhanced collaboration.   Sources: THX News & Defence Science and Technology Laboratory.
