100 Days of Productivity

Day 13 : 

     Today marks exactly a week since my long lost sister Julia has contacted me. I have waited such a long time to hear from Julia. She is an older sister of mine from my dads side who was adopted at a very young age. Doors have just began getting opened and I am beyond blessed to finally know her and have her in my life. There is so much information to share with each other and so much we also do not know either. Its a journey we are in together. 

     It is truly crazy how much we feel magnetic towards each other. Intuition is such a rare, humanly gift but ours were so strong for each other, it had to become real life one day. Although, now that the moment has came for me to finally be able to seek her, I feel as if life is so UNREAL. I just finished up my first complete journal (the tye dye one). I have a new one already waiting to be started I just have not gotten around to it yet because there is genuinely so much to say that I am unsure I am able to put it all into words. 

     December has brought many blessings thus far. I got a new job that is walking distance from my apartment. The reason I say walking distance is because my car took a crap LOL. But many positives follow behind and plus, I will no longer have a car payment or have to pay insurance. Lovely. My new job is a front desk associate at the Quality Inn. My responsibilities are slim at my workplace, answering the phone, checking in guests, taking reservations. Its not a whole lot of action at once, especially considering this time of year where its cold here and there is not a whole lot of anything going on. The majority of the people I see here are men working oil and gas, pipelining jobs, or construction jobs. 

     Christmas is right around the corner and I am so excited. My momma loved Christmas so much. You could tell it was her absolute favorite time of the year. We are going to put up a Christmas tree for her again this year! I love that my family is trying to help keep her around in spirit. I could do it alone up there at the cemetery, it just would be so hard. I miss her and wish she was here. She would be so happy to see the home made Christmas cards I am making this year, I have a little, caring gift for everyone! I am thankful to have my friends and family around me during the holidays and in the moments I feel as if I need them most. 

     My birthday is right around the next corner, a week after Christmas. The big 22. What should I do to celebrate?

Counting to ten

Proud parent moment coming right up folks!

Asger now knows how to count to ten in both English and Danish. How cool is that? A few weeks ago he would mix both languages up when he was counting; 'One, two, fire, five, seven, eight, nine, ti'. So sweet :-) But now he knows how to separate the languages, I am so proud of him :-) Such a big boy!

Peter and I just finished watching season 2 of House of Cards. I am obsessed! I can't possibly wait until february 2015 for the next season to start. What to watch in the mean time y'all!?!

Butterfly Hide and Seek

This was the simplest most fun game ever - low input, high impact! The kids close their eyes and count to ten, slowly. I toss and "hide" butterflies all over the room, largely in plain sight. Then the kids say, "ready or not, here I come!" and find all the butterflies. To add a math element to this otherwise un-mathematical game, I wrote numbers on paper tape stuck inside this Melissa and Doug tray. The butterflies have to be counted onto a number, in the order that they are found. We also use this to count how many butterflies still need to be retrieved, thereby introducing the idea of subtraction, albeit subtly for now.

You could play this game with any objects, even rocks or leaves marked with a distinctive colour, shape, etc. could work. We just happened to have these plastic butterflies left over from S's birthday (clearly a huge milestone for us in terms of leftovers and game-inspiration). The butterflies are readily available at all the One Shop and One Stop stores across Islamabad.

We played something like 12 rounds of this game before the kids had enough of it. S even took a turn to hide, it was very sweet, she laid out the butterflies in just one spot, all ten of them together.
