for gymnast like-dislike: basically I wanted to know what do you think about all of the russian.. can you please do your fav russians? Sorry but I'm very curious..
Oh wow ok I’ll do some of those who competed at nationals :)
Melnikova: I like her posture and elegance, her new floor choreo is beautiful imo. I also like that she upgraded beam. I don’t like the fact that it looks like she’s lost some of her confidence after not hitting in Rio. I hope that’s not the case tho.
Tutkhalyan: I like that she’s theoretically a well balanced AAer because she has nice difficulty on all 4 events. I dislike the fact that she’s a mess 90% of the times and I also dislike her leaps and her sloppiness in general.
Kapitonova: I like that she was the surprise national champion lol no one was expecting it. I LOVE her double Y turn on beam. I don’t like that she doesn’t perform her choreo at all, like she’s tall and lean and with nice posture, it would take so little effort to make her movements look graceful with her classical music on floor and yet ugh.
Akhaimova: I love how solid she is and that she got more stamina than all of the Russian team put together. I dislike her bars but I mean if there’s a country where that’s not really a problem it’s Russia so.
Spiridonova: I like that she FINALLY upgraded floor in a sensible way with the double arabian and that she’s hit beam occasionally lol. I love her onodi. While I also think she’s a good bar worker (that’s undeniable) I’m also tired of her routine and I hope she upgrades/changes things around a bit. I dislike that they’re still trying to make her happen as an AAer. Please stop.
Eremina: I love her nabieva to pak and her floor. I think she’s innovative and nice to watch. I dislike her vault, which sucks because she could be great if only she could work a decent DTY.
Ilyankova: I love her. It’s really hard for me to find faults with her
Skrypnik: Ugh a few years ago I thought she could be an amazing UB/BB specialist lmao. Well I love her inbars. Vika aside, I think hers are the best out there. I dislike her total lack of endurance like she looks exhausted even before she has actually started her routines

What's happened to Bondareva, Skrypnik and Tutkhalyan? I haven't heard anything about them for a while, are they still at Round Lake?
Bondareva retired because of a severe back injury. She’s doing some Cirque-ish thing now and seems happy. https://www.instagram.com/p/Bcu-0XpAUIa/?taken-by=maria_bondareva99
Skrypnik competed at Nationals in March, and then did only BB/FX at a local meet in July. She only competed on day one, so I assume she hurt herself there. I haven’t seen her post anything gym-related since.
Tutkhalyan is still coming back from injury, I think she might be doing Voronin?? Not sure. She competed at a meet in Moscow in October. Anyway, she was at Round Lake a few weeks ago, I think bc they usually select the national team around this time.

but anyway i want to say how proud i am of gelya, vlaza, and listy <3 i have been following them since they were literal children and i am so proud that they are now OLYMPIC CHAMPIONS
in the years since i started following russian WAG seriously, so many talented juniors fell by the wayside/got injured/got hit by puberty/god knows what else
who would’ve guessed that maria paseka would be more successful than grishina and komova.. and lilia akhaimova would be an olympic champion and not tatiana nabieva or elena eremina.. and freaking daria spiridonova came from nowhere in the last quad
who remembers these girls:
nastya grishina, anna rodionova, alla sosnitskaya, maria bondereva, maria kharenkova (at least she competed a bunch for russia in 14-15 and is still competing now) daria skrypnik, katya sokova, valaria saifulina, elena eremina (kill me now), angelina simakova, ksenia klimenko wtf

I wonder who has the Shaposhnika variation record for most variants competed. I was thinking it could be Aliya since she has competed five of them so far; Maloney, van Leuwen, Seitz, Chow 1/2 and Komova II. Komova has four she competed; Komova I, Komova II, Maloney and Van Leuwen.
Maybe Becky Downie or Beth Tweddle have more given they have (had) really long careers.
Daria Skrypnik has four too; Komova II, Maloney, Chow (2015) and Chow 1/2.
