Today turned out to be better.

I slept well at the hotel, even though the heating system was scorching. But the manual’s in Mandarin, so I gave up on trying to turn it off.

I enjoyed a complimentary breakfast in the hotel restaurant that came with my reservation. They served up some delicious bacon, which I had two helpings of.

My sinuses were going crazy all day, which was a pain. But I blew my nose about a million times and took some nasal spray, which helped a lot.

I finally gave in and contacted this woman, AR, who runs some English training centers in my city. She seemed nice before and keen to hire me months ago, but I didn’t want to say yes to the first offer.

We arranged to meet later in the afternoon for a face-to-face so she could give me more info about the teaching job on offer.

I went home first to get some more clothes and my laptop and ate lunch in my apartment. Then I came back to the hotel just in time to drop off my stuff before meeting AR at one of her training centers nearby.

We had a really good chat and she told me exactly what I need to do to get my work visa extended so I can stay longer in China. I need to check my documents at home and make sure I have everything I need. Then I think it’s safe to say I’m gonna take a teaching job at one of AR’s schools. She seems like a straightforward sort and I think we can work well together for the next year or so.

PE texted me after 15:00 to ask if he and AS could continue their day drinking at my hotel. It might’ve been a mistake to mention my hotel stay to PE the day before since he immediately wanted to invite himself over right then and there. So I didn’t have the heart to say no since I’d told him the day before that it was alright.

But I let them wait an hour or while I checked out the hotel’s fitness center and the indoor swimming pool. They have a great punching bag with gloves that I used for a bit. Then I took a swim which was the nice minus the part that my stupid nose plug kept falling off in the water.

PE and AS came over after that and we had a great time together. We watched ‘Good Boys’ and turned it into a drinking game, which was hilarious. PE and I talked a little about my visa woes and he said similar things that AR said, which was really helpful. AS was feeling a little under the weather because of a stomach bug, but I’m glad she had fun too.

For future reference, I’m gonna be firmer when people want to hang out when I prefer some alone time. I hate to say no to people, even when I don’t want to do something. I need to learn that it’s sometimes ok to say no and that people don’t have to like me all the time.

I had a weird moment after PE and AS left when I kept thinking about X on a gangrenous loop. Maybe it’s because I’m staying in a hotel for the first time after our trip to Manila months ago.

I don’t know, I just got sad and depressed and started missing her all over again.

How does X still have this effect on me? Am I not really over her? Maybe it’s just my hormones going haywire, it’s that time of the month after all.

Maybe I should stop torturing myself and try to get some sleep. I still have a few more hours in my lovely hotel room before I have to head back to my apartment tomorrow afternoon.

Might as well not waste it thinking about some broad who never really cared about me.
