Default tab browser helper remove

#DEFAULT TAB BROWSER HELPER REMOVE INSTALL#
The best thing you can do would be to deselect everything. Even if you see tempting offers, we suggest you review them carefully before allowing them to install. Those settings will make all offers visible, and you will be able to deselect all of them. It’s not difficult to do as you just need to use Advanced (Custom) settings when installing freeware.
#DEFAULT TAB BROWSER HELPER REMOVE INSTALL#
Attached items can install alongside freeware by default, so if you do not want that to happen, you have to manually prevent them from doing so. This is a popular method among unwanted program developers because it allows programs to install without users even noticing. That means that hijackers are attached to freeware as extra offers. Minor infections like browser hijackers and adware are usually spread using the bundling method. For these reasons, we think you should consider My Inbox Helper removal. You might end up with some kind of malware if you are not careful. Since it tries to redirect you to sponsored websites, it might lead you to sites that are dangerous. However, it should not be allowed to remain installed on a computer since it could expose you to dangerous content. While its sudden appearance in a browser might alarm users, it’s not a serious threat since it does not do direct damage. It will intend to redirect you to sponsored websites in order to generate traffic for certain websites. Its promoted website will be set as your homepage, and while the hijacker is present, you won’t be able to undo those changes. When the hijacker installs unannounced, it’s quite noticeable because it changes browser’s settings to display a different homepage. We will explain the installation method in more detail later on in this report. The extension’s use of the bundling method to install unnoticed is one of the reasons why it’s classified as a browser hijacker. There are reports about users finding the extension installed but having no recollection of doing it. It’s almost identical to many other hijackers out there. My Inbox Helper can be considered to be a browser hijacker, despite it being advertised as a useful extension to manage multiple email accounts.

The current version of Hop Deeploy Helper does not test the validity of input parameters.
You should only use it if you know why you’re using it, and you should always backup your system before you use it. Adobe Flash Player 10 Free Download Mac

Adobe Flash Player 10.1 Free Download
Adobe Flash Player 10.0 Free Download Mac
Adobe Flash Player Mac 10.6.8
Adobe Flash Player can be run on some versions of Windows, Mac, Linux, and their respective browsers. It is also available on Android devices up to Android 4.3. Adobe announced in 2012 that it would no longer be releasing updates for Android devices.
Adobe Flash Player Version 32.0.0.453. By clicking the Download now button, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to the Adobe Software Licensing Agreement.
Adobe Pepper Flash Player 32.0.0.453 - Plug-in plays multimedia in your Web browser (PPAPI version). Download the latest versions of the best Mac apps at safe and trusted MacUpdate.
Got a message that says you have to update Flash Player on Mac? Don’t promptly click the update button. If you are not careful, you can accidentally install adware or malware instead of Flash Player. And that’s not what you need, right?
In this article we’ll show you the best way to check for Flash updates and also give you a comprehensive guide to update Adobe Flash Player for Mac safely. Plus, we’ll tell you how to uninstall it from your computer completely.
What is Flash Player?
For years, Adobe Flash Player has been one of the most popular plug-ins used by web browsers to reproduce videos, web ads, and interactive animations. But now its position is rocked by some security concerns and safer alternative solutions.
Google Chrome and Firefox contain the built-in version of Flash running in the sandboxed mode. This method is safer than running Flash as a plugin. What about Safari, it disables Flash Player by default starting from macOS Sierra. The point is that Apple wants you running on HTML5 — the newer and safer way of browsing the web. It supports the same multimedia elements as Flash but without any security issues.
However, the reality is that you still may need the Adobe Flash Player on your Mac. Many websites will not work if you uninstall it completely. Live streams like BT Sport can only be delivered in Flash, so if you are the BT Sport customer, you’ll want to keep the Flash Player. In addition, a great number of gaming and education sites use Flash and until they implement the HTML5 standards, you’ll need the Flash Player.
Why watch out for Flash updates on Mac?
Adobe is always trying to push its technology further and release the Flash updates to enhance the user experience and security. However, attackers still find the ways to trick you into downloading adware and malware through the popups. That’s why you should know how to protect your Mac against the malicious attacks when you’re trying to update your Adobe Flash for Mac.
Adobe Flash Player 10.1 Free Download
Fortunately, it’s easy to make sure that you are installing the real Flash for Mac and are not exposed to the vulnerable software. All you have to do is to be careful and don’t trust the automatic updates.
How to update Flash Player on Mac (if it’s already installed)
Instead of downloading anything from a popup, follow simple steps to check whether you really need to update Adobe Flash on Mac.
Go to the Apple menu and click System Preferences.
In the bottom left corner, choose Flash Player.
Choose the Updates tab.
Click the Check Now button.
If an update is available, click Yes to update. If no updates are available, you have the latest version of a Flash Player for Mac installed.
Easy enough, right? Make sure to invest some time and check if you do need to update Flash. Otherwise, downloading a false software package may harm your computer.
How to install Flash on your Mac safely
If Flash is not installed, which is by default on all new Macs, here’s a step-by-step guide to install it safely.
Visit the Adobe Flash Player page.
Click the Download now button.
The installer will download to your computer. If you’re using Safari, the file will go to your Downloads folder. If you’re using another browser, it may ask where to save the file.
Open your Downloads folder and find the .dmg installer file.
Double-click the Install Adobe Flash Player file.
You will be asked if you really want to install Adobe Flash Player. Read the message carefully to make sure that it’s the file you just downloaded. Click Open to proceed.
Agree to terms and conditions by clicking a checkbox.
Click the Install button.
In the window that appears, type your username and password.
Click the Install Helper button.
Click Allow Adobe to install updates (recommended).
Click Done.
That’s it. It’s also recommended to relaunch your web browser after installing Flash.
How to uninstall Flash completely
If you’re concerned about the security flaws associated with your Adobe Flash Player, we’ll show you how to uninstall it from your Mac.
Usually, uninstalling Flash can cause a bit of headache. But with CleanMyMac X, you can remove Adobe Flash Player in a few clicks. Just follow these simple steps:
Download CleanMyMac X and launch it.
Go to the Extensions in the sidebar.
Click Preferences Panes and then checkmark Flash Player.
Click the Remove button.
Adobe Flash Player 10.0 Free Download Mac
As you see, uninstalling Flash with CleanMyMac X is as easy as pie. Moreover, the whole process won’t take more than five minutes. Try it out to uninstall Flash Player on Mac completely.

I want to virtualize a Mac (the latest, 10.9) on my Mac (MacBook Air). I prefer to use VirtualBox. Data loss? Impossible with Get Backup Pro on Mac.
Running the latest software is not always the best decision. There are plenty of reasons you might want to downgrade or run an older version of macOS on your computer.
You may find that after the latest update your computer runs slower, your apps don’t function, or that the programs you need to run are not yet compatible with the upgrade. Maybe as a developer, you want to create a test environment to ensure your software runs properly in all available versions of OS X - check out the infographic below. Or you may simply like the look of the old version better (no judgement) and not want to upgrade until absolutely necessary.
Keep your apps while downgrading
Get Setapp, a collection of Mac apps that strengthen your macOS. Whenever you decide to downgrade, your apps will travel with you.
How to Install Old OS X on Your Mac

How To Get Any Roblox Hat For Free On Mac Os
Although you might think that going back to the old macOS is not possible by looking at the App Store Updates tab, it’s actually quite easy to do. In this article, we’ll take you through everything you need to download and install an old OS X on your Mac.
Prepare your Mac first
Make sure you are ready to downgrade your operating system by checking in with what version of OS X you already have and ensuring you have enough hard drive room to download the older version. Clicking the apple in the top left corner of your desktop and selecting About This Mac will allow you to see what OS X version you are currently running. Tabbing over to Storage will let you know how much disk space you have available. You’ll need around around eight gigabytes free depending on which macOS you downgrade to.
Even if you do have enough space, it’s a good idea to clean your computer before installing the desired operating system. You can, of course, do so manually by deleting unused files and uninstalling old software to free up disk space. Depending on how tidy you are, this might take quite a bit of time.
To make things easy, use a specialized app like CleanMyMac, which will quickly free up space by detecting unused apps and large files, and offering to completely delete them, with all their hidden corresponding files, in one quick click.
Optimizing your Mac with CleanMyMac is effortless:
Launch CleanMyMac
Select the Smart Scan tab and click Scan
Review Details to see the list of suggested optimizations
Click Clean
To uninstall certain apps, find the Uninstaller tab and select the apps you haven’t been using for a while.
Download CMM X to prepare for Big Sur
The only solution that will free up disk space, remove duplicates, and solve tons of problems to prepare your Mac for a new macOS
The final preparation step is to make sure you back up all your important files to cloud storage or an external drive. A proper backup app like Get Backup Pro can save you a lot of headache here.
To create a new backup with Get Backup Pro:
Connect your external hard drive
Click the plus icon in the bottom left corner
Type in the name for your backup
Choose your external drive as a destination
Adjust all the settings according to your preference and click OK
Tap the play button once you ready to perform the backup
Grab an old macOS with Setapp
Downgrading to previous operating systems on Mac gets easier. To put it shortly, Setapp has your back here.
Download the OS X you want
Once you have space on your computer, figure out what version of OS X you would like to install. You can see all previous versions of OS X your Mac has installed by opening up the App Store and clicking the icon in Applications. Tab to the Purchase page of the menu and scroll down to find the line for previous operating systems. Clicking the install button of the macOS you want will begin downloading the file.
What if I can’t find the version I want in the app store?
If your goal is to download a version of macOS that you have not already used, or, that was not available as an update from the App Store after you bought your Mac, you may need to purchase it. The earliest versions, OS X Lion and OS X Mountain Lion are available on the Apple Store’s website and arrive to you via email for download. OS X Snow Leopard ships as a boxed version and requires a disk drive to install.
It could be helpful to know where you sit on the timeline of macOS X updates. Below is a chronological list of all the updates beginning with the most recent update, High Sierra, released in 2017:
OS X High Sierra 10.13
OS X Sierra 10.12
OS X ElCapitan 10.11
OS X Yosemite 10.10
OS X Mavericks 10.9
OS X Mountain Lion 10.8
OS X Lion 10.7, released in 2011
Visiting the Apple Support’s Downloads page makes it easy to search for any version of macOS you might need, and most are available for free. Downloads for previous versions of OS X are linked below and include:
Alternative sources for downloading macOS
If you can’t find the version you want from Apple, ask a friend who is running the macOS you’re looking for to make a copy of the installer file for you. Downloading a .dmg file from a torrent site may seem a quick solution, but it means risking your security. Alternatively, you could hit up your nearest Apple Store. They will likely have image files of all the different versions of the software and help you install it right there as well.
Install the macOS
If you download the file from the App Store, the installer will start immediately. Follow the prompts and be prepared to restart your computer. If you acquire the installer from another source, just downloading the file will not install the OS X right away on your Mac, you’ll need to find the file in your Downloads or Applications folder, then open and run the installer from the downloaded file.
I can’t download an old version of Mac OS X
A downgrade is different than an upgrade. When you try to downgrade macOS, the installer may not launch right away depending on which versions of macOS you are moving between. If your installer does not launch, or you get an error message that reads: “This copy of the ‘Install OS X’ application is too old to be opened on this version of OS X,” you’ll need to use a bootable USB or external drive to work around this problem.
Get a bootable drive with OS X
Creating a bootable USB or a bootable drive is not complicated. You’ll need an external drive with enough space to hold your desired OS X on it and a basic familiarity with Terminal, Apple’s command line interface.
If you’re uncomfortable using Terminal to execute basic commands, use an app like Disk Drill to help create a boot drive. Whether you use Terminal or Disk Drill, our guide on creating a bootable installer will walk you through all the necessary steps.
Remove the old OS X
Once your drive is prepared with your bootable version of OS X, erase the unwanted version. After you restart your computer, press and hold Command + R. When you enter the macOS Utilities screen, navigate to Disk Utility, click continue, and find your Startup Disk. Tab to the Erase page and name the file you want erased (e.g. macOS High Sierra). Then select Mac OS Extended (Journaled) from the dropdown menu. Hit Erase and quit out of Disk Utility. This will return you to the OS X Utilities selector.
Install the bootable version of OS X
If you used Disk Drill for creating your bootable drive, a window will prompt your actions for using the install disk you made. But if you created your own using Terminal, use OS X Utilities Selector and find Reinstall OS X. Find and select your install disk with your bootable version of your preferred macOS, and click continue through to the license agreement. Once you agree, you should be prompted by the installer. Once the installation is completed, your computer should restart. If it does not restart itself, make sure you restart it normally. The downgrade should be complete!
How To Get Mac Os On Windows
As you can see, downgrading your OS X is not as dreadful as you might think, especially if you use helper apps like CleanMyMac, Get Backup Pro, and Disk Drill — all of which are available for a free trial on Setapp. So downgrade away!

How to remove Yahoo Search Redirect from your system?
Cyber security analysts have recently discovered that Yahoo Search Engine is being utilized by the cyber-criminals to generate illicit revenue by driving searches to search.yahoo.com. While Yahoo Search is a legitimate search provider, cyber threat-actors are able to succeed in their deceitful motives with the help of nasty browser hijackers.

These browser hijackers such as oursurfing, istartsurf & istart123 cause Yahoo Search Direct i.e. it diverts the web-searches to search.yahoo.com without user’s consent. Software Bundling is known to be the prime method of its distribution.
Once the system is infected, the browser hijacker changes the new tab functionality, home-page & default search engine settings without user’s permission. The altered settings are assigned to Yahoo Search Engine. In addition to that, the malware installs certain applications named as “helper objects” on the infected system that prevents the user from restoring the default settings.

Is Adobe Flash Player Dangerous For Mac

Why Is Adobe Flash Player Not Working
Adobe Flash Player For Mac
What Is Adobe Flash Player
Mac Users Attacked Again by Fake Adobe Flash Update Posted on April 12th, 2016 by Graham Cluley Mac users are once again being urged to exercise caution when installing updates to Adobe Flash Player, after a fake update was discovered infecting computers. Why Flash Player Update Notices Can Be Problematic. The most widely known example of a fake Flash update is the Flashback Trojan horse, which first masqueraded as a Flash Player installer package targeting Mac users. Over 600,000 Mac users installed the fake update to Adobe Flash thinking it was valid, thereby infecting their machines with malware.
Why Is Adobe Flash Player Not Working
7. Agree to terms and conditions by clicking a checkbox.
8. Click the Install button.
9. In the window that appears, type your username and password.
10. Click the Install Helper button.
11. Click Allow Adobe to install updates (recommended).
12. Click Done.
That’s it. It’s also recommended to relaunch your web browser after installing Flash.
How to uninstall Flash completely
If you’re concerned about the security flows associated with your Adobe Flash Player, we’ll show you how to uninstall it from your Mac.
Adobe Flash Player For Mac
As you see, uninstalling Flash with CleanMyMac X is as easy as pie. Moreover, the whole process won’t take more than five minutes. Try it out to uninstall Flash Player on Mac completely.
That’s it! Follow the tips above and don’t let the tricky popups and websites take advantage of you. This way you’ll stay up-to-date safely.

Project 3 - Play Tetris Solved
Overview Tetris (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. was arguably the most popular single-player computer game of all time by the early 1990's. It's incredibly simple and fun to play, and even to this day it's widely considered to be among the best games of all time. In case you've never seen it, the game consists of a 10-unit wide by 24-unit tall well, into which randomly-selected geometric 4-unit pieces begin to fall one at a time. The player manipulates each piece as it falls, by moving it horizontally within the well, and rotating it in 90° increments. Once the piece can fall no further, it becomes locked in place, taking up space in the well. However, if the player forms one or more full horizontal (10-unit by 1-unit) rows, those rows are removed, with all rows above shifting downward. The goal is to continue playing as long as possible, so the player must attempt to pack the pieces strategically. Eventually, though, the well fills upward to a limit line, and if any portion of a piece is locked in place above this line, the game is over. You'll see all of this in action soon enough, and it's actually quite easy to understand once you've played it for just a few minutes. Requirements Building a full-functional Tetris application requires a little more Java than what we've covered yet this term, so you'll be provided a working application that you can download and play. It's a somewhat simplified version, with a very rudimentary scoring mechanism, but it's still just as enjoyable and challenging as the original. So, if the application is already provided, what is this assignment all about? The goal here is to develop a basic Artificial Intelligence ("AI") system, capable of controlling the game as if it were the player. Implementing an Interface In previous assignments, you were given a class file with method declarations, Javadoc comments, and placeholder implementations. In this assignment, you'll be given an interfaceinstead. An interface contains the method declarations and the Javadoc comments, but no code at all (not even placeholders). Your task is to implement this interface, which means you'll develop a class that provides code for all the methods declared in the interface. In addition to the methods specified by the interface, you will likely need to develop several private helper methods in order to fully implement it without redundancies. System Description The interface you will implement is called edu.vt.cs5044.tetris.AI and your implementation class must be called edu.vt.cs5044.TetrisAI. You will need to develop the code needed to implement the methods defined by the interface. One of the methods will be the overall AI system. This method receives some parameters, defining the current state of the game board and the shape to be placed, and will need to find the "best" placement for that shape. The other methods are responsible for intermediate calculations. These methods would normally be private, and not specified by the interface, but for academic purposes we're exposing these methods to ease the testing requirements. Speaking of tests, your JUnit test file must be called edu.vt.cs5044.TetrisAITest. Downloads tetris5044.jar library file containing all the compiled game engine classes tetris5044-api.jar library file containing the Javadocs for the game engine Setting up Eclipse Download the provided files to your computer, and place them in a convenient folder. Open Eclipse and create a new Java Project for this assignment. Right-click the project and select Build Path | Configure Build Path, then select the Libraries tab. Click Add External JARs and navigate to where you placed the downloaded JAR files, select tetris5044.jar, and click OK. You should now see that file listed along with the JRE System Library. Now click the little triangle to expand the new file, select Javadoc location: (None), and click the "Edit..." button. Here be sure to select "Javadoc in archive" first, then click Browse. Navigate again, this time selecting tetris5044-api.jar, and click Validate. It should tell you the location is likely valid, so click OK, then OK, to get back to the Libraries tab. Now click the "Add Libraries..." button, select JUnit, then select JUnit version 4 (this is not the default!). Click Finish and ensure you see three libraries now: JRE System Library, JUnit 4, and tetris5044.jar. Click "Apply and Close" to return to your project. Finally, right-click your project name, select New | Source Folder, and name it "test" then right-click the new test folder and add a New | Java Package called "edu.vt.cs5044" where you will eventually develop your test class. Shall We Play a Game? (better than tic-tac-toe) At this point, you can right-click your project and select Run As | Java Application to play Tetris! Go ahead and try it now... A window should appear with an empty game board and a prompt to type P to play. Once you type P, you will see a new random piece near the top, slowly falling toward the bottom of the well. There are several alternative keyboard controls you can use, but for now just type J and L to move the piece left and right, and type I to rotate the piece. Once the piece is situated as you wish, you can use K (or the space bar) to drop the piece immediately, or you can just enjoy watching the piece fall gently into place. Zombie (brains?) You can type '?' into the game at any time to produce a listing in the Eclipse console of all of the available options and keyboard controls. Try this now. Some of these options will be extremely useful during the assignment. You'll probably notice some interesting options, including a way to enable the Player AI by typing Ctrl-P. When you enable this mode, just before a new shape appears in the game, the AI is asked how to best rotate then position the shape. Go ahead and type Ctrl-P now. Nothing will happen, except you'll see a warning in the console that your implementation couldn't be found, which is perfectly understandable at this point. Trying to Take Over the World (no, not that Brain) Close the game for a moment now, while we get some of the basics for the code in place. First, create a new package in your src folder called edu.vt.cs5044 then right-click within that package select New Class. Before you enter the class name, click the "Add..." button to the right of the Interfaces section. In the search box at the top, type AI and you should soon see the AI interface (in the edu.vt.cs5044.tetris package) selected. Click Ok to add that interface. For now, un-check the option to create "Inherited abstract methods" (if checked) and enter the class name as TetrisAI then click Finish. Notice that the new file declaration says public class TetrisAI implements AI. This is what tells Java that we intend to be compatible with any system that can work with the AIinterface. You'll also notice Eclipse is already showing an error on the class declaration line. Click the tiny red X in the margin and double-click "Add unimplemented methods" from the pop-up. This asks Eclipse to generate all the method placeholders for you! (The option you un-checked earlier would have done the same thing; this way you're able to see exactly what it's doing.) Save the file, and check out your new code. It's already compatible with the game system, even though all it does is return placeholders. That's not very useful, of course, but it's actually plenty to get started. Let's see if it's recognized by the game engine. Launch the application again, type Ctrl-P to activate the Player AI, and confirm that the console says the Player AI is now on. If so, go ahead and type P to start the game. Well, that's not very exciting. The console just keeps saying that the AI selected an invalid move for each shape, and we still have to manually place the pieces. That's fair enough, since all we have are placeholders that Eclipse generated for us, but at least we know the game found our AI and seems to be communicating with it. Close the game again now so we can code a little more. Let's at least provide a valid suggestion, even if it's always exactly the same suggestion. In the findBestPlacement() method, let's replace the placeholder: return null; with this: return new Placement(Rotation.NONE, 0); Eclipse will complain that it doesn't know about the Rotation class yet, so again click the tiny X in the margin and double-click to import the Rotation class from the edu.vt.cs5044 package. That should resolve the error, so save your file again. This really doesn't seem like much of an improvement, but we'll try it anyway. Launch the game and use Ctrl-P then P to check it out. Now it's just placing everything against the left edge (column 0) without any rotation, which is still fairly uninteresting. However, it's clear that our AI is actually placing the pieces automatically for us! Things can only get better from here. Close the game once you're ready to code again. Need More Input (accidental AI, maybe) Obviously we need to examine the shape and the state of the board in order to make some reasonable decisions. Let's take a look at all those Javadocs that make up the API. In your source file click within the word AI of "implements AI" and type Shift-F2. This should open the Javadocs for the AI interface using an internal browser within Eclipse. You can set it to use an external browser, if you prefer, but this is fine for now. Reading the Javadocs, click the findBestPlacement() method and you'll see it actually provides a brief outline of a strategy. We apparently need to iterate over each possible rotation, and for each rotation we need to iterate over every possible column placement. For each of these, we need ask the Board object to tell us what the result of any hypothetical move would be. Click the method Board.getResultBoard() to see how that works. The Javadocs say that the original board instance is not modified, and we'll get a new board instance that we can examine. That will meet our needs, but how do we examine one of these hypothetical results? There are only a few other methods available in the Board class. One provides a human-readable rendering of the board, which might prove very useful to visualize what's happening while debugging, and another promising method seems to let us query any location within the board to see which locations are occupied by fixed blocks. There are also some static constants that tell us the overall size of the board, plus two constructors. One of the constructors allows us to generate arbitrary board configurations, which is exactly what we'll need in order to create some nice test cases. Don't forget about TDD! Click the Package link at the very top of any Javadoc page to see the package overview, then navigate throughout the various pages to see what each class and enum can do, along with the requirements for the interface. A fundamental part of this assignment is to learn how to use Javadocs to explore unknown libraries, as well as to see how a somewhat larger scale system is divided into multiple classes, each with its own purpose. Note that class Tetris5044 is for internal use only; you won't need it at all. Also, classes RandomMode and ShapeStream are only needed for the optional "challenge" section below. Strategy Games There's no such thing as a perfect Tetris strategy, so we won't even try. We are necessarily taking the heuristic (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. approach to this problem, and there will necessarily be trade-offs involved. In every placement decision, there are advantages and disadvantages. How can we hope to find the "best" placement? Now is probably a good time to look at those other methods in the interface. Costs and Benefits From the API, it seems the remaining methods of the interface are related to making some measurements to evaluate a board position. The idea here is that we'll compute four distinct "cost" scores, or factors, which tell our system something about how bad (or good) a particular placement might be. We'll need to develop those method first, before we can hope to have a working AI system. We're still focusing on TDD, so start with some fairly straightforward test cases to ensure the individual scoring methods work. Just construct a test board object, then assert the cost score you expect your implementation to compute. Once all of your individual cost scoring methods are working properly as expected, its time to put it all together. The findBestPlacement() method will need to iterate through all the possible placements, and for each it will combine these individual cost scores in a weighted sum, then choose the lowest cost to return to the game engine. The weightings are important so that certain factors can have more influence on the overall decision than others. At first you can just set all the weights to 1, by simply summing the individual scores together, even though eventually we'll need to adjust the weights to achieve better results. Strategic Default Luck plays a starring role in Tetris. Even with the best of strategies, it's critical to recognize that some games simply provide a more fortunate sequence of shapes than others. Thus it can be difficult to objectively judge exactly how good a particular strategy might be. To help with this, our implementation provides a set of 4 repeatable test sequences we can use as a benchmark. The average number of pieces placed from these 4 test sequences will act as a very reasonable metric of how well our strategy is working overall. Teaching to the Test Eventually we'll be making a linear combination of our four scores, which just means we multiply each score by some weight, then add the weighted scores. The equation is very straightforward: overallCost = weight1*score1 + weight2*score2 + weight3*score3 + weight4*score4 Computing the individual scores really isn't too bad, but what about the weights? As noted above, we can start by simply setting all the weights to 1, and indeed that strategy will place an average of exactly 135 pieces across the four provided test sequences. If your weights are all 1, and your placement average is anything else, you very likely have an issue with either the weights or the algorithm for finding the best weights. You should resolve this before continuing (but please go ahead and read the rest now). Standards of Learning Can we do better? Sure! As a start, reasonable weight ranges for the selected factors will be 0 through 15. You can just use trial-and-error if you wish; watch your AI play the test games and try to figure out which factors need more or less emphasis. For example, if your AI is creating too many unnecessary gaps, try to increase the weight of the gap count score. Be sure to use Turbo mode in conjunction with all the Random TEST modes. Your AI must be able to place at least 175 pieces, on average, across the provided test sequences. Try adjusting your weights in increments of 5, meaning weight values of 0, 5, 10, and 15. Of the 256 possible combinations of 0, 5, 10, and 15 as weights, about 12% will result in this level of performance, so guessing will eventually yield a good combination. You don't need to provide a JUnit test to demonstrate this performance, but Web-CAT will check whether your system meets this minimum or not. More than Full Coverage Unlike in the previous assignment, creating JUnit tests to cover all of your code will be very straightforward, since there aren't very many branches involved in the solution. You can likely achieve full coverage with just one well-designed test case that asserts something about each method. As a result, complete coverage is not nearly enough to ensure you have correctly implemented your code. Therefore, you must generate at least 5 test cases for each interface method, with non-trivial test boards and non-trivial assertions. You can satisfy this by creating at least 5 distinct test boards to be shared among assertions involving all the test methods. Just be sure the test boards cover a reasonably wide range of board layouts. Note that Web-CAT won't (and can't) enforce this requirement, but the human grader will definitely be looking for this. Functional Decomposition Judicious use of helper methods can significantly reduce the overall amount of code you need to develop. For example, you might want to create a helper method that returns the height of one specified column. You can then call that method from within a loop of all columns, and use the return value to help compute some of the cost factors your. Your code will be inspected during the human review for redundancies, so be sure to develop helper methods wherever appropriate. Automating the Automation (An OPTIONAL Challenge) You might have noticed that it can get somewhat tedious to try every combination of 0, 5, 10, and 15 for each of the weights, even in Turbo mode. You might have also noticed that you've been given sufficient tools to run entire simulated games without the user interface at all. As a challenge, see if you can identify the very best combination of 0, 5, 10, and 15 weights, by writing a separate class file called edu.vt.cs5044.WeightFinder with its own main() method. This file will be completely ignored by Web-CAT, and you don't need to generate any tests for it at all. You'll also need to add a public method, such as setWeights(int w1, int w2, int w3, int w4) to your TetrisAI implementation, to apply the various weight combinations. This method will need to be exercised by a single assert, just to be sure it's covered within your own JUnit tests. The best weights among these combinations will place an average of over 675 pieces for the test sequences. Once you've found the optimum combination, you'll need to hard-code those values back into your AI implementation as the defaults, in order to watch them in action. That's quite an improvement, unless you happened to get very lucky in your trial and error phase! Confirm that this is all working as expected, and that you're definitely placing over 675 pieces on average for the test sequences before the next part of the challenge. It should be a simple change to your code to try stepping by 3 instead of 5 (meaning you should test every combination of 0, 3, 6, 9, 12, and 15 for every weight). This process takes about 5-10 times longer to run than stepping by 5. However, if everything was already working properly, you'll only need to do this once, and you'll discover that your newly-tuned weights will average over 2,700 pieces placed for the test sequences. We'll call that a definite win! Still not satisfied? You can always try stepping by 1 instead. Again it's a trivial code change, but note that this process takes about 50-100 times longer to run than stepping by 3, so we're likely talking about a few hours at this point. However, your newly-optimized AI possess the astonishing capability of averaging over 6,750 pieces placed for the test sequences! It's actually over ten times the best average you can achieve when iterating by fives. (By the way, you can stop your iterations when you reach this goal; there's nothing better to find than this when stepping by ones.) You might be somewhat surprised when you discover the optimum weightings. When you watch this particular combination in action, it's interesting to compare the variation in results between TEST3 (the worst) and TEST4 (the best). If you make any progress with this OPTIONAL challenge, please add a brief write-up in the comments of your WeightFinder class, just to let us know what you did, along with any thoughts you'd like to share about the experience. Of course you may also discuss this in Piazza, although please don't post your code (or any weightings you find) to the entire class, so as not to spoil the fun for anyone else. Hopefully you enjoyed this challenge! Read the full article

How to Speed Up Firefox

Your web browser of choice is truly the gateway into accessing the global Internet. The web has been growing exponentially, and we have seen tremendous changes to browsing software as well. Mozilla has been keeping up well considering the recent release of Firefox 10 which has seen mostly positive review. But as we all know, your web browser tends to slow down over time with repeated use. Firefox is not immune to this, but there are some tweaks you can use to optimize the browsing experience. The key values we’re looking for include startup speed, reduced load times, and accessible web pages. Check out some of my tips in the guide below if you’re looking to enhance the Firefox experience!
Quick Shortcut Commands
A good place to start is with a few handy keyboard shortcuts. These can be difficult to memorize at first, but over repeated use you’ll begin to adopt the routine. And I feel there’s no better way to speed up your web browsing experience than mastering a few shortcut keys. Only a couple examples may seem relevant to your needs. We don’t all require the same knowledge and so one command may be totally pointless to somebody else. If you check through Google you’ll likely find very helpful articles for the more common shortcuts.
1. Clear Private Data
Security is of the utmost importance to consider whenever you’re surfing the web. Even by today’s standards things are a lot less risky than 5 or 10 years ago. But you should understand how private browsing data is stored and what you can do to clear your info.

This short menu which pops up is a condensed version of the settings panel. You can choose how far back in time to clear out along with specific types of data such as cookies, cached pages, active login sessions, etc. I recommend that you clear everything within the list every time you close down the browser window. This is only my personal preference to keep my data secure – but of course you should adopt some form of routine cleanup which works best for you. Shortcut – Ctrl + Shift + Delete
2. Add-Ons Toolbar
The Firefox add-ons menu is a small toolbar which appears at the bottom of your Firefox window. From here you can access add-on commands and menus which are normally reserved from within the regular plug-ins area. This may be one of the lesser-known shortcuts but does come in handy frequently. If you like to keep your browser slim with reduced add-ons then this may pose as a bit uninteresting. And I have to agree that fewer 3rd-party extensions means much quicker browser performance. Just keep this in mind as you’re testing out new add-ons from time to time. Shortcut – Ctrl + /
3. Open Downloads Window
There have been numerous instances using Firefox where I’ve been downloading files and accidentally clicked out of the downloads window. It’s a harmless gesture, though it can be a pain to find your menu again. This command brings up not just your active downloads but also recent history of previous files – very handy when you forget which folder you saved into! Shortcut – Ctrl+J Note: For Mac users, replace Ctrl with Command.
Increase Local Cache Storage
When Firefox saves a cached version of website content it reduces any future requests needed for re-downloading code. By default you can only max out to 1GB of saved cache from the web. But this is likely such a small amount compared to your overall disk space, it’s well worth the effort to update your cache sizes. I recall Firefox 8.0 had local cache storage at 256MB by default. Honestly this is a fair amount of room, especially if you’re clearing out private data at the end of each session. Yet if you browse for hours at a time each repeat website visit will accumulate possibly 10-15 minutes of saved load screens.

In the top menu open Tools -> Options or Firefox -> Preferences... on Mac and click on the Advanced Tab. Somewhere in the middle of this menu you’ll see “Limit cache to” along with a number input. I’ve chosen 1024MB which happens to be the maximum allowed. Simply hit OK and restart the browser for this to take effect.
Popular yet Minimalist Add-Ons
It’s a good idea to keep wary of installing too many extensions into Firefox. The browser will begin to lag fairly quickly if you neglect to disable unused add-ons, but luckily it’s also an easy process to remove them. Below are a couple of the most popular user-voted add-ons which won’t interfere with your speed or page performance.
1. Download Status Bar
In particular this is a very helpful addon I’ve come to love since first installing. The download statusbar is not obtrusive or even displayed in any way until you download a file. Instead of having a new window appear you get a neat toolbar at the very bottom of your browser window.

From this you can check the total file size and amount remaining, along with an estimate of time remaining for the download to complete. You can single-click on a file to pause and even remove items from the queue. My process of downloading files has become more streamlined than ever now that I’m not dealing with a new window for my items list. If you haven’t tried this out yet I highly recommend giving it a shot!
2. WOT – Check Trustworthy Websites
The funky plug-in with a weird name actually has taken me by surprise! As the title says: WOT – Know Which Websites to Trust provides a rating for every website you visit. These are backed by users of the software who have given rankings to sites all over the Internet.

Many users feel this has little-to-no purpose since you can gauge the legitimacy of a website within the first few seconds of landing. Definitely true, but I do frequently cycle through random websites found in social network communities like StumbleUpon. In this scenario I feel WOT hasn’t provided any first step security, but it does help me build credibility and trust for domains I run into through differing sources.
3. Element Hiding Helper for ABP
Most Firefox users are familiar with Adblock Plus which has proven time and again as a sure-fire ads remover. From this core a developer Wladimir Palantfrom ABP released an extension called Element Hiding Helper. Now you can target any specific page element and choose to block it regardless of the internal content. This is perfect for when you don’t want to block all advertisements on a website but you need to remove 1 or 2 of them for whatever reason. Often times video websites will have loud audio ads start playing out of nowhere – and this plug-in is the perfect remedy. You can choose to remove things other than advertisements, such as annoying JavaScript apps or specific HTML blocks within the page layout.
4. Speed Dial
This feature has become standard to users of the Opera browser and more recently has been picked up by Google Chrome. Yet the speed dial home page setup was never implemented into Firefox in any majorly functional way.

This plug-in gives you total control over which links appear where in the 9-box grid system. You have easy access to manipulate settings as well, such as default thumbnail height/width and a few keyboard shortcuts. Overall the software has a lot of support from the Mozilla userbase. If you want to learn more check out the official website for detailed features and release notes.
System Edits in about:config
Firefox users have the ability to edit internal variables within the software from the configuration area. Simply open a new tab, type about:config and hit enter. You’ll come to a warning page mentioning the dangers of blindly changing these settings. But we know what we’re doing, so just hit “I’ll be careful” and you’ll be directed to sorted table of values.

Each of the values in the far left column are associated with a type of variable name. These control instances of how the software runs and performs in the background. I have just a few suggestions for reliable edits.
1. Increase pipelining
In the filter box at the top type in network.http.pipelining.maxrequests. This should limit your field to a single value row set at 4. We can increase this number to 8, which means Firefox can request data through 8 different channels rather than 4 – greatly decreasing your waiting time! Once you edit this value above you’ll need to enable pipelining to see any major effects. Do a search for network.http.pipelining and the first value should be set to false by default. You want to change this to true by double-clicking on the table row.
2. Disable placeholder images
Sometimes when Firefox realizes a page is going to take a while to download it will apply placeholder images. This is to prevent page content from rendering improperly while waiting for the image data. It seems like a good idea in concept, and it does have value but I feel disabling this feature will keep the requested content organized. In the filter box do a search for browser.display.show_image_placeholders which should be set as true. Double-click to change this to false and we should be all set.
3. Disable interface animations
While we’re removing unnecessary features let’s turn our attention to the browser UI. By default Firefox uses a small animation effect whenever you open or switch onto a new tab. It seems small at a glance but once you disable this you’ll be shocked at how much quicker you can move and create tabs. Just do a search for browser.tabs.animate and change the value to false.
4. Increase persistent connections
This variable is similar to pipelining except now we’re looking to open more connections on the server end. This is set much lower at first to keep Firefox downloading at a steady pace. But if you are downloading larger content such as streaming audio or video more persistent connections will mean more data collected at once. In the filter box enter network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server and you should find only one result. By default the value should be 6, but double-click and change to 8. Then hit okay and restart your browser for these effects to kick in!
Conclusion
With so many options in today’s browser market Firefox appears to be holding a steady place. Their engineers know how to build stable software as it has been a reliable brand for years. With the endless number of plugins and extensions free to download there are solutions for practically any problem. I hope these tips can provide a solid foundation for optimizing your web browsing experience. If you have any other great ideas for speeding up Firefox please let us know in the discussion area.
