The story of #NDTV ownership involves media mogul Rupert Murdoch, the infamous Indiabulls, fugitive liquor baron Vijay Mallya, Mukesh Ambani, and now Gautam Adani who bought it from him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
NDTV’s ownership changed hands many times over the years but @ndtv has always sat pretty in corporate Godi (lap). The story goes like this:
In the late 1980s and early 1990s, when Doordarshan started commissioning news/current affairs shows to private companies, Prannoy Roy and Radhika Roy took the opportunity and started making current affairs programs for it using DD’s resources.
After a policy shift, when private news channels got the permission to downlink, many companies including NDTV came into the channel business. But Roys weren’t the investors. Rupert Murdoch’s company STAR put in the money and NDTV provided the content.
Thus, the NDTV-Star alliance took shape in 1998. The name of the channel was Star News. Pranay Roy had found a filthy rich Godi.
The contract was for five years. But NDTV failed to provide good exciting content. Star News was losing viewership. NDTV employed kids of many top bureaucrats. They loved studio-based TV and discussion-based shows. Ground reporting was not their idea of journalism.
NDTV's Hindi channel NDTV India was launched in 2001. It had fierce competitors like Aaj Tak and Zee News. NDTV India has had an image of a lazy channel from day one. No energy. Anchors loved giving long sermons.
This channel could not withstand the energy of Aaj Tak and Zee. NDTV India survived on the revenue of its English sibling, which wasn’t much. NDTV Profit, the third channel, also never took off properly. CNBC was the leader in business news space.
Rupert Murdoch's deal with NDTV was to continue till 2003. But his son James Murdoch was getting restless. Money was draining out. Content provider (NDTV) wasn’t doing its job properly. Viewership remained a big problem area.
Then Murdoch said ‘Enough is enough’. Soon after the deal period ended in 2003, Murdoch launched his own Star News in India. It later changed hands and became ABP News. NDTV was forced to launch its own channel with its own money.
Until now, NDTV was being run with the help of government money (Doordarshan’s resources) and later on Rupert Murdoch’s money.
Prannoy Roy's business acumen was tested and he failed. Within 3 years of the termination of the contract with Murdoch, the company became so battered that in 2006, it had to take a loan of Rs 400 crore from Indiabulls. Indiabulls perhaps had some ill-gotten money.
NDTV’s finances had gone terribly wrong. The company was battered but instead of reducing expenditure, it started investing in new unviable projects. In 2007, Prannoy Roy launched another channel NDTV Good Times by signing up with liquor baron Vijay Mallya.
NDTV got Rs 100 crore advertisement commitments from Vijay Mallya. Good Times never clicked with the audience. People had access to fashion TV. NDTV Imagine, a Hindi entertainment channel, also failed.
NDTV also tried to go local and launched Metro Nation in Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai. For the Chennai version, NDTV roped in The Hindu Group. These local channels were a disaster.
NDTV might still have survived had there not been a global recession. Advertisement revenue shrunk dramatically after 2008 and avenues for easy money closed shut. NDTV was on its way to doom.
To repay Indiabulls, NDTV took a loan from ICICI. To pay off this debt, it took a loan from Ambani's front company VPCL.
But NDTV was in no mood to repay the loan. Perhaps it didn’t have the money.
TRP ratings were going south and revenue from advertisements was negligible. In the meantime, VPCL ownership changed thrice. In the third instance, Nahata, an Ambani front man, sold off VPCL to Adani.
VPCL owns 30% of NDTV. Adani media is now moving to have complete control of NDTV through open offer. The loan that once belonged to Ambani was transferred to Adani. SEBI has endorsed Adani’s position in this matter.
The only mystery in this story is why Ambani sold off the loan provider and thus a large stake in NDTV to Adani. There are two likely reasons. First, Ambani did not want to own the NDTV channel.
People weren’t watching it and it wasn’t making money. Moreover, some people in the channel wanted to bring a ‘revolution’ with corporate money.
Second, someone from the government or BJP explained to Ambani that he already controls one-third of the media space in the country. Let Adani take NDTV. No government wants media monopoly.
Similar things happened when Ambani tried to take over Zee Entertainment. He failed to seal the deal. Zee finally tied up with Sony and the company did not go to Ambani. It seems that the central government had shown displeasure over the proposed takeover.
In Niira Radia Tape #132, Radia was actually heard saying that (the Ambani group) had to help Prannoy Roy. That was in 2009. Ambani money came soon after. That tape is now with the Supreme Court.

My Final Innings as DDG NCC Directorate, Gujarat
We reached Ahmedabad in the beginning of Aug 2004, after my professionally enriching  tenure in Army HQ. It was once again a privilege when we moved directly into a spacious Bungalow, designated as the “NCC House”, located within the Ahmedabad Cantonment. Next day, I was welcomed by an impressive Guard of Honour, presented by the NCC Cadets at HQ NCC Directorate office complex. Thereafter, I was introduced to all my Staff Officers & the Group Commanders. It was followed by briefings about the scope of various training activities and Camps, conducted as well as planned  by all the Group HQ & Units, across the entire State of Gujarat and the Union Territory of Diu & Daman. NCC Units were located in all the Districts and  functioned under their respective Group HQ, located at Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Vallabh Vidya Nagar ( near Anand ) and Rajkot. NCC coverage extended to 250 Colleges & 350 Schools. The total strength of Cadets was 53,000 which included both Senior Division ( College students)  & Junior Division ( School students ). The Cadets were further grouped into Army/Naval/Air Wing.
In the very first week, I completed my familiarisation visits to all the Group HQ & the locations where Camps were already in progress.  I availed this opportunity to meet all the training staff which was organised into three tiers ----  Officers from all the three Services,  Associate NCC Officers ( ANOs ) from the Colleges & Schools  & the Permanent Instructional Staff ( PI Staff ) comprising JCOs and NCOs from the three Services. These visits gave me an overview of the magnitude of the challenges for “Grooming Tomorrow’s Leaders”, in accordance with the vision of the NCC. I visualised the intricacies of planning and execution of this unique training of NCC Cadets, as per  the structured syllabus. Training  was to be conducted utilising the existing  infrastructure  and the  authorisation of resources such as vehicles, clothing & equipment, the weapons & ammunition;  specific for each of the three Wings of NCC. I was briefed about the system of funding various activities and the budgetary allocations by the Directorate General NCC ( DGNCC )  and the Govt of Gujarat. It entailed efficient financial management.
It was a pleasant surprise when I was among the dignitaries to be invited to a special function at Raj Bhawan on the occasion of the Independance Day. It was perhaps destined that during this function, I got the opportunity to have my first interaction with Shri Narendra Modi, the Honourable Chief Minister of Gujarat. He congratulated my selection for shouldering this new responsibility and desired that the momentum of NCC must continue to be maintained,  with a focus towards it’s motto ---- “Unity and Discipline”. He was nostalgic when he narrated  his own experiences as a NCC Cadet in his younger days. He further expressed his views about the concept of  compulsory NCC training. I was then introduced to Smt  Anandiben Patel, the Honourable Education Minister, who assured all the requisite  support for the NCC activities in Gujarat. Both these interactions triggered a thought of planning an adventure activity, which would motivate the NCC Cadets professionally. I conducted a brain storming session with my Group Commanders to suggest viable options. It took us about a week to finalise  a proposal for a Vehicle Expedition upto Siachen Base Camp. This proposal was immediately sent both to the DGNCC & the Govt of Gujarat for approval. The  Expedition was assigned the name ----- PURUSHARTH.
We began the preparations for this novel adventure on top priority. The selection of the Cadets and other participants was completed through a process of competition between several Cadets from the Senior Division of all the Groups. Simultaneously, M/s Reliance Industries & M/s  Mahindra & Mahindra volunteered to assist the Expedition by providing two Scorpio & three Bolero vehicles respectively.  Meanwhile, approval was received for launching the Expedition. Finally, the Team was announced consisting of Group Commander Ahmedabad Group, three officers including two ANOs, four JCOs / NCOs and five lashkars. In addition, two representatives from the TV Channel “Aaj Tak” expressed their desire to accompany for the media coverage. The  entire Team was issued special clothing & equipment for utilising in high altitude terrain. We organised rigorous practice of long distance driving and endurance  before the launch. The Expedition was flagged off from Ahmedabad by Shri Narendra Modi, the Honourable Chief Minister of Gujarat on 26 Sep 2004. He specially expressed his gratitude about all  the assistance provided by the NCC Cadets after the earthquake in Bhuj in Jan 2001.
Tumblr media
The route for the Expedition was planned to cover approx 6000 kms  in 17 days and the time plot was intimated to all the NCC Directorates enroute to facilitate logistic support. It was a different experience, with different challenges, in different environment during  each phase of the arduous journey. The most challenging  phases were the journey from Manali to Leh crossing the Rohtang Pass at 15,000 ft and the final leg from Leh to Siachen Base Camp across the famous Khardungla Pass at 18,300 ft.  The Team witnessed a very impressive training demonstration at the Siachen Battle School,  inspite of  the adverse weather conditions and the effects of high altitude terrain. Personally, it was a trip down memory lane since I returned  to this prestigious location for the third successive year.
Tumblr media
We set course on our return journey to Leh where we had a night halt. Next day was spent in local sightseeing and visit to the famous Pangong Tso Lake. We then proceeded to Drass via Kargil. Briefing cum Presentation about the Kargil War was conducted at Drass, which refreshed the memories of all the valiant battles won by our Units & Formations  in this Sector. Subsequent journey involved crossing the Zojila Pass at 12,000 ft before reaching Srinagar for a night halt. Next day we moved as a part of Army convoy to Jammu, crossing the famous Banihal Tunnel at 9,000 ft. It proved to be an equally fascinating journey. Thereafter, I returned to Ahmedabad  by flight from Jammu.  The Expedition continued the return journey through the plains of Punjab, the deserts of Rajasthan and skirted around the Little Rann of Kutch, encountering yet another set of diverse experiences. Finally, Team PURUSHARTH returned to Ahmedabad on 14 Oct 2004, to a rousing reception after successful accomplishment of their Mission. Incidentally, it coincided with the first day of the most popular festival in Gujarat --- the Navratri festival.
It was the appropriate festival when our children came over from Pune for spending  their first vacation in the “NCC House”. We participated in the Navratri celebrations in Rajkot  where we witnessed the customs and rituals  followed in Saurashtra region. In Ahmedabad, we began our visits by paying respects at the historic Sabarmati Ashram. In the subsequent days, we visited  Akshar Dham and Kankariya Lake. We visited the National Integration Camp at Anand and  thereafter  availed the  opportunity to witness the processes adopted at AMUL, known for the White Revolution.  Thereafter, we went to Vadodara and visited the magnificent Laxmi Vilas Palace built by Maharaja Gaekwad in 1890. Subsequently, we went to Kevadia and saw the impressive Sardar Sarovar Dam ,which is the second largest concrete dam in the world. As usual, at all these locations, shopping trips were followed up by tasting a variety of Gujarati cuisine. Subsequently, ANA went back to Pune from Vadodara itself, hoping to return whenever feasible.
Tumblr media
On return to Ahmedabad, I focused my attention towards selection of the Contingent for participation in the Republic Day Camp ( RDC ) scheduled  at Delhi in Jan every year. The RDC is the final competition between the Cadets of all the NCC Directorates.  Competitions at the National level were held earlier separately for each Wing,  during Thal Sainik Camp ( TSC ), Nau Sainik Camp ( NSC ) and Vayu Sainik Camp ( VSC ). In order to select the Cadets for the RDC, we conducted inter Group competitions for all the events such as Drill, Firing, Obstacle Course, Camp layout, Flag area, State Presentation & Cultural events. Consequently, the best performers were selected for each event  and coached further by expert instructors. The Contingent left by a reserved compartment, in the direct train from Ahmedabad in the last week of Dec.
I went to Delhi in the first week of Jan 2005  and witnessed  high standard of competitions between all the NCC Directorates. The Cadets for the Youth Exchange Programs ( YEP ) to foreign countries were also selected during the RDC. Four of our Cadets were selected as members of YEP to Russia, Singapore, Vietnam and Bangladesh. It was a lifetime achievement  for 30 of our Cadets ( SD & SW ) who were selected in the main NCC Contingent for the march past on the Raj Path on 26 Jan. It was a journey down memory lane, when I witnessed once again  the grand  Republic Day Parade.  The Prime Minister’s Rally for the NCC Cadets was  conducted on the next day and  was the culminating event of the RDC. We felt so proud since  our Contingent secured overall Fifth position out of 16 NCC  Directorates. The Contingent returned to Ahmedabad and was given the customary welcome at the Raj Bhawan. The Governor of Gujarat complimented all the Cadets and exhorted them to continue their pursuit of excellence.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the next two months, the pace of NCC activities reduced since the Cadets got busy with their  studies prior to the final exams. In this period, myself and all the Group Commanders evolved plans  for improvement in the infrastructure for conduct of Camps and creation of training facilities such as firing ranges, obstacle courses and parade ground for each NCC Unit. The proposals were compiled and the requirement of funds projected both to the DGNCC  and to the State Govt. I assigned the responsibility to each Group HQ  for selection and training of the Contingents for national level competitions and Camps during the next Training Year. All the Group HQ were instructed  to organise special SSB coaching capsules for  the Cadets who were aspiring to join the Armed Forces. Each Group HQ was also  assigned the task of conducting one major event at the national level ---- Trekking expedition/ Sailing expedition/ National Integration Camp/ Advance Leadership Camp. In addition, all the Units were directed to carry out the social activities in their area of jurisdiction. In this context, the assistance rendered by our Cadets in the monsoon season, for flood relief operations in Surat was indeed commendable.
Routine training of the Cadets of all the three Wings commenced in the  Training Year 2005/06, after the additional enrollment of  Cadets to fill up the vacancies created by the Cadets who had completed their NCC  training. By now, the funds had been sanctioned and  allotted for the new Projects as proposed and the works began at all the locations after the monsoon season. The Camps were organised as per the schedule to prepare the Contingents for TSC/NSC/VSC.  Our next major event was the Narmada Sailing Expedition involving participation by 50  Cadets of the Naval Wing in mid Sep. I accompanied the Cadets during this exciting  adventure,  sailing down the Narmada river, from Garudeshwar to Bhadbhooth, using  Whaler boats &  Power boats. Another major event was the All India Trekking Expedition which was conducted at Sasan Gir.  All the NCC Directorates were represented in this Camp, having a total strength of 1000 Cadets. The Cadets got a chance to visit Somnath Temple, revered as one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. We also organised their visit to Gir Wild life Sanctuary.
Meanwhile, based on the experience of our Expedition to Siachen Base Camp in the previous year, we evolved a plan for yet another Vehicle Expedition this year, to another challenging destination --- Nathu La  in Sikkim. Our proposal got instant approval and funding , both from the Govt of Gujarat and the DGNCC. The process of selection and training of the Team was repeated. It was a different Team for this adventure activity and consisted of the Group Commander of Ahmedabad Group along with 2 officers, 2 ANOs, 25 SD Cadets & 5 JCOs/ NCOs. The Expedition was planned for a duration of three weeks and was assigned the name ---- SWASTIK. The route was selected through six States and  the NCC Directorates enroute  provided necessary logistic support to facilitate our night halts and maintenance of our convoy consisting seven Scorpio vehicles. The Expedition was flagged off from Ahmedabad on 25 Oct 2005.
Tumblr media
It was really time consuming and strenuous  experience while negotiating  certain stretches in MP and Bihar where road conditions had deteriorated.  However, the journey on the roads in Sikkim was most comfortable, affording scenic views of the Teesta River and the mountainous landscape till Gangtok. As planned, we had a two day halt at Gangtok to enable acclimatisation before proceeding to Nathu La, located at an altitude of 14, 500 ft. It was an exciting feeling for the Cadets  to witness the Chinese posts just across the LAC at Nathu La.  We paid homage at the War Memorial and descended to Chhangu Lake, which was partially frozen. Thereafter, as per the local custom, we paid respects at the Harbhajan Baba Shrine before commencing our return journey to Gangtok. Next day, we left Gangtok before sunrise to visit the sacred Gurudongmar Lake in North Sikkim. It was a spiritual experience to observe the miracle  that  the Lake situated at 17,800 ft was not frozen.
Tumblr media
We reached Gangtok late at night, fully exhausted but full of lovely memories. Next morning, we set course for Darjeeling for the night  halt. Next morning, we  were lucky to witness  the majestic view of Kanchenjunga at sunrise due to clear visibility. Thereafter, I boarded the flight from Bagdogra and reached Ahmedabad via Kolkata. The Team began it’s return journey via Gaya -- Allahabad -- Gwalior -- Udaipur and finally reached  Ahmedabad on 12 Nov 2005. They felt so proud  with the  grand welcome on completion of their Mission.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, selection and preparation for the RDC 2006  was in progress. I proceeded to Pune to avail part of Annual Leave and returned prior to departure of the Contingent for RDC. All the efforts put in systematically by the Team of  Instructors & the enthusiastic Cadets paid dividends, since we improved our performance in the RDC  by securing overall  Third  position among 16 NCC Directorates. This year 12 Cadets were selected for the Youth Exchange Programs. It was a matter of pride for the Contingent, to receive greater appreciation from the Governor of Gujarat,  during the formal ceremony held at the Raj Bhawan on our return. In addition, we received special accolades from the Chief Minister & the Education Minister, who were always a source of motivation and inspiration for all the activities of  the NCC.
Tumblr media
In Feb, we conducted Advance Leadership Camp at Mehsana. It gave the Cadets  an opportunity to visit the renowned Sun Temple at Modhera. The sanctum sanctorium is designed in a manner that on the days of the solar equinox, exactly at sunrise, the rays of the Sun light up the image of Surya. It was  an amazing phenomenon. Another major activity was the National Integration Camp conducted  at Jamnagar in Apr. We organised a visit to the Jamnagar Refinery. Meanwhile, our relatives came over from Aurangabad and we joined them for a visit at  Dwarka & Bet Dwarka. Thereafter, we traveled on the beautiful coastal route via  Porbandar --- Somnath --- Bhavnagar, before returning to Ahmedabad.
In the next Training Year 2006/07, we introduced  several new activities in the Camps at the Unit / Group level. The emphasis  was on Personality development of the Cadets by enhancing their  communication skills, improving the standards of Drill & Firing and the performance in NCC Certificate Exams. The training of Cadets of Naval Wing & Air Wing was also intensified after  allotment of additional resources. Attachment training for Senior Wing  was also conducted with the Army Units in Bhuj, Jamnagar, Vadodara, Dhrangadhra & Ahmedabad. New enrollment was carried out in various Schools & Colleges, specially in Diu & Daman. We also stressed on improving standards of ship modelling, sailing , rowing, aero modelling & skeet shooting.  As a result of these new initiatives, we  could improve our performance in TSC/NSC/VSC and Mavlankar Shooting Competition.  It also enabled refining the training  for the ultimate Goal --- RDC 2007.
I went on Annual Leave to Pune in Oct/ Nov and we celebrated  Diwali festival, together as a family after a long time. We returned by mid Nov, before  the NCC Day, which is always scheduled on the fourth Sunday of Nov.  On this occasion,  Shri Narendra Modi, the Honourable Chief Minister accepted our invitation and graced us with his presence. The main highlight was the inauguration of  the NCC Chowk at the entrance of Ahmedabad Group HQ. It was significant that two 25 Pounder Guns of World War vintage were displayed in the centre of the traffic island. Thereafter, the CM  laid the foundation stone for creation of permanent Camping facility, within the premises of Ahmedabad Group HQ, which would facilitate conduct of the major NCC Camps in the future. The entire Project was funded by the Govt of Gujarat.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In mid Dec, I was fortunate  to be selected for a special management Course at XLRI, Jamshedpur. It was structured for a duration of six months and was termed “General Management Program”, designed for the officers from the Defence Services, in order to facilitate their transition to the Corporate world. I attended this Course from mid Jan to end of Jun 2007. It was a real challenge for me to grasp the key aspects of all the management subjects at the macro level in such a short duration, from the expert Faculty members at the XLRI. Incidentally, on completion of just one month of the Course, I received intimation from  the Army HQ which specified 30 Sep 2007 as the date of my retirement due to superannuation. Perhaps, it was destined in view of the steep pyramid structure, specially at the higher levels in the Army.  It certainly evoked feelings of nostalgia since my innings as DDG NCC Directorate Gujarat  would end within three months of conclusion of my Course. It  would also signify the end of my memorable journey of four decades in the prestigious Uniform, while keeping the ‘Chetwode Motto’ as a guiding beacon throughout!!
On conclusion of the last Course in my long career, I returned to the “NCC House”, which was  a real home coming. In the next three months, I reviewed the progress of all the Projects which had been sanctioned and visited all the Units and the Group HQ. I conveyed  my appreciation for the standard of achievement in the wide spectrum of activities conducted by the NCC fraternity in Gujarat. The outstanding contribution by Group Captain Tahlan, Director & all the Group Commanders ( Col Anklesaria, Col Sanjay Kulkarni, Col Easow & Col Shirish Kulkarni ) deserve special praise. In the last week of Sep, I was honoured by a farewell by the Education Minister in her office in Gandhi Nagar. Thereafter,  I had a meeting with Shri Narendra Modi, the Honorable Chief Minister and expressed my gratitude for his benevolence in supporting and encouraging all the activities in the NCC. The final function was the formal dining out party hosted by all the officers & families of the NCC fraternity in Gujarat.  It was an emotional moment for both myself & Sanjivani,  when I was chaired out for the last time, as the “Jolly good fellow”, while the Band played the magical tune --- Auld Lang Syne!! The grand  farewell from my office was organised on 30 Sep 2007. At exactly mid-day, I took the final salute  from the Guard of Honour presented by the NCC Cadets and was escorted till the “NCC House”  in the traditional manner. I still cherish the memories of all the  moments throughout my journey of four decades. However, 30 Sep 2007, will always remain  a moment of transformation, since I became a ‘Veteran’ of the Indian Army!!!

This story is about Prafull Billore (MBA Chaiwala), whose dream was to pursue MBA from a reputed college and acquire a hefty package. But this dream was not fulfilled, but he did not give up.
He started with a small job with McDonald’s, and later, opened his own venture. He began with a mini tea stall at the roadside and today his unique style has made him a topic of discussion all over.
His work was appreciated on social media and he got recognized worldwide. Today he is an entrepreneur as well as a motivational speaker.
He is called upon to deliver motivational speeches in colleges, institutes, and schools, along with “IIM Ahmedabad” from where he wished to pursue his MBA.
Failure paved way for success
The story of Prafull Billore begins from a small village in Madhya Pradesh where he used to live. His father desired for him to get a good job by passing the CAT exam and pursue an MBA from a well-reputed college.
Like an ordinary middle-class teenager, he adopted his father’s dream as his own and reached Indore to fulfill it. He was too, attracted to the hefty package offered after the completion of the MBA course.
He started living in a PG in Indore and also did a 6-month English speaking course. Along with this, he started preparing for the CAT which is considered to be one of the toughest exams in India. For this, he forgot everything and studied all day having numerous cups of tea. He considered tea as his companion.
But unfortunately, even after three attempts, he did not succeed in the CAT exam. He was not able to score the percentile required to get into an MBA college of his choice. It was not admissible for him to do an MBA from any other college.
He was completely disappointed and was not able to find a way ahead. He felt like his world has ended.
Prafull Billore – First job in McDonald’s
He left behind his dream of pursuing an MBA and set out to explore India. He went to cities like Bhopal, Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and finally reached Ahmedabad, where he felt being at home. He found the place quite interesting and thought of doing something in Ahmedabad only.
On the other hand, his father was pressuring him to complete his MBA. But after visiting the city he found the people very friendly and nice and wanted to stay there.
Prafull could not figure out what to do and was confused. So, he grabbed a job at McDonald’s restaurant for ₹ 32 per hour. After some time, he also got promoted but was not satisfied with the job. He always wanted to open his own startup.
He got to learn a lot working at McDonald’s. He met new people every day and learned many business tricks along with humility, courtesy, and etiquette.
ALSO READ  Modern rickshaw with a convertible roof, locker, mobile charger, and security app
After working there for 3 months, he thought of starting his own restaurant but the required investment would cause a big risk, and he did not want to do so.
Dream big and start small
Prafull Billore thought to start small, as he believed in “Dream big, start small and act now“. Prafull lied to his father and asked for ₹ 8000 for a course instead of a tea stall.
His father agreed and sent the amount, as he wanted his son to study well. He did not want to lie to his father, but he did not want to hurt him either, by informing him about the setup of the tea stall on the roadside, so unwillingly he had to lie.
Then he bought the required material for making tea but was still confused about what people would say about him. He thought he would be criticized for selling tea after going to pursue an MBA. He kept thinking for the next 45 days.
Ultimately, he dared to open his tea stall on 25 July 2017 from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm on the roadside. In the morning, he continued to work at McDonald’s from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, and then sold tea in the evening.
English Speaking ChaiWala
On the first day, he could not sell even a single cup of tea, so he decided to approach people directly. He went to the people sitting in the cars parked nearby and told the specialty of his tea in English, and asked them to try it once.
He would also ask for suggestions from people. He was selling tea with a completely different approach. He served tea in a clay cup, with tissue paper and toast at ₹ 30 for the combo.
Gradually, people showed a keen interest in the English speaking chai wala and his style of vending. His sales started growing as there was no extra cost.
He had read somewhere that “बेस्ट लोहार है टाटा और बेस्ट मोची है बाटा”. His philosophy was to do something unique, that no one has ever done. That is why he wanted to do the best in his tea business too.
English-speaking chai wala became a point of discussion in social media. People started looking for him. His growing sales and popularity were begrudged by the tea sellers nearby. He was forcibly removed from there.
Now again he faced the same problem, what to do? He had already left McDonald’s. But he did not give up. His old customers started looking for him and that motivated him to start again.
Now he set up his tea stall outside a hospital, but this time he paid the hospital for installing his stall, so the same problem does not occur again. Slowly, his fan following grew and he was famous all over social media.
MBA ChaiWala
Now, he started working with a different strategy. He dedicated a corner in his stall where he had put up a job board. The tea drinkers, who were unemployed, were asked to leave their names, telephone numbers, and qualifications on that board and the employers who needed employees would contact them.

In this way, unemployed people would get jobs and this was also a good way of marketing for his tea shop. Now there was a need to give a name to his shop, for which Prafull wanted a different and unique one.
Many names were suggested, but in the end, he liked the name “MBA Chaiwala“, which meant Mr. Billore Ahemadabad. Many people used to make fun out of him, but he did not care for them and would continue to work. Now his tea stall had become famous all over.
Some of his achievements include:
He was called into local events, rallies, entrepreneur programs, high tea parties, and crowd campaigns all across. He became the people’s perfect choice.
He organized a “Kaam wali chai” campaign for the Delhi government.
After the floods in Kerala, he went there and launched the campaign “Let’s chai for Kerala” and donated the proceeds from selling tea to the flood victims.
Last year, on the occasion of Valentine’s Day, he also offered “Free Chai for Singles“. People used to present offers for couples on this day, but they presented this offer to singles.
He also formed an NGO for women empowerment, blood donations, and other social causes. He used to donate his earnings from the tea social event to the victimized and needy people. In this way, within 2 years, Prafull Billore organized more than two hundred social events.
Gradually, he launched his own restaurants and started giving franchises. At this age, people of his age find jobs for themselves, but on the other hand, he has provided employment to 30-35 people.
Recently, he has been interviewed and covered by large media giants. Prafull Billore’s story was covered by BBC, ZEE, AAJ TAK, INDIA TV, CNN etc.
In his motivational speech, he says,” No work is small. Every great work starts from a small step, so do not panic while doing any work. Do not think or bother what people would say”.
In this way, Prafull Billore became the 2nd most famous Chaiwala of India, providing employment to many people.

Dear Sir,
Sub : Delhi Slum when will be removed
For 35 years I have been writing and constant one reply under Special Provision Act. 2011  the slum cannot be demolished.
Earlier Congress and now BJP both are following same base and passing an act so that slum cannot be removed.
You are giving statement on New Papers and News Channels that old laws has to be changed but when this corrupt law will change by BJP as per your commitment every day in News Channels that too by Prandhmantri Respected Modi Ji.
                                                                                                                                               Cont…Page-2
                                                                                                                                               Page-2
In the Kisan Rally people have started using wrong word for BJP it is not appreciable. Better honor your word regarding slum and repel the corrupt law of slum approved by Your Minister Mr. Hardip Puri and recommended by your MP Mr. Bidhuri.
Scrap this corrupt law of Special provision act of 2011 valid for 35 year in some form or the other.
People will appreciate BJP work if slums are removed and resettled in the ready to move build houses. Even otherwise our prime Minister words are there will be no slums in 2022.
How this can be achieved is the work of relocation of slum is yet not started.
Yes there are certain slum which are being demolish not in a plan way but where corruption money available the slum is being removed.
It is very shameful that there was a hard order of Supreme Court that slum on railway track will be removed but the corrupt people even managed Supreme Court Orders and railway track jhuggie cluster got stay order.
Which kind of Country is India and which kind of people in India are ruling?
If this kind of Government of India will do management then our Country will remain 50 years backward always and regarding slum our Country will remain a shit Country.
I have suggested time and again to make a Redevelopment Ministry and bring a man like Mr. Gadkari  who has been successful in road building and new Ministry of Re-development should work better then Gadkari so that our country can grow and tourism attraction can grow.
Please inform as to when you will work for redevelopment of the Country starting from New Delhi.
It is only a corrupt practice which congress followed many years and now BJP.
How this corrupt practice will be removed and who will removed it??????.
If slum is removed the vote bank is removed of Kejriwal. This thing has not been explained by BJP MP while passing the Special Provision Act. 201i.
Furthermore if slum exists continuously the rental income from slum is enough for the politicians for day to day work and that is why this corrupt cycle of continues slum will never break.
For last three years around 15000 Low income Group houses are lying vacant, ready in Govind Puri. 8000 Houses are lying ready in Tekhand village.
Investment is made buildings are ready and Government is losing interest for 3 years but nobody that is MP’s MLA’s bureaucrats are worried about this investment recovery by re-locating the slum.
I suggest Hon’ble Prime Minister to open the distribution, this will add to BJP name and fame
How big crime racket is prevailing openly and I am surprise by so much effort and writing worst to worst letter to all concern has not given any fruit except every fortnightly  a letter copy is received of  same type continuously for 35 years. Copy of same is enclosed.
                                                                                                                                               Cont….Page-3
                                                                                                                                               Page-3
Sir, You are making a Parliament House in Lutein Zone why?????------------ because you cannot work in a bad atmosphere. Had you make Parliament House in Sangam Vihar ???????----- No MP will come nor you will like to come then why we Tax payer heavily are force to work in Okhla Phase-I&II and other Delhi Areas with bad environment of Jhuggie Cluster cum criminals.
Sir, tell me why department is paying salary to your criminal staff

Why India’s ‘Godi Media’ Spreads Hatred and Fake News
How the leading players in the Indian media, loyal to the governing BJP-RSS combine, have been openly peddling fake news, hate and bigotry targeting religious minorities, especially India’s marginalised and dispossessed Muslims and why they have been getting away with murder all these years
— April 24, 2020 | S K Husain | Clarion India
Tumblr media
GODI (Lapdog), Bikau (Venal), Dalal (Agent) and Bharkau (Inflammatory). These are some of the labels with which a major section of India’s mainstream electronic media is identified by a majority of Indians, especially Muslims and low-caste Hindus, as well as the remaining section of the national media.
This chunk of the media, which consists of nearly a dozen 24-hour national and regional TV news channels, is infamous for biased reporting and fanning communal hatred in society. Their journalists and anchors routinely engage in spreading fake news and causing hatred towards the country’s 200 million Muslim community and Islam. They, in fact, nourish Islamophobia. As someone rightly remarked, “the Indian media is not doing journalism but waging a jihad (holy war) against Muslims. It acts like hyenas”.
On one hand, these channels demonstrate a clear bias against the country’s low-caste Hindus, the poor, and less privileged and weaker sections of society. On the other, they promote the agenda of the Hindutva forces including the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), its ruling political wing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its National Democratic Alliance (NDA) partners in the government, as well as their leaders. They also favour the rich and powerful and promote their interests.
Prominent among these Pro-BJP/RSS news outlets are English television channels Republic TV, Times Now, India Today and CNN-News18, and Hindi TV channels Zee News, ABP News, Aaj Tak, India TV, Sudershan News, News Nation and News24 (India). All the above-mentioned titles fit these channels for one reason or the other.
The term “Godi media” was coined for these channels by Ramon Magsaysay award winner journalist Ravish Kumar of NDTV. He inherently spoke of the lap of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government and its lapdogs.
Besides these channels, there are many more news and at least 18 Hindu religious channels in regional languages across India that promote the agenda of the Hindutva forces to establish a Hindu Rashtra (nation) and impose Hindi as the national language all over the plural, multi-religious, multi-cultural and multi-lingual country of 1.37 billion people.
Among the key reasons why these channels and their anchors so aggressively support the BJP, RSS and Modi, as well as the rich and powerful, are:
1) Absolute majority of the BJP-led NDA in Parliament and its government at the centre and in many states, and growing irrelevance and inconsequentiality of a largely obliterated opposition;
2) Hindu viewership by the BJP’s 100-million-plus primary members and their massive support for the party and government, and the cult-like following of a “monolithic” Modi;
3) A high TRP achieved because of the majority Hindu viewership. (TRP, or target rating point, is a metric used in marketing and advertising to indicate the percentage of the target audience reached by a campaign or advertisement through a communication medium);
4) Funding by big business houses, which might be chummy with a particular party which supports their growth and in return they support that party;
5) Ownership or stakes of certain BJP and RSS leaders, MPs and supporters in some of these TV channels;
6) Owners’ political connections or affiliations with the BJP and RSS;
7) A huge revenue earned from government advertisements which these channels receive in return for their pro-BJP/RSS/government policies;
8) Commercial interests of these channels as business entities rather than as social service non-governmental organisations;
9) Government advisories/directives and restrictions on news presentation;
10) Fear of being targeted by the government for failure to toe the line.
Let’s take a close look at what these Hindutva TV channels are, who owns or runs them and what are their policies.
Tumblr media
HIS MASTER’S VOICE…Republic TV’s Arnab Goswami interviews Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Credit: narendramodi.in
English Networks
Republic TV — This news channel was co-founded and is majority-owned by a 47-year-old Assamese, Arnab Ranjan Goswami. He is also the channel’s editor and news anchor. Earlier, he was the editor-in-chief and a news anchor of Times Now and ET Now.
The channel is infamous for its brazen support for the BJP and RSS. Arnab is noted for his opinionated reporting in favour of the BJP and RSS and their Hindutva push across a wide spectrum of situations, including uncritically reproducing government narratives, avoiding criticism of BJP/RSS figures, and presenting their political opponents in a negative light. He very clearly, cleverly and shamelessly shows his bias. No one can beat him in spreading hatred and fake news.
Arnab is the son of Manoranjan Goswami, an army man who later joined the BJP, and a maternal nephew of Siddhartha Bhattacharya, who is a BJP MLA and minister in Assam’s state government.
Launched in 2017, Republic TV was partly funded by, among others, Asianet News (ARG Outlier Asianet News Private Limited), which was primarily funded by Rajeev Chandrasekhar, then an independent member of Rajya Sabha with intricate links with the BJP and vice-chairman of the NDA in Kerala.
Son of an air force officer, Chandrasekhar, however, resigned from the Asianet board after he officially joined the BJP in April 2018 and was elected as a BJP MP.
Republic TV has been accused of propagating fake news and running several news items based on the defamatory tweets posted by certain BJP leaders. It has also been convicted of breaching telecommunication regulatory and news broadcasting rules, leading to censures and subject to a high-profile defamation case by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor.
The channel is described by experts as a “noisy, chaotic place where coherent debate without shouting, screaming and name-calling is impossible”. Its shows have been dubbed a “battle of babble”, judgmental, brash and hawkish.
It has even been compared to North Korean media for its extreme pro-government affinity and muzzling of dissent, and America’s Fox News which practises biased reporting in favour of the Republican Party.
Prominent among these pro-BJP/RSS news outlets are English television channels Republic TV, Times Now, India Today and CNN-News18, and Hindi TV channels Zee News, ABP News, Aaj Tak, India TV, Sudershan News, News Nation and News24 (India). The term “godi media” was coined for these channels by journalist Ravish Kumar of NDTV. He inherently spoke of the lap of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government and its lapdogs
Times Now – Owned and operated by The Times Group (Bennett, Coleman and Company Limited), this channel always wants to go with the winning horse. Previously generally neutral, it has turned pro-BJP since the election of the Modi government. Anchor and managing editor Navika Kumar froths and fumes each time someone is critical of the BJP, but loses her interrogating prowess whenever given the rare chance to interview Modi or Home Minister Amit Shah.
With Arnab, the channel was ultra-BJP and ultra-nationalist; after he left it, it has become a lot more ultra-nationalist and outright BJP supporter. One wonders if this change of stance is because its chairperson, Indu Jain, was awarded Padma Bhushan by the Modi government in 2016.
India Today — Owned by Living India Media Group (India Today Group), the channel was launched in 2003 as a sister channel of the Hindi news channel AajTak. It is one of the four news channels from the TV Today Network stable, the other two being Tez and Delhi AajTak. Aroon Purie is the group’s chairman.
Top journalists associated with India Today TV channel are Rajdeep Sardesai and Rahul Kanwal. While Rajdeep is anti-BJP, Rahul has tried to lean a lot to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Although India Today is a “fence-sitting” channel, in the last one or two years it has clearly tilted towards the BJP.
Rahul and his India Today team had severely lobbied against the BJP and its students wing Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP ) over the Shaheen Bagh and Jamia Millia Islamia shooting incidents. He was also quick to point fingers at BJP leader Anurag Thakur and claim that Delhi was sitting on a powder keg.

CNN News 18 is owned by billionaire Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries, considered close to PM Modi. The channel was originally owned by Network18 Group, which was taken over by Reliance Industries in 2014. The group owns as many as 65 channels
In an apparent punishment for his “biased” reporting in favour of AAP, Rahul was sent on a “sabbatical”. Since his return, he seems to have dropped his determination to follow in the footsteps of Rajdeep and joined the bandwagon of the godi media anchors.
CNN-News18 — This channel is owned by billionaire Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries, hence no words are required to explain its bias against Muslims and the less privileged Hindus. This channel was originally owned by Network18 Group, which was founded by businessman and investor Raghav Bahl in 2011 but was taken over by Reliance Industries in 2014.
The group owns as many as 65 channels: one national English news channel, one national Hindi news channel and 14 regional language news channels; three national and one regional business news channels, three Hindi entertainment channels, two Hindi movie channels, two youth channels, four English and Hindi music channels, four kids English and Hindi entertainment channels, four factual entertainment channels, two shopping channels, 14 regional entertainment channels, and 10 upcoming regional news and other channels.
Hindi Channels
Among the most biased and anti-Muslim and po-BJP/RSS Hindi TV news channels and their anchors are:
Zee News — This is one of the several Hindi, English and vernacular news channels owned by the Essel Group. The channel’s owner, Subhash Chandra, became a Rajya Sabha member with the BJP’s support. Hence, he definitely needs to give something back to the party by promoting its Hindutva agenda and launching an anti-Muslim tirade.
Sudhir Chaudhary is the channel’s editor-in-chief and the anchor of its prime time. He is the Hindi version of Republic TV’s Arnab as he openly supports the BJP, RSS and Modi. A few years ago, Sudhir was arrested for allegedly trying to extort one billion Indian rupees (approximately US$23 million) from the Jindal Group. Since then, some people call him Sudhir “Tihari” because he was lodged in Delhi’s maximum-security Tihar Jail in the extortion case.
Zee News has been involved in broadcasting fabricated news stories on multiple occasions. Most recently, it aired an unverified and false report on the coronavirus and linked it to Tablighi Jamaat, and later expressed regrets for running the false report.
India TV – This channel was launched by Rajat Sharma and his wife Ritu Dhawan in 2004 from a studio in FilmCity in Noida, near Delhi. Sharma is the chairman and editor-in-chief of India TV, a subsidiary of Independent News Service which was co-founded by the couple in 1997. During his college days, Sharma was a member of ABVP. He and the late finance minister Arun Jaitley were very close friends.
India TV is biased, too. It conceals plenty of news that would make headlines. It doesn’t show fake news but is selective in its presentation of news according to its political impact. When Sharma was asked a question about his channel’s integrity in the United States in view of his friendship with Jaitley, he got infuriated. An otherwise calm person, he was all irritated and critical of the person who asked it.
According to tech analyst Amol Raj Pandey, when Sharma “was ousted from his FilmCity office by Century Comm, his new office was completely funded by the BJP. India TV kept on working as BJP propaganda unit after that.” He further says the most important point to show this is — he was awarded Padma Bhushan for literature, although he never wrote a single literary piece. However, he wrote fiction for the BJP during its election campaign.
In 2015, Sharma was awarded Padma Bhushan by the BJP government for his contribution in the field of journalism. Last month, he was conferred with an honorary doctorate in of literature by the Nainital-based Kumaun University. All this explains his unstinted support for the BJP and RSS.
AajTak — Owned by Arun Purie’s India Today Group, AajTak has some of the most poisonous anchors — Anjana Om Kashyap, Rohit Sardana and Sweta Singh — known for their vitriolic attacks against Muslims and spreading communal hatred. The trio routinely indulge in Muslim-bashing, while showcasing a deferential surrender to anything the BJP does.
A former Zee News and News24 journalist, Anjana has been engaged in aggressively propagating Hindutva-centred ideologies and biased reporting in favour of the BJP across a variety of situations. She has spread fake news via her news shows on multiple occasions. A favourite of Modi, she was one of the few reporters who were allowed an interview by Modi in the run-up to the 2019 general election. Rohit Sardana tops the list of the worst journalists sponsored by the right wing.
ABP News — Owned by Bengali journalist Aveek Sarkar of the pro-BJP ABP Group, this channel is the reincarnation of Star News. Earlier, ABP News used to be neutral, but it turned pro-BJP a couple of years ago. This came after the Modi government objected to criticism of the BJP by some ABP News journalists including Punya Prasoon Vajpyee and Abhisar Sharma in their Master Stroke show. After the channel took action against these journalists, Rubika Liyaquat became the commander-in-chief of its news anchors. A former Zee New anchor, Rubika joined ABP News in 2018. A Muslim, she is disliked by many for her angry rhetoric against Muslim leaders called by the channel for debates on TV.
Sudarshan News — This channel disseminates anti-Muslim content and manufactures fake news with communal overtones, earning it tiltles such as “bigot” and “dangerous”.
Its chairman, Suresh Chavhanke, was a long-term RSS volunteer and associated with ABVP. He asserts practicing ideology-driven journalism and prefers that the news programmes over his channel be viewed as opinionated campaigns.
In April 2017, he was arrested for inciting communal hatred through multiple episodes of a flagship programme. Recently, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren ordered state police to take action against Chavhanke for his communal hate speeches.
News Nation — Owned by News Nation Network Pvt Ltd, this channel’s consulting editor Deepak Chaurasia has an inclination towards the BJP and is known as a puppet of Modi. Portuguese politician and political scientist Bruno Macaes compared Chaurasia’s journalism to Fox News, which has often been criticised for being extremely vocal in its support of the Republicans and President Donald Trump.
India 24 (India) — Owned by B.A.G. Films and Media Limited, this channel is promoted by Anuradha Prasad, sister of BJP minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, along with her husband, Congress politician Rajeev Shukla. Its anchor Amish Devgan has modelled himself on Republic TV’s Arnab and routinely indulges in Muslim-bashing.
All the above channels are Pro-BJP because they need government advertisments for revenue to operate. And most of their anchors and journalists are enamoured by Modi’s “superman image ” created by his online fans. As they aren’t bold enough to go against this fan club fearing trolling and reprisals, they find it easy to ride with the wind.
In this media environment, can Muslims expect to be heard and their case to be pleaded by these biased media houses? They have to either put up with this or mull over focusing on creating their own media giants. There’s no dearth of financial and other resources, technical expertise and journalistic talent in the community. All that is needed are sincerity, will and resolve to start own TV news channels.

Tumblr media
In a major step to make Alexa more 'Indian', Amazon announced that Alexa will now support interactions in Hindi or Hinglish. This launch will enable hundreds of thousands of Alexa customers in India to interact with Alexa to ask for music, get Bollywood or sports updates and much more in Hindi or Hinglish. Alexa is the brain that powers Amazon Echo devices. The new Hindi experience is available on all Echo family of voice-controlled smart speakers. Since Alexa runs in the cloud, the service is always getting smarter. When Alexa launched in India in 2017, she was able to understand and pronounce names of popular places, names, songs and more in many regional languages such as Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi and Punjabi. With this update, Alexa can now understand customers speaking to her completely in Hindi or Hinglish, in multiple contexts, and varied regional accents and dialects. You can enjoy asking Alexa for diverse Hindi content such as jokes, shayaris, games, Kabir ke dohe, Panchatantra stories, Bollywood dialogues, more than 500 Alexa skills, and even spellings of words in Hindi.
Tumblr media
Rohit Prasad, Vice President, and Head Scientist, Alexa AI, Amazon, said, "India has uniquely challenged our AI teams with its cultural and linguistic diversity. We are thrilled to bring a suite of AI advances in multilingual understanding so that customers can interact with Alexa in different regional variants of colloquial Hindi. We are also grateful to Indian customers who contributed to Hindi development through the Cleo skill. We look forward to Alexa delighting our Hindi-speaking customers and working with developers in India to invent many more Hindi skills." To get started with Hindi, customers can just ask, "Alexa, help me set up Hindi." Existing Echo customers in India can change their device language to Hindi via the Language options inside the Device settings on the Alexa App. Echo Show users can access the settings section to change the language by swiping down from the top of the screen. Puneesh Kumar, Country Manager for Alexa Experiences and Devices, Amazon India, said, "We are a customer-first company than a technology-first company. In India pronunciation, diction, and accents in Hindi is different across the country even if the language being spoken is the same. Conversations in Hinglish are common. With today's launch, you will notice that Alexa has become more local. Alexa will not only understand and respond in Hindi or Hinglish but, is also armed with a lot of knowledge about topics that interest users in the country ranging from local information to music, and from Bollywood to cricket." Coming soon, customers can speak to Alexa in Hindi and English without changing the language setting back and forth. For example, if a customer asks for the weather in Hindi, Alexa will reply in Hindi, e.x. "Alexa, aaj mausam kaisa hai?"  and when they ask for information in English, Alexa will understand and respond in English e.x. "Alexa, tell me about Chandrayaan-2". This feature is specially built for Indian households where users speak both Hindi and English. Interact with Alexa in Hindi or Hinglish With Alexa, you can use your voice to play music, ask questions, read the news, set timers and alarms, check the calendar, provide sports scores, control lights at home, watch videos on Echo devices with a screen and much more. With Echo's far-field voice control, you can do all this from across the room using just your voice. Play Music Alexa offers a seamless, hands-free music  experience with premier music services including Amazon Prime Music, Gaana, Hungama, JioSaavn, TuneIn, and more. Listening to music across a wide catalog of Hindi, English and multiple Indian regional language songs with Alexa is as simple as saying "Alexa, Bollywood ke latest gaane sunao" or "Alexa, Kishore Kumar ke gaane sunaiye". If you are in the mood to exercise, say "Alexa, workout music chalao" . Control volume and playback for millions of songs by saying "Alexa, volume badhao"  or "Alexa, agla gaana lagao". If you aren't sure who an artist is, just say "Alexa, yeh kaunsa gaana hai?". Alexa will also offer over 100 relaxation sounds in Hindi. To get started, say "Alexa, mujhe aaraam karna hai". Ask Questions Ask Alexa all kinds of questions, including those about cricket, Bollywood, famous people and places, festivals, calculations, sports, stocks, spelling and much more in Hindi. For example, "Alexa, Diwali kab hai",  "Alexa, 64 ka cube root kya hai", "Alexa, Spain ka capital kya hai?" and "Alexa, sone ka bhaav batao". Alexa is now more Indian. Her fun personality can entertain everyone in the family. You can ask Alexa for a joke by saying "Alexa, chutkula sunao". You can also say "Alexa, koi filmy dialogue sunao", "Alexa seeti bajao", "Alexa taali bajao",  "Alexa, ek kahani sunao", or "Alexa, tum kaun ho". For more enterainment, ask Alexa to play fun games by saying, "Alexa, chalo ek game khele".
