I think it's important to remember that, at the end of the day, it's fiction. Most everyone can distinguish reality from fiction (and if you can't, you probably shouldn't be engaging in fandoms to begin with). Luckily tags exist to filter out content we'd rather avoid.

I try not to hate on ships bc I don't want to make people feel bad for enjoying stuff...even if it's something that makes me personally uncomfortable. People have complex reasons for liking things. (People who write from experiences of abusive relationships for example).

That being said, because someone has the freedom to make a particularly bad work, you also have the same freedom to criticize it. So if someone is trying to normalize abuse for whatever reason, call them out for doing that instead of writing it off as a product of what they're shipping.

yeah i just filter out parts of the fandom that i don't want to take part in,,, i don't want anyone upset that i don't personally enjoy it if it is something they hold close to their hearts for their own reasons so i just don't engage with it at all,,

i don't really agree with the ‘fiction doesn't affect reality’ argument but yeah i see what ya mean. 

i kinda have my own little pocket of content i consume that caters to my personal tastes and i try not to really think too much about the other stuff (unless it seeps into my enjoyment of the fandom) in the end i guess the fandom experience is about finding stuff you like and feeling safe,, that's not to say that if the media you view has been considered distributive by others you shouldn't listen to the reasons people find it uncomfy. like with fiddauthor i check out past discourse in the fandom and try to see why people may disagree and if i find it compelling i try take onboard that aspect of the ship and keep it separate like headcanons - i personally don't headcanon them as together during the preportal era because then fidds would have been cheating on his wife (unless you hc he got divorced before helping ford) so its mainly just pining (hehe) on fords half and a bunch of old man fluff post weirdmaggedon. but if anything came up about the foundation of their relationship being iffy i would move on to other parts of the fandom (b*llford, for example, isn't a stable relationship to begin with because its built on bills manipulation of fords insecurities-  for example, his need to prove himself to others is used by bill to get him to build the portal as proof he is worth something,,, which is wrong in so many ways hhhhh like ford already has worth to others: stan and fidds for instance)  so ship what you want but understand why you ship it, try not to be mean and also use tags and filters :)) idk aha that's how i view fandom stuff anyway fbshkbfvukewnfeukwfueh
