SNS Spine: A Student Sports Hub at SNS Colleges

As there was sharp increase in the demand of engineering seats in Coimbatore, the SNS Charitable Trust decided to setup the SNS Engineering College in 2007 which is affiliated to Anna University. SNS College of Technology and SNS College of Engineering share a twin campus which is built on 23 acres of land. Dr. S N Subramanian MTech., Ph.D., MBA., M.Phil., Ph.D., is the honorary Chairman of SNS Group of Institutions. Dr. S Rajalakshmi, B.Sc., M.B.B.S., D.G.O. is the Managing trustee and correspondent of the colleges and SNS College MD, Dr. S Nalin Vimal Kumar, is highly qualified with degrees in B.E, M.S, and Ph.D.

Both the SNS Colleges share the student activity center which provides a range of facilities such as a swimming pool, music theatre and separate well equipped gyms for boys and girls. An Entertainment Complex has been setup where students can play bowling and billiards. The institutions also share a playground where students can play a variety of games. However, each department in both the institutions has access to their own research labs which helps the faculty members and students advance their interests in the field. The cloud lab, mobile apps lab, power systems labs are a few examples of the labs.

SNS College of Technology and SNS College of Engineering have separate libraries. As the SNS College of Technology is Autonomous, the institute has acquired about 40,000 volumes of books as they keep updating their curriculum. While the autonomous status has given a boost to SNS College of Technology, the management has ensured that the SNS College of Engineering has sufficient books in the library which is about 12,000 at this moment. While the volumes of books vary the management has ensured that both the institutions have memberships to IEEE, DELNET INFOTRAC and access to the EBSCO database. In order to increase the quality of engineers graduating from the SNS Colleges and cover the gap between the institutions and industries, the management of both the institutions has started an Industry Institute Partnership Cell. The cells comprise of members who are academicians and have excellent relations with industry experts and invite them to give guest lectures and conduct workshops and seminars whenever they are free.

SNS College of Engineering: A Path to Successful Placements

SNS College of Technology was established in 2007 by the SNS Charitable Trust. The college is affiliated to Anna University. Dr. S N Subramanian is the Chairman of SNS Group of Institutions. Dr. S Rajalakshmi is the Managing trustee and correspondent and SNS College MD, Dr. S Nalin Vimal Kumar, is highly qualified with degrees in B.E, M.S, and Ph.D. SNS College of Technology and SNS College of Engineering share a twin campus which is built on 23 acres of land. SNS College of Technology offers excellent placement opportunities in industry leading companies.

More than 20 companies visited SNS College of Technology campus for placement in the last academic year. Over 60 recruiters have hired students from both SNS College of Technology and SNS College of Engineering. The companies that visited the campus for placement are TCS, Cognizant, Tech Mahindra, L&T Infotech, IBM, HP, Infosys, HCL, Essel Lumax, Stark Technosis, Spin draft group of companies, Wire Delta and V Technologies. Average salary package offered for the students were 2.3 lakhs, and the highest package was 4.8 lakhs and beyond.

While ensuring to bring out the best quality of engineers, the SNS College of Technology and SNS College of Engineering also make certain that the students receive a holistic development. As the management understands that students have a variety of talents such as sports, arts, music, dance and others, they have built various facilities such as a dance studio, music studio and gym facilities. All these facilities are provided to the students by the management through a student run club called ACT ON DREAM club.

The club is run by students and is divided into five groups for various purposes such as Academics, Placements, Extra Curricular and Co-curricular and youth empowerment based on youth parliament concepts. The youth parliament consists of elected members who bridge the gap between the students, the management and staff. For this very purpose, the management has kept all Saturdays as open Saturdays. There are about 40 clubs which are part of the ACT ON DREAM club and they help the students of SNS College of Technology in their holistic development.

18th Annual Convocation of KIIT

Knowledge is the new engine of economic growth and social development: Chief Minister of Odisha

"Currently, we are living in a geo-economic world and knowledge is recognised as a key resource for achieving economic growth and social development", Shri Naveen Patnaik, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Odisha told the Batch of 2022 at the 18th Annual Convocation of KIIT Deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar on 1st October 2022. Wishing the graduates a bright future, he expressed confidence that they would make their mark in society with their ideas and innovations.

"In the last 25 years, KIIT has carved a niche for itself in the realm of technical and professional education in the country. It has achieved many milestones by getting prestigious national and international accreditations and it also stands out in community outreach programmes", the Chief Minister said. He also noted its significant contributions to the field of sports. This year the institution is celebrating its Silver Jubilee.

In her convocation address delivered virtually, Dr. Rigoberta Menchú Tum, Nobel Laureate urged the graduates to do something for those who are less privileged than them, even as they pursue their professional career. The Guest of Honour, Mr. John Desmond Forbes Anderson (Lord Waverley), Hon'ble Member of British Parliament, UK stated that India is an economic powerhouse and shares much in common with UK. He advocated expanding the areas of cooperation between the two countries, including the Free Trade Agreement.   

On the occasion, KIIT-DU conferred Honoris Causa D.Litt. Degrees upon six eminent persons from across the world: Mr. Himanshu Gulati, Hon'ble Member of Parliament, Norway; Mr. Bishow Parajuli, Representative & Country Director, WFP India; Mr. Andreas Jahn, Senior Foreign Policy Advisor, Germany; Dr. Deepa Malik, Padma Shri, Khel Ratna & Arjuna Awardee, and President, Paralympic Committee of India; Mr. K. Subramanian, Executive Vice Chairman, AFCONS Infrastructure; and Mr. Prabodh Mohanty, Managing Director, S.N. Mohanty Group.    

As many as 8123 students received degrees at the convocation ceremony. These include 6330 Bachelors, 1627 Masters, 163 Ph.D., and 3 MPhil degrees. Prof. Achyuta Samanta congratulated the batch of 2022 for their outstanding performance despite the challenges posed by the pandemic. "The University stood all along with the students in these difficult times, supporting them all the way in their quest for academic excellence", mentioned Prof. Samanta in his message

In his presidential address, Shri Ashok Kumar Parija, Chancellor, KIIT-DU said, "KIIT-DU is contributing to the development of India by empowering its students, creating alumni that are building the nation, and supporting the growth trajectory of millions of indigenous students. But what stands tall, is its mentoring and supporting gesture, quite unmatched in the annals of philanthropy in India".

Prof. (Dr.) S. K. Acharya, Pro-Chancellor and Prof. Sasmita Samanta, Vice Chancellor also addressed the students. Medals were awarded to 71 students for their outstanding academic performances. Three students were awarded Founder's Gold Medals for their outstanding all round and academic performances, while 34 students were awarded Chancellor's Gold Medals, and 30 students got Vice Chancellor's Silver Medals. Nanibala Memorial Gold Medal, Shri Krushna Chandra Panda Memorial Gold Medal, P. K. Bal Memorial Gold Medal and PPL Gold Medal were also given away on the occasion. Prof. J. R. Mohanty, Registrar proposed the word of thanks.
