5 Reasons Why Choosing To Insulate Your Home Promotes Energy Savings From The Inside Out
Tumblr media
Installing insulation can benefit your home all year round! But, how do I insulate my home?  If you are building a new home in Australia, the Building Code of Australia (BCA) sets out a list of guidelines surrounding insulation requirements for your home. There are different insulation requirements depending on the climate zone you live in, so ensure you are well-informed beforehand. There are professional insulation installers who can install your home insulation for you. If it’s a DIY insulation install, make sure you are aware of your personal safety and any protective gear that is recommended for use while installing insulation. Below are 5 top reasons for why insulating your home can secure energy savings.
Increased energy savings
Tumblr media
Insulation is the most cost-effective way to improve you’re the energy efficiency of your home. Insulation can pay itself off in around five to six years. But, how can I increase the insulation in my home? Installing insulation in your ceilings, walls and floors means that your home is covered. If you live in an existing home start by checking ceiling and underfloor insulation as these areas are more accessible. If insulation is absent in these areas, consider the retrofitting insulation.
Reduce energy bills
Tumblr media
Insulating your home will keep it cooler in summer and warmer in winter. As insulation acts as a barrier from fluctuating external temperatures, the inside of your home can maintain a more stable temperature. This will reduce your reliance on using heating and cooling appliances which in turn will reduce your energy usage and bills. An insulated home compared to a non-insulated home can reduce the cost of heating and cooling a home by around 40 to 50%.
Comfort
Tumblr media
Stay comfortable all year round with stable internal temperatures. Insulating your home is part of the weather-proofing process which reduces temperature fluctuations within your home. Create indoor temperature zones, which means that you only need to heat a desired area within your home. Furthermore, soundproofing insulation can reduce noise transfer within your home and from external sources. Creating a quieter more relaxing home to live in.
Sound proofing
Tumblr media
Installing acoustic insulation in your home can assist in reducing noise disturbances from within or outside your home. Reduce noise transfer between rooms within your home and external disturbances such as aircraft, traffic and dogs barking. A common question for sound proofing your home is “How to insulation my home with acoustic insulation?”. Firstly, choose an acoustic insulation which is denser that regular thermal insulation. For internal walls we recommend a minimum of R2.0HD (HD stands for high density), and external walls we recommend a minimum of R2.5HD. The benefits of installing acoustic insulation are enormous when it comes to creating a quiet haven to rest in at the end of a busy day.
Environmental benefits
Tumblr media
Reduced environmental impact, with an insulated home you will be using less energy which will reduce your carbon footprint. With reduced dependence on electrical appliances such as heating and cooling units the amount of chemicals being released into the environment is reduced. It is important to remember that every positive contribution to our environment no matter how small it may seem, is a step closer to making a greater positive impact on our environment.

Earthwool Underfloor Insulation – Why has Acoustic Batt Insulation Gained Popularity Recently?
To enhance the thermal efficiency of your home or business, you should insulate it. High-quality Earthwool underfloor insulation is the best option in this case! Properties that are improperly insulated have a poorer thermal efficiency, requiring more energy to heat and cool.
Tumblr media
Insulation – Why is it So Important for Building Structures?
Installing high-quality underfloor and acoustic batt insulation in your house may save you up to 20 percent on your energy bills! This implies that floor insulation might save you considerably on your energy expenses. Insulating your home is a long-term investment that will pay off in 3 to 5 years.
Insulation, simply described, is any substance that reduces the passage of thermal energy. Thermal energy will normally go from regions with high energy to places with low energy until the temperature is equalised.
Installing insulation within your house can assist reduce the passage of heat, allowing you to maintain more pleasant inside temperatures. Because there is less heat loss or gain, insulation helps your air conditioner and heater run more effectively. If you don't insulate the floor or insulate it insufficiently, you'll have to use more energy and money for mechanical heating and cooling.
Conclusion
Heaters and air conditioners may be costly to operate during the cold of winter and the heat of summer. To prevent cool air draughts or radiant heat from impacting the interior temperature and comfort, the floor must be effectively insulated. It creates a permanent thermal and moisture barrier around the property, increasing the floor's thermal resistance and lowering heating and cooling costs while conserving energy.
Although underfloor insulation does not directly heat the floor, it may help keep the house warm in the winter. By increasing the resistance of the materials that make up the floor, insulation minimises heat loss through it.
For the finest service, seek advice from pros.

Insulation Materials - Earthwool or Pink Batts?
So which merchandise is just right for you, as soon as you compare Earthwool and pink batts? Well, this may rely upon what is most important for you personally.
To begin with, let us check up on the similarities.
Each pink batts & Earthwool are equally"glass wool" insulating material, and therefore the batts have been in large part made from sand & glass bottles that are recycled. Pink batts & Earthwool insulation batts both are in the marketplace in a variety of"R-values" to coincide with completely different climates. Once producing the insulation contrast on Earthwool and pink batts, it is crucial to understand when the insulating material is placed in, the thermal benefit is indistinguishable practically. Hence an r2.0 wall insulation batt can supply you with equal thermal protection, no matter whether it is Earthwool, or branded pink batts, or another brand for that matter.
Pink parts come with a "lifetime warranty" & Earthwool includes a normal fifty-year warranty, that in training implies you will have the ability to anticipate the insulating material to stay so long as your residence.
Tumblr media
Insulation Comparison: Easy Storage and Handling
One of all of the home insulation types, Earthwool insulation has attained quality in the past several decades chiefly for two reasons. To start with, it utilizes a special binder which makes it less fretful to operate with. This may be a true advantage for DIY home renovators, not to mention skilled contractors that operate with insulating material on a normal basis. Second, Earthwool arrives in an exceptionally compacted packaging, which might considerably scale the requirement for onsite space for preserving, and conjointly ease to reduce down freight costs if you are paying the comprehensive value to cause the insulating material delivered to your home or on the website.
Placing the Insulation
When looking for the very best wall insulation, a usually overlooked difficulty after selecting a brand is how finely the insulating material but may 'stand' inside the wall cavity. The true truth is that even in an ideal world, the wall studs are spaced quite just they provide simply the the proper amount of friction to place the insulation batts in their location, although not sagging or folding- usually, the fact is somewhat entirely distinct. As any fully-fledged insulation can understand, a too slim gap is not a significant tangle to alter - you just cut the sting of this insulating material right down to the desired measurement. However, a place that might be a faction to broad is frequently a real "spanner inside the functions" - as stalks of this mandatory friction between the skin borders of the batt in addition to within borders of these walls studs, wall batts will just start to sag.
Tumblr media
This pink batt includes a definite advantage over its rival Earthwool, using its added severe consistency making it a lot easier to place in.
Odorless
If you're adequately older to keep in your mind that the insulating material being placed in over the'old times' you may think about the odour associated with each of roof insulation merchandise. The longer the insulating material rest there, the greater severe the odor, no doubt evidenced by any quantity of batts that have selected to require refuge inside the roof-space.
Earthwool may be a greater insulating material since it has essentially no odor, and therefore the reality is that this is the right statement. It smells like nothing, whereas much alternative glass wool merchandise seems to receive retained a minimal number of their odor, sometimes entirely noticeable in restricted areas. Undoubtedly we will see added and additional insulation brands placing their sights in an odorless' merchandise range in the approaching prospects.
Visit - insulation batts Melbourne suppliers and get your pink batts or earth wool at great rates. You can also get discounted rates if you buy them in bulk.

What is a Stud Wall?
Stud walls are internal walls supported by a wooden frame applied against a solid wall. They are easy to set up and can be used as a partition wall as well. Stud wall insulation is an effective way to insulate solid walls while keeping it low cost. These walls are essentially a stud (timber) frame with plasterboard nailed over the top and are one of the most common ways to divide the internal areas in British homes as it is a quick and easy way to set-up while hiding pipes and electric cables.
Tumblr media
Stud wall gained popularity by providing a cost-effective way to divide the available space and offer a separate room entirely. Stud walls can also be built DIY so if you are considering building a stud wall below is a video of how to build a stud wall.
Just before you close the stud wall with plasterboard you shouldn’t forget to fill in the insulation as it will help muffle the sound from inside or outside of the room and also retain the heat or coolness to keep the room temperature steady. It is relatively easy to insulate a stud wall.
Tumblr media
Most of the homes nowadays have the necessary insulation according to the building regulations still a lot of people are insulating their interior walls, as there are plenty of reasons why?
Energy efficient
In today’s world where the natural resources are gradually decreasing and the requirement of energy is continuously increasing, a wide range of programs are adopted to ensure efficient use of energy. Thermal insulation is one of the most used tools for energy saving.
The application of thermal insulation can be considered as an additional cost in terms of initial investment but however, you can expect a lower electricity bill every month which will save you a lot of money in the coming future.
Sound dampening
Insulation works the best when it comes to decreasing noise pollution. The most important purpose of stud wall insulation is to make a sound barrier to decrease the sound transfer and this can be very useful in apartments to decrease the sound from one room to another or from outside the house.
Eliminating unnecessary noise will help reduce stress levels as if a person can’t clearly hear what’s going on around them are less likely to get irritated due to the inability to understand what’s being said.
Insulating old walls
The insulation levels are less in older properties as the technology was not much developed. Stud wall insulation is a great way to reduce the energy bills and the level of noise coming from outside of the house. Another benefit of planning a stud wall insulation is that it can be done room by room so the cost of insulation can be divided over a period.
Difference between thermal and sound insulation
One of the main elements of building’s design is insulation which is designed for two main reasons for internal walls and intermediate floors are for acoustic reasons and for external walls and ground floors are for thermal reasons.
Whereas in some places when a stud wall is built to make a storage area or guest room where heat or conditioning is not required all year long, stud wall insulation will reduce the amount of heat transfer to such areas it is advised to use thermal insulation as it will reduce the cost of energy.
Find out more about the importance of sound insulation in buildings.
Stud wall insulation types
Rigid foam boards
One of the best insulation as compared to other available insulations is rigid foam boards (Celotex or Kingspan) as they are thin and occupy less space. They also have a vapour barrier, but in case of stud walls to complete the vapour barrier it is advised to tape or foam seal all the edges.
Cellulose, foam and fiberglass batts
Specifically, for thermal, acoustic and fire insulation Rockwool and Knauf have introduced these high standard semi-rigid, flexible resin boded slab and Earthwool Omnifit slab respectively.
Mineral wool installation is easy and is much quicker than rigid foam boards as you require accurate cutting and efficiency to install foam boards.
Natural Materials
Natural materials like sheep wool, wood fiber, and Flax and hemp are the green alternative to synthetic insulation. Natural materials have many advantages over synthetic or conventional material as they are fully biodegradable and renewable and can be recycled. They are allergy-free and non-toxic.
Sadly, all the natural materials available are 3-4 times expensive than conventional materials making it one of the main reasons why it is not used by builders and developers. Even Though the prices of natural material is high they are energy efficient and sustainable choice of customers for better indoor and outdoor environment.
Thin wall insulation
When you are planning to work and insulate an area inside the house where there is not much room to lose internal space that’s where you can you thin wall insulation. Thin internal wall insulation helps in a lot of as it is cheaper, easy to apply and takes less space.

A Guide to Loft Insulation
Tumblr media
A quarter of heat is lost through the roof in an uninsulated home. Insulating your loft, attic or flat roof is a simple and effective way to reduce heat loss and reduce your heating bills. Our loft areas are always empty or sometimes used for storage purposes, but birds only sit on the insulated roofs where they can find the heat from below. The most important things about lofts are that they can be quickly turned into a space for use. Therefore, insulation is the only way that one can make it happen. The insulated house has a very warm and cosy environment as there is no loss of heat and one can live in comfort. Sustaining heat is one of the most important functions of Loft insulation. It is a very easy process to install loft insulation roll, and one can do it cost-effective as well.
Tumblr media
Why do we need loft insulation?
Most homes without insulation face problems such as heat loss and condensation. Without proper loft insulation, a lot of the warmth produced by your heating system escapes through the roof of your property; in fact, as much as 25% of the heat in an uninsulated house is lost in this way. Loft insulation acts as a barrier, slowing the movement of heat out of the property during the winter and into the property during the summer. It is an excellent way to save money and energy as Loft insulation is comparatively cheaper than other sorts of internal wall insulation. One can have a lot to do from the various designs, shapes and sizes to fit in the walls. The kind of insulation that you require will depend on the wall and space your house has. Loft insulation is necessary for houses in colder areas.
Tumblr media
How to Install Loft Insulation Roll with Rockwool Thermal Insulation Roll?
youtube
Where should I fit the Insulation while insulating my Loft?
Insulating a Loft Between the Rafters
If insulation is placed exclusively between the rafters, they will have to be very deep to ensure you can fit the required depth of insulation (the very best phenolic foam insulation will have to be 125mm deep to meet Building Regulations requirements). With this installation method, there is a danger of minor condensation caused by cold bridges at the position of the rafters. This moisture could lead to discolouration of the internal decoration.
Fitting Insulation Over the Rafters
Fitting a continuous layer of insulation over the rafters will solve the issue of cold bridging, but is only an option on new builds or renovations where the roof tiles are being stripped and relaid. Even then, the depth of insulation now required to meet the Regulations means that very large fascia boards and wide soffits are required.
Insulating Beneath the Rafters
This loft insulation method also solves the issue of cold bridging but can restrict the headroom. This problem can usually be designed out in a new build but may cause an issue when an existing roof is to be converted.
What is the Difference between Cold Roof Insulation and Warm Roof Insulation?
You create a warm roof, or a cold roof, simply by applying the layers of Insulation to the roof in a different order.
Tumblr media
A cold loft is where you insulate immediately above the ceiling of the top storey, so no heat from your home gets into your loft.
The warm loft is where you insulate immediately under the roof, which means your loft space is warm as well.
What are the Types of Loft Insulation?
There are several different types of loft insulation to choose from and a variety of loft insulation materials available:
Batt or blanket loft Roll
The most common form of loft insulation, this comes in rolls of rock, glass or mineral fibre (we use Earthwool by Knauf which is a really good environmentally friendly option), or else foil-backed felt. It’s generally the cheapest option and good all-purpose insulation, especially for between joists.
Sheep Wool Insulation
If you are using sheep wool insulation you will get the added benefits of the material being able to absorb moisture as well and is a perfect material for loft insulation.
Rigid Insulation Boards
Rigid Insulation Boards also are known as Sheet insulation and insulated boards are more expensive than the wool, however, they offer double the insulating capacity (therefore where you would normally use 270mm of wool, you would only require 135mm of the insulating board). They can be cut to size using a saw to fit between the joists and also drilled to allow room for light fittings.
Blown-fibre
Blown fibre insulation must be installed by a professional. An installer will use specialist equipment to blow insulation material into the gaps that require it. Blown Fiber is certainly the cheapest way to go, the loft space itself will be very cold in the winter.
Loose Fill Loft Insulation
Insulating your loft floor using loose-fill is great as a top-up process for a pre-insulated space. It tends to be light material such as recycled newspapers and mineral wool, which can be spread to cover any gaps between the joists. You simply open the bags of insulating material and pour into any spaces that were previously lacking an adequate level of insulation. This process is a fairly simple do-it-yourself job.
Do I need to provide extra ventilation to my loft space if I insulate it?
That depends on whether it is adequately ventilated at the moment. Increasing the amount of insulation in the loft can lead to condensation of water vapour on any timber there. If your loft is not properly ventilated your installer will advise you and can install simple vents that will ensure adequate airflow through the loft.
What are the benefits of Loft insulation?
The heating and electricity bills will reduce to a minimum.
Reduction in the Carbon footprint of your home.
Constantly improves the energy efficiency of your home.
It increases the value of your home.
Preserve the warm temperature throughout.
Easy to Install and has longevity.
No matter how big your loft is, you can insulate it easily.
The installation cost of the loft varies according to the size and the material that is being used. The material is easily available in the market and you can easily insulate the loft by yourself. You can do it as long as you can easily get into your own space; there are no condensation, damp and leakage problems. If you are a DIY installer then it can take you more time than the professional, and you have to know the entire process thoroughly.  There are many ways to set up your attics with insulators-
Firstly, you need to clear the old stuff and boxes out of the loft space.
Check for gaps and holes in any pipes and water tanks before.
Check for electrical wiring and whether it is a necessity and why you must take care of all the essential electrical points and wires that are stretched out.
You must get the right measurement for your loft and for that, you need the right amount of blanket insulation.
You have to unroll the loft insulation roll and make sure that that is laid down in between the joists. These rolls are usually 1140mm wide, and one needs to cut it. Use scissors and cut the material short for the appropriate length.
You have to create a second layer in the right angles. You will need 200mm wool if your first layer is 100 mm deep. This in total will bring the total layering to 300mm.
Can I Use my loft as a storage space?
This is a very common idea when one wants and plans to use their loft for storage space. Once you have insulated your loft correctly, you can literally store anything in there. Many times, we face the difficulty with things in the loft losing shape and turning bad. This can happen because of the weather and the environment of the attic. Too much cold and too much heat can affect the loft, and that may affect the things that were around. The idea is to turn the entire space to make sure that the room is productive, and one can easily make certain that all is done well. Keeping a check on the space while installing is the right thing to do because that is how one can make sure that how much material is required insulating.
How can one resist condensation in Loft?
