Thoughts on Studio Ghibli's Earwig and the Witch

The animation was great tbh the characters were really expressive and everything looked so comfy and lovingly rendered. I'm not sure why the graphic got so much hate the movie was perfectly pretty.

Idk if it was just me but the audio felt really off sometimes. The awkward dub lipsync aside the music was either too loud, too quiet or just plain ill fitting at times. Which is a waste since the actual soundtrack is pretty good

Maybe like halfway through the movie i was starting to think this would have been better executed as a tv show. And after the sudden timeskip and that super abrupt ending it was just solidified to me. Like i was definitely enjoying it but personally as a periodic tv show the pacing would have been much better.

From the getgo I realized that Earwig was a bit of a spoiled brat (which wasn't an issue to me in the least i would have loved her as a kid) but i honestly wasn't expecting for everything to end up going her way in the ending. That little girl knew what she was about and how to get what she wanted and did not hesitate lol 😂. A true master of manipulation with little to no repercussions. When i say I was pleasantly surprised by her taming her new fam to her every whim.

I do wish we actually got more info of the band's backstory it felt kinda brushed aside tbh and I got really invested in their flashbacks

The Mandrake was kinda hot ngl (but in like a tumblr sexyman kinda way) Not a fan of his super obvious anger issues tho, man needs anger management.

In fact the Mandrake, Bella Yaga and Earwig were all fairly spoiled selfish people they all kinda deserved each other and the fact that they just roll over once Earwig figures out how to stroke their ego's is jokes

Ultimately it was a pretty good movie and doesn't really deserve the hate I see it get. It does have it's issues but nothing glaring enough for the reviews to be this bad
