REDA Labs

After 3 months of constant work, we are proud to present the final video for our project. This was an amazing experience and we are very happy with the output. The environment was really elevated by the sound design and script with the help from our supporting team. We are really thankful to each and everyone who helped us to make this project a reality.

Shape evolution of water and saline droplets during icing/melting cycles on superhydrophobic surface

Publication date: 15 January 2018 Source:Surface and Coatings Technology, Volume 333 Author(s): Ehsan Rahimi, Ali Rafsanjani-Abbasi, Ali Davoodi, Alireza Kiani-Rashid In this study, bright nickel coating and superhydrophobic nickel film with micro-nano cones were prepared by electrodeposition. The topography and morphology of films were characterized by SEM and AFM. The evolution of shape parameters of water droplet including contact angle and contact diameter were measured by successive icing/melting cycles at −10/+25 and relative humidity of 30±2%. In addition, the freezing delay time was measured as a function of the surface topography and morphology. In presence of micro-nano cones, longer freezing delay time (110min) observed in comparison with bright nickel (34min). Power spectral density of AFM images showed that the superhydrophobic film has higher roughness distribution in all frequencies than bright nickel film. Also, it was shown that saline droplet has similar contact angle with water droplet on superhydrophobic surface (slightly changes from 156±2° to 154±1.5°) in ambient temperature. Furthermore, it was observed that contact angle of pure water and saline droplets was decreased in single icing/melting cycle to 141±2° and 138.6±1°, respectively. The reason was attributed to formation of concave ice, capillary condensation and frosting. Finally, electrochemical measurements showed that after 40 icing/melting cycles (2h icing at −20°C and melting at 25°C for each cycle) by immersing in pure water and saline solutions, corrosion resistance of the superhydrophobic nickel film presented fairly less protection level, particularly in saline solution. Exhibition and Prize Distribution Ceremony of Arjumand Painting Award 2017 on Today (Thursday 11 May 2017) at Pakistan National Council of the Arts Islamabad.

76 Artists have been included in the exhibition

Senator Sherry Rehman, an ardent art lover and collector of Pakistan has kindly consented to be the Chief Guest

5pm: Exhibition opens

6:30pm: Arrival of Chief Guest

7:00pm: Prize distribution ceremony

The curator and owner of Gallery 6, Mr Arjumand Faisel posted on social media that they are getting many queries about the judgment process and about announcement of the results.

Here are details of judgment process

The transparent process is being outlined below to remove confusions and misunderstandings

Phase 1: Screening of digital images to shortlist participants (done)

Phase 2: Selection of at least best 50 paintings (may be more) for the exhibition from those received by the gallery.

Phase 3: Choosing a maximum of 16 paintings from those selected for the exhibition

Phase 4: Selection of 4 paintings for the prizes through an objective scoring method from 16 paintings chosen in phase 3.

Announcement of results on 11 May 2017 at 7 pm
