Marvin Sapp's 15th Album - SUBSTANCE - Available Now!

Marvin Sapp, Senior Pastor of The Chosen Vessel Church in Fort Worth, Texas, is a mainstay in Gospel music in no small part because of his consistency. On June 10th, Sapp released his 15th album, Substance, a lyrical and sonic masterpiece that demonstrates the depth and breadth of his God-given musical gift.

While Substance is Sapp’s 15th offering, it is also the first album released on his newly-formed independent label Elev8 Music & Entertainment (distributed through Thirty Tigers), and it is the first album to be recorded in his newly built 2,400 square foot Fort Worth, Texas studio.

“Being the artist and the label was a new experience,” says Sapp. “I’m used to recording the album, turning it in and letting the label do what it does best with administration, marketing and promotions. This time, I was the artist, conceptualizing and creating, and the label head, looking over budgets, production, marketing and promotions. It was a lot, but it was fulfilling. I’ve thought about having my own label for many years and now that I finally do, I embrace the challenge. I’m also grateful for long standing industry relationships that I have been able to call on for assistance and guidance when needed.”

The lead single, “All In Your Hands,” was written by Sapp and frequent collaborator Stan Jones. The luminous track speaks to the anxiety that so many of us continue to experience because of the COVID-19 pandemic and everything else happening in the world. “It speaks directly to the unsurety, the stress and pain and tells us that we do not have to worry about these things because God made us some promises, and we know He keeps His promises. A Decade In The Rearview

In 2010 I was a senior in high school and I made a decision to skipout college to start my journey learning how to “build”. My first effort was a creative collective called Vizionary Mindz. I had no true understanding of business or leadership and winded up creating a very well marketed art club for young creatives to support one another. This effort landed me in the largest magazine in my hometown featured in an issue labeled “The Visionaries” that also highlighted the mayor and several seasoned business owners.

The article was released at the top of 2012 and started off what became an amazing year for me; the interview going into print opened up a wave of opportunities for myself and many of my peers. My longtime mentor Kevin Foard contacted me about an opportunity to teach public school students creative skills through a school program, 21st Century. I brought in two of my friends; Keith who was working at Lenscrafters at the time and Juwan who was doing patient transport at the local hospital, to dive in with me on the op and make our first attempt at a full time living as creatives. I also got brought in to work as a creative consultant for a streetwear store that was being opened up in Downtown Savannah, ELEV8ED, this was another opportunity that I brought a gang of friends into and helped start off the careers of dozens of creatives in the city thanks to the stores' founder Mark.

In 2013 my ambition got the best of me and I decided to abruptly pack up my shit and move to Atlanta into a friend of mine, Rameer, basement until I figured out how to get an apartment in the city at 19. Since I relocated I had a chance to spend more time working with the production company that taught me how to produce high-quality videos, Motion Family, these guys took me in and showed me how everything worked from budgets to artist relations – I fell in love with the biz. After 7 months a good friend, Jordan , connected us with his brother who had a renovated house on the southwest side of Atlanta – 1316 Avon Avenue aka “The Club House”. The experiences, people and lessons I learned during this time completely changed my life. It taught me how to survive on my own and how shit really works in the entertainment business. This was where I “earned my stripes” going on tours with artists like Bankroll Fresh (R.I.P.) , India Shawn, Key! and shooting videos for Kodie Shane, Wiz Khalifa and Taylor Gang, Curren$y, Childish Major and connecting with some amazing people in the entertainment industry that to this day I still work with.

On New Years Eve in 2015 everything ended for me and I winded up mopping up a shit ton of blood in my kitchen and moving back to Savannah to make an effort to get out of the music business and step completely into the world of corporate marketing with my first true company, BCKYRD. The truth of it is that life just made the stars align for Juwan, Keith and me to all be in the mental headspace to start a partnership and build in a way we never had before.

BCKYRD forced me to learn what equity is really all about. Hiring a staff that I truly admire and respect made me realize that my shit stinks and I don’t know everything and in moments I don’t know anything. The warmth and pride I felt in watching people “clock out” at 5p inspired me. The anxiety and disappointment I felt when I failed my team during a bad quarter and had to let people go , broke my spirit and changed me forever. Through it all I survived a devestating calamity and was able to define my purpose in a way I never had before.

From 2010 to 2019 I’ve been on a journey to prove to myself that I could build anything I wanted - the life I want for myself, companies that are valuable to the world, careers for other people that are passionate and spending literally every possible minute I can on this idea, I did it, I proved to myself what I could do with the right ingredients and I’m hell bent on spending the next 10 years of my life with precision and no retreat on every single thing I want.

for two decades, FAMESTAR has contributed as a cultural staple to asian pop music. with the largest number of groups in the industry, FAMESTAR always has an act promoting one way or another. due to their financially driven business plan, the company has had a few hiccups in the 2010s. lawsuits and mistreatment scandals have popped up and the true nature of the poor working conditions and unrealistic expectations have come to light. with all of these scandals, FAMESTAR has struggled to reclaim their dominance in sales and success. perhaps with ceo changes and avant garde group concepts, FAMESTAR can regain their former glory.

started by former beloved popstar lee myungbak, MYB has been praised for their consistency. in house music production and choreography give them a unique edge over their competitors. they show true diversity through their musical acts, delivering kbands, pop groups, and even producing the first ever co-ed group. MYB brings home high achievements every year but faces endless criticism for overworking idols. despite having the least amount of controversy, fans can’t help but notice how tired the MYB idols and trainees look. perhaps it’s the price for remaining a leader in album sales and dome tours in east asia.

with the least amount of music groups and trainees, fusion still manages to dominate in sales and dedicated fanfare. this is the company fans love to hate, given their permanent place in every tabloid. between dating scandals, copyright issues, mental health scares and drug use, fusion is a breeding ground for drama. even though most loathe the company as a whole, their artists see more success than they could ever imagine. with a lack of comebacks, they still grace the covers of magazines, become brand ambassadors for international fashion houses, and feature on tracks by some of the top artists in the industry.
