Epiphyllum oxypetalum, also known as Kadupul or Queen of the Night, is considered one of the most expensive flowers in the world, due to its rarity, fragrance and the fact that it doesn’t survive long enough to even be picked. It blooms rarely (usually once a year) and only at night, and then will die by the next morning.
My epiphyllum bloomed last night. I managed to catch most of it in a time-lapse in a 12 hour period from 8PM to 8AM.
My time-lapse from a previous year didn't catch the side view of it closing so I'm glad this one worked out despite recording after it already started to bloom.
The trailing cactus Epiphyllum anguliger (fishbone cactus) has distinctive flattened green stems that have notched edges. These leaf-like stems are initially upright before becoming more elongated and pendent. There can be fragrant, white flowers in the summer.
She's still blooming! I brought her into my room because the flower smells amazing! I'm not sure if this is going to be her permanent spot or if I'll put her back outside after the bloom closes. It's about time to bring the plants outside in, but she's been so happy outside.
