#FB/C are claiming to be in it for 2030 and French Olympics

I think with FBC and the Shibs we are seeing 1) how hard it is for skaters to find something after skating that feels meaningful and 2) the weakness of the current top 3 leading everyone to think they can come back and be successful.

I totally agree with both points, these teams are coming back because they feel the field is open and they can be in contention.

To me, I would be less negative about both comebacks if I will see each of the teams truly try to do something different, try to challenge themselves, and challenge the sport. That's one of the main reasons that I respect Tessa and Scott's comeback so much, they were very open about feeling they still have more to give, feeling like they have unfinished business, and feeling like they want to really challenge themselves and do things differently. And they did, they came back with new lifts, new styles, revamped technical skills, changed coaches, and changed the way they skate and prepare. At the same time, the Shibs and FB/C are coming back to the same coaches, FB/C seem to simply be doing whatever Cizeron is already comfortable with, and the Shibs have yet to release even one skating video and have only done PR in their 2018 costumes and an old lift. To say I'm not optimistic about what these two teams will bring to ice dance is an understatement, unfortunately, but I will say their motivation seem to mostly be around going to another Olympics and not anything else.
