La contaminación lumínica es pérdida de energía

Esta foto fue tomada a nivel del suelo, probablemente desde el techo de otro edificio. De esta imagen se puede decir que:

° Muchas fuentes a nivel del suelo van hacia arriba. Se pueden ver desde donde la foto fue tomada. ° La iluminación de las calles es demasiado brillante. Por lo general, las calles son iluminadas mucho más de lo que necesitamos para ver y movernos con seguridad. ° La luz se proyecta desde las ventanas del edificio hacia afuera. En muchas ciudades los rascacielos dejan las luces encendidas toda la noche. Esto tiene consecuencias para la vida silvestre, especialmente para las aves migratorias. ° También hay luz en los techos o puntas de los edificios que nadie usa. Mucha de esa luz nunca llega a un objetivo. Si pensamos en cómo generamos electricidad, ambos factores se acumulan con el tiempo.

Light Pollution is Energy Waste

This picture is taken from ground level, probably from the roof of another building. From this picture it can be said that:

° A lot of ground sources are going upwards, because they can be seen from the level above ground.

° The streets are lit too brightly. Typically streets are lit a lot higher than what we need to be able to see and move around safely.

° Light is also projected out of the building windows. In many cities skyscrapers leave lights on all night long. This has special consequences for wildlife, especially migratory birds.

° There's also light from the top of the buildings that no one uses. A lot of that light never reaches an intended target. If we think about how we make electricity, it adds up over time.
