📍For this second edition, Founder Sade Boyewa El @sadeelharlem and Co-Curator Heryte Tefery Tequame @her_eat continue the mission of inspiring meaningful conversations, fostering connection, and bridging some of the many visible gaps in the community through personal images of our Harlem neighbors. By documenting #Harlemites in their intimate spaces, we want to give viewers a deeper look into family life, creativity, faith, relationships, and love within our community. This year, we're also bringing teen perspectives into the mix by inviting 3 youth photographers to share their work with you.

George Francis Vitanovec
Tumblr media
A member of the “Greatest Generation,” George Francis Vitanovec, was welcomed into the arms of God and his beloved wife, Agnes, January 27, 2022 at age 103.
George (Frank) lived a long life full of many varied experiences. Born in Swoyersville to John and Mary Stofko Vitanovec on September 15, 1918, he lived through the Spanish Flu Epidemic and Great Depression; served honorably in World War II in the South Pacific, returned home, married and raised a family.
As the fourth child, but first son of nine children, George helped his family from a young age, leaving formal schooling after eighth grade.  He spent some of his teen years working in Pennsylvania’s forests as part of Civilian Conservation Corps.  Coal mining work came next, working at Huber Mine, 1938 to 1942, and achievement of his Miner’s Certification,
Following the attack on Pearl Harbor, George volunteered and served his country in the U.S. Army, 31st Division, 167th Infantry Service Company. He served in the South Pacific, landing on New Guinea, Mindanao, Mauritia and various parts of Philippine Islands. He earned Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, Meritorious Unit Award, Philippines Liberation Ribbon, American THR Service Medal, Asia-Pacific Medal, and WWII Bronze Stars. He was honorably discharged in 1945 as Technician 5th Grade.
George married Agnes Bogutski on October 17, 1942.  Returning from the service, they made their home at top of the Hill, raising their family and sharing 55 years of marriage until her death in 1997. George is survived by their four children: Agnes Mary Massacesi (Raymond); George R. (Shirley); Gloria Jeanne Heffron; John Charles (Suzanne); Grandchildren: Kerry Flaherty ( Kevin); Linda Jeanne Kilmer (Steve); George (Susan); Richard Bobb; Elizabeth Vitanovec; Nicholas Vitanovec; Michael Flaherty (Xemena), Patrick Flaherty. Great-grandchildren: Alyssa Bobb; Allison Vitanovec; Ryan Bobb. Also by sister, Leona Mikolaichik; morning coffee best buddy, former son-in-law, Robert Bobb; nieces, nephews and godchildren. He was preceded by seven siblings: Elizabeth O’Donnell, Mary Fela, Helen Kush, Irene Drobenak, John, Albert, and Anna Sobuta.
George left mining in early 50s, and became “Hank the Plumber,” working for many families and businesses in local communities.  Even after his formal retirement, he helped others until his mid-80s.  Always active, he grew large vegetable gardens and lovely zinnias, saving seeds yearly. He bowled, mastered wine making, enjoyed wood crafts, watched birds, played card and dice games.
George faithfully attended St. Mary’s Annunciation RC Church, Kingston, from his wedding day until its closure, moving to Holy Family RC Church, Luzerne.  He belonged to Andrew Lawrence American Legion # 644 for years, and was the “last man” of its Last Man Club. He was last charter member of Mohawk Rod & Gun Club, Monroeton and a member of Northend Slovak Club, Wilkes-Barre.  To honor his military service, George received a “Quilt of Valor” from Luzerne County Quilt of Valor Chapter, September, 2021.
Throughout his life he spent many enjoyable hours hunting small game and deer, fishing in local ponds and streams, and cheering on the Phillies and Steelers.  George’s happiest times were with his family, especially sharing stories of his life experiences.
Services for George will be held Friday, February 4, 2022 with viewing 10 to 11 am, followed by the funeral mass at 11 at Holy Family RC Church, Bennett Street, Luzerne. Interment: St. Mary’s Annunciation Cemetery, Pringle.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Hugh B. Hughes & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, Forty Fort.
If you wish to honor George, in lieu of flowers, do a good deed for someone or visit an older person and listen to his stories.

Having seen the number of artistes signed under the label reduced by one with the unexpected departure of their most valuable artiste, Kiss Daniel months ago, the G-Worldwide Entertainment management, headed by Emperor Geezy, have moved to add two new promising talent to the music entity.
In a press statement released couple of days ago, the label revealed the new addition to the premier African music company by stage names Ajura and Easy Jay with a concise biography of them.
Speaking of the new signees, the label’s Head of Artist Management, Louiza Williams said: “We are thrilled to welcome Ajura and Easy Jay to the G-Worldwide family. They have all it takes to develop and become superstars in the African music scene, and will be game-changers in dominating and bringing African music to the world. We are extremely excited to have them as a part of the team and are eager for the journey ahead.”
Ajura and Easy Jay joins Sugarboy who now fly the flag of the record label as her lead act.
ABOUT AJURA
Ajura took a very unconventional route to making music. He began as a dancer. Born Daniel Alaba Ojamomi, in Ondo State, Nigeria, he is the last child of a family of 8. Tragedy struck early when he lost his dad at 3. But he forged on.
His early education was in Kabe College, Ilogbo, where he picked up dancing as an art of expression. He would later become popular as a member of the school football team, picking up the nickname, Ojams 10.
A lack of funding limited his chances of becoming a professional footballer, although he had support from his mother. But that support didn’t accompany his decision to make music.
After discovering his love for music, he dived into music production, dedicating his time and scarce resources to creating art. He was later able to start earning from his craft and providing for his family. Ajura, possessing a large heart, would later finance projects for his talented friends, paying for studio sessions and equipment. But his mother insisted on getting him more education, which he did.
In 2013, Daniel got admitted to Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka, where he honed his craft, polishing his talents amassing fans via releasing and performing music. He graduated in 2016.
Ajura was signed to G-Worldwide Entertainment in 2018. He has a diverse set of musical influences, including luminaries such as Asa, D’Banj, Wande Coal, Sugarboy, Burna Boy, Kiss Daniel, Beyonce, Akon, Chris Brown, and R. Kelly.
“He sees music as a tool and agent of change, both physically and mentally. I want to use my music to speak for the dumb, my lifestyle to influence the deaf and my sound to open the inner eyes (minds) of the blind,” – Ajura said of himself.

  ABOUT EASY JAY
Easy Jay watched his parents go through a divorce as a kid. But that didn’t stop him from finding his path.
Born Oluwashola Raymond Oyekan, in the ghetto of Mushin, Lagos State, he is the first child from a family of three. At age 12, while in High School, his parents got a divorce and split up the family. That would take a toll on the young man, who went through primary education at Queen Maris International School, before moving to St. Saviours International School.
Irrespective of the breakup, he carried through his education, and found a way to move past the hurt to keep loving his parents.
Music came to him in middle school. At 13, he was already trying his hands at songwriting, and would use school free periods as mime sessions. All of these got him the colourful nickname Sholi Akon. He was also popular for his rare accent and scintillating vocals.
His first recording experience came in 2015, where he impressed in the studio, snagging an instant management deal with the producer, which helped him get more music recorded and developed his talent. That same year, he got into the Federal University of Technology, Akure, where he is currently in line for a degree in Project Management.
Easy Jay was signed to G-Worldwide Entertainment in 2018, and cites Fela Kuti, 2face Idibia, Usher and Chris Brown amongst others as his key influences. He operates across genres, blending elements from Alt-R&B, Highlife and Afro Pop.
“In few years, I want to inspire a young boy somewhere in Africa or anywhere around the world watching on me on TV to say ‘I want to be just like Easy Jay,” – Easy Jay.
