Mumbai University First Merit List 2025: Detailed Information
Mumbai University released the First Merit List for Undergraduate Admissions for the academic year 2025-26 on May 27, 2025, at 11:00 AM. This announcement is a major victory for thousands of students applying to courses such as BA, BCom, BSc, BMS, BMM, and various other self-financed programs across the university’s affiliated colleges. The merit list is prepared based on the students’ marks in their Class 12 (HSC) or equivalent board examinations and includes consideration of various reservation categories and quotas.
Mumbai University conducts its entire admission process online. The first essential step is the pre-admission online enrollment form, which all students are required to fill out before applying to individual colleges. Only those who complete this form are eligible for the admission process. Once the First Merit List is released, students whose names appear must proceed with online document verification and payment of course fees within the designated timeframe. These steps confirm their admission to the selected college and course.

The admission timeline is clearly defined. The First Merit List was released on May 27, 2025, followed by online document verification and fee payment from May 28 to May 30, 2025, up to 3:00 PM. The Second Merit List is scheduled for release on May 31 at 7:00 PM, with its document verification and fee payment period from June 2 to June 4. The Third Merit List will be published on June 5 at 7:00 PM, and related processes will be conducted from June 6 to June 10. Orientation and the commencement of the academic year are set to begin on June 13, 2025.
During the verification stage, students must submit several essential documents. These include Class 10 and Class 12 mark sheets, a school leaving certificate, an Aadhar card or any government-issued ID proof, a caste certificate (if applicable), an income certificate for a fee concession or scholarship, a domicile certificate (if required), a recent passport-sized photo, and a copy of the pre-admission enrollment form. All documents must be scanned clearly and uploaded as per the instructions provided by the university and respective colleges.
Following successful verification, students need to pay the course fees through online payment methods. Most colleges accept payments via net banking, debit or credit cards, and UPI services. It is important to complete this step within the given timeline, as failure to do so may lead to cancellation of the admission offer and the seat being allotted to another candidate.
If a student’s name does not appear in the First Merit List, there is no reason for concern. Mumbai University publishes multiple merit lists to accommodate more students based on seat availability after each round. Many students successfully secure admission through the Second or Third Merit Lists. Students should regularly check the university and college websites and keep their documents ready for quick submission once their name appears in any subsequent list.
The academic session for first-year students begins with an orientation program on June 13, 2025. During this orientation, students are introduced to their college’s academic structure, regulations, schedules, and support systems. Regular classes are expected to commence soon after the orientation.
The release of the Mumbai University First Merit List 2025 marks the beginning of a critical phase in the academic lives of aspiring students. With a digital-first, transparent admission process, the university has made it easier for applicants to secure admission in a fair and efficient manner. By adhering to deadlines, ensuring proper documentation, and staying informed, students can smoothly navigate the process and take the first step toward their higher education journey.
