Hey what's your take on separatism? As a bi girl who's sworn off guys I'm down with some parts of it but this one person said she only keeps female pets which I think is a bit extreme so I have some mixed feelings about it....
I think separatism is great in theory and in practice. I think the idea that separatism, life independent of men, should be a viable option for every woman is a good goal for feminism to strive for.
I also think there are many different "levels" to separatism and women should be encouraged to explore what they want and what serves them. I guess "ultimate" separatism is often imagined as self-sufficient women's land far from the "man's world" and that's wonderful when women make it happen. But it's been brought up in separatism discourse on radblr that it can also be prioritising female relationships in your life, choosing other women whenever possible, as doctors and service providers etc, supporting other women in different ways, reading and listening to and watching art and media made by women... It's a shame when some women recoil from separatism because they think it means cutting off contact with all the men in your life and putting your male pets up for adoption :D. I think separatism is more about building relationships and networks with other women, having a sense of sisterhood with other women and supporting and helping other women, as well as pushing to create a world where women can live a life completely independent of men.
