Competizioni GT - 200th Win for the Ferrari 488 GT3

The victory of the 488 GT3 no. 11 of Car Guy team at Buriram was the GT3 configuration eight-cylinder turbocharged Ferrari berlinetta’s 200th (obviously including class wins) out of 406 races in the short span of three seasons, a win rate of 49.25%. This is an incredible achievement considering the highly competitive nature of the GT3 motorsport scene, with over 10 manufacturers involved in four continents.

Winning debut - The 488 GT3 made its debut in Australia and America on the weekend of 17-20 March 2016. The car took part in the first round of the Australian GT championship, at Melbourne, and the prestigious 12 Hours of Sebring, which counts towards the IMSA SportsCar Series championship. It enjoyed a spectacular debut weekend. The 488 GT3 of DeFelice Homes, with Benny Simonsen and Andrea Montermini, won four out of four races. However, Christian Nielsen, Alessandro Balzan and Jeff Segal did even better in the Scuderia Corsa car, which beat its top rivals at the Florida classic, before going on to complete the season in the best possible way by taking the GTD class title.

Versatile and high-performance. The 488 GT3 has always stood out for its ease of driving, due to excellent aerodynamics and the engine, with its powerful but gentle delivery, which has proved almost indestructible over time. In the three seasons of its career 45 teams have chosen the car and 231 drivers have taken the wheel. It has won 43 titles.

A year to remember. The 488 GT3’s win count has steadily increased year by year, with the car clocking up its 100th victory in March 2018 in the PWC Championship courtesy of Toni Vilander and Miguel Molina at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, and then sealing its 200th less than a year later at the Buriram race of the Asian Le Mans Series Championship courtesy of Car Guy team and of drivers James Calado, Kei Francesco Cozzolino and Takeshi Kimura.

Sfortunate e travagliate sono le vicende che lo hanno visto attivo in pochi momenti dal 1812, anno della costruzione di questa "Piccola Fenice" come è definito per la sua somiglianza (in scala molto minore ovviamente) col teatro veneziano. Nel 1855 viene restaurato e ampliato con i palchi di proscenio che si vedono nelle foto, con profusione di fregi in rilievo e a foglia d'oro. La decorazione pittorica è del ferrarese Francesco Saraceni e del Veneto Giovanni Abriani mentre i fregi sono del lendinarese Luigi Voltolini. Vede il suo massimo splendore nei primi anni del '900... Fra l' altro con un "costosissimo" allestimento della Tosca nel 1905 che ne affondò le finanze. L’imbarcazione Namib, uno sloop bermudiano progettato e costruito dal cantiere ligure Sangermani nel 1967, si è aggiudicata sia la vittoria di categoria che quella generale (Overall) in occasione del VII Trofeo Principato di Monaco a Venezia le Vele d’Epoca in Laguna Coppa BNL-BNP Paribas Private Banking.

Evento promosso da Anna Licia Balzan, Console Onorario del Principato di Monaco a Venezia e dalla Direzione del Turismo e dei Congressi del Principato di Monaco a Milano.

La barca, lunga 11,57 metri, si è trasferita da poco in Adriatico proveniente dal Tirreno, dove nel 2014 aveva già vinto il prestigioso Trofeo Panerai nella categoria ‘Classici’. Namib, dell’armatore Pietro Bianchi, difendeva i colori dello Yacht Club Parma.

Il Trofeo, organizzato in collaborazione con lo Yacht Club Venezia, si è svolto con la direzione sportiva di Mirko Sguario e con il patrocinio di A.I.V.E., l’Associazione Italiana Vele d’Epoca.

Venticinque le imbarcazioni partecipanti, suddivise in quattro categorie (Epoca, Classici ‘A’, Classici ‘B’ e Spirit of Tradition) che hanno preso parte a questo evento nato con lo scopo di promuovere il Principato di Monaco sotto il profilo sportivo, turistico e culturale. Giudici di regata Emilia Barbieri e Gianfranco Frizzarin del Circolo Velico Portodimare.

Serenity del 1936, che difendeva i colori del Circolo Velico Conegliano, si è imposto tra le ‘Epoca’, precedendo Pia del 1947 e Santa Maria di Nicopeja del 1901.

Vincitore tra i Classici ‘A’ è stata Naïf, lo sloop costruito nel 1973 per Raul Gardini dal cantiere Carlini di Rimini su progetto dell’americano Dick Carter.

La barca correva per il Circolo Velico Ravennate e ha preceduto in classifica altre glorie della vela come Al Na’Ir III del 1964 e Sagittario della Marina Militare.

Tra i Classici ‘B’ la vittoria è andata a Namib, che si è aggiudicata entrambe le regate nella sua categoria precedendo Nembo II (Yacht Club Adriaco) e Al Na’ Ir II (Yacht Club Hannibal). Infine, nella categoria Spirit of Tradition la vittoria è andata al One Tonner Mozart, che ha preceduto Isabella e Agos.

Questa VII edizione del Trofeo, seconda tappa della “Coppa A.I.V.E. dell’Adriatico” 2019, ha visto la partecipazione della Marina Militare con l���imbarcazione dello Sport Velico Marina Militare “Sagittario” ora assegnata alla Sezione Velica di Venezia – Scuola Navale Militare “Francesco Morosini” ed utilizzata principalmente con compiti di formazione per gli allievi dell’Istituto.

 “Siamo giunti alla settima edizione del Trofeo, la quinta per le vele d’epoca – sottolinea Anna Licia Balzan – la manifestazione cresce e si rinnova ogni anno. Anche per questa edizione abbiamo potuto contare sull’importante sostegno di BNL-BNP Paribas Private Banking.

La serata di sabato ha visto invece uno standing cocktail presso la darsena del nuovo Marina Santelena.

Per la parte sportiva, sempre sabato e domenica, si sono disputate le due regate nelle acque antistanti il Lido e sempre la domenica il pubblico ha potuto ammirare le imbarcazioni durante la spettacolare veleggiata che ha visto la flotta sfilare nel Bacino di San Marco.

La manifestazione si è poi conclusa con le premiazioni nella cornice del Marina Santelena. Ai primi 3 classificati per ciascuna delle quattro categorie in competizione sono andati i premi realizzati dal prestigioso marchio Barovier & Toso, mentre a Namib è stato consegnato l’Overall.

Per il secondo anno consecutivo Radio Monte Carlo è stata media partner dell’evento accanto ad altri marchi importanti come Diadora, Nature’s e Vehrnier.

Europol has been involved in the investigation since its beginning after a request from Maltese authorities.

“While we continue to work closely with the Maltese authorities, there is some room for improvement in this cooperation and we are actively seeking to address it,” the agency’s outgoing director Rob Wainwright wrote in a letter dated April 26 and seen by Reuters.

Wainwright wrote that the investigation was “highly complex” and involved “a number of EU Member States”.

“New concerns have arisen which are now the subject of further, high-priority investigation by Europol,” he added in the letter, without providing further details.

A spokesman for Europol declined to comment. “What can be said was said by Director Wainwright,” the spokesman told Reuters.

A spokesperson for the Maltese government said: “Malta is cooperating with Europol at every level to get to the bottom of this case. If there is room for improvement, we will make any improvements necessary.”

An EU official said Europol had some concerns about the degree of cooperation it was getting from the Maltese authorities and that, as the investigation proceeded, it was raising more such questions.

The letter was sent to EU Socialist lawmaker Ana Gomes, who chairs a delegation of the European Parliament to investigate the rule of law and money laundering in Malta.

She was not immediately available for comment.

PORSCHE VENCE AS 24H DE LE MANS DE 2017

De último (57º) para a vitória nas 24 Horas de Le Mans. Quem diria que o Porsche 919 número 2 viria a ganhar a edição deste ano depois de ter perdido mais de uma hora em reparações nas primeiras horas da corrida.

Mas venceu, contra todas as expetativas, aproveitando a hecatombe da Toyota e o azar do Porsche 919 número 1 que liderou durante as primeiras horas da madrugada, ultrapassando o Oreca # 38 da Jackie Chan DC Racing, que liderou a corrida e os LMP2, quando faltava uma hora para o final.

O 919 número 2 de Timo Bernhard, Earl Bamber e Brendon Hartley cruzou a linha de meta com uma vantagem de uma volta sobre o Oreca número 38, que venceu na categoria LMP2. É a terceira vitória consecutiva e a 19ª da Porsche nas 24 Horas de Le Mans.

O único Toyota sobrevivente, o número 8, terminou no nono lugar da geral, a 9 voltas do vencedor.

No LMP2, como se disse, o Oreca # 38 da Jackie Chan DC Racing, com Ho-Pin Tung, Thomas Laurent e Oliver Jarvis, venceu, deixando os mais diretos adversários, Nelson Piquet Jr, David Henmeier Hanson e Mathias Beche, a mais de três voltas.

Filipe Albuquerque terminou em quinto com o Ligier # 32 da United Autosports que dividiu com Will Owen e Hugo de Sadeleer.

Nos GTE Pro, a vitória decidiu-se na penúltima volta quando um furo tirou o Corvette C7 R # 63 de Jan Magnussen, Antonio Garcia e Jordan Taylor da liderança e ofereceu a vitória ao Aston Martin # 97 de Jonathan Adam, Darren Turner e Daniel Serra.

O furo acabou por relegar o Corvette para o terceiro posto, atrás do Ford GT # 67 de Harry Tincknell, Andy Priaulx e Pipo Derani.

Em GTE Am, três Ferrari 488 nos três primeiros lugares. O melhor foi o número 84 de Dries Vanthoor, Will Stevens e Robert Simth, na frente do Ferrari 488 da JMW Motorsport de Marco Cioci, Aaron Scott e Duncan Camero, e do Ferrari 488 # 55 da Spirit of Race, e por Cooper McNeil, William Sweedler e Towsend Bell no Ferrari 488 # 62 da Scuderia Corsa.
