When it comes to your Federal Capability Statement, “good enough” is NEVER good enough.
In the federal contracting market, your company’s Capability Statement is typically the first
artifact about your business a federal buyer sees. It’s almost assuredly the first asset they will
request from you.
Many people see the process of sending an interested federal buyer their Capability Statement as one step on the eventual path to federal work. And in looking at it through the lens of “good enough to get the job done”, they miss a significant opportunity. It is always a best practice to focus on those things you can control and execute them well. This
is especially true when it comes to your Capability Statement - especially if you haven’t yet won your first federal contract.
Always remember your Capability Statement represents not just your company, but how you do things. Is your content thoughtful, relevant and engaging? Is your design memorable, high
quality and professional?
Is your format intuitive and does it demonstrate your understanding of what your audience is looking for?
It’s been said that a Capability Statement by itself cannot win you a contract. Perhaps - but it can certainly influence your audience to either seriously consider you as a viable solution or dismiss you entirely, without a second thought.
Call FCC today and let us convert your Capability Statement from “Good Enough” to “Best
in Class”. And for a limited time, we’ll throw in a free SAM.gov renewal and profile optimization at no additional cost!
So call today, and let us help you build your Best in Class Capability Statement.

Do you sometimes get frustrated by the process of bidding on federal contracts in SAM.gov?
Here are 3 reasons why bidding at SAM.gov may not be the best way for you to win federal work:
First – High Competition. Public bid notices in SAM.gov can be seen by anyone all over the world. And since SAM.gov is where everyone is told to go bid on federal work, it makes sense that the highest levels of competition would be associated with the site. And high competition means lower odds of winning.
Second – Timing. Not only does SAM.gov have a lot of competition, it’s likely that some of that competition has the advantage of being weeks or even months ahead of you. If your first exposure to a federal contracting opportunity is a bid posting at SAM.gov, chances are you are too late to really compete against those companies that have been tracking that work since long before it was posted at SAM.gov for bid.
Third – Margins. This is especially true if you are pursuing a Lowest Price Technically Acceptable (or “LPTA”) contract. Not only do you have competitors lowering their bids to try and undercut you, but some of these companies are also willing to break even or even take a slight loss just to get the contract and gain some past performance. Hard to maintain your margins in that environment.
So, if bidding at SAM.gov is not your best option, then what is?
Simplified Acquisitions.
Simplified Acquisitions are purchases below $250,000 that can be awarded directly to your business with no formal announcement, competitive bid process, or significant competition. In fact, some of these awards are made with no competition at all. The catch? They require you to change your approach. You need to evolve from bidding on solicitations to cultivating relationships. From bidding on anything that comes along (the “wide and shallow approach”) to focusing on a few targeted core federal customers (the “narrow and deep” approach). We can help you develop a more effective federal business capture strategy. Our process is overseen by a former Senior Federal Contracting Officer that knows firsthand from experience the value of targeting, preparing, connecting, and competing.
For a limited time, call us today and we’ll develop a complimentary Federal Market Snapshot Report to help you see these hidden, below the radar opportunities in your industry sector, then help you formulate a gameplan to win the work.

You know, even though everyone calls it the federal Contracting market, it’s really the federal purchasing market.
Why? Because not everything the government buys requires a contract. In fact, the most common way the government buys are the same as the rest of us–with a credit card. In fact, last year government buyers swiped credit cards over 95 million times–for approximately $29 billion dollars. And I would bet your business is much more suited to accept credit cards than go through the long and complicated process of winning a federal contract. The challenge? None of these credit card purchases are posted for bid. They’re not announced, not competed, and not advertised.
Yet government buyers swipe credit cards over 250,000 times per day. If you’d like to learn more about how to position your company to participate in the hidden market of federal credit card purchasing, give us a call.
We can help you get connected to the federal agencies–and buyers–using credit cards to purchase the products and services you sell.
So, call now and let’s get you connected to your federal credit card buyers!

Did you know that 78% of small businesses registered as federal contractors are missing critical information in the registrations that are likely preventing them from being considered for federal contracts?
That means almost 4 out of every 5 small business federal profiles needs immediate assistance to improve the quality of their registrations and stop losing out on federal contracting opportunities. So, how do you know if your profile is one of the 4 in 5 that need help? Here’s a key way to tell since you last renewed your SAM.gov registration, has your business received any phone calls or emails from federal buyers that found you while conducting market research?
If the answer is “No”, then you probably need to take another look at your registrations. While there are a number of elements that go into whether or not federal buyers decide to reach out to you directly, there are 3 critical factors that go a long way in determining whether they engage you include: The accuracy and relevance of your Keywords, The quality and competitiveness of your Capabilities Narrative, and The confidence inspired by your Past Performance listings. Nail these three, and you’re more likely to receive those valuable market research calls from federal buyers seeking businesses like yours for upcoming work. If you’d like to have your registrations professionally optimized from the perspective of a former Contracting Officer whose job it was to award small business contracts, give Federal Contracting Center a call.
For a limited time, if you invest in any of our federal business development services we’ll renew and optimize your federal registrations for free.

https://www.federalcontractingcenter.com | My name is Mike Major, and I’m a pastor, father and husband. I’m also the president of Federal Contracting Center, a company dedicated to helping small businesses compete for federal contracts.
While as a business owner I had always been aware of the federal contracting market, it was during the COVID pandemic that I learned first-hand that federal contracting is potentially extremely lucrative but also very difficult for most small businesses to navigate successfully. At the height of COVID, I had access to several sources that had valuable Personal Protective Equipment (more commonly known as “PPE”) on the ground in the U.S. I had access to N95 Masks, Nitrile Gloves, Isolation Gowns…all the most in-demand resources by the federal government.
However, while my products were in demand, the confusion and complexity of working with the federal government prevented me from ever securing a contract. Meanwhile, I would see contracts awarded every day to other small businesses for the exact same products I had…the only difference between them and my company was that they knew how to operate in the federal market, and I didn’t.
It was at that moment that I dedicated myself to helping small businesses avoid the same frustrations that I went through. I started the Federal Contracting Center and immediately sought out the most knowledgeable, talented people in the federal contracting market to provide real value to other small businesses struggling with the same challenges I faced. Our team includes former federal employees, data analysts with decades of experience in the federal market and a knowledgeable and experienced support staff in all aspects of federal contracting, from SAM.gov registration to Market Research to Proposal Development, GSA Schedule Processing and more.
If you’re a small business owner struggling to compete in the federal market, or you feel like you should be experiencing greater success give Federal Contracting Center a call. We’ll help you understand how to Target, Prepare, Connect and Compete in the federal contracting market.

https://www.federalcontractingcenter.com | Federal Contracting Center (“FCC”) is a national provider of federal contracting strategic support to the small business community. Federal Contracting Center (located in West-Central Florida) leverages years of experience in the federal market combined with access to a network of current and former federal contracting professionals to provide practical and effective federal business development guidance and insights. So whether you’re a small business just starting in the federal market or you’ve won millions in federal contracting dollars, Federal Contracting Center will provide valuable insights to help you achieve outstanding results in the federal contracting market.
Small business is not just our target demographic; small business is our purpose. Small businesses are the engine of a more efficient, more competitive capitalist market. Small businesses represent the kind of innovation, forward-thinking, and agility so desperately needed by our government to improve outcomes and better leverage taxpayer dollars.
FCC founder, Mike Major, experienced first-hand the frustrations and setbacks experienced by so many small business entrepreneurs that attempt to compete in the federal contracting arena. As a result, Mr. Major endeavored to leverage his medical supply chain to assist federal agencies in securing desperately needed Personal; Protective Equipment (“PPE”) during the height of the COVID crisis. During this effort, Mr. Major came to understand how disjointed and challenging the federal acquisition environment can be for a typical small business.
Most small businesses that enter the federal contracting market fail to secure revenue from the government. As a result, the industry is challenging to learn and comprehend. While free information about federal contracting marketing abounds on the internet, understanding what information to accept and prioritize takes time and effort. Finding expert guidance that will provide quality direction based on knowledge and skill can take time and effort. Further, most small businesses traditionally need more time, money, and resources to overcome these challenges. FCC strives to reduce cost, reduce time and improve competitiveness for its customers by making the process of “learning, understanding, and doing” in the federal market more efficient, less costly, and more effective. FCC provides education for the things a small business must do itself, support for the tasks the small business should outsource, and guidance to ensure the customer is consistently moving toward competitiveness in the federal arena.
FCC provides full registration support, federal profile optimization, Capability Statement design, website and online presence support, federal market research, professional consulting, proposal response support, GSA and certification processing, negotiation, and fractional business development outsourced talent. These are the critical tools and support most small businesses need to compete effectively in the federal contracting market. According to the Small Business Administration, the average small business spends $80,000 to $130,000 and up to two years pursuing their first federal award. FCC believes improved education, enhanced targeting, more acute support, and a focus on results-oriented guidance can dramatically reduce costs and improve outcomes for small business federal contractors. For example, many small business federal contractors are encouraged to pursue contracting assets such as certifications (including 8(a), HUBZone, Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned, Veteran-Owned, and Woman-Owned) or Master Contracting Agreements (such as a GSA Schedule) without understanding its relevance for their industry or how to monetize the asset. Alternatively, FCC encourages customers to conduct in-depth market research to understand better who their target audience is in the federal market and then determine how they buy (including evaluating the relevance of certifications and GSA Schedule).
FCC’s mission is to arm every small business with the knowledge, tools, and strategy required to compete effectively in the federal contracting market. FCC plans to provide on-demand learning and sophisticated technology tools and continuously add Subject Matter Experts to the leadership team to supply everything a small business needs (and nothing they don’t) to compete effectively in the federal contracting arena.
