I joke about how much playing OFF as my first Proper video game permanently screwed up how I viewed the player & player character relationship, but sometimes i forget that right up until i habitually refer to the player as the puppeteer.

#idk #i think it also primed me to see the game world and story events as whole and separate from player interaction #no more influenced by the player than a chose your own adventure novel #Then spending an actual decade deeply invested in learning about the mechanics and art of game making #the software and knowhow and logistics and people doing things #not the end product #kinda also primed me to see the underlying mechanics of the work before the actual work #less seeing the tree and missing the forest and more intense examination of soil bacterial colonies before noticing the tree #ANYWAYS IM NOT DOING THE FUCKING LUFT BALLOON RANT.#Its lived in me ever since that fucking video.#God 'oh (redacted) is such a good documentarian and hes sooo insighful!'#the mans a dumbass who spent like 40 minutes confused why a game from a now bankrupt studio came out weird.#its because they ran out of money and making games is expensive and Hard and what aounds good on paper might not be good #when the eviction notice for your studio gets posted
