So a bit of background first for our international followers: Clive Palmer is one of Australia's many mining billionaires who like to meddle in our country's politics, and as such he is utterly despised by all of Australia.
Picture for context:
Tumblr media
He is most commonly known online by the title "Fatty McFuckhead", (problematic as it may be) because he tried to sue a youtuber for $500,000 for calling him that - and he lost. So the name stuck.
Tumblr media
Up until his most recent foray into parliament, the legally certified Fuckhead was best known for his batshit business ventures, such as attempting to build "The Titanic 2" (failed) and trying to build a dinosaur theme park (also failed, but at least nobody got eaten by a T-Rex in this one).
For a very long time Clive played the role of sugar daddy to Australia's largest conservative party, the ironically named Liberal Party, until they had a falling out in 2012 after Clive claimed there was too much money influencing politics (lol), at which point he started his own party, days after saying he totally quit and wasn't fired and he only left because he didn't want to be a distraction.
His initial run at parliament was actually kinda successful, with Palmer's group winning 4 seats, plus a member from the "Motoring Enthusiasts Party" joined them too after accidentally getting elected and not knowing what the fuck to do.
Despite this initial success however, Palmer's party (which ran on basically no platform other than "I'm rich") hit an iceberg (titanic 2 achieved) and seven elected state and federal politicians quit within the first year.
Tumblr media
By the time the next federal election rolled around, only one Palmer party candidate was still running for re-election. The most successful of this group - Jaquie Lambie - quit to sit as an independant and is still in parliament today.
Here she is with a painting of herself strangling Clive (she sells signed copies of this)
Tumblr media
And here the senator is posting about liking sausage:
Tumblr media
Anyway, we're getting to the point: which is the yellow posters. By the 2016 election, just two years after forming, the party was in complete freefall. It won just 0.01% of the vote at their second election, and it was announced shortly after that Clive was quitting politics and the party was being shut down. Australia breathed a sigh of relief.
It was, of course, short lived.
Clive, in desperate need of attention, restarted the party for the 2019 election, fielding candidates in every seat and spending $60 million in advertising in an attempt to win votes.
Every single candidate lost.
It was in this campaign however that Australia really started to fall out of love with Palmer, because most of that $60 million went towards putting up the world's least compelling marketing billboards on almost every single free space in the country.
For a good six months this was basically the only thing you would see in Australia if you went outside:
Tumblr media
Clearly Graphic design is his passion. And yes, the genius did just straight up try and copy Trump's homework while changing a few words, hoping nobody would notice.
Very quickly these all got vandalised and it seemed the ad companies didn't care enough to replace them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We could go on posting examples, there are thousands, but the best is definitely the one Ikea put up shortly after Clive lost the election:
Tumblr media
In 2022, Clive's party contested the election AGAIN, this time also opting to send millions on spam text messages to every person in Australia begging for people to vote for him, as well as buying almost every youtube ad for a year, at the cost of $100 million.
He won a whopping one seat.
During this election Clive ran on an anti-lockdown, anti-vax platform with the slogan "freedom, freedom, freedom". That message, however, was slightly undermined when his goons, dressed in 'Freedom!' shirts, made national news for trying to beat up a protester who turned up at a rally dressed as an annoying text message, shouting "pay your workers" at Clive.
Tumblr media
As if that wasn't bad enough, at another rally Clive knocked himself unconscious while trying to jump up on stage, and then a few weeks later was rushed to hospital with covid, while his anti-vax ads were still in regular rotation on TV, at which point it was also leaked to the press that Palmer had been alledgedly trying to buy Hitler's car.
Utterly humiliated, the party deregistered again shortly after the election.
Can't wait until he runs again in 2025.
Anyway, on the other "Clive tweeting Miss Kobayashi's Dragon" thing, we have no idea what that means but here's a screencap:

How To Choose The Best Web Design Agency That’s The Right Fit For Your Business
Did you know that your website is the first impression a prospective customer will have about your business? Are you planning to create a new website or revamp your current site? Well, a professional website helps in shaping your brand by motivating customers and nurturing leads. Hiring a premier web design agency can be the key to understanding your requirements and delivering exactly what you require.
Whether you are building your first website or redesigning an old site to look modern and attractive, a website design agency can give you the online presence to complement your brand. Choosing a web design and development agency involves searching for agencies thoroughly and vetting them depending on your own criteria. But, with the internet bursting with website designers from across the world, how do you choose an agency that fulfils your requirements?
Listed below are a few useful tips to help you find a great website design company.
Vital Aspects To Consider When Choosing A Web Design Agency
Research The Company
The website design company you pick to build your website will truly hold the future of your business in its hands. So, it’s essential to select an agency that’s experienced and well-established, with an enviable reputation and a demonstrated expertise in web design and related skills. Make sure to visit the website for every prospective web development company to see how long they have been in the business, what services they provide, and the level of experience their team members have.
Know Your Timeline & Budget
Having a clear idea of how much you can pay for a new website and when it should be completed is important to finding a reliable web design partner. Establish a cost range instead of a single number and make sure you ask what’s included in the project estimate. Also, you should inquire about how much you will be charged for services and fees that aren’t included.
Another key aspect to consider is your timeline. If you have a tight deadline for the launch of your site, like a product launch or major corporate event, ensure you communicate that deadline to the agency. You should also ask for an honest assessment of if they can meet the deadline or any challenges they anticipate with your timeline.
Consider Their Experience
Look for an agency that has served multiple industries and boasts of a proven record of offering ecommerce web development in Sydney. Since such companies are familiar with a wider audience and several industries, they will be able to build unique, compelling website that increases your reach. No matter whether you are a small business, a global business or a national brand, your web design agency must be able to understand the strategies that work for each.
Check Their Portfolios & Case Studies
Usually, skilled web designers list out their past work on their websites. Explore their portfolio and go through their works to see if their websites meet your expectations. Check to see if they have worked on similar projects or used similar approaches. Furthermore, keep an eye out for the businesses they have worked with in the past.
Next, you should visit the site of their clients and see if you like the experience as a user. Visit several sites and compare them. If every site looks the same, then your site will undoubtedly be the same.
Conclusion:
Your website is an extension of your business and must help you achieve your goals – no matter what they are. So what are you still waiting for? It’s time to hire the best web design agency to build a high-performance website and achieve your business goals effectively.

Compelling Reasons Why You Need Graphic Design Company
By hiring a graphic designer, you can collaborate with a professional from a graphic design company Australia that is knowledgeable about what it takes for a company to be successful in standing out. They'll come up with the ideal website, brochure, or advertisement to get people talking about your business. To elevate your company from excellent to great, you must hire a qualified graphic designer.
1) Beautiful Graphics Tell Your Story
The essence of your company's narrative may be captured with the perfect logo, graphic, or even a simple photograph. Since the earliest cave drawings, people have been using visual components to communicate stories, and this is not about to change.
2) Initial Impressions Count Even On The Web!
People will evaluate your website based on its appearance. There is no getting around it, and you only have 50 ms to create a good impression. You must spend money on a good design since you have limited time to engage with your audience.
3) Be Different From The Others
You can set your company and brand apart from the competition with the use of memorable images, distinctive logos, and well-designed websites. However, they do not merely occur. They are the result of careful consideration of the company's principles, a focus on a powerful brand message, and contributions from top graphic designers. On the other hand, bad graphic design might draw attention to you for the incorrect reasons, as many firms have learned when their logos attracted attention for the incorrect reasons.

Tumblr media
4) Design Ingenuity Can Promote Social Engagement
Social media postings that are visually appealing typically receive more attention than most other ones. Design that is well-thought-out and creative is one of the finest ways to make a company stand out on any social media platform. If you strictly follow brand rules while creating your images, your brand will also become more identifiable.
5) Brand Integrity
The best graphic designers will develop rules that will direct your graphics at each contact point. This is because they are aware of the value of consistent branding and message. The last thing you want is to customize your appearance for each platform. Some people believe that this makes their company "cool," yet all it accomplishes is mislead their target market.
Tumblr media
6) Over Time, Saves Money
A graphic design firm you choose will produce a product that looks professional and stands out, which will aid in the expansion of your company. The cost of employing an amateur is typically more than the cost of hiring a professional. If you are not satisfied, you will often have to pay them to repeat their work, which will take longer.
7) A Memorable Brand Might Be Created With Great Design
Having the ideal logo is only the beginning of great design; there are many other factors as well, such as the color scheme and even how the website works. As the audience grows more familiar with your brand, it is more important to evoke the correct sentiments rather than just the perfect appearance. A constant amazing experience that sticks in the minds of everyone who interacts with your brand is what great design is all about.
8) Storytelling
There is more to graphic design than just the artist who created your logo and colors. It involves giving a tale life and developing an account that will appeal to your target market. Innovators and visionaries are graphic designers. They continually think outside the box and develop fresh strategies for bringing your company to life while upholding your brand values. A graphic designer needs creativity since their primary goal is to portray the story of your company.
The main lesson is that graphic design may be a crucial component of your graphic design company Australia and shouldn't be disregarded. You could believe that since you have creative ideas or are an excellent artist, you don't need a graphic designer. However, hiring experts pays off if you want people to take notice of what you're offering and buy it. Contact us for more information.

[Warning: Graphic (some very graphic) shark-fishing pictures at the link.]
"Suhardi isn’t your average snorkeling guide. Born on the Indonesian island of Lombok, he’s spent his life on water. While he now seeks out sharks for the enjoyment of tourists, he once hunted sharks to help earn money to feed his family and educate his two children.
Suhardi was a fisherman for more than 20 years. He first started fishing working on his parents’ boat, but was then asked to join the crew of a shark boat where he was told he could earn a lot of money. Back on deck, he looks embarrassed to divulge what a meager wage it was, but finally confesses he earned around $50 for up to a month at sea.
Now he and 12 other former shark fishermen are part of The Dorsal Effect, an ecotourism company that helps ex-shark hunters find a new vocation. Each week, the team takes groups of tourists, schoolchildren and university students to off-the-grid locations and guides them around pristine reefs. Each trip is designed to take guests on an exploratory journey of both the shark trade and marine conservation through the eyes of the Sasak people of Lombok.
Tumblr media
Lombok is a hotspot for marine diversity, sitting just east of the Wallace Line, a biogeographical boundary separating Asia and Australia and their respective fauna. Pristine coral gardens and around 80 species of sharks can be found in its waters. The island is also part of the world’s largest shark-fishing nation. Only the whale shark (Rhincondon typus) is protected in Indonesia; all other sharks can be legally caught.
The Dorsal Effect first launched in 2013, a year after Suhardi met Singaporean ecologist Kathy Xu, who had traveled to Lombok to find out more about the shark trade. The diminutive but quietly determined Xu wanted to protect sharks, but because she knew shark fishing was poorly paid and dangerous, she wanted to hear the fishermen’s stories too. They told her how once they could fish for sharks close to shore, but now with the shark population dropping, the fishermen said they needed to travel farther out to sea, only to come home with a relatively poor catch. The reduced catch also meant reduced pay, so they often couldn’t cover their costs...
Yet, when Xu asked why fishers didn’t seek out another trade, she learned they didn’t want to be separated from the sea. They saw it as part of their heritage.
But as they spoke longer, the shark fishermen talked about the coral gardens that could be found under the waves, ones that only they knew about. Inspired by a whale shark diving trip she’d taken with scientists on the Great Barrier Reef, Xu had an idea. “If such spots exist,” she recalls telling the fishers, “I could take tourists out with you and pay you more than you earned shark fishing”.
At first, Xu guided the former shark fishermen on how to become eco-friendly tour operators. They dropped anchor away from the reef, served guests plant-based dishes, and made sure all trash was taken back to shore. But then Xu saw that something special was happening: The former fishermen had started to take the guest experience into their own hands, making sure tourists felt at home. Suhardi painted “Welcome” in large letters over the front of his boat, fitted green baize to the top deck for outdoor seating, and hung curtains in the cabin so his guests could enjoy some shade.
Suhardi has already bought a new boat with his earnings from snorkeling trips. “Every day is my best day,” laughs Suhardi, whose smile always travels from his mouth to his eyes.
While they were receiving tourists from across the globe, there was another group that Xu wanted to reach out to. “I think it was the teacher in me who felt impassioned about influencing the young,” she says. She reached out to schools and created a five-day program that would help students understand the shark trade and local conservation efforts. During the program, paid for by the school and students, participants would not only meet the ex-shark fishermen so they could ask them about their lives, but also hear from NGOs such as the Wildlife Conservation Society about their efforts to slow the trade. The Dorsal Effect also hired marine biologists to host nightly lectures and help the students with their field surveys...
The students were faced with the realities of the fishing trade, but they were also encouraged to take a balanced view by The Dorsal Effect team. The villagers weren’t just taking the fins, and throwing away the rest of the shark; they processed every piece of the animal. While they did sell the meat and fins to buyers at the market, they also sold the teeth to jewelers, and the remains for pet food.
The Dorsal Effect also takes students on an excursion to the fishermen’s village, a small island that lies off the coast of Lombok. Marine biologist Bryan Ng Sai Lin, who was hired by The Dorsal Effect team, says that on one trip with students he was surprised by how quickly the young people understood the situation. “One of them said it’s good to think about conservation, but at the same time these people don’t really have any other choice,” Lin says....
Conservation scientist Hollie Booth of Save Our Seas, which does not work directly with The Dorsal Effect, says the need to provide legal profitable alternatives to shark fishing is critical: “We are never going to solve biodiversity and environment issues unless we think about incentives and take local people’s needs into account. These kinds of programs are really important.”"

the very Sacred Oak Flat is in danger of becoming an open pit copper mine. turning a sacred site into a 1000-ft pit. Apache Leap, ancient petroglyphs, extremely important rituals since time began; these things are Oak Flat. the federal government is ignoring many legal protections as well, including 200 yr old treaty promising to protect the land forever, national park designation, and on the national register of historic places. this project is so, so evil. I want people to know about it. Please read, talk, care about it.
Nice, thank you. The impending destruction of Chi'chil Bildagoteel by the US government and one of the planet's most infamous mining companies.
Over the past 3 years, I’ve written here about defense of Oak Flat, also called Chi'chil Bildagoteel by Chiricahua Apache from San Carlos reservation. (A summary of the site’s importance and history. A summary of the legal challenges to the mine. A summary of Apache Stronghold and other Indigenous-led campaigns. A photo collection featuring Indigenous-led actions in February 2021.) But all of these posts predate the developments that have occurred from the beginning of 2022 until now (March 2023). And the legal case, the fate of the site, is about to be settled this very month.
Well, then, there’s Rio Tinto, the copper mining leviathan, despised across the planet, bane of Australia, so-called Rhodesia, Latin America, Papua, etc. They're the second-largest metals/mining company on the planet. For well over a century, open-pit copper mines have been infamous for the scale of their destruction and I like how you describe it: giant pits, gaping wounds. Oak Flat is destined to belong to Resolution Copper, a subsidiary of Rio Tinto. Just before widespread news of Rio Tinto’s interest in Oak Flat, Rio Tinto had earned an especially-notorious reputation for destroying Indigenous/Aboriginal sites in Australia. A summary of the news about the “atrocity” at Juukan Gorge, when in May 2020, Rio Tinto destroyed an important sacred cultural site containing Indigenous shelters over 45,000 years old, and Rio Tinto leaders apparently had foreknowledge of the area’s cultural importance. Here’s a look at what is perhaps the oldest surviving human art on the planet, some petroglyphs and shelters up to 50,000 years old, being destroyed by the truly astonishing scale and diversity of destructive mining operations in Western Australia. And here’s a look at many other ancient and modern Indigenous sacred sites being destroyed by mining in that region.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sacred Land Film Project put together some informational graphics:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyway, a basic summary.
Originally, this mine was kinda known as, like, “the John McCain Land-Grab Deal” because Senator McCain sold out the state of Arizona and Indigenous people by basically promising a formal transfer of land and the creation of what would become a major mining site at Oak Flat. Mining in the Oak Flat area was technically prohibited decades earlier by an Eisenhower presidential/executive order, but in December 2014, McCain sneaked a hidden last-minute rider onto a must-pass defense spending bill.
In May 2020, Rio Tinto gets caught destroying those sites at Juukan Gorge.
So, in October 2020, Indigenous activists discovered that the supposed date of the land transfer finalization had been quietly and suddenly moved up like a full year, meaning that the site might have become a mine beginning in December 2020 or January 2021.
At this point, the Oak Flat mine was becoming known as, like, “Trump’s Rushed/Hurried Mining Deal,” since the Trump presidential administration seemed to want to quickly act on the mine before any potential presidential transfer of power might occur in January 2021, “just in case” they lost the November 2020 election.
So this is when Apache Stronghold and other Native advocates really started finally getting national recognition in headlines. They organized a Day of Action and statewide events around the Solstice in 2020, and by January 2021, they had forced the case into court.
In the January 2021 case of Apache Stronghold v. United States, an Arizona judge ruled against Native advocates, but advocates got the case heard by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. While the case was being argued, in February 2021, Apache Stronghold also participated in a newsworthy relay from Oak Flat to the courthouse in Phoenix, when Native advocates held a candlelight vigil.
But in March 2021, the US Forest Service announced that it was temporarily withdrawing its environmental impact assessments for the land transfer, putting the mine on hold.
In October 2021, the three judges on the appeals court ruled against Apache Stronghold again.
Over a year later, in November 2022, the court then announced something unusual: The court was willing to rehear the case en blanc (before a panel of all 11 judges).
And now, “Biden’s attorneys” will be arguing against Apache Stronghold and for the land transfer.
Throughout this entire process, Apache Stronghold has consistently been vocal, active, and dedicated to stopping it.
Here are some headlines from the past couple of years:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And from March 2023, this headline, one more time, for impact:
Tumblr media
So, beginning on 21 March 2023, the case is being heard, again, for what is presumably the final time, with US government attorneys arguing that the land will belong to the mining companies by summer 2023.
