HINO MATSURI interview 2019

Changhong Publishing House invited " Vampire Knight Memories" HINO MATSURI to Taiwan today (4th) to hold a signing event. The original work of " Vampire Knight " ended the bloody battle between vampires and humans with Kaname's self-sacrifice. Then the " Vampire Knight Memories" launched later began to describe the story of the king's sleep for thousands of years. Before the signing event started, she also accepted interviews from the media and shared her experience in creating the sequel. (Due to the requirements of the organizer, this event cannot take pictures of the teacher’s front)

Q: What kind of response has " Vampire Knight " received from readers after it was completed?

A: Of course there are both positive and negative comments, but in fact most readers think that although the ending is very bitter, it is still a good ending.

Q: What was the opportunity to continue writing the extra story of " Vampire Knight "?

A: I just had the opportunity to write a special article that I will talk about in the future. After I drew one, I found that the response from readers was particularly enthusiastic. After all, I have special emotions for the characters, so I hope to pour more love into them. , and finally I am very grateful for the permission and stage to continue painting.

Q: Why did you decide to tell kaname the story of these thousand years from the perspective of Yuki's daughter: "Ai"?

A: Ai grew up hearing about her parents’ mistakes, regrets, and pain. I think she learned some things from her parents, so she has a calm and objective perspective, so it might be most suitable for her to tell it.

Q: " Vampire Knight Memories" contains the stories of the characters while they were sleeping in the Hub for thousands of years. How did you feel when you created it?

A: I always hold the belief that "unknown characters also have hidden inner dramas" when describing this work. Even the supporting characters who don't even have names have their own stories, let alone those characters with names. My own mood is that I don’t want to ignore these characters. Sometimes I also think about what these characters are doing now. So to have the opportunity to bring these characters back to the stage, I am creating with happiness and joy.

Q: Do you want to know what the world will be like a thousand years from now?

A: I don’t think much about it, so I only describe the world after Shu wakes up.

Q: Which of Yuki’s two children do you like best?

A: I like Ai especially when I am painting it, I am not trying to fool around, this is true.

Q: When describing Ai and Ren, what characteristics did the teacher bring into respectively from Yuki, Zero, and kaname?

A: Affectionate, straightforward, and a little perverted (laughs). I was aware of these when painting them. In addition, I think the environment in which one grows up will also affect the shaping and formation of a person. In terms of appearance, although the two children are a combination of their parents' characteristics, Ai's eyes and hair are a bit like the female version of kaname, and Ren's eyes are a bit like the fusion of Zero and Yuki's eyes.

Q: In " Vampire Knight Memories", do these stories that have been specially selected and replenished have special meaning to you?

A: There are episodes that are absolutely indispensable, and there are also situations where they are added because they match the timeline. There are also situations where a certain character is very suitable to be the main focus of a certain episode and is selected. There are also stories that come out of thinking about many aspects. few.

Q: Have you ever thought about creating a story featuring other characters from " Vampire Knight "?

A: Yes, I once said that I have thought about creating a story with other supporting characters as the protagonists, and I have also thought about telling the story from kaname's point of view before Yuki and others were born.

Q: How do you feel about coming to Taiwan to hold a signing event again after so many years?

A: I thought it was a lot of fun when I came to Taiwan in 2011. I had always planned to travel to Taiwan again. But when I couldn’t make the trip due to many reasons, I was fortunate enough to be invited to Taiwan again to hold an autograph session. I was really happy and excited. What I didn’t feel last time was that when I was moving in the car last night, I had a feeling that I was in Tokyo or Sapporo! I feel that the street scene is very similar to Japan, and it feels quite close.

Q: Finally, do you want to say something to the readers who continue to support " Vampire Knight "?

A: Readers have spent a precious part of their lives and continued to read this work until now. I am really grateful. It makes me even more happy to know that readers in Taiwan have been paying attention to the subsequent stories. And this is a work that fortunately has people willing to watch it so it can continue. I will also try my best to make everyone feel "I'm glad I watched this work"!

In Comic-con 2006 Nobuhiro Watsuki was a guest and was interviewed - As for Watsuki, he answered a wide range of questions. He talked about his inspirations and what made his decision to become a manga creator easier, such as a childhood appreciation of Doraemon and his apprenticeship with the manga creator Takeshi Obata, best known in the US for his work on the title Death Note. When pressed for his favorite character, besides the obvious selection of Kenshin himself, Shishio was a close second. People kept on wanting to talk about the anime, especially Watsuki’s involvement in it, not only of the Rurouni Kenshin series but the one of his most recent series Buso Renkin that has yet to be shown on Japanese television. They did have a clip of it there and showed it. Regarding his involvement with the anime, he checks the scripts and the character designs, and is involved with the selection of the voice actors. have you seen the cover where yuuki is in a purple dress and a purple bow sitting on a chair with her legs spread between both men who are sitting down but because of her dress, it's hard to notice unless we pay attention and hino has edited it for the volume it seems. Check out the unedited version. One leg is over zero's shoulder and zero's holding her leg and kaname is resting on the other leg and yuuki's hand is going there... like she's masturbating. It has a sexual meaning. All three are smiling. I think it was in volume 9. I guess it's supposed to be a tease cover but this reinforces my belief that yuuki just wanted to fuck them both. I wondered if Hino Matsuri's feeling about this love triangle is as light hearted as the cover because when we read the story, there's a lot of crying.

I just saw the cover after you mentioned, it does appear that way that she is masturbating. I mean who wouldn't when two hottest guys are after you . That I totally agree that she wanted to fuck them both and I am at a state of mind where I wouldn't have mind , I mean not many fans would have minded at least i wouldn't have if it truly ended that way but unfortunately it didn't, I mean she did get to be with both but it was not done properly , both guys should have gotten good amount of time with her , my kaname got less time .Sometimes I just feel like a she was just a horny teenager who wanted both guys , and if she didn't have one she would feel sad and would want them . I wish Hino just ended it the threesome way... Cause one would always be left alone , so all of them would have just gotten together, there would be no need for this much tragedy, but Hino had to write a tragedy 😅 , since she talked about it in one of her interview that she wanted to write a tragedy instead of comedy but I think she kind of failed a little at conveying all the emotions , since the ending felt way too rushed . And vampire knight was best in arc 1 , maybe it's like Hino just wanted to include a love triangle as it is a very popular trope , where a seemingly normal girl gets everything, but I don't think her feelings were light hearted cause like vampire knight world has a lot of potential, still hino focused most of the manga on love triangle. Even now she hasn't learned , and it's mostly fan service , like six chapters are left and still manga is focused heavily on the fact that zero is endlessly greedy for Yuki , and to keep yumes hope , hino pre released some spoilers , to keep her yume side of the fan base .

Matsuri Hino: Guten Tag, ich bin Matsuri Hino. Konnichiwa. Carlsen: Sie sind jetzt zum ersten Mal in Deutschland. Wie gefällt es ihnen hier? Matsuri Hino: Ich bin zum ersten Mal in Deutschland. Mir gefällt es hier. Die Stadt und die Häuser sind sehr schön. Ich fühle mich sehr bequem. Ich war in einigen Buchhandlungen, die haben mir sehr gefallen. Carlsen: Wie sind sie ursprünglich Mangaka geworden. Wie hat sich das ergeben? Matsuri Hino: Ich habe einen Wettbewerb von Hakusensha mitgemacht und habe einen Preis bekommen und da hat das angefangen. Carlsen: Sie leben auf Hokkaido. Beeinflusst das die Arbeit mit dem Verlag? Matsuri Hino: Mit dem Redakteur habe ich kein Problem. Alles wird telefonisch erledigt. Manchmal habe ich Probleme wegen des Abgabetermins.  Carlsen: Dann ist es manchmal gut in Hokaido zu leben? Matsuri Hino: Für einen Mangaka ist es furchtbar den Termin nicht einhalten zu können. Carlsen: Wie sieht ein normaler Arbeitstag aus, wenn es das gibt? Matsuri Hino: Seit ungefähr drei Jahren ist es so, dass ich abgesehen von der Zeit in der ich in der Wanne liege, etwas esse oder schlafe, muss ich immer an die Arbeit denken. Carlsen: Ist es immer die gleiche Arbeit oder ist es unterschiedlich? Matsuri Hino: Für mich ist nur einfach wichtig den Abgabetermin einzuhalten. Carlsen: Ist es so, dass sie dann in der Badewanne aufspringen, um die Idee aufzuschreiben? Matsuri Hino: Natürlich kann man nicht aufschreiben in der Badewanne, wagen dem Papier. Ich versuche es im Kopf zu behalten und hinterher aufzuschreiben. Carlsen: Woran denkt man beim Arbeiten? Sind das dann Bilder im Kopf? Matsuri Hino: Während ich Vorzeichnungen mache, habe ich ab und an das Problem, dass ich mit meiner Story nicht weiter komme. Da verlier ich das Selbstvertrauen, aber wenn ich an meine Fans denke kommt es wieder. Carlsen: Gibt es sonst noch Einflüsse? Musik zum Beispiel? Matsuri Hino: Ja, es gibt Einflüsse. Musik von Vampire Knight zum Beispiel. Ich höre ansonsten verschieden Musikrichtungen, aber es ist so, dass ich ein Lied immer wieder höre. Wenn es ein Lied gibt, dann höre ich es 24 Stunden lang, das kann auch passieren. Manchmal reicht auch nur ein Ton oder ein Geräusch... [Note: z.B. Fernseher] Carlsen: Wenn sie sich jetzt noch einmal einen Job aussuchen könnten, welcher wäre das? Matsuri Hino: Ehrlich gesagt, habe ich nach dem Abschluss an meiner Uni einige Versprechen bekommen. Bei einer Möbelfirma oder einer Lebensversicherung. Zu dieser Zeit war es sicher, dass ich in einer Firma komme, aber der Wunsch war stärker Mangaka zu werden. Carlsen: Wenn sie sich entscheiden müssten zwischen Möbelfirma und Lebensversicherung, wofür würden sie sich heute entscheiden? Matsuri Hino: Ich könnte das nicht auswählen, deswegen bin ich Mangaka. Auch wenn ich jetzt kein Mangaka geworden wäre, wollte ich etwas werden, wo ich Sachen herstelle. Carlsen: Sie lesen auch privat Manga. Welches wäre ihr Lieblingsmanga oder Anime? Matsuri Hino: Ich habe zwar viele, aber...Was das Shonen Manga angeht One Piece. Was das Shojo Manga betrifft, lese ich einen Manga aus der LaLa, das heißt Ouran High School Host Club. Carlsen: Sie sind großer Fan von amerikanischen Filmen. Gibt es da auch Einflüsse auf ihre Arbeit? Matsuri Hino: Harry Potter und Pirates of the Caribbean Carlsen: Gibt es Einflüsse für die Arbeit? Matsuri Hino: Insofern, dass ich von Unterhaltung etwas mitbekomme [Note: aber nicht, dass es in der Story vorkommt]. Carlsen: In einem früheren Interview haben sie erzählt, dass sie von alten japanischen Märchen und Geschichten begeistert sind, können sie eines nennen? Matsuri Hino: Die Werke, die ich schon gelesen habe... aber ich finde die Werke ziemlich simpel gemacht, so dass man selbst seine Fantasie macht. Carlsen: Gibt es für ihre Arbeit noch andere Einflüsse? Matsuri Hino: Der Autor von One Piece und Kasehiro, herr Shinada Kasihiko kann ich nennen. Carlsen: Was ist für sie das faszinierende am Beruf der Mangaka? Matsuri Hino: Es ist für mich ein großer Reiz, dass man sich in einer Welt befinden kann, mit der man mit seiner Fantasie arbeiten kann. Dass ich mich jeden Tag meiner Welt hingeben, deswegen kann es passieren, dass ich die Realität vergesse. Deswegen kann es passieren, dass ich mich von der Gesellschaft ausgeschlossen fühle. Ich muss jeden Tag arbeiten, egal, wie ich mich fühle. Carlsen: Wie ist das Gefühl, wenn man auf solche Messen eingeladen wird? Matsuri Hino: Ich freue mich sehr, wenn ich die Fans sehe. Carlsen: Wie gefällt ihnen die Leipziger Messe? Matsuri Hino: Ich habe ein bisschen Spaziergang gemacht in der Halle. Mein Erster Eindruck ist, dass so viele Menschen da sind, in der Halle. Ich habe gespürt, dass so viel Interesse da ist. Carlsen: Hätten sie sich vorstellen können, dass es so ein Erfolg wird [Vampire Knight]? Matsuri Hino: Das war gar nicht zu glauben, dass es so ein Erfolg ist. Carlsen: Wie merken sie das? Bekommen sie Fanpost? Matsuri Hino: Eigentlich ist das für mich egal, ob ein Werk Erfolg hat oder nicht. Für mich ist es viel wichtiger, dass es gefällt. Wenn ich mir vorstelle, während ich arbeite, dass jemand mein Werk genießt, dann kann ich entspannt arbeiten. Carlsen: Warum haben sie sich gerade Vampire ausgesucht? Matsuri Hino: Ich habe zum Beispiel auch Magie als Thema ausgewählt. Vampire war eines der beliebtesten Themas. Carlsen: Warum sind Vampire so beliebt? Was ist die besondere Faszination an Vampiren? Matsuri Hino: Es ist so, dass man allgemeine Vorstellungen von Vampire hat. Aber meine Vorstellung weicht von der normalen ab. Dazu habe ich menschliche und tierische Teile kombiniert. Vernunft und Intelligenz, wie die Menschen und der Instinkt, wie bei Tieren. Carlsen: Seit Vampire Knight haben sie viel zu tun. Wird das Leben sehr stark davon beeinflusst oder finden sie noch Freizeit? Matsuri Hino: Im Vergleich zu Früher, habe ich viel weniger Freizeit. Ich habe wenig Zeit zum Shoppen. [Note: Sie hat gesagt, dass sie im Internet oder Katalogen bestellt.] Carlsen: Welcher Charakter ist ihnen am meisten ans Herz gewachsen? Matsuri Hino: Eine schwierige Frage... Ich denke eigentlich immer wieder daran, wie sich die Charakter entwickeln. Carlsen: Wissen sie schon wie sich die Story in einem Jahr entwickeln wird? Matsuri Hino: Ja Carlsen: Können sie etwas darüber erzählen? Matsuri Hino: Es ist ein Geheimnis. Carlsen: Werden noch wichtige Figuren eingeführt oder bleibt es bei den Figuren? Matsuri Hino: Da kommt irgendwann ein neuer Charakter, der von der japanischen Leserschaft entwickelt wurde. Carlsen: Wie gehen sie vor, wenn sie eine Geschichte entwickeln? Matsuri Hino: Durch Charakter entwickle ich die Story. Die Story kann sich auch durch banale Aussagen entwickeln. Davon gehen ich aus. Wenn ich wirklich keine Story entwickeln kann, dann lege ich ein weißes Papier vor mich und warte bis die Story kommt. Carlsen: Gibt es da so einen bestimmten Moment in Vampire Knight [ab dem sie wussten, wie die Story verlaufen wird]? Matsuri Hino: An der Stelle, wo Zero [die Waffe] auf einem Sch��ler [=Aidou] richtet. Das ist eine wichtige Szene. Von da an, wusste ich, wie es weiter gehen würde. Carlsen: Haben sie schon eine andere Story im Kopf? Können sie uns vielleicht sage, worum es geht? Matsuri Hino: Ich konzentriere mich auf Vampire Knight. Sonst haben ich nicht viel vor. Carlsen: Welche Frage bekommen sie am häufigsten gestellt?/ What is the most ask question? Matsuri Hino: Welchen von beiden Yuki nimmt. Zero oder Kaname. Carlsen: Und? Welchen? Matsuri Hino: Es ist ein Geheimnis.  Carlsen:  Haben sie nach der Messe noch Zeit, sich in Deutschland umzuschauen? Matsuri Hino: Nach der Messe fahre ich nach Hamburg, [Kreistag], Bremen und Kassel. Carlsen:  Zum Abschluss des Gesprächs... Haben sie vielleicht noch einen Botschaft an ihre deutschen Fans? Matsuri Hino: Ja, ich freue mich sehr, dass ich jetzt so viele deutsche Fans sehe und sehen kann. Ich werde mir Mühe geben Vampire Knight so interessant, wie möglich zu gestalten.

Hi Nancy. I am very curious as to when you will be posting the interview with Matsuri Hino. I know that you had said you would post it around the time that the first volume of Vampire Knight Memories in English was released. So I am wondering if you still plan on posting the interview. Thank you so much :) BTW I just purchased the first volume of VKM in digital form from google play because I just couldn't wait to receive my paperback version from amazon which is due to arrive tomorrow!!!

I still plan on posting it. I’ve got to get through some other manuscripts first, but it’s on my list.

I will be glad when they release the interview. I have been looking forward to it as well. I know it will be about vk but I doubt it will reveal anything about the plot or direction of vkm. If it did there would be no sense in the series if Hino was to give away the plot and direction of this follow up series. That being said I still look forward to reading the interview!

When the anime finished production, Hino had an interview and answered some questions.

Why is the story a tragic love?

Hino said that she did not want a comedic story. I wanted to write a tragic love story, but I thought it would be difficult to draw it, and it's the story I had been thinking about for a long time, so I wanted a story to be tragic,

She said : it's would be like Beauty and the Beast and Romeo and Juliet.

Beauty and the Beast will have a happy ending (Zeki)

As for Romeo and Juliet, they will have a tragic love (Yume)

Part One

Interviewer: ――樋野先生は、小さな頃から絵やまんがを描くのがお好きだったのですか? Matsuri Hino: 絵に限らず、何でもモノをつくることが好きだったんです。最初にまんが形式で描いたのは6年生の時。友人の影響でした。中3くらいで、初めて丸ペンやトーンを使ってみたのですが、うまくいかなくてペン入れ嫌いになりました…。まんがの描き方の本とか見れば良かったのに自分…(笑)。 Interviewer: ――多感な青春時代を過ごされたのですね(笑)。そんな先生がまんが家になろうと思ったきっかけは、どんなことだったのでしょう。 Matsuri Hino: 中学時代の後半、転校先で出逢った友人たちに、同人誌の世界へと誘われて…。高校時代でまんが家に憧れるようになって、大学卒業の時には就職先を選ぶつもりで集中的に投稿しました。好きなことを仕事にできたら、それがいちばんだと思って。その時は…。 Interviewer: ――「その時は」とおっしゃるのが気になるのですが…(笑)。もし、まんが家になっていなかったら、どんな職業を選ばれていたと思いますか? Interviewer: ――先生は、『めるぷり』のテーマをずっとあたためられていたそうですね。着想のきっかけはどんなことだったのですか? Matsuri Hino: 子どもの頃って、みんな魔女っ娘(こ)に憧れたりしますよね。そしてまんが家になれた時、あっと思ったんですよ。自分は魔女っ娘にはなれない(そりゃそうだ)けど、まんがで魔女っ娘を描けばいいんだって。まあ、その後『とらわれの身の上』を描いてる間は忘れていたんですけどね。それである日、何を描いてもいいよ、と編集さんに言われた時に、すかさず「魔女っ娘少年(…あれ?)が描きたいです」と。 Interviewer: ――その「魔女っ娘少年」がアラムになったと(笑)。タイトルも、『めるぷり』とはとてもユニークですね。 Matsuri Hino: 「めるへん」と「プリンス」というキーワードは絶対入れたくて…。でもドイツ語と英語が混在するのはどうかと思って「めるへん☆ぷりんす」と全部ひらがなに。そうすると間のびしてインパクト薄なので、略して『めるぷり』。意味がわからないと言われたのをムキになって押した結果、「メルヘン☆プリンス」とサブタイトルが付くことになりました。よく『メルヘン☆プリンセス』と間違われておもしろいです。 Interviewer: ――「ぷり」は「ぷり」でも、全く違いますものね(笑)。では、『めるぷり』を描くにあたって、特に気をつけていることはありますか? Matsuri Hino: いちばん気をつけているのは、『めるぷり』はかわいく、楽しく、そして愛理(あいり)目線で王子(プリンス)を美味しく味わうことですね。あと、この前『WANTED』(「LaLaDX」2003年9月号に掲載)を描いたとき、『めるぷり』が自分の他の作品に比べて何が違うかわかったんです。『めるぷり』は指先や毛先まで気をつけて描いてるなあ(確認しないでくださいね)と。それを象徴するのがアラムの髪の毛のハネ具合…あの角度…長さ…ああああ(笑)。 Interviewer: ――こだわって描いていらっしゃるからこそのご苦労ですね(笑)。七芒星(ななぼうせい)のモチーフにもこだわられたそうですが…。 Matsuri Hino: 五芒星や六芒星はよく見かけるので、こだわる部分はちゃんとこだわりたかったんです。八芒星や九芒星も考えたのですが、七芒星がギリギリ星に見えるかな…と。 Interviewer: ――なるほど…。ストーリーの方では、「魔法の国からやってきた王子」など、ロマンティックな設定がいっぱいですね。 Matsuri Hino: 魔法がテーマのまんがは結構あるので、あえて「ベタ」な設定を使いまくろうと決めてます。昔ながらの童話(メルヘン)は『めるぷり』の辞書ですね。これからも、女の子の中に眠る乙女心を起こすつもりで、ロマンティックくささをふりまきます。 Interviewer: ――もう、乙女心はずっとドキドキしっぱなしですよ！ 愛理にはロマンティストな一面がありますが、先生ご自身にも共通する部分があったりしますか? Matsuri Hino: 最初はないと思っていましたが、すみません…ありました(恥)。 Interviewer: ――ロマンティストの先生だからこそ、数々の素敵なエピソードが生まれるのですね(笑)。

Part Three

Interviewer: ――先生のカラーイラストは、本当に魅力的ですが、描く時に心がけていることはありますか? Matsuri Hino: 描くたびに、これまでやらなかった色づかいをしようと思っています。でも、どうしても落ち着いた色が好きなので…。とにかく、絵がメリハリなく暗く沈むことのないように気をつけています。 Interviewer: ――キャラクターたちのファッションも毎回かわいいですよね。 Matsuri Hino: 「ViVi」「Ray」「gapPRESS」はよくチェックします。あとは自分の好みと、キャラの設定に合わせて。 Interviewer: ――『めるぷり』は、ストーリーが快調に進んでいて、先生がとても楽しんで描かれているのが伝わってきます。お仕事中の気分を盛り上げるためのBGMなどはありますか? Matsuri Hino: ざわざわざわ…と遠くで雑音が聞こえる程度が一番集中できるので、BGMはTVかも…。ネームを描く直前には、ディズニーアニメなどを観て盛り上がったりもします。 Interviewer: ――先生の作風にお似合いですね！ ところで、『めるぷり』にはアラムをはじめ、かっこいい男の子ばかり登場しますが、先生なら誰を恋人にしたいですか? Matsuri Hino: ジェイルです!! Interviewer: ――アラムではないのが意外ですね(笑)。先生ご自身がもし魔法を使えたら、どんなことをしたいですか? Matsuri Hino: 魔法学校に行きたいです。 Interviewer: ――もしや、あの「彼」とクラスメイトに…!?(笑)

Part Four 

Interviewer: ――前作『とらわれの身の上』は、現在ストーリーが一段落していますが、恵(めぐみ)と鈴花(すずか)の恋の行方はどうなりそうですか? Matsuri Hino: 呪いが解(と)けたからこそ、恵は鈴花の真の下僕としてパワーアップします。鈴花も女王様ごっこを楽しむ余裕が出来てほしいですねー。 Interviewer: ――これまでもパワフルでしたが、さらにパワーアップするのですね(笑)。先生は長編だけでなく、魅力的な短編も描かれていますが、それぞれ、ストーリーはどのようにして生まれたのでしょうか。 　 Matsuri Hino: 『WANTED』だけは特別で、デビューの時からストーリーをあたためていました。他は、『めるぷり』もそうなのですが、「○○が描きたい」をきっかけにしてストーリーが生まれます。『春は桜』(「ララ」2002年5月号に掲載)なら「明治ものでうつけ男が描きたい」とか。 Interviewer: ――なるほど、何かを描きたい！ という強い気持ちが、作品をつくる原動力になっているのですね。

Interviewer: ――最近、プライベートでいちばんハマっているのはどんなことですか? Matsuri Hino: テニスやってます。いちばん好きなスポーツなんです。 Interviewer: ――それは健康的！ くれぐれも、お体を大切になさってくださいね。では来年、挑戦してみたいことはありますか? Interviewer: ――いま、ハマっているモノ・コトなどはありますか。 Matsuri Hino: いま…? うーんうーん…新居のトイレのコーディネートとごっついアイアン小物。それと『ぴちぴちピッチ』のボーカルコレクション、好き過ぎて聴き過ぎてます。乙女心的にツボです。 Interviewer: ――お仕事中のBGMにすると、ストーリーがどんどん浮かんできそうですね(笑)。それでは、これからプライベートで挑戦してみたいことはありますか？ Matsuri Hino: テニスの振り替えレッスン消化!! Interviewer: ――デビューの頃から構想を温められていたという『WANTED』、1月に発売されたコミックスも読者の皆さんから大反響でしたが、この話が生まれたきっかけを教えて頂けないでしょうか。 　 Matsuri Hino: 読者の皆さんに楽しんでいただけたことが嬉しいです！ 『WANTED』を描く時はいつも、自分自身が冒険に出て行くようなワクワクする気持ちでいるので、なんだか特別です。デビューした頃から温めていたものは、構想なんて立派なものではないんですけどね(笑)。昔から「吸血鬼」と同じくらい「海賊」が好きで、性悪船長とヒロインの設定の土台はだいたい出来ていました。 Interviewer: ――ふたりの設定が、読者の皆さんの乙女心を刺激しまくっていたようですよ！ それにしても、先生の作品はたくさんの魅力的な美形男性が登場していますね。 Matsuri Hino: 美形…必死に美形(汗)になるように描いています。油断するとすぐ変な風になるので(泣)。私個人はプーさん系か、どこか男くさい人が好きなんですけど…。 Interviewer: ――それでは、ご自分のキャラクターから恋人を選ぶとしたら、いかがでしょうか? Interviewer: ――少女時代の樋野先生は、どんなお子さんだったのでしょうか? 『めるぷり』の愛理のように、想像に胸をときめかすような機会は多かったのでしょうか? 　 Matsuri Hino:  想像たくましい悪ガキでした。ときめく想像…は記憶に無いですけど、夢見がちなところはありました。あ、※『暴れん坊将軍』の新さんにときめいてましたね、ずっと(笑)。 ※「マツケン」こと松平 健氏が演じる八代将軍徳川吉宗。江戸市中では身分を隠して「徳田新之助」と名乗っていたことから。 Interviewer: ――ときめきの原点は白馬に乗った「お殿様」だったのですね(笑)。まんがを描き始められたのはいつ頃でしょうか? Matsuri Hino: 小学6年生の頃に友達の影響で、初めてまんが形式で物語を考えました。未完ですけど。下絵→ペン入れを知ったのは中学2年生の頃に、これも友達の影響で。影響されやすかったんですね…。まあ、もともと物作りが趣味みたいな子どもだったので。 Interviewer: ――初めて描いた作品はどのようなお話でしたか? 　 Matsuri Hino: オリジナルで原稿完成まで至ったのは“政治まんが”です。ウソみたいですがホントです。私利私欲のために消費税を3％から5％に引き上げようと企む悪～い政治家の話。起承転結は無しでした。この頃から“おじ様好き”だったんです(笑)。 Interviewer: ――子どもの頃から社会派の作品を生み出されていたのですね！ まんが家を目指すようになったのはその頃からでしょうか? 　 Matsuri Hino: なんとなく目指したいような気持ちはありましたが、現実に目標にしようとはあまり思いませんでした。現に就職活動してましたし。でもこれが最終的には全部不採用で…(ふふふ…)追い詰められた私は、この道に進むしかない！ となった次第です。 Interviewer: ――それはもしや「まんが家になれ！」という天の声だったのかも知れませんね(笑)。樋野先生のイラストは描線や色の美しさがとても魅力的ですが、学生時代からイラストの勉強をされていたのでしょうか? 　 Matsuri Hino: ありがとうございます。きれいな絵を目指しているので、ほめられると嬉しいです。勉強…といっても趣味の範囲の独学です。あと、美術の授業でやったことはほぼ活かせてます。ここ最近は色とか構図の視覚効果を意識することもありますけど、ままならないですね(苦笑)。 Interviewer: ――目標とされている画家・まんが家の先生はいらっしゃいますか? Matsuri Hino:いっぱいいすぎて。

Interviewer: ――いま、「ララ」で超人気の『ヴァンパイア騎士（ナイト）』を描くことになったきっかけは、どのようなことだったのでしょうか? 　 Matsuri Hino: 連載を始める一年くらい前からぼんやり考え始めていたんですけど、なかなかまとまらず苦労していました。学園を舞台にしたい、ということだけは決めていて、その他に読み切りで悲恋ものの吸血鬼まんがを描きたいと思っていて。担当様のススメで「学園」と「吸血鬼」を一緒にやっちゃえ！ ということに。毎月吸血鬼さんたちを描けて、「吸血鬼」ファンの私は幸せです☆ Interviewer: ――このお話を描くに当たって、数多くの「吸血鬼」に関する資料をご覧になったかと思いますが、資料集めでのご苦労やエピソードはありますか。 　 Matsuri Hino: 私の中の「吸血鬼」像は、尊敬する菊地秀行大先生による影響と、昔からジャンルにこだわらず観まくってきた吸血鬼映画と聞きかじり(え?)でベースが出来上がっていて…。実は今回はまだ吸血鬼関連の資料集めが追いついていないのですけど、なんとか頑張ってます(汗)。 Interviewer: ――デイ・ナイト両クラスの制服や黒主学園の校章・校舎など、画面内のすべてがとても美しくデザインされていますが、これらの着想はどのようなところから得られたのでしょうか。 Matsuri Hino: あわわ…あ、ありがとうございます。オーソドックスな吸血鬼といえばゴシック…ゴシックぽさって何なの！?(滝汗)…という、私が訳のかわらないまま体当たりしていったものたちをほめてくださり…恐縮です。もっと勉強しないといけないんですよ本当は…。制服デザインは気に入ってます。ライン上にあるトゲトゲが痛そうだけど、私も普通科女子のを着たい～！ Interviewer: ――以前「ララ」本誌で『ヴァンパイア騎士』は“こだわりだらけ”の作品、とおっしゃっていましたが、注目のこだわりポイントを教えて頂けないでしょうか? 　 Matsuri Hino: 理事長のメガネにはアホコレクションが存在します(く、くだらない…(汗))。重要なこだわりポイントは秘密です☆ネタバレになっちゃいます。 Interviewer: ――気になりますね～。今後の展開に注目します。それではキャラクターの性格や設定を考えていく上で、特に留意されていることはありますか? Matsuri Hino: 担当様のアドバイスですが、各キャラに「リング・ネーム」を考えるといいみたいです。 Interviewer: ――これは重要な手がかりなのかもしれませんね！ ますます目が離せない『ヴァンパイア騎士』、まだまだ謎に包まれた部分も多いのですが、今後の展開を少しだけ教えていただけないでしょうか? Matsuri Hino: ナイト・クラスの各キャラが、これからはどんどん露出してくると思います。「謎」とか設定が少しずつ明かされていきますが、一方で新たな謎も浮かび上がってくるかも…！? ――とにか���、読者の皆様を飽きさせないような展開を目指しますっ！ そして優姫（ゆうき）・零（ゼロ）・枢（かなめ）の3人の関係を生温かく見守っていってください…。
