Royal Challengers Bengaluru secured their spot in the IPL 2024 playoffs by defeating Chennai Super Kings. They needed to win their last league game for a top-four finish and achieved it with a 27-run victory at M Chinnaswamy Stadium. However, after the game, there was some criticism of RCB's players for celebrating too much and not shaking hands with CSK's captain, MS Dhoni, who walked off the pitch without shaking hands. What was MS Dhoni's reaction post-match? Videos on social media showed Dhoni waiting for the RCB players to shake hands, but they were busy celebrating. Eventually, Dhoni walked away to the dressing room without shaking hands. Later, Virat Kohli followed him inside to talk to him. What did Michael Vaughan comment about the situation on Cricbuzz?
Michael Vaughan criticized RCB players for not taking a moment to shake hands with Dhoni. He said although RCB had a lot of support and were excited about making it to the playoffs, they should not be a team everyone dislikes. According to Vaughan, they should have shown more sportsmanship. What did Harsha Bhogle say during the discussion? Harsha Bhogle stressed the importance of shaking hands after a match, regardless of the occasion. He mentioned that even if a team wins a major game like a World Cup final, they should still take time to shake hands with the opposition as a sign that the competitive spirit is over and to respect the opponents. What additional point did Michael Vaughan make about Dhoni possibly retiring? Vaughan pointed out that this match might have been Dhoni's last in IPL, and RCB players might regret not showing him the respect of shaking hands first. He suggested that they should have paused their celebrations to shake Dhoni's hand, acknowledging his legendary status, before continuing their celebrations. What overall message did the experts try to convey? The experts emphasized the importance of sportsmanship in cricket. They conveyed that while celebrating victories is natural, players should always show respect to their opponents by shaking hands, especially when dealing with iconic players like MS Dhoni. This act symbolizes the end of on-field rivalry and acknowledges mutual respect. The victorious RCB, led by Faf du Plessis, clinched a crucial win by 27 runs, sparking jubilant celebrations among players and fans at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. However, the post-match euphoria hit a controversial note when videos surfaced showing MS Dhoni, the iconic Chennai Super Kings' captain, walking off the pitch without shaking hands with RCB players. Dhoni reportedly waited for the RCB players, who were too busy celebrating, before heading back to the dressing room. RCB’s Virat Kohli was seen following Dhoni inside to talk to him. Cricket experts have weighed in on the incident. Michael Vaughan, former England captain, criticized RCB players during a Cricbuzz discussion, stating, “They have a lot of support, but they sometimes overdo it. Celebrations are fine, but sportsmanship is crucial.” Harsha Bhogle, a renowned commentator, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of tradition. "Win your game, celebrate later, but first, shake hands. It's a sign of mutual respect," Bhogle said. This incident has sparked a debate within today's current affairs, with experts pondering whether the RCB’s actions might be seen as poor sportsmanship, especially if this winds up being Dhoni's last IPL game. Vaughan added, "If this was Dhoni's last match, those players might regret not shaking his hand first." The cricket community continues to discuss the significance of such gestures in maintaining the spirit of the game amidst high-stakes competitions.
As the playoffs approach, all eyes remain on how teams balance their competitive fervor with the cherished traditions of sportsmanship. [ad_1]

Renowned cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle believes that it was an 'open secret' that Hardik Pandya was going to replace Rohit Sharma as the Mumbai Indians skipper. The Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise announced the decision ahead of the 2024 season after Hardik completed a sensational move from Gujarat Titans. Bhogle took to social media to react to the MI decision and said that although this is a move forward for the team, Hardik will face a tough challenge to keep up with the ambition of the side."That Hardik Pandya would be captain of @mipaltan was an open secret. Rohit Sharma can lay claim to being, with MS Dhoni, the finest leader in the #IPL. It may not be a bad idea to let him relax and have fun because the IPL can take a lot out of you and he will have led India in 5 tests a little before that. While this is a move keeping in mind the next few years, it will be a huge challenge for Hardik given the number of stars in the side and the ambition of the franchise. It makes #MumbaiIndians the team to watch this year," he posted on X (formerly known as Twitter). That Hardik Pandya would be captain of @mipaltan was an open secret. Harsha Bhogle once famously mentioned that cricket education is complete, only if you have played in the East. Previously, cricketers from all over the world would consider themselves "complete" only when they would have played the county in England. Then, came the IPL, and changed the narrative of how cricket is played, celebrated and watched.
I believe this analogy now extends to the global "Transactions" practice, where the fund-managers from the West cannot afford to overlook what the eastern markets have to offer. If you are a fund in the West, the thesis is not well-rounded, until you have the ability to evaluate the promise of the East.
The demographic dividend of the East translates to the reality of a voluminous market, and a larger canvas of solving for tangible challenges. This, coupled with a burgeoning middle class, enhancement of investee sophistication, intensification of internet infrastructure, and scaling-through-tech playbook, makes the East the market for the present and future, when viewed from a Venture Capital/Private Equity lens.
The West-East corridor is ripe open for exploitation. I would love to see a VC Principal from Silicon Valley evaluating an Agritech player in the hinterlands of India, and learning how India transacts.
Batting on Indian pitches, both in cricket and in business, is no longer an option. It is a must-have skill to stay relevant.
