If Trial 2 was the other way around, with Saiki killing Retsuko and Kaidou surviving in his place, how do you think things might have changed?
Ah yes, Saiki the furry killer (/j)
Kaidou… won’t be doing so hot proceeding his execution. Just like how Saiki was, but instead of never wanting to leave his room, I think Kaidou would want to leave eventually, but is too afraid and grief stricken to really move.
Latte, arguably the closest to Kaidou at this point, would definitely appear at his door every meal opportunity, leaving something nice by his door, talking to him about things, and leaving to give him time on his own to take the food into his room. Hell, sometimes she’ll just appear to gives more words of comfort, perhaps with Mai in tow if the two are together.
I think, at one point, encouraged by Latte’s words, Kaidou would appear in the restaurant one morning. Everyone is startled, not just because he’s finally there, but how he looks. No more bandages. His blazer is worn normally. He’s even tucked in his shirt to hide his hand-made tears in the seams. Kaidou finds it hard to remain this way, even a little embarrassed not in the comfort of his usual Jet Black Wings get up, but he knows if he’s going to face the reality of Saiki’s death, he needs to accept the reality of his own problems, too.
During the motive, I don’t think any partners would change. In that case, Hayasaka spends some time building up a small fatherly bond with Kaidou instead. I’d like to think he starts understanding why Latte is so protective over him, especially as he gains a newfound respect for Kaidou abandoning his fantasy persona, even if it is tricky at first. It’d also be funny if Kaidou got roped into joining the investigation gang, still out here suggesting silly ideas at first, but then claiming he wants to try his hardest to really help L and the others.
I don’t think Kaidou would have too much influence to change the chapter 3 case. Yuri might consider him a potential target at first due to his vulnerability, but since he’s always being coddled by his separate parents (tm), she doesn’t see the point. I do think it would be harder to get Latte on her own however, as she’d have both Mai and Kaidou around to probably convince her to keep safe.
Survivability wise, Kaidou could potentially make it. Or… maybe I’m evil and he would end up a victim somewhere anyhow, despite all the efforts he tried to overcome. I can’t really talk about any further plot aspects too much since we’re only at the end of chapter 4 currently lol
