Reading Signs and Symbols in Tawas
Today in our Hilot Online Training we have talked about signs and symbols in reading tawas. And as I look back to our memories posted at Facebook, here what i found.
Tumblr media
Day is light; night for darkness; moon calls the tide; and clouds for the rain; smoke rise to signal a fire; and a flower bloom to signal a tree bearing fruit. Strong winds, thunder and lightning if there is a storm.

today, i took my sweet time.
i lingered in bed and had a hearty breakfast of bagnet, itlog, sinangag and brewed coffee.
then i went back to bed to sleep some more only to be awakened by the gentle winds of September.
speaking of september, i was told that this was the “summer” season in Pagudpud. no wonder, it was warm and windy. just perfect for those long boring afternoon under the sun...
i read 4 chapters of a book but then I went for a “hilot” by the manang referred by the resort.
“amen” was all i heard from the inaudible prayers the manghihilot uttered as she begin to gently rubbed my head with coconut oil. the old lady despite her frail body frame can manhandle me in one sitting: stretching sore muscles, breathing and blowing over my head to ward off “balis” (whatever that is) and pressing and soothing my back to release the accumulated “lamig” in my body. i really don’t have any idea how traditional massage goes but i wanted that moment of relaxation to last.
the one hour and a half session ended with the resort staff offering me merienda of biko and sago’t gulaman. i offered manang a share of my fare but she dismissed it saying it will ruin her “dyeta” - anyways, i gave her a generous tip which made her all happy as this will add more funds to her past time of tong its.
“bukas ulet” i asked her for an encore.
Tumblr media
it was nearing five in the afternoon when i decided to drive to a short distance to Patapat, this stretch of a bridge facing the China sea. i was told in the evening the sea glitters with pins of lights coming from boats coming either from local fishermen or chinese nationals ferrying poached bike parts to be sold in Laoag.
i should be feeling lonely at having spent Thursday and Friday by my lonesome but i wasn’t feeling any of those. matter of fact, i seem to enjoy the solitude.
an sms from the adorable one came. “magkaka lagnat ata ako” - i did not reply. i mean, you are a doctor. you know what to do best. instead, i made a quick call to tell him that i am on “errands” - well, i wasn’t lying. i was on an errand to fix myself.
i decided to go back to the resort but made a pit stop at this store near the bridge for some malrboros and coke zero. although i wasn’t feeling hungry, the smell of fresh bagnet frying, wafted in the air was enough reason for me to get a seat and ordered a plateful of this sinful treat with steamed rice and soda...
minsan lang naman ako kumain ng bagnet, i justified.
in a perfect world, this should be life. you work some, then find days like these:
of longs drives and Marvin Gaye...
where a manghihilot heals you from body pains...
where afternoons are spent napping under a mango tree...
where long bridges you realize, connects Cagayan and Ilocos Norte
and early evenings, eating alone but feasting on good food
and finding yourself.

Healing with Plant Medicine: Makabuhay (Tinospora Crispa)
Healing with Plant Medicine: Makabuhay (Tinospora Crispa)
I start to cultivate Makabuhay Vine way back 2013 as i need it to make a charm to improve health and long life. Though this herb was commonly known to have an abortive properties, I still hold on to the meaning of it’s name which is makabuhay or the one that promotes life. As Manghihilot or Traditional Healer, we do not just work on manipulating the Physical Body of the person to treat them but…

What is a Hilot Massage?
Tumblr media
Hilot is an ayurvedic, old and primitive method of healing is an ancient Filipino art of massaging and healing. The technique which it uses is manipulation and massage. Here the basic thing is it is different from one practitioner to another and helps to rejuvenate internally. This massage technique depends upon the therapist on how much to massage and how much to manipulate the person. Many ayurvedic therapists use stories and music to call down the patient's mind. The manipulation part helps to keep our focus aligned and balanced. It helps in rejuvenating cell and cell division and helps to be energetic throughout.
History of Hilot massaging
The tradition of Hilot massaging traces back to the shamanic tradition where the same method was used to heal and motivate in the process. After modifications and changes with proper research and analysis, it helped to include many other methods and styles in the massaging system.
The types of the therapist in Hilot massaging
There are two types of the therapist in the case of the Hilot massaging technique and they are -
Magpapaanak these are the ones who take care of the new mothers. Their effective massage technique helps in the release of muscles and reduces pain.
ManghiHilot therapists are the ones who cure ligament, muscle and bone issues. Their effective pain releasing treatment helps to release pain in the most effective way.
It is always advised that we should maintain regularity in case of any massaging treatment. If regularity is maintained then only we get the proper ideal result.
Benefits of Hilot massage
Rejuvenate our skin for the better
Smoothes and helps to have the flexibility of massage
It rejuvenates the skin and makes it toned and stronger.
Helps us to combat doshas and chakras.
Enhances the blood circulation process and held to have a balanced skin tone
Balances the correct ph balance of the skin.
Enhances the beauty of the skin
Cleanses the skin for the best.
Relaxes and soothes our mind and body.
Cures many diseases
Cures fatal orthopaedic diseases and helps to be better.
Stimulates good energy in the body
Makes us feel better.
It stimulates muscle growth and maintains perfect elasticity.
Reduces stress
Calms mind and soul
The Kerala massage is proven to bring positive energy back.
It helps to have a positive balance in our body.
It provides a great relief
Clears skin and tightens muscles.
Cures sleep discord
Conclusion
The Hilot massage is one of the famous massage therapies which requires patience and strong regularity. A hand massaging system is a built-in muscle technique that helps to have greater blood circulation and enhances skin glow. But it scares the skin with an instrument. There are a huge number of massaging techniques and we need to choose the right one by visiting a therapist who can say which massage will work best for our skin. Hope this article has helped you in a positive way establishing and understanding the importance of massage in today's world. Experiencing does not harm when it comes to massaging and we can always experience this beauty of nature.

It was our usual day on May 18, 2024 when a Young Man ask me to a Hilot Treatment for his Father. And to my surprise, the young man brought his father on a wheel chair that could not walk on his own because he had stroke last November 2023. I assess the situation of the man whose name…

From 2018 I keep hearing of a word that they call as Hilot Lagatok which they claim to be part of Hilot Modality that cracks and pop bones where they derive the word lagatok as it has sound of popping. In massage therapy or Swedish Massage there is a manipulative stroke that is called tapotement which is a rapid and repeated striking of the side of the palms or cupped palm on the fleshy and…

Our first responder during the Time of Pandemic now becomes an Ordained Binabaylan through Hilot Daloy Course!

Even accepting patient for Hilot was restricted at that time which made us to have no means of generating income that will pay our bills in maintaining our Shrine so as our…
