KSI is the British YouTube star who is garnering attention by taking on rival vloggers in the boxing ring. In an interview with Business Insider, KSI said he would have studied computer science if he wasn't a YouTuber.
KSI is the popular British YouTuber who is taking on fellow vloggers in real-life boxing matches.
He's about to take on American YouTuber Logan Paul in a massive fight in Manchester, UK.
If he wasn't a YouTube superstar, he would have gone to university and studied computer science, he told Business Insider in an interview ahead of the match.
Once he's done fighting fellow YouTubers, he wants to fight a professional boxer.
KSI is one of the most famous people in the UK, though you wouldn't necessarily know it from the news channels.
He is the 25-year-old British YouTube star who became famous off the back of gaming videos, but he's reached new levels of fame by taking on rival vloggers in real-life boxing matches. His first bout was with fellow Brit Joe Weller, but his next is a much more ambitious match against controversial US YouTuber Logan Paul.
The match takes place in Manchester, UK on Saturday 25 August and could draw up to 21,000 attendees, and hundreds of thousands of viewers on YouTube.
You can read more about who KSI is and his history of YouTube boxing here, and more analysis about who will win the boxing match.
Business Insider travelled to Manchester to meet with KSI — real name Olajide "JJ" Olatunji — to talk about his path to fame, and his plans for a post-YouTube future.
The KSI of YouTube is pretty abrasive. He's known for making off-colour jokes about sex and women, and his pre-fight trash talk against Logan Paul hasn't exactly been sportsmanlike. When Business Insider meets him, however, he's surprisingly calm, collected, and polite, shaking hands and taking care to listen to questions.
Later in the day, the KSI persona would be back on show for the pre-match weigh-in with his opponent. KSI came on-stage wearing a mask of Chloe Bennett, Paul's actress girlfriend. Bennett is a sensitive topic, given KSI has made lewd remarks about her before.
Here's our full interview with him, lightly edited for clarity.
Q&A with YouTuber KSI:
Business Insider: What have you been up to over the last few days?
KSI/JJ: I don’t know, like, training. Doing pads, just the standard stuff. A lot of the training has been before this week, making sure I’m in the right mindset, and making sure we have fun and not worrying about winning or losing.
BI: How are you feeling about it?
KSI: Yeah yeah yeah, very good.
BI: Is Logan in the UK at the moment?
KSI: Yeah yeah, Logan’s in the UK.
BI: Are you hanging out?
KSI: No. [Laughs]. No!
BI: Maybe you guys are friends behind the scenes, I don’t know.
KSI: Really, no, no! Even with my last fight, Joe [Weller], I still haven’t talked to Joe since the ring.
BI: Really? He’s been doing some analysis of you [and Logan Paul].
KSI: Yeah, he loves it. He’s in a good spot though.
BI: Are you not on good terms?
KSI: No. I don’t like him. It’s annoying, he might be at the afterparty. It’s a little bit awkward, but...
BI: You seem much more calm and normal in real life.
KSI: Yes. Yeah, I’m not, like, shouting in your face. On videos, you always have to be more entertaining. If I was like this [indicates himself as he is, sitting down], people would be asleep.
BI: How do you gear yourself up to be the KSI on video?
KSI: Normally I just... whenever there’s a camera I know how to turn it up. Usually — I’ve been doing this so many years — it’s just natural now.
BI: You’re in your early twenties. In a normal world, you would have gone to uni, and you’d have graduated, but clearly that hasn’t happened. What would the alternative JJ have done?
KSI: I wanted to do computer science. I love my gaming, I wanted to do anything to do with gaming. That’s why, with the whole YouTube aspect, I went into that. When I saw that you could make money playing games I thought, ‘This is a Godsend.’ It’s exactly what I wanted to do. With the whole videos and making entertaining videos and just… everything to do with that was way more exciting than doing computer science and going to uni and going for this whole hassle.
BI: You could have been the next Jeff Bezos.
KSI: [Laughs] No, no. Definitely not, definitely not.
BI: What are your coolest gadgets?
KSI: I love all of that. But coolest gadget… probably just an iPhone. My Nintendo DS, every now and then I like a few oldies like the Game Boy, Game Boy Colour, all that.
BI: I guess you were maybe too young for the N64.
KSI: What! I wasn’t too young! No! Of course I played the N64. I used to always smash it out. Especially in secondary school, all of us had a dorm and all of us would just play Super Smash Bros or GoldenEye. But...obviously there’s lots of better games now.
BI: Are you a Fortnite fan?
KSI: Nah not really. I mean it was cool at first, before everyone knew how to start building, so now it’s just you shoot someone and all of a sudden they build a mansion. And then you’re like, ok, this sucks.
BI: You went to school in Berkhamsted. Are you still in touch with your friends there?
KSI: One of my best friends, Simon, [Simon Minter, known as Miniminter on YouTube] went to the same school. We’ve stayed in touch, and we do the same thing now, which is sick. It’s kinda hard with what I do, I’m always travelling, I’m always doing something out of the ordinary. They’re doing a 9 to 5, so it’s hard to keep in touch. Every Christmas, I always go back to my parents’ to see them, they live around there. So I always just play football with them, and we go out as well. It’s kind of like a reunion, seeing what’s going on. It always seems like I’m doing the crazy stuff.
BI: What has YouTube fame let you do that you couldn’t have otherwise done?
KSI: It has allowed me to do whatever I want, really. Make a career out of anything. If I went down the computer science route, I’d never be here. I feel like with YouTube, it’s a core that lets you bounce off into various things whether it’s movies or music or boxing, anything. It allows you to do anything.
BI: How did you get into YouTube boxing? Why is this a thing?
KSI: It started with Joe Weller, man.
BI: And the concept of ‘beef’ right? [Beef is where YouTubers have a dispute with each other]
KSI: Yeah, I guess that’s where it started. I called him out as a joke on Instagram, saying I’d fight the winner — he was fighting his mate — and then it just blew up from there.
BI: This has all been hugely successful for you. Do you feel the pressure to keep views up by doing really crazy things?
KSI: No. I used to feel like that, but that’s the worst way to go about things. For me, it didn’t make me happy. I wasn’t happy just thinking ‘Oh, I need to do everything for views.’ Because then it made me do things I didn’t actually enjoy. Now I don’t care about views, I never look at [social media statistics site] SocialBlade, I never look at how many views or even the amount of money I’m getting, I hardly look at that. It’s all about making sure I’m doing what I enjoy doing and making sure I’m happy. That’s the most important thing. Happiness is number one.
BI: But you’re still hoping for a decent chunk of change out of this fight, no?
KSI: I’ve got to make sure my whole team eats good as well.
BI: After this series of matches, would you challenge another YouTuber?
KSI: I’d want to go pro. So, there would be no headgear. It would be me fighting someone who is a professional boxer. That would be the biggest test for me. Just a cool thing to do, just to show people I used to be a FIFA gaming YouTuber, but now I can go pro and beat a professional boxer. I used to just be like a skinny dweeby kid, and now I’m doing this.
BI: What are you thinking for the long term?
KSI: I’m not thinking about it too much. I guess I’m trying to enjoy the moment. Like the whole boxing thing, my end goal is to go professional and go from there. Music has always been a big thing, I’d love to go into acting, and see what I can do there. I always like to see what I can do, and push myself to the limit.

The Best Ergonomic Computer Mice and Mouse Alternatives for RSI and Other Hand and Wrist Injuries
After a lot of research these are what I believe to be the best computer mice, and computer mice alternatives out there for helping to stave off RSI and other hand and wrist problems.
It has long been known that a simple computer mouse is enemy number one for a person’s wrists, literally heavy use of a computer mouse puts a person at even greater risk of hand and problems than a keyboard. That means getting the right mouse is unbelievably important, as doing so can not only help stave off future problems, but can help alleviate already developed problems. With that said,…

The Best Ergonomic Keyboards for RSI and Other Hand and Wrist Injuries
Due to the problems I have with my hands and wrists, and another research into looking for the best ergonomic keyboards. These are what I have found to be the best!
If you have hand and wrist problems like I do or wish to stave off hand and wrist problems, then an ergonomic keyboard is an absolute must. But one of the great difficulties, or at least one of the great difficulties I have found, is that when looking for an ergonomic keyboard you are presented with literally gazillions of options. Like literally so many that it is just ridiculous. With this in…

Strategy: These people make hundreds of dollars a month flipping products from a skater brand that teens are obsessed with. Here's how they do it.
Supreme is more than just an obsession for some teens — it's how they make money. Supreme products that retail for around $40 often end up on eBay for $300 within minutes of selling out. Here's how people that flip Supreme do it.
Teens are obsessed with Supreme, a skater brand that has seen mainstream success in recent years.
Supreme has garnered a lot of attention in the last week after copies of the New York Post with Supreme ads on the cover flew off the shelves. Almost all Supreme products sell out instantly.
There is a huge market for reselling Supreme products because of the extremely high demand. Some fans who shared their stories with Business Insider said they are able to make hundreds of dollars a week by flipping products they're able to buy before they sell out.
Supreme, Gen Z's favorite skater brand, has become a source of income for some savvy shoppers.
Supreme was founded in 1994 by James Jebbia and has since grown from a skater-centric brand to a mainstream apparel brand with its own cult following. The brand ranked seventh among upper-income teens' favorite brands in a spring 2018 survey by Piper Jaffray, and in 2017, Supreme received a roughly $500 million cash infusion from The Carlyle Group, which valued the brand at $1 billion.
Last week, loyal fans snatched up copies of the New York Post that featured a wraparound Supreme ad on the cover. The papers, which typically costs $1.50, flew off the shelves. Copies of it are now listed on eBay for many times its normal listing price.
There's a huge market for reselling Supreme products because of the extremely high demand. Some fans are able to make hundreds of dollars a week by flipping products they're able to buy when they're released in product launches called "drops."
But because of how quickly products sell out, people who flip them have to prepare.
"During Supreme season, I'm constantly researching, buying, and selling — it usually doesn’t stop until the season is over," 21-year-old Supreme fan Jake Morell told Business Insider.
Morell says he typically makes as much as $600 per month throughout a season, which includes one drop a week from August to December.
We spoke to two Supreme fans who flip products and make hundreds of dollars each week. Here's how they do it:
Supreme has two seasons: Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer. New products are released in events called "drops" every Thursday throughout the season, and they usually sell out within seconds online.

Before drops, people who flip Supreme typically do hours of online research to see what products will be coming out, what products people like or dislike, and what is predicted to have the highest resale value. One website fans use is Supreme Community, which leaks the details of product releases before they happen and allows users to vote on their favorite products.
"On the Supreme Community website, when you look at each drop, they have a voting system — underneath each picture of an item, you can see if it has thumbs-up or thumbs-down ratings, like on Rotten Tomatoes," Christopher Young, a 21-year-old who says he makes as much as $300 per week flipping Supreme products, told Business Insider.
"That gives you a general idea of, 'Oh, this is something that people really like, or this is something people don't really like.'"
Because of how quickly products sell out, people who flip Supreme products practice using the website to make sure they can buy the most-wanted items before they're gone.
"You have to go on in advance and figure out what section your item is going to be in — is it going to be in 'tops' or in 't-shirts?' Is it going to be in 'accessories' or in 'bags?'" Young said.
Morell said that he is usually on the computer, waiting, at least 30 minutes before everything goes on sale.
Checking out can be a scramble — products can sell out even when they're already in your cart, so many people only buy one product a week to make sure they get something to sell. Even if you're buying just one product, you can turn a profit of as much as $300 a week throughout a season.
"It's an interesting game," Young said.
"Sometimes you'll be really happy with it, and sometimes you'll be super disappointed."
Part of why it's so hard to actually buy anything before it sells out is the use of automated bots. Some people who plan on reselling reportedly spend as much as $150 on automated bots that can be programmed to automatically buy products in certain colors or sizes in seconds.
Several shoppers and bot sellers have said that if Supreme catches you using a bot, it can block your IP address and shipping address.
Supreme did not immediately return Business Insider's request for comment on that reported practice.
"I remember there was one jacket that I really wanted, so I clicked on it on the website at 11:00 a.m., and it was already sold out by the time the page loaded. Stuff like that happens all the time, and it's very obvious that it's bots," Young told Business Insider.
Typically, small items like pins and stickers are under $30, while shirts, bags, and hats will cost between $30 and $100. Jackets, hoodies, and pants usually cost between $100 and $300, with a few outliers.
Within minutes of going on sale, the most popular products can end up on eBay for many times the original price. One of the most popular items from week one of the season — a Madonna t-shirt — cost $48 at Supreme, and within hours of the in-store drop, it was listed on eBay at a starting price of $250.
Another popular reselling website is Grailed. Within 45 minutes of Supreme's online launch, products like backpacks, t-shirts, and bags were listed on Grailed for more than twice the retail price.
Most sellers wouldn't even have the product in hand at this point — as long as an order confirmation is posted, people will buy it. It can take as little as 15 minutes to turn a profit.
Morell told Business Insider: "I set a budget for myself every week, which usually ranges from $300-$500. As soon as I get a shipping confirmation email, I immediately post the items I want to sell on Grailed. I usually receive a ton of offers within the day, and bargain with them as much as I can."
Results from flipping can be pretty hit or miss. "I got a lot for the Supreme Zippo last season. It retailed for $60, and I ended up selling it for $150. I remember being super shocked by that," Young said.
"The lowest amount I ever got was retail value on a sweater. I once sold a bag very quickly, and made twice the original value of it — the bag was $70, and I made $135," he said.
And profits aren't always guaranteed. "My biggest Supreme mistake was buying a Kayak for $480. Predicted resell was over $1,000. I went ahead and copped one, only for it to lose value immediately when it went on sale. I ended up selling it for $470 after fees and shipping," Morell said.
Though the sellers we spoke to typically make under $1,000 a month, some sellers are able to make much more than that from just one item. For example, a big-ticket item like the Supreme/Louis Vuitton Box Logo Tee — originally $495 — goes for well over $1,000 on eBay.
