So, I was playing Dragalia Lost and the current event is somewhat based on Persephone’s Myth, but this time the kidnapper is Thanatos, the god of death and he’s not a good kidnapper.

So, you have to fight it so you can help the Persephone stand in, aaannndddd, Thanatos has a glowing left eye.

I already perused the internet trying to figure out if it’s there a description of any personification of death which has a powerful left eye, I cannot find anything (you can point me in a good direction if you want) so take this with a ton of salt because I’m using DRAGALIA LOST as a reference:

Sans is the grim reaper.

You most probably knew or got that assumption already, but let me proceed.

So, most of the underworld in Undertale are loosely based on interpretations of hell. There’s 7 major areas in the underworld, (Ruins, Snowdin, Waterfall, Hotland, the Core, New Home, True Lab) so we have Dante’s Inferno 7 circles of hell, and Asgore is a goat with a trident (he’s quite literally Satan), SO, it’s not far fetched that the other characters are based on other death or hell related deities or mythos, and since we have Riverperson, who’s a most obvious analog to Charon, the guy from the river stix, we can assume there’s good chunk of greek mythos into the mix.

Let’s say Sans is an analog to Thanatos, the god of death (or personification of death, so we can also add the look of the grim reaper, since Thanatos looks more like an amgel) on greek myth. Thanatos has a tons of brothers, and Charon is one of them. That means that the theory that Papyrus is the Riverperson is not that far fetched, but Thanatos has another brother which he’s almost never seen without: Hypnos, the god of sleep.

An important thing to point out is the fact that Thanatos is the god of peaceful death, the one which arrives when you sleep and that’s why he’s always hanging around with Hypnos. The idea is Hypnos is an overachiever and when they go around, Hypnos ussually arrives before Thanatos and make you sleep, but, when Hypnos fails and Thanatos arrives first, you die. But a peaceful death, one that’s almost like falling sleep. Considering that Sans and Papyrus are almost always together (And in neutral endings if Papyrus is alive both are always together no matter what’s happened), Thanatos is the oldest and Hypnos is the youngest, and Papyrus is the only character who cannot kill you (even if it’s by choice), things check out, Papyrus is supposed to be an analog to Hypnos.

Here’s the best part: Thanatos and Hypnos are twins. Sans and Papyrus... are twins.
