For my 23rd birthday, last January, I got a beginners kit to start your own bullet journal by MUS creatief from my mom and her partner. I was super excited to start and to see what I could make of it. I’ve tried to keep a bullet journal before, but I let my perfectionism predominate. Add to that that keeping a bullet journal became yet another bullet on my to-do list and eventually I just quit altogether. This time, however, it was all different and I tried to let go of my perfectionism and just go with it. Above you can already see a bit of the eventual result, but I will show you some more pics of some lists I (used to) keep and how it all began 😏

At the start of my journey of keeping a bullet journal I didn’t have that much stationery and stuff to decorate my bujo with, which made my weekly spreads and lists quite empty and boring. I’m also not that great at doodling (working on that though!) nor at hand lettering, so I mainly used my bujo for to-do lists and marking down appointments. Thank goodness for websites like Wish – most of my washi tapes, pens and stickers that I currently use are from Wish!

In the pics above you can see some changes that my weekly spreads went through. The first one was how it started, but because I didn’t have that much space to put my to-do’s and appointments I switched to the bottom spread. It’s still the one I use and I’m very happy with it! Some minor changes are that I don’t track my water-intake anymore, that I use washi tape to mark the days and that I only use a black and red pen. This you can see in the photo’s down below!

Where I thought I couldn’t doodle nor hand letter, I’m now much more creative with my spreads. I use stickers; I decorate the spreads with washi tape, instead of just taping the upper side of the page, and I draw a little doodle every now and then. The next step will be to master hand lettering, but until then these washi tapes with the days of the week definitely come in handy!

I start every new month with a page with the month on it. I used to decorate them with wreaths, but my perfectionism was getting in the way of that, so I stopped doing that and just noted down the months. Recently I found back my own creativity again, and started to decorate the month’s pages again. The right photo shows what I did with the page that marks the new year. It shows creativity that I didn’t think was possible at the start of 2018 😂

The lists and trackers I keep in my bujo

General TBR This is the spread where I keep track of the books that are on my shelves and that I still want and need to read. When I’ve read them I colour them in with a felt tip pen and a coloured pencil. Although I’m currently on a book buying ban, I keep buying books, so I might have to start a new TBR spread soon 🙊

Monthly TBR On this monthly page I keep track of the books I want to read per month, and when I’ve read them I tick them off (which is very satisfactory!). I just make a list of all the books I want to read and add the number of pages it contains, so I have a nice overview on how much I have left and if I have up my reading game.

Habit tracker Above you can also see how I keep track of my daily habits. I found inspiration for this kind of tracker on Pinterest and it’s such a simple way of keeping track of what you want and need to do in a day! These things aren’t really chores, though, but more things that I want to make a habit of.

Washi tape samples Since I have so many different washi tape rolls that I love, I want to be able to see which ones I owned when I run out of one. I just filled the left page, so the right one is still a little empty, but I expect it will be filled up soon 😏

Spreads I want to pick up (again) in 2019

Yearly calendar I have a lot of appointments that are made a couple of months before the actual dates, so it might be handy to have a yearly overview of all the appointments I have in a year (like dentist appointments and courses). I’m thinking of making a calendar and make a list of appointments and their dates underneath.

Monthly calendars Same thought for this one as the yearly calendar. I always make the weekly spreads only one or two weeks before, so I think it’s better if I have all the important dates per month together in one calendar.

Reading tracker (hours read per book per month) I saw this idea in the instagram stories of @lottelikesbooks and I think it’s a fun way to keep track of how many hours you spend per day/month on a book! On the other hand I think it might become a chore eventually to track my reading with a timer, but I’d like to at least give it a try!

Decorated quotes Now that I’m getting more creative with my weekly spreads, I think it’s also time for me to challenge myself with adding a decorated quote every now and then. I always make note of lovely quotes I hear in songs and read in books, so this is a nice way to keep them as a reminder!

I think that is probably enough to keep me busy all year (lol). Usually I make a list that is too long then I give up on it after a couple months. I have a Happy Planner that I really need to use more, so I upgrade to the larger size for the new year. I got an Echo for Christmas too that I love being able to tell Alexa to add something to a list. I have a problem with write list and forget them or loose them, this way it is right on phone. That way I am taking it every where; I can just open the Alexa app and see the lists. I can also just add an idea that is in my head at that moment, I am getting too old to remember everything. Lol #justforty. As an Artist, I have millions of ideas in my head all the time.

The Scarf Project is a side project of ours to paying it forward locally. We make and collect scarves, hats, mittens, and bears to put out on our local common on the first day of winter. If you want to join we have a local (greenfield, MA) group and a USA page, were I can set up a local group for you from the page. I will make you the admin and you can run it as you see fit but I will be to add stuff too. By adding it to the national page people will be able to find a local group easier. If you want to donate you and can send money to my paypal (it is all used to cover the cost of yarn). Here is a wish list on Amazon for the Project’s needs like: yarn, mittens, and tools.

Online stores are not working out for us both get folks there and the huge cost. In order to invest better into to the company, we are closing the shop part of my online Boutique (not here). Do you have any ideas about a better/easier way to sell online? We try to keep prices low for you, so the more expenses it is, the higher prices will be. Of course you all get that!

My new line of America girl dolls clothes has been super successful at the last 3 craft fairs of 2019. This let’s me play with dolls, which I loved doing as a child. One other benefit is, my daughter (10) will play too without any technology around. I hate that kids are growing up too fast, so this helps her slow down. Back to what I was saying, I sold almost all my stock at 3 craft fairs in a row. So I will be backing off my dolls (raggedy ann are still available) to focus more on this line. One more thing, my mom makes ethnic clothes with unique prints for those looking for them (pic below). Finally, she will make bigger gowns and customs that will be works of art.

Last year I started making memory bears out of loved ones shirts. I believe I made about 20 in 2019. Here are some examples below. They a $40 shipped. For more info read this blog post. I will continue to take at least 1 bear order a week, this about how long it takes to make one, shipping time not included.

          I would love to thank you all for supporting us since 2013. Here is to a great 2020 for all of you. I can’t really believe it has been that long already and I have love getting to know all of my customers (some have come friends). Here is to making more friends this year. "Love is the ultimate outlaw......I love you for free." - The Quirky Tale of Still Life with Woodpecker by Tim Robbins

Due to the novel's extreme peculiarity, it was almost hard to begin writing the review without sounding like a lunatic. My first Tom Robbins novel has opened an entirely new level of understanding of the insane absurdity in a tale. Yet, no matter how bizzare the story went, it was a crazily fun and liberating experience because sometimes, one might need a break from those heavy-themed litetatures and this book would be a perfect pick for just that particular reason. Reading the book made me feel like I was on a fun road trip with friends, driving mindlessly with a lot of crazy fun in between. There is no summer in my country but I'd have to agree with those who think that this book would be a perfect summer reading. The Hawaii setting in the beginning of the story also helped building that vibe perfectly.

The tale revolved around the life of a princess named Leigh-Cherry who was the daughter of the king and queen of Furstenberg-Barcalona kingdom, King Max and Queen Tilli. Their reign had ended and instead of residing in their homeland, they became a fugitive in the US. The princess had faced typical teenager problems like teenage pregnancy and abortion, which later caused her to swear on celibacy. That until she met this outlaw named Bernard Wrangler (Woodpecker) in a convention. They quickly became lovers despite Bernard's love in blowing up places with his dynamites (literally). These two readheads were head over heels about one another and though their personality clashed in the beginning (outlaw and a law abiding princess) they struggled and moved to the center to find compromise...to make love stay (one of the biggest questions discussed in the story). There were lots or crazy philosophy and conspiracy theories about the moon, lunar and somehow its relation with women's menstruation, the readheads that was believed to be cursed, the planet Argon, the pyramid and its existence both in in a pack of camel cigarette and the dollar, apparently, spluttering around the story which added to the story quirkiness. The ultimate was definitely about love, as one believed love to be the ultimate outlaw (...I love you for free) and the other believed the complete opposite.

The most interesting part, though, was related to the princess complete devotion toward her lover by creating an almost accurate duplication of the lover's prison (you have to find out why Bernard was arrested yourself). She locked herself in the attic, painted the room pitch black, threw the comfortable mattress away, ate with rationed food, peed in a bucket, and accompanied by a pack of Camel cigarette -- she did not even smoke. Her devotion was very superficial and dare I say, stupid if only it was the typical plotted novel. Regardless, it was incredibly superficial, typical plotted or not. But, the highlight, was indeed not that superficial act instead the solitary moment she had during her alone time in which she could sync her body with the moon and understood better about that pack of Camel and the pyramid. Now, though I did not really think those were matter of importance nor did I took it literally, I would say that it was my favorite moment because it gave me the pleasure of understanding more about ourselves during the time when we were alone. Creating the deepest level of intimacy with ourselves until we reached a mind and body synchronisation is not to be overlooked. Hence, this quote expressed by our one and only outlaw, "Funny how we think of romance is always involving two, when the romance of solitude can be ever so much more delicious and intense. Alone, the world offers itself freely to us. To be unmasked, it has no choice.", easily became one of my favorites, among many others.

Most of the time, I found the main male character Bernard to be the most agreeable, apart from his love of dynamite and blowing up places. Sometimes, his beliefs were questionable but most of the time his distinct way in looking at the world earned him the favorite character title. Some of the quotes that I like are, "We are our own dragons as well as our own heroes, and we have to rescue ourselves from ourselves." and "Don't let yourself be victimised by the age you live in. It is not the times that will bring us down, any more than it's society. When you put the blame on society, then you end up turning to society for the solution...". He could be some kind of a life guru, but he was not crafted to be perfect in the story. He was flawed and, as I have said, some of his beliefs and actions were questionable yet I have learned one valuable thing or two by reading his character.

The story ended tragically but happily because, though the once parted lovers reunited in a pyramid (built by the princess new lover Aben F'iezel), they were actually locked inside for some times with only wine and a cake to live on. What happens next and how the story really ends will be for you to find out.

I probably have spoilt a great part of the story but believe me, no matter how much I have let on, you will still find a whirlpool of arbitrary plot twists and bizzare moments to keep you hooked. Some may even sound like a drunk story that do not even make any sense! Most of the time I wonder whether the writer has intended to send some sort of cryptic messages but some other times I just cruised along with the story -- in which I felt more liberated because it magically unlocked a lot of valves in my brain which previously segregated with many aspects of how the story should go (based on my reading prior knowledge) such as certain plot development or theme or logical progression of writing or other structured stuffs. In my case, I chose to be liberated by simply went along and enjoyed the ride. It's different from what I usually read, but it's worth the journey. Just like that fun road trip analogy, it's crazy fun but it gives us lessons to learn from the simplest or the wierdest or even the most superficial things we encounter during the journey.

Happy Tuesday, Penny Darlings!

I am writing to you this morning from an AIRPLANE. Yeah, that’s right, ya girl is currently writing this post from the middle of the air. It won’t be published then, but like HOW COOL IS THAT?!

I’m on my way home from Chicago which was an exhausting, exhilarating, inspiring, humbling, stressful, wonderful, and totally amazing whirlwind of a trip. I think I will be napping for the next two weeks. #SendCoffee

Anyway, onto the content of the day!

A few weeks ago I posted pictures of how we cut corners to make our big day the most exciting it could be and everyone wanted some tips on HOW!

Between thrifting, DIY, and using resources like, Zola, to keep everything straight: there’s so many ways to not break the bank this wedding season!

So today, I’m sharing some inspo of where you can save a little budget without sacrificing style or function or awesome!

  1.) Get creative with centerpieces!

Centerpieces should represent your style as a couple! There’s no need for $200 centerpieces! We found tablecloths & doilies at a flea market and mixed it with some fun retro board games (which were a HUGE hit!) that we found at the flea market or borrowed from friends! You can stack books, put paintbrushes in a vase, use fun photos in thrifted frames! This is a really easy place that you can achieve the same style without having to break the bank!

  2.) Thrift, thrift, thrift

Stop in EVERY thrift store! You never know what you’re going to find! We mixed vases, salt and pepper shakers, tablecloths, doilies, and linens from thrift stores and flea markets! One of my fave thrift store finds were those vintage (1976) Samsonite teal suitcases that we found for a STEAL at $15 (for all three!) at a thrift store in a town my mom and I were passing through. You can find some amazing and totally unique finds that fit you and your spouse-to-be’s style!

  3.) Amazon is your BFF

If you know what you’re looking for, Amazon has pretty much anything you can think of. We were able to decorate a large portion of the venue with those rainbow polka dot garland (in the background of pic 1!) and that awesome garland flags, adding some color and pizzaz to the lobby, were both found on Amazon for under $10!

  4.) Think Outside the DIY Box

Between Pinterest & YouTube tutorials, you can pretty much make anything if you can type it in! My mom and her girlfriends made that big flower wall by hand out of construction paper and hot glue to decorate behind the bar! It was SO cool! And those cookies were made in HUGE batches by my family and put as an awesome addition to the dessert table! I am NOT crafty, but I love baking! Try to think of unusual things to see if you can DIY!

  5.) Wedding Clothes Can Be Literally Anything

Our groomsmen were rocking ASOS jackets (and their own black pants and shoes!). Preston got his wedding suit from JCPenney on SUPER clearance for under $100. Our bridesmaid dresses were under $100 (from ModCloth). My shoes were $30 from DSW. It was easy to cut corners by thinking outside of ‘wedding industry’ clothing stores!

  6.) Do your own flowers!

This one is so easy, and so many people don’t do it! For our flowers (centerpieces) we bought several bouquets of flowers from Sam’s Club and arranged them into wildflower bouquets for centerpieces, but you could do this with ANY flowers!

  7.) Sometimes Buying & Not Renting is a Budget Saver!

This sounds illogical, but dream with me here for a second.

I wanted those two vibrant couches. We bought them for $100 each on the Facebook marketplace. We looked into renting vintage couches and honestly, it was more like $300 for a rental! Renting linens, renting plates, etc. can be WAY more expensive in the long run! Those little white tables are $10 from IKEA and we bought ten of them and they were PERFECT! And the bonus is, at the end, my mom sold a LOT of it on the Facebook marketplace!

  8.) Creativity Can Getcha a Long Way

I knew I wanted RAINBOW. I wanted lots of color and kitsch and whimsy in our wedding. I also am obsessed with balloons (they’re SO photogenic!) and lanterns! Instead of spending a ton of money to get a certain vibe, we were able to achieve it with balloons and lanterns from the local party supply store! We also had cups & napkins (saving us rental fees for glasses & linen) from Oriental Trading (no renting glasses & easy to recycle!) that were wedding themed!

9.) Find Resources that Pull Double Duty

There’s a LOT to keep track of for the big day. Guest lists, RSVPs, mailing addresses, registry, wedding website, checklists, and a billion other little things. Selling a House to Millennials? Bring a Camera, and Fake Eyelashes

Just as he was about to close a sale, Colorado real-estate broker Marvin Martinez found himself coping with a crisis. A beauty crisis.

His client, in her 20s, knew the broker would post a photo on the “Colorado First Time Home Buyer” Facebook page, which now has 85,000 followers.

The problem: She needed fake eyelashes. And not just any fake eyelashes; a specific set she had at home.

Mr. Martinez offered to make a trip to Walgreens but was rebuffed. The client went home, changed her outfit, got her own fake lashes and about an hour later, emerged for the shoot, soon after signing the papers.

“We just waited, that’s all,” Mr. Martinez, 54 years old, said. “What else could we do?”

As millennials buy homes in greater numbers, new wrinkles are emerging in an age-old process. Gone are the days of popping a champagne cork once the purchase and mortgage forms are signed. Today, more first-time buyers rush to share their newfound status as homeowners across social media.

That has led some to craft elaborate photo shoots in or outside a first home. These often feature props such as “First Home” signs or heart-shaped hand poses around new keys. Others are captured dancing in their bedrooms or giving piggyback rides through the front door.

Real-estate agents are taking note, and playing along. People 36 and younger, or the millennial generation, were the largest group of home buyers, at 34%, from July 2015 until June 2016, according to a National Association of Realtors report. And roughly two-thirds of those buyers were also rookies, according to the March report, the most recent generational data available.

Joey Cabibbo and his now-wife, Morgan, were so excited about their new home they posted a photo of themselves on Instagram sitting on their front lawn with the “SOLD” sign “before we even got the keys,” Ms. Cabibbo said.

A few days later—after garnering around 100 likes and more than a dozen comments—they did a photo shoot with photographer friend Dawn Richardson around their newly built home in Boerne, Texas. Pretty soon Mr. Cabibbo was flinging Ms. Cabibbo over his shoulders in their driveway. Then he gave her a piggyback ride in front of their wooden garage door and stone three-arch entry area.

In October, it was Ms. Richardson’s turn in front of the lens. When she and her husband bought their first home, she had one of the photographers she works with document the event.

Despite 95-degree Texas weather, Ms. Richardson donned a gray sweater and dark blue skinny jeans. Never mind the heat. “I wanted that cozy feel,” she said.
