Little Pumpkin
Pairing: Anthony x Reader
Summary: Anthony and Y/N have planned to wear Halloween costumes and hand out candy to trick or treaters. How will Anthony react when she switches up her costume last minute?
This imagine is a part of my Halloween themed series, you can read the complete series here🎃
Word Count: 1k
“Y/N, the trick or treating is supposed to start soon” Anthony said, walking into the doorway of our kitchen. I was currently frosting some cookies for Anthony and I, for after we handed out candy. We were going to watch Halloween movies and eat a lot of junk food.
Anthony was my boyfriend, we’d been dating for three years. We had finally moved out of our apartment and into our first house. This was the first year that we would actually have trick or treaters coming over. We were pretty exited about it.
I finished the frosting on the last cookie and put them in the fridge. “See, I’m done. There’s no need to rush me” I said, giggling to myself. “You still need to put on your costume” Anthony said.
Anthony had convinced me that we should dress up in matching Halloween costumes. Anthony was dressed up as Danny from Grease. I was dressing up as Sandy, with the poodle skirt and everything.
“Okay, fine I’m going” I said, as I walked into our bedroom to change. I had a surprise for Anthony, that he was completely oblivious to. About a week ago, I had found out that I was pregnant. Then, I happened to see a pregnancy announcement shirt on Amazon. I knew that this was how I had to tell Anthony.
It was a black shirt with a skeleton showing the ribs and the spine. But on the stomach area, it showed a little baby skeleton. I changed into that shirt and took a deep breath. Before I could even turn to leave our room, I heard Anthony come in our room behind me.
“Babe, that’s not the costume we agreed on” he said, only seeing me from the back. I took another breath and turned around. “Why are you wearing a different costume?” Anthony asked. Then, I saw his eyes start to look at the shirt. I could see his mind working to figure out what it meant.
Then, his eyes went really wide. His eyes went up to meet my own. He looked thrilled, shocked, surprised, and ecstatic all in one. “Baby, are you pregnant?” He asked me, walking towards me. I just nodded and tears started to fall on to my cheeks.
Anthony reached out and lightly placed his hand on my stomach. Then instantly, he started tearing up. He looked back up at me. “There’s really a baby in there?” He asked me, his voice soft and delicate. “Yeah, we’re going to have a baby” I told him, smiling.
He cupped my face and leaned in and kissed me. I could feel his tears on my cheeks. It was the most special kiss we had ever shared. I held onto his sides as he kissed me and poured all of his love into the kiss.
We both pulled apart and Anthony rested his forehead on mine. Then Anthony got down on his knees and kissed my stomach. “I can’t believe we’re finally going to parents, I am so excited. You are going to be an amazing mom” Anthony told me. “I love you so much” I said, kissing him lightly again.
“It’s like our own little pumpkin in your stomach” Anthony told me. “Aww, pumpkin is such a cute nickname” I told Anthony, emotionally.
“Alright, now I have to actually get dressed into my costume” I said, giggling to myself. Anthony wiped the tears away from my eyes and left the room to give me some privacy to get dressed. I put on my Sandy outfit and adjusted it in the mirror and then joined Anthony in the living room.
“You are perfect” Anthony told me, and then he kissed my cheek. “Let’s go hand out some candy” I told Anthony, smiling.
“So I was thinking about our baby’s first Halloween costume, we should have them dress up as Scooby Doo, and we can be Fred and Daphne” Anthony told me.
“Awww baby, that’s such a cute idea” I told him, smiling to myself. I could tell that Anthony was going to be an amazing father. He was the most loving person that I had ever met. And I had seen him with like cousins or other family member’s kids and he was just perfect. Kids loved him and he was so good with them.
We grabbed the candy bowl and walked out onto our porch. We sat down in the chairs that we had set out and waited for our first trick or treater.
Then we saw a little boy come running up the stairs onto the porch. His parents came chasing after him. “James slow down” the mom said.
They were dressed as the Incredibles and their son, who was maybe two years old, was dressed as Jack-Jack. “Hi buddy, happy Halloween” Anthony said, handing him some candy. The boy muttered back some version of mumbled “happy Halloween” in baby talk. My heart just about melted.
“I love your guys’ costumes. They’re so cute” I said, and I couldn’t help but get emotional. I quickly wiped away a tear. “I’m sorry, we just found out that I’m pregnant, and we’re already thinking about family Halloween costumes” I told them.
“Oh that’s amazing, congratulations” the mom told me. “What do you think James? Do you like your costume?” Anthony asked the little boy. “Superhero” the boy mumbled. “Yeah that’s right, you are a superhero” his dad told him. “Have a happy Halloween” the mom told us as they walked away.
“He was so sweet and you were so good. You’re amazing with kids” I told Anthony. “You are just as amazing, you always know how to connect with them. You inspire me Y/N” Anthony told me, interlacing one of our hands.
The night was filled with many trick or treaters. Anthony and I were also constantly telling each other, “oh that can be baby’s first Halloween costume”.
One year later, when little Carlos had already been born, we decided to dress up as the Incredibles. We also constantly referred to him as our little pumpkin.

My Sweet Ride is an amazing episode of Phineas and Ferb and the only thing bad about it I that I wish we could have seen more people in full out 1950s clothes!! So I did that!! (Also including some MML kids because I love them and don’t draw them enough!)
Anyways!! If y’all want to see me rant about 1950s stuff for a very long time because I had a blast doing research for this project you should click the keep reading!! :D
Okay a quick prelude!! Not only am I going to talk about outfits I designed, but while doing research I was blown away about the attention to detail the original designers had for these outfits and characters so I’m going to talk about their outfits too! :D
Here are my sources if you want to look into this btw!! :D

Candace
Okay I’m going to start out by saying I just adore this outfit
That has nothing to do with anything I just really love it!!
I’m thinking I might make one of my own for Halloween but that’s off-topic
Okay- 1950s clothing!!
Candace is wearing a blouse (?) with a cardigan over the top, and a pleated swing skirt.
This is a classic 1950s girl’s style
More specifically its also a classic “preppy good kid” look
Which Candace absolutely is!!
Y’all should notice that all the skirts are past knee-length, which was standard of the time.
Candace also has a neck scarf, a common accessory, and a headband.
Ribbon headbands were still a thing in the 50s but the hard plastic headband was also coming into style in the later 1950s.
She’s wearing a pair of saddle shoes which were one of the popular options of the time among boys and girls
Her hair is long with curls at the end, another classic teenager look in the 50s!
While short hair was more popular among adult women, teenage girls often kept theirs long with slight curls on the end!
Bangs were also standard, but usually shorter than how I drew them
Sorry that bit’s inaccurate through all of them, it’s just easier for me to draw long!
Finally, in case you had any doubt about Candace’s outfit being time period, here’s an advertisement from the article I read:
Tumblr media
Vanessa
To start off we have a blouse and pencil shirt for Vanessa
Pencil and swing skirts were the two most common skirts of the time
She’s also wearing a belt, which I modified slightly to look like-
Tumblr media
The wide contour belt on the bottom right!
She’s also wearing a pillbox hat, one of the popular hats of the time!
Hats were generally not worn by teenagers because they were seen as “mature”
But that fits pretty well with Vanessa’s character
It’s the same story with the pumps, which I also changed lightly to match time period ones a bit more
Now what made me make my original post about the outfits in My Sweet Ride was actually the hair
Specifically, Vanessa’s hair is modeled after the Bettie Page style
Tumblr media
This hair wasn’t actually that popular with the masses because it was seen as too simple, not classy, etc.
BUT it was popular among rebel girls in the USA
And like!!!!!! Y’all the designers did SUCH a good job to get down into details like that!!!!!!!!
But yeah her outfit’s great!! Next one!
Stacy
For Stacy, I decided to change things up slightly and give her a dress!
Specifically, it’s a shirtwaist dress, which I modeled after the reference below
Tumblr media
Why the shirtwaist dress you may ask? Idk I think they’re neat
I thought it fit the vibe I was going for so I did that one I don’t know what to tell you jkdshsf-
Okay so generally, the belt wouldn’t have been a different color but I wanted to tie the green I used in a little more
Btw sorry I changed her color scheme a bit
I honestly haven’t fully figured out her original color scheme so I modified it a bit so it would look nice for this!
Pastels were very popular in the summer after all
I tried to stick to everyone else’s original color scheme though!
Stacy also has a headband tied up into a bow, which was standard
And to change things up I put her in a ponytail (with the end curled) which was popular with the teens!
Sklsdjhdkj I sound very “how do you do fellow teens“ while writing this that’s unintentional sorry
Shoes are penny loafers, another popular shoe at the time
I liked the little bows on the ends of some of the ones I saw and thought it was very Stacy!
That’s about it for her!
Phineas
This has nothing to do with anything but I love drawing Phineas
He’s just a funky little triangle!! I love him!
I’ll admit here that I didn’t look into men’s hairstyles, so you won’t hear about that from me sorry!
Phineas is wearing a black button-up, standard.
Black and white matched everything so they were the most common undershirt colors
Over that, he has a jacket that looks to be varsity jacket inspired, which was seen as super cool!
Full jeans were coming into popularity in the 50s but only with the younger generations
Finally, he also has saddle shoes like Candace does
So yeah it’s a solid 1950s outfit!!
Ferb
Tumblr media
Ferb’s a greaser, need I say more?
No, really he has everything
The white t-shirt and jeans combo is exactly the greaser look, so much so that most teenagers avoided it to not fall into stereotypes
Tighter fit jeans were coming into style in the later 50s, so that’s also accurate
The leather jacket just amplifies the greaser look
The one thing is that for the life of me I couldn’t figure out what shoes he was wearing
So I gave him a pair of sho-loks and called it a day!
More about sho-loks in Milo’s portion!
Isabella
Isabella makes an appearance with the first (and only) poodle skirt of the group!!
Poodle skirts, while definitely what most people think about when you say the 50s, actually weren’t that popular among teenagers
The embroidered designs were seen as childish, so children and preteens wore them the most
But here’s a fun tidbit you may not have caught from the show, Isabella is, in fact, a child
(I don’t know why I built that up so much sorry ldksjfhkds)
Anyways I decided if I was going to give anyone a classic poodle skirt it might as well be Isabella!
I modeled it after this poodle skirt:
Tumblr media
She’s also wearing a blouse with a peter pan collar, the most popular collar of the time
Another headband tied into a bow because it’s Isabella I had to give her a bow
Standard belt (nothing really to say about that)
And another pair of penny loafers with little bows because they’re cute gosh darn it!
Milo
Okay, I’ve been writing for a while but honestly a lot of the rest of these I just drew directly from reference so…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I did say I would talk about shu-loks here though and I will!!!
Now we know Milo is shoelace-adverse
And while there are plenty of slip-on options I found the shu-lok to be fascinating!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As you can see above, the tongue snaps down to keep the shoe on your foot!! Isn’t that cool? :D
So yeah I gave Milo those!!
Zack
We know Zack plays football so I gave him your standard sporty outfit
Tumblr media
Sorry I just find girls outfits infinitely more interesting so I kinda focused on those skjhgfdss
Oh! I do have something to say here!!
Converse were your typical sports shoe for the 50s so he has those!! Almost forgot that tidbit!!
Yeah, thick soles with wrinkles and stuff were seen as cool among teens so they got popular!
Melissa
Finally, we have some patterned pants!!
Yeah- checkers, plaid, stripes, polka dots, etc. were all very popular!!
I just didn’t want to draw them a lot ‘cause it’s hard sksfjdhgs-
But I gave Melissa checkers because it would get the black and white of her color scheme and I liked the way the checkered pants looked!!
Girls did wear pants at the time by the way!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
During summer and weekends mostly since they weren’t allowed to wear them to school
Short-sleeved turtle necks were also a thing and I thought that combo would look neat!!
Also, converse because it went with the outfit and that’s kinda what she’s wearing in the show!
Hair in a ponytail and side part bangs, both popular!
Yeah okay, that’s about it for Melissa!
Amanda
By this point, y’all are hopefully getting the gist of 50s fashion so we’re going fast now
Blouse, swing skirt, penny loafers (different style but still penny loafers), headband
(here’s what I modeled the whole thing after:)
Tumblr media
I do want to mention the pullover sweater because I thought I should include one and I really like the flower embroidery on them
Tumblr media
Then finally we come to her hair!! I already mentioned the headband but I was specifically modeling her hair in the pageboy style which looks like this:
Tumblr media
Obviously, it looks a little stylized but what can you do?
And that’s it!! I had so much fun doing research and designing this and I think they all turned out pretty good!! I’m going to do more go this in the futures so if there's someone in particular you’d like to see let me know!! I’m planning on doing Cavendish, Dakota, and Sara at least in the next batch!!

Although I can’t say that I’m as excited for the Simplicity release as I was for the Burda preview, I do think there is more of interest here than there was from the recent fall Vogue release.  The Simplicity fall patterns have a lot of costumes and crafts, but also a fair number of more stylish fall fashions.  There’s a lot to cover, so let’s take a look:
8733 – I know I’ve pretty over the whole sleeve trend, but I actually think the proportions here are really perfect.  The dress has just enough shaping, and the perfect amount of volume on the sleeve.  I’m not that wild about the crazy floral appliqué, but otherwise I’m really enjoying this pattern.
8734 – I also think this dress is really pretty, though I have to be honest with myself and admit that I don’t need to add it to my collection.  I do like that it has multiple back dart options for the curvier among us, and I think the placement of the darts and pleats has a very flattering effect.
8735 – There are already so many wrap dress patterns on the market, but this one has added princess seam shaping through the bodice, so that really could be a great feature that makes it worth adding another wrap dress pattern to the collection.  I might wait for reviews of this pattern before I buy it, but I’d be really curious to know how well the added shaping through the bust works to assist with the fit.
8737 – View D intrigued me in the drawings, but I’m really not as impressed with the model photos, so this one is probably a pass for me.
8738 – Of course, I’m having the opposite reaction to this pattern.  The line drawings look so boring, but the model photo makes the sweater look so cozy I can’t help but want to make one (or three) to live in during the winter.
8739 – I feel like they are trying to elevate a poncho to business attire, and it just isn’t happening here.  At the end of the day, there is just something innately casual about wearing a giant blanket as a piece of clothing, even with pockets.
8740 – I’m torn on this cardigan sweater.  The line drawings look really great, but it has just too much volume and bath-robe-ish-ness going on with the model.  Perhaps in a different fabric I’d be more into it?
8741 – This could be cute if you wanted a really simple jacket, but I think I’ve got enough similar patterns in the stash already.
8742 – I’ve really been into the idea of a longer, loose coat for this year, and I’m finding myself intrigued by this pattern.  I know I’ve got similar in the stash already that I could easily modify, but for some reason this pattern is really calling to me.
8743 – Another pattern I don’t need, but oddly really want.  I mean, how pretty are these skirts?  I know it’s a basic circle with a waistband, but, again, so pretty!
8744 – I don’t need another pattern for a basic trouser with slant pockets, but if you don’t have one, the AmazingFit line could be a good place to start.
8745 – Nothing too exciting with these easy-to-sew skirts, but the asymmetric seam detail at least prevents it from being totally boring.
8746 – I do find myself really liking this wrap skirt, especially the photographed view with the leather buckle detail.
8748 – This Threads wardrobe collection is a pass for me.  The silhouettes are all a bit too large and boxy, and there aren’t really any super unique pieces here.
8749 – I do like this new Mimi G. pattern though!  The coat looks super chic and the trousers are really nice as well, especially if you are looking for a really slim fit.
8750 – I’m even more excited by this pattern from Mimi G!  I want that top in my wardrobe, like, yesterday, and the snap pants are a really cool take on the recent athleisure trend.
8751 – I’ve yet to find a pattern from the Pattern/Hacking line that I really like; I find the silhouettes to be too basic and the “hacks” to be really simple modifications.
8752 – Another pattern/hacking piece I’ll pass on.
8753 – I am excited to see this men’s shirt pattern with 3 types of fit.  I feel like guys are very particular about their button ups, and this could help you accommodate a lot of tastes.
4178 – 1960s Vintage Accessories.  The berets are super fun!
8731 – 1950s Vintage.  I feel like I like the dress and the coat, but I don’t like either enough to get the pattern.  I’m still enamored with the vintage swing coat Simplicity came out with a while ago (8509), and this pattern just doesn’t compare in terms of drama, so I think I can safely give it an appreciative pass.
8732 – 1950s Vintage. Another dress I like, but, not enough to want to make. I think I have other 50s reprints that are similar, so I don’t feel the need to add this to the collection, but it is pretty.
8736 – 1940s Vintage.  I do like the look of these 40s blouses, but I’m not a fan of back buttons, so, another pass.  Super pretty though.
8747 – 1950s Vintage.  I will be adding this 50s pattern to my wishlist though; that jacket with the little peplum is so cute!  I really like the look of the skirt too.
8762 – 1950s Vintage.  I’m not much of an apron pattern collector, but I do think the options here are really cute, and view A looks super practical.
8754 – This kids sweater pattern could be a great investment; the little hoodie is super cute!
8755 – These dresses aren’t as exciting, but they look like they could be a quick sew.
8756 – Not sure how excited kids would be to wear a poncho, but the leggings looks pretty cool.
8757 –  I’m guessing this is supposed to be one of those easy patterns that will draw people into sewing?  I’m not excited by it, but I suppose there’s a market for it?
8758 – I feel like this would be more worthwhile if it had more than a single organizer included in the pattern.
8759 – I can’t speak to how practical these baby clothes are, but, they seem to be pretty representative of what I see babies wearing?
8760 – Not my favorite toy pattern, but not bad if you want to get a more cutesy vintage looks.
8761 – These looks really simple – possibly even no sew?  I’m more interested in making 3D objects if I’m crafting with fabric, but this could be a good craft for kids perhaps.
8763 – Not too excited by these dress/apron/vest/pant patterns.
8764 – The kids version of the quilting cotton suit.  Actually pretty adorable.
8765 – And we jump into the costume patterns.  You have to admit, that baby sloth is fraking adorable.
8776 – The only reason Burda trumps this is because the Burda one is for adults.
8777 – Can’t say I see the value in a single leggings pattern for kids (especially if it isn’t drafted to have a crotch gusset) when there are so many other options available.
8766 – Generic kids Halloween staples.
8767 – Even easier kids Halloween costumes.
8774 – Can’t go a year without releasing a poodle skirt.
8775 – Same for the adults.
8773 – Clowns.  Terrifying.
8772 – I am really enjoying this Día de los Muertos collection.  It really should have come out after Book of Life, but I’m surprised it took this long post-Coco to be released.
8771 – And, of course, the not-Game of Thrones–Game of Thrones cape collection.  Do I need it?  No.  Am I getting it?  Yes.
8770 –  To be fair, though, these capes are much cooler (and also much more fabric-intensive).
8768 – Really love this Cersi inspired gown.
8769 – This, however, has got to be my favorite costume release in the whole collection.  So stylish!  And really fun to customize to different characters and cosplays.
And that’s it!  If you have a really sizable pattern stash, there probably isn’t too much here that feels really unique or special.  I’m not seeing a lot that makes me excited about new styles or trends coming this fall.  But I do feel like this release is full of patterns for clothes I want to wear, which does say something for the release as a whole.  I’m definitely finding more here that’ll go on my wishlist for the next pattern sale than I was seeing in most of the other recent releases, so there is that.  What do you all think?  Is this release full of so many basics you can’t be bothered?  Or does a nice cozy sweater and basic wrap dress sound like the perfect projects for fall?  Feel free to discuss in the comments!
Fall 2018 Simplicity Patterns #sewing #pattern #Simplicity #fallsewing #fallfashion Although I can't say that I'm as excited for the Simplicity release as I was for the…

Our House
Strange Magic Week- Day 7: When We Are Old
Inspired by this playlist
AO3
Bog’s liver spotted hand shook slightly and he tightened the grip on the handle of his cane. Getting old sucked. Today though Bog liked to believe the minor tremor was a result of his being nervous and not simply old age. Sweet heavens, 85 years old and she could still make him nervous. Bog shook his head at the thought. Today was their 60th wedding anniversary.
Bog shuffled around their Livingroom, stopping every so often to inspect one of the many pictures placed around the room. Some hung on the walls, a neat row lined the top of the fireplace mantle, and still more sat guard on end tables. The pictures were not just a record of their time together but also an art piece on the change in technology. From the black and white polaroid’s of their wedding to the crisp digital photos of their grandchildren’s birthdays.
Bog looked at one photo, it had been taken the day they moved into this house. They stood on the front stoop, he and Marianne each held a cat in their arms, Bog held the white one, Imp they had called him, and Marianne held the grey tabby, Lizard. For five long years the cats had filled the otherwise emptiness of the house. Bog turned away from that picture, to look at another one, the day they brought home the twins.
Waiting for that call had been one of the hardest things Bog and Marianne had to endure. At last the adoption centre called, a new baby needed a home. They had been willing to take any child in need of a good home, never dreamed that when they got there they would have a choice.
“Would you like a boy or a girl?” the kind lady had asked.
When she further explained that the children were twins, Bog and Marianne hadn’t even discussed it.
“We’ll take them both.”
That was how Ian and Innis became part of the King family.
There were many summer time pictures taken out in a field by the lake, a place he and Marianne had frequented both before and after they were married. The orange and brown plaid blanket they had shared was prominent in so many of the photos. Halloween pictures and Christmas pictures blurred together, Bog didn’t know where the time had gone.
The next picture his eyes landed on was a good example of that. It was from their 50th Wedding Anniversary party. It was a good photo of Bog, Sunny, Pare, and Gus all dressed in matching red and cream striped jackets. They had done a barbershop quartet routine to Billy Joel’s The Longest Time. It had been the highlight of the evening. Afterword’s Marianne had told him how handsome she thought he looked, “just like Dick Van Dyke in Marry Poppins” she had said. “Is that a good thing or a bad thing?” Bog had asked in return, rather cheeky. It turned out to be a good thing. Had that really been ten years ago?
There was a tell-tale creak from the upstairs hallway and Bog made his way to the foot of the stairs. He didn’t know how after all these years the sight of Marianne could still take his breath away, and increase his heartrate- something that could be fatal at his age. Oh well, as his Da had always said, “it’s better to die, doing what you love.”
Marianne was dressed in a lilac poodle skirt-complete with poodle, white stockings, and a white t-shirt, over which she wore a wool cardigan that matched her skirt. Dawn, who had been a seamstress her whole life, and was still quick with a sewing machine at age 75 had made her sister’s skirt for the occasion. Marianne did not look her 79 years, though her once rich brown hair had faded to a lovely dark grey. She had dyed the tips purple for the anniversary and her upcoming 80th birthday.
Bog himself still had a full head of hair, but the vibrant black had turned to what Marianne described as “a rather fetching shade of silver.”  Bog had styled it as though he was still in his early twenties, and living in the fifties. He had on a pair of black jeans, a white t-shirt, and had even shrugged on his old leather jacket, which now hung off his bent frame. The look would not be complete without his large, round and thick-rimmed glasses, and of course his polished wooden cane. A greaser with glasses, who would have thought?
Too preoccupied checking one another out, neither heard the car pull in the driveway so both of them jumped when the loud knock came at the front door.
“Shall we?” Bog asked, extending his arm to his wife.
The whole thing was pretense, she knew he needed the support more that she did, but still Marianne played along, slipping her arm though his. The way he was just looking at her, had made her feel young again. One glance from him and Marianne was once more a blushing bride of nineteen.
On the front porch, which had been upgraded from the small concrete step it had once been to a fully functional wood deck, complete with fancy pillars and a three seater swing, stood their youngest grandson, Kieran, dressed head to foot in white 1930’s limo driver livery. His long white-blonde ponytail hung out the back of the cap.
“Oh Bog, you didn’t!” Marianne gasped at the sight of the car in the driveway.
“Aye, Ah did” Bog grinned at her like the fool he was and she took the opportunity to playfully slap his arm, which was followed by a quick peck on the cheek.
In the drive sat a white 1936 Rolls-Royce Phantom III, the exact same car Marianne’s father had rented for them for a week as his wedding present to them. Marianne remembered thinking it must have cost a fortune back then, the car had already been 20-21 years old at the time, she couldn’t even fathom the figure it would cost today.
“Bog you shouldn’t have” she chastised, but still the thought that had gone into it, Marianne couldn’t begrudge him that.
“The kids chipped in a bit” he confessed, unable to stop smiling at the absolute pleasure reflected in Marianne’s face.
“Nan, Gramps, your chariot awaits” Kieran declared, waving his hand out towards the car, he even had on white drivers gloves.
He hurried over to open the doors for each of his grandparents, and waited until each of them was settled before closing their doors.
Kieran hopped in the driver’s seat and started the car.
“Hello, my name is Kieran and I will be your driver this evening” Kieran declared.
Kieran was not far past sixteen and had successfully passed his driving test the first time round’, something which neither of his two older siblings had achieved.
Ian had blessed them with three grandchildren, only the first of which Marianne’s father had lived to meet. Innis and her wife Katie were awaiting confirmation on their adoption process, although Katie brought two step-grandchildren with her, from her first marriage. Marianne hopped they had been lying about the delay and that they would bring the new baby with them today as a surprise.
Marianne couldn’t believe how much their family tree had grown. Sunny and Dawn had three of their own, and each of them had two or three kids. She and Bog had gone from zero to two in a heartbeat, which still made her ache. When the twins were two Marianne had become pregnant for a short time, she was almost ready to tell Bog the joyful news when she had suddenly lost it.
He had of course been heartbroken when she finally got the courage to tell him two weeks later, but he had also been angry at himself. Bog had made an appointment that day for a vasectomy, not wanting Marianne to go through that pain of loss ever again. They had both cried but the twins were their light that brought them through.
***
The rented hall was full of friends and family that erupted into a loud applause when Kieran ushered his grandparents in the door. Marianne and Bog had waved graciously as if they were royalty. The room was decorated with still more photographs, pictures of old friends, new friends, and friends long since passed.
Marianne and Bog danced a jive to Dan Seal’s Bop, and then a waltz to Valdy’s Renaissance. Then they had to take a break because of Bog’s back and knees and Marianne’s hips. Getting old sucked.
Marianne slipped up only once, calling Kieran by Ian’s name and Ian had pulled his father aside.
“Mom’s getting worse” Ian said to his father, deep concern in his voice.
“She’s fine” Bog assured, but he had his own doubts. His biggest fear was that one morning he’d wake up and she wouldn’t know who he was.
The other day they had been out driving and Marianne had come to a full stop at a green light. He hadn’t been allowed to drive for years.
“We just don’t want you guys going all The Note Book on us. Have you thought any more about selling the house?”
“Pah, The Note Book” Bog said waving his hand in the air as if the title of the movie left behind a bad smell after being spoken.
“If anything” Bog said, raising a finger as if he was giving a lecture, “Your mother and I will go the way of Cocoon.”
“Alien abduction dad, really?” Ian asked raising a skeptic eyebrow.
“The Note Book” Bog said, in counter protest, “do you really think your mother and I watch that romantic crap?”
“Dad, it’s mom’s favourite movie” Ian deadpanned, before turning serious again, “It’s just, I’m worried about you guys, we all are.”
“Don’t worry so much son” Bog said, laying a comforting hand on Ian’s shoulder, “It’s no’ something ye have any control over.”
“Losing you both at the same time would just be really hard” Ian confessed, “and I just know that if mom goes first-” Ian couldn’t finish his own sentence.
“It would kill me too?” Bog finished, it was something that echoed his own thoughts on the matter.
Innis and Katie did surprise everyone by bringing along Ben, a sweet baby boy of eight months old, already sprouting dark curly hair. Sarah and Jenny tagged along sheepishly, knowing that they weren’t unwelcome but still feeling out of place.
Everyone had a grand time and no one was surprised that when they cut the cake Marianne managed to get a swipe of icing on her husband’s large nose.
***
Bog awoke in the middle of the night to find the space beside him in bed empty. It was one of his worse fears come true. Marianne had gotten up and wandered off somewhere. Bog felt around on his nightstand until he found his glasses. As soon as Bog removed the blankets to get out of bed he felt the chilly night air and knew Marianne hadn’t gone far. Bog quickly wrapped himself in his brown fleecy house coat and slipped his feet into some slippers and padded out onto the small balcony.
Marianne sat in one of the white wooden Adirondack chairs, with her coat, hat, boots, and scarf on right over her nightgown, a packed suitcase sat next to her. She just sat there gazing up at the starry night sky.
“Going somewhere love?” Bog asked cautiously.
It was another minute before she seemed to notice he was there.
“Bog?” she asked, turning to look at him, “what are you doing out of bed?”
“I was kind of wondering the same thing about you” he replied.
“Oh, I’m going home” Marianne said with firm resolution.
“You are home love, come back to bed.”  Bog’s voice was gentle, not pressuring, and etched with sadness.
“The garden folk say I can’t stay long. But we’ll see each other again.” She turned back towards the sky and Bog saw a tear glisten at the corner of her eye.
Bog sat out with her a while longer but the autumn night chilled him quickly and he soon made his way back to bed.
It wasn’t long before Bog woke again, this time Marianne back in bed beside him. He felt relieved, they still had time.
***
In the morning there were fresh flowers in the vase on the kitchen table, as there had been every morning since they moved into the house. Neither Bog nor Marianne had ever picked or bought the flowers. Bog knew as long as there were flowers in the vase Marianne would still be with him.
She entered the kitchen, a plum housecoat wrapped tight around her humming a song, a song Bog knew well….
“I’ll light the fire, while you place the flowers in the vase…”

I FOUND SOME FLUFF FOR YOU GUYS
Dug this out of my old chatlogs with @egoldtist
i think they and i both did a tiny bit of drawings for this one too
here is 50′s au:
sofa: its just the jli as a weird vaguely incompetent 50s biker gang who try to cause A Ruckus but more often than not they just band together to drive out neighborhood threats
sofa: in any period au ted totally kind of hits on booster as a joke, to like tease him, and boosters like haha yeah right funny
sofa : until the dawning realization takes him
shibe : i love that like.... paradoxically.... the more open and queer-friendly a time period is, the more closeted ted is for some reason
shibe: hahahhaha
sofa : yeah omg
shibe : like, the more likely his flirting jokiness is to be taken seriously, the more cautious he becomes
shibe : i feel like if gayness had a death penalty, ted would be running around playing gay chicken like HA HA
sofa : HONESTLY
shibe : what a strange chubby man
sofa : true but i love him
shibe : i'm just imagining biker ted's bike
shibe : which he clearly calls the bug
sofa : oh absolutely
sofa : he probably builds in a side car later
shibe : ahhhhhhh
sofa : because as is soon very apparent, booster should be no where near bikes
shibe : the sidecar is dubbed "skeets"
shibe : because its squeaks
sofa : YES
shibe : booster trying to look intimidating in that sidecare tho
shibe : big goggles and all
shibe : they pull up alongside a convertible and booster has to look UP to stare the driver down
sofa : hes pretty sour about it
shibe : he looks great when they're in the pool hall. he's got a nice leather jacket. he's tall. he's' buff
shibe : but then you follow him out to the parking lot and he hops into that sidecar
sofa : its all over
sofa : he tries to do something to prove hes intimidating which is mostly ted driving around while booster smashes what he can from his sidecar
shibe : with a crowbar
sofa : they knock an old lady's mailbox over but she catches them and theyre like OH SHIT
shibe : DRIVE TED DRIVE
sofa : she catches them and in order to avoid prison time they get stuck using up their whole afternoon fixing it for her
shibe : but they do genuinely feel pretty bad
sofa : true
sofa : they repaint it and everything
sofa : it looks pretty bad but they tried
shibe : bea and tora ride by to just... watch and shake their heads
sofa : honestly
sofa : even guy gets in on it
sofa : just to make fun of them
shibe : guy's the asshole that drives through a mud puddle nearby to get it all over them
sofa : guy better be careful that old lady'll get him too
shibe : are you kidding, he petsits her cats every summer
shibe : (no one knows)
sofa : no one can EVER know
shibe : i'm sure they all go to the ice cream parlor and dance at sock hops
sofa : oh man absolutely
sofa : only about 3 of them can actually dance everyone else is pretty bad
shibe : ted's an amazing dancer for sure
sofa : booster can probably lift up whoever hes dancing with
sofa : ohhh yes absolutely
shibe : BOOSTER AND TED DOING THE JITTERBUG
sofa : YES
shibe : booster being like man, ted, you ever get jealous that the chicks get to wear those poofy petticoats and poodle skirts?
shibe : ted's like whatt
shibe : "ahahhaha  no nothing never mind"
sofa : yessss omfg
shibe : he totally has never been caught wearing michelle's when no one's home
shibe : it's not even a sexual thing, he just loves skirts and dresses
sofa : absolutely
sofa : they just look so GOOD its not FAIR
shibe : they're so SWISHY and POOFY and fun
sofa : theyre probably not as hot either
shibe : than leather? hahahhahah for sure
sofa : ted probably thinks about what he said later like
sofa : its not like he'd look BAD in them- ok wait nO
shibe : buys booster a jacket with a poodle on the back of it
shibe : like here
sofa : BOOSTER LOVES IT
sofa : he looks so happy about it
shibe : BEA COME LOOK AT MY JACKET
sofa : even though he cant wear it out much
shibe : tora tora toraaaaaaaaaaa look at this jacket
sofa : ted got it for me
sofa : teds the BEST
shibe : "why does it have a poodle on it booster"
[8 shibe : it's.... an inside joke
sofa : its between us...... 'friends'
shibe : "by 'friends' do you mean guys that make out in the boys bathroom and smoke together during homeroom"
shibe : BEA
sofa : THATS IT BEA
sofa : teds like "what cant two guys just pal around and kiss each other... for laughs.... come on"
shibe : "it's practice bea"
shibe : "we're practicing for junior prom. i'm gonna ask michelle out"
shibe : "NO UR NOT."
shibe : don't you even LOOK at my sister u creep
sofa : that's how ted realizes hes really, really actually gay
sofa : hes like kissing girls compared to kissing booster is not.. its not as good
sofa : fuck
shibe : he's at prom like "oh geeze"
shibe : "i've made a huge mistake"
sofa : hes so alarmed
sofa : on one hand hes trying to figure out how deep in denial he can be and on the other its like
sofa : what about booster
sofa : does booster like kissing girls more than kissing me
shibe : oh noooooooooooooooooooooo
shibe : booster's across the room slow-dancing with bea and sticks his tongue out at ted
sofa : ted just tries to act natural but hes totally thinking of asking booster to slow dance in private later
shibe : he's like "okay do i come up with an excuse or do i just ask him for real"
shibe : truthfully booster doesn't think kissing ted is like.... a huge amount better than kissing girls.  it's just better with ted because ted is fun and good with mechanics and gets it when booster is complaining about guy stuff
shibe : but then when he considers that dating a girl would mean not kissing ted anymore he's like ........nah i'm good
sofa : no thanks
shibe : i'm dying, just think of bea/tora making a deal with booster/ted to be each other's beards
sofa : OHHH H YES
shibe : they even stage a fake pregnancy scare one time so that eveyrone thinks they're a totally sexually active teen het romance
sofa : the challenge is to not act too outrageous while theyre on 'dates' because ted will start cracking up at any stupid thing booster tries while 'dating' bea
sofa : OHH MY GOD U KIDS
shibe : bea's like "i dunno" but then tora points out that it basically means they get to go on dates for free b/c the guys have to foot the bill
sofa : it leads to extremely cheap dates
sofa : but extremely cheap dates they still don't have to pay for
shibe : i'm trying to imagine ted and booster like.... slow-dancing outside the gymnasium by the dumpster, with earth angel playing tinnily from the door
shibe : cry
sofa : ohhhh no that's too cute
shibe : michelle like... keeping watch on the steps, smiling fondly
sofa : shes very proud of her brother but also: his tastes
sofa : because despite the gang stuff teds obviously still a nerd
shibe : the sheer relief that ted doesn't want to date her for real
sofa : HONESTLY
sofa : im dying purely in thought of all the gestures booster must do that counts as "look we're going steady" but no one will like go out of their way to ask them about
sofa : like giving ted his jacket
shibe : or his ring
shibe : or his pin
sofa : or carrying his books or something
sofa : YEAH
sofa : TEDS SO FLUSTERED but hes gotta keep it cool
shibe : guy thoroughly beating the shit out of anyone that laughs about them behind their backs
sofa : its enough to scare ppl into backing off at least
sofa : guy def still teases them all the damn time tho
shibe : oh totally
shibe : but like, no one else gets to
shibe : guy cracks a joke at their expense and someone in earshot laughs
shibe : and guy just spins around like YOU WANT SOME
sofa : i bet all of them get detention together too
sofa : that's usually when they collaborate with what they have to cover up at least like, 3 of guys worst cuts, and also to fuck around and copy off of ted's homework
shibe : i love that ted is like... a nerdy biker delinquent
shibe : how charming
sofa : YEAH
sofa : ppl are like, hes a bright charming young man, but hes such a trouble maker
sofa : shaking their heads
shibe : FOR HALLOWEEN
shibe : for halloween
shibe : booster dresses in drag and finally finally gets to wear his poodleskirt
shibe : it's the only acceptable time
sofa : YES
sofa : ppl think its a joke and he plays it off as much
shibe : oh for sure
shibe : but inside, he's glowing
shibe michelle plays along and goes as a greaser
sofa : but he keeps shooting these sneaky glances @ ted and ted has to shove him like CMON
shibe : "get it, we're twins, we did a set"
sofa : yesss yes omg
shibe : and at the halloween dance booster finally gets to dance in his poodle skirt
shibe : and he looks amaaaazing
sofa : ted is on fire like. the whole time
sofa : drags booster out back like I NEED TO TALK TO YOU
sofa : (there is 0 actual talking)
shibe : ahahhahhahahha
shibe : yesssss
shibe : it's like, legitimately the best day of booster's life. and that includes the time he made the varsity football team
sofa : yes absolutely
sofa : boosters probably just really glad hes got so much goin for him
sofa : like the varsity team, and a group of people who genuinely like him, and also ted
shibe : and a sister that's really helpful and supportive when she's not teasing him mercilessly
sofa : yes
sofa : auuug h h i just realized booster must have the stupid football jacket too damn it
shibe : ahhahahhahhahahhahahh ayes eysyesyesyesyesyes
sofa : im also thinkin like....... what if...... ted needs glasses... like those really thick ones
sofa : he doesn't wear them unless hes working on something REALLY important but he still def needs them
shibe : ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
shibe : big old coke glasses
shibe : booster reading menus aloud for ted
sofa : yessss omg
sofa : ted also coming over to fix anything that breaks in the carter family house because he knows they cant really afford to hire anybody
shibe : ah oh noooooooooooooo
shibe : booster and michelle working a bunch of jobs to help their mom
sofa : y es omg
sofa : assuming of course teds family is still rich he probably like goes to... any number of their jobs and tips them with like. all his pocket change
sofa : booster keeps telling him not to but he keeps doing it
shibe : booster behind the counter of a soda-jerk place
shibe : and ted's like, yes, i would like to make a special order
shibe : "we don't do substitutions ted. i've told you this. repeatedly"
shibe : not even forrrrrrr twenty bucks??????
shibe : *sides bill over
shibe : ..... i'll go crush up some candy bars and put them in your milkshake. you're the worst
sofa : TED OMG
sofa : hes just there eating it
sofa : completely satisfied with himself
shibe : GOING TO THE DRIVE IN THEATER
sofa : OOHHH BOY
sofa : almost getting kicked out of the drive in theater
sofa : because theyre actually super obnoxious
shibe : tora working as a waitress at a drive in burger place with rollar skates
sofa : yesss yess omg
sofa : i bet tora like
sofa : puts special patches or something on everyones jacket
sofa : just so everyone knows theyre all apart of the gang, together
shibe : oh man of course
shibe : MAYBE TORA
shibe : embroidered the poodle for booster's jacket
shibe : at ted's request
sofa : OHHH YESSSSSSSSS
sofa : the exact moment tora figured out ted was sweet on booster
sofa : one step ahead of the game
shibe : when she gave it to ted, she was like "good luck ted"
shibe : he was like ????? thanks?
sofa : totally went off to gossip abt it with bea and beas just like yessss
sofa : i knew it
shibe : WELL THEY KEEP EXPERIMENTING IN THE BATHROOMS
shibe : it seems obvious in retrospect
-------------------------------------
shibe: do u wanna talk about 50's au
shibe: b/c
shibe: i had a heartbreaking idea
[8/24/2015 9:26:22 PM] couch seat hands: oh my god absolutely yes
shibe: OK SO
shibe: i was thinking about ted going to the dance with michelle
shibe: and i'm like first of all how did she say yes, and was it even his idea
shibe: and i realized like....
shibe: booster got a date with bea first. and then ted was like "well have fun buddy"
shibe: and booster was like NO ur coming too, and ted is like i don't have a date???? and tora's going with guy
shibe:  so BOOSTER was like u need to ask michelle
shibe:  and ted was like hahahha yeah, she'll never say yes in a million years
shibe: and booster's like no, dude trust me
shibe: she'll say yes
shibe: so the next day, he asks michelle and she does say yes??????
shibe: which is awesome but confusing, but really cool
shibe: but then all of the next few weeks leading up to the dance, booster is working tons of extra hours
shibe: and he tells ted it's cool and whatever, but he's looking really really tired and he keeps falling asleep in class b/c he's working late night shifts at the general store
shibe: and long story short, booster's working extra hours so he can pay for michelle to buy a really nice dress and get her hair/makeup done at a salon, which is how he got her to say yes to ted
shibe: and now ted's guilty cuz he's there with michelle and it's not like he imagined it would be at all, but booster worked so hard just so he could go with a girl
sofa: AAAAHHH OH MY GOD
sofa: this KILLS THE MAN
shibe: i'm awful
sofa: u gotta tell me they save a dance for each other
sofa: like 1 at least
shibe: this is the one where they dance back behind the gym so yeah, totally
sofa: OoHHh right
sofa: yesss
shibe: but michelle looks so gorgeous, she is the most beautiful girl there
shibe: and ted still wants booster instead
sofa: aaGGHH
sofa: to be fair the carter twins are probably the most beautiful sibs in school
sofa: but gOD TED
shibe: booster and michelle do a dance together, as siblings, obvs
sofa: yesss
shibe: and then ted's like "can i cut in" and booster's like "oh, sure, ted" and ted's like "... n o can we go talk... outside"
sofa: OHHH
sofa: i am lovin this as a good opportunity to be like so u know how we kissed each other for practice? Well,
sofa: Bc those are the type of scenarios that keep me young
shibe: and michelle followed them and booster's like "NO SHHHhhhhhhhhhhh" and michelle is like
shibe: plz
shibe: we're trwins
shibe: no secrets
shibe: i know all
shibe: just like u know that i'm not a virgin
sofa: DANG MICHELLE
sofa: Michelle and booster are probably like.... the two kids u would least expect to be messing around and generally being delinquents, Bc they look like fuckin hallmark kids and also one of them is a cheerleader and a football star
sofa: but here they are
shibe: they fight tooth and nail for that popularity, hahahha
shibe: michelle with grooming and social ladders, booster with sports and working five different odd jobs
sofa: i imagine any time booster like... fucks up or breaks something at work teds always like I'll cover it don't worry
sofa: cuz obviously he's got the rich kid perks, and spending his money that way pisses off his folks
sofa: booster keeps telling him to cut it out b4 he gets cut off or something
shibe: honestly, i wonder how they started smooching in the first place
shibe: like, given the setting and all
shibe: for the 50's au, i mean
sofa: well i mean i figure it was probably like a "have you ever kissed a girl" "not really.. you?" and they agreed that if they did it strictly for practicing only, at first, it wouldn't be gay
sofa: and then it was
shibe: something like, if it doesn't kiss when you kiss a family member, it doesn't kiss when you kiss a bro
shibe: and also all the anti-homosexual propaganda usually had to do with pedophiles so
shibe: maybe they were just like "well it's nothign like that so"
sofa: ahhh truuu
shibe: oh nooooo
shibe: ted being like "holy shit i'm the worst pervert, NO ONE IS SAFE"
sofa: NOO OMG
sofa: how would booster even sort himself thru it omg
sofa: OR TORA AND BEA FOR THAT MATTER TOO
shibe: i feel like tora and bea get a pass b/c there were totally like
shibe: dime novels about lesbians and shit
shibe: i bet booster would like
shibe: go digging through his history books
shibe: and come back to ted with a long list of non-straight people
shibe: and be like "look, this is so normal, you can still be an awesome inventor when you grow up"
sofa: boOSTER
sofa: GOOOOSH
shibe: but at the same time, being like "if you want to keep this totally under wraps, we can do it. i'm so willing to do that for you"
sofa: i m gonna die holy shit
sofa: ted probably agrees with it because obviously its safer to lie low but hes also totally lousy with guilt
shibe: which is funny, b/c booster doesn't feel bad about it at all?
shibe: he spends tons of time pretending he's not poor as shit
shibe: what's one more charade on the pile
sofa: covers face
sofa: booster gold has fucking. ruined my life
shibe: he's such a sweet kind, innocent, vain asshole
shibe: protect him, universe, just as he protects u
sofa: HONESTLY
sofa: HES FULL OF HIMSELF BUT LIKE.. WHAT ELSE CAN HE DO AT THAT POINT
sofa: pls. what else Does He Have
shibe: ted must have an awful family
shibe: like, a gross dad that wants him to go into business and a sad drugged out housewife ma
sofa: ur probably right
shibe: ted probably lives in a big house
shibe: and booster throws rocks at his window and ted is like I'M ON THE FIRST FLOOR PLZ STOP
sofa: OMG YES
sofa: consistently tries to get ted to sneak out with him in the middle of the night
shibe: he's always getting off work at night and dying to go out for a shake or something
shibe: he's one of those people that gets wired and giddy when they're tired
sofa: absolutely omfg
sofa: those are probably his moments of pranking ingenious
shibe: they put green dye in bea's shampoo
shibe: but then she likes it so much she keeps doing it
shibe: prank failed
sofa: they still try to take credit for it tho later on
sofa: like
sofa: yeah ur welcome
shibe: people giving bea shit for being a "spic" and everyone like JUMPING IN TO FIGHT LIKE HEY
shibe: even tora
shibe: tora straight up pulls a girl's hair out
sofa: OOOHH YES
sofa: tora is very nice, and sweet and polite, but she can be fuckin brutal if need be
sofa: that's why the gang loves her
shibe: they all have polaroids of each other with black eyes and huge grins
sofa: ahhh yes yes yesss omfg
