I never understood Europeans bitching about (North) Americans and their obsession with ancestry until I read the comments on an archaeological article on Facebook 🥴 People will shove their ancestry DNA results down your throat when the conversation has absolutely nothing to do with it 😭

#I don't care that your 462nd great-grandfather was King Fucknutz XIV #Why are you telling people this when it has nothing to do with the article posted #And the thing is it's not even direct lines they brag about #They'll be like 'i'M reLAtED tO dICKwEAsLE III" *posts ancestry DNA screenshot*#Like my dude fill out your family tree you won't be so smug once you see how all of those lines cross 💀#I seriously will never understand why people will tell strangers who they're related to/descended from #My ancestry tree is private; I don't need people knowing who I am or my family is or from whom I'm descended #I'm pretty skeptical of anything that can tell you your DNA comes from x country in the world #It just means that you have a similar genetic profile to a sample of people living in a certain place #You do not inherit every single gene from every single ancestor #That's not how crossing over works #Not to mention that some genes are present only on the Y chromosome #So someone who's XX can neither inherit them nor pass them on #Also some genes are part of mitochondrial DNA #Which is inherited from the mother and the mother only #Mishka'a Ramblings #Also genealogical work shouldn't be about ego and bragging rights #It should be about discovering and connecting with the people who came before you
