A shepherd’s pie, based on the Sister Claire character Henny’s roost, the north star (At least, that’s what I call it, it may actually have a name, I don’t know.)
And sorry for the poor quality of the photos, and my at times rambling.
First! Onion, fine diced. And no, the onion isn’t huge, it’s just the cutting board is really small.
Get a second pot on for some peas and corn, aboot 1.5 cups of each.
Medium heat, oil, brown the onions. You don’t wanna burn them.
That’s the ticket.
Add in the meat, in this case, beef. As a side note, I originally wanted to make this vegetarian, but was veto’d by the people who would be eating this, not because it would be vegetarian, but that they wanted meat. If it was gonna be vegetarian, it would be a mirepoix with mushrooms added late.
Garlic salt.
Onion salt.
About 300g of cheese. Cheddar in this case, a good simple cheese that I’ll blow your minds with later, just giving you a heads up so you prepare accordingly.
Worihsire sauce, a couple of dabs, to help out the meat falvour.
Thickening agent for the meat.
Added some butter to the veg.
Nice even layer, getting the mash ready soon.
NOPE! Layer of cheese, helps keep it together and tastes great. And I’m not even blowing yer minds yet!
This is! Add cheese cubes to the mash!
What’s that? Mind is blown? No? Well I guessed I over-hyped a little.
Now I also know the issue with this part, as like a dullard I didn’t take picture of the mash step, as that was first.
So, I’ll tell you about the mash. It’s yams and sweet potatoes, boiled, strained, mashed, with a little bit of nutritional yeast, and salt and pepper.
And if you want a real good treat, boil longer (Like so it’s almost mush, and just yams), add in more nutritional yeast, salt, no pepper, a bit of coconut milk, and par cooked small florets of cauliflower to make a pseudo cheese snack.
Nice even coating.
Bake for 20 min at 350f.
And yes, this is 8:40 AM, I keep odd hours, this is like, my noon.
Stay hydrated.
That’s a liter mug.
I drink a shoot ton of water.
Yeah, that was refreshing.
Done! 21 minutes at 350.
I don’t know what you’re talking about 20 minutes, I never said that.
Let it cool some, which let’s be honest, it’s pretty cool so far. But I guess I’m talking temperature wise.
Done and ready to be eaten.
And yeah, it’s pretty great.
So yeah, it with minor mods can be made vegetarian, and probably vegan, I hope you all enjoyed my little recipe and I hope you try it out some day.
