My ramblings about Kiko is just below the read more!

Was one (1) year away from graduating from college with a history degree, but then dropped out and got a job in joja corp before quitting to take over grandpa's farm. The whole time frame has just been Kiko negatively spiraling and feeling lost without a purpose. He loves history, but college really was not doing wonders for his mental health and not sure where to go from after the degree

However, after moving to Pelican Town this led to being close with Gunther and developing a more fleshed out friendship as the two geek over the random artifacts Kiko brings to the museum talking about History

Kind of helps penny in regards of teaching about history to Jas and Vincent besides about farming and being a rancher while they're both good friends and after marriage.

Kiko challenges Penny in a way that isn't too shocking for penny. He does what he thinks is right and stands by his friends, but at first him and penny where just shy with each other, mainly on penny's end. Kiko tries to be a good friend first, as he understands her situation with Pam and wants the best for her period.

When not on Castaways Farm Kiko mainly likes to be fishing with willy, playing on the arcade cabinet's at the saloon, the mines (derogatory and reluctance), the spa (beloved), or in the secret woods

With friendship with Harvey it was dork to nerd gravitation or well dork to geek gravitation. They just clicked with each other and fell into a groove from how well they get along. Kiko considers Harvey as one of their best friends in Pelican Town

Absolutely loves Evelyn and does call her granny like she insisted when Kiko first moved in. Kiko has definitely worked his way to eventually getting her cookie recipe. As for George, Kiko also worked his way into his heart and their friendship as Kiko felt determined to get to being friends taking Evelyn and Alex's advice on what George like in his first season in Pelican Town

Actually loves all their farm animals <3 honestly loves being a rancher than a farmer

Was actually feeling a bit isolated and very shy in the first season he moved in. Didn't do great for mental health, but once got over it started coming out of his shell and was feeling more comfortable in himself and for once not feeling lost about himself and his future

Foraging and eating random shit is honestly just how they grew up in Zuzu City due to money being tight growing up, so the first year was not good with how his spending habits while learning the ropes of being a farmer fluctuates to good spending habits and buying too many seeds or buying a thing and underestimated how much money it left him with

I think I'll show the seasonal fits I had in mind for Kiko in the next post this already feels long due to my ramblings ^-^;

But if you want to ask about him don't be shy! There's stuff I didn't want to word vomit onto

Of Milk and Cookies Chapter 18

I'll be honest... It's been years since my last update. Life happened and a lot of my writing took a hit as a result. This story was never truly abandoned, just put aside for awhile, as much as I love this story. Anyway, I am so happy to finally have another chapter ready to share with the world. Hope you all enjoy!

"You have no idea how good it is to eat real food again," Nya declared through a mouthful of pizza. She was finally home after several days of being stuck in her hospital room. The doctors had been concerned about potential infections and had a hard time believing she would stay put if they released her sooner. It had taken a wide array of medical tests (and a lot of begging) to convince them to let her leave. Nya would have danced with glee if not for her stitches. Instead, she settled for a celebratory dinner from her favorite pizza place.

"I can only imagine," Lloyd commented. His own diet lately had been an odd mixture of fast food and local delicacies (some of which were…. Unique for lack of better words) depending on his location throughout the victory tour. He had politely declined her not so subtle attempts to get rid of her bowls of jello and mystery goop by getting someone else to eat them during more than one visit.

"I'm just glad you're okay, Nya," Jay told her, reaching for a slice of pepperoni. He had been extra protective of her since their mad dash to the hospital a few days earlier. Nya wasn't sure if she found it adorable or annoying.

"Yeah, don't scare us like that again." Kai added, earning him a vicious elbow jab from his sister. Nya ignored his yelp of pain.

"I'm fine, guys, really."

"If you're fine, I guess we should put back all the booby traps we found in your room, huh?" Cole offered teasingly. Several of the students of Wu's Academy had chosen to express their excitement at Nya's return by leaving little… surprises in her room.

"Nope. Definitely don't do that," Nya relented. She didn't have the energy to deal with frogs in her bed or whatever else the kids had come up with. "How did Sally and Megan even get in there?" Whoever else may have been involved, those two were almost always the ringleaders when it came to annoying Nya.

"It wouldn't surprise me if Brad taught them to pick locks," Lloyd offered with a shrug. As much as his friend had changed, Lloyd was sure he could still be a menace when he wanted to be.

"Eh. That tracks. I gotta say, I like that kid way better when he's focused on his gardening instead of causing chaos." Nya might find Brad annoying, but she had to admit he had done wonders with the school's flowerbeds.

"He has really been trying to turn over a new leaf lately. I'm proud of him," Stated Zane. The others nodded in agreement. Brad had come a long ways since they had first met him during the Evil Clone Incident.

"With a granny like his, I'm not surprised. She scares me." Jay shuddered.

"Hey, now," Lloyd said. He took a bite of pizza before continuing. "Everyone needs a slightly terrifying old person in their lives. Brad has his granny and we have Uncle Wu."

"You find Wu terrifying?" Zane asked, skeptical. He found it difficult to see Wu as particularly threatening. On most days, at least.

"Well yeah - Sometimes." The green ninja sheepishly admitted. He was fully aware that most people probably expected his father to be the relative he found scary. And Garmadon was scary, too, but things were different now that he was free of the Great Devourer's venom. Wu was a menace because he wanted to be, not because of any outside influences.

"Have you seen how quickly Wu can move when he wants to be sneaky? I swear the guy gives me a heart attack at least once a week popping up behind me when I'm in the middle of something!" Jay exclaimed, "I'm with Lloyd on this one."

"You probably shouldn't say that in front of Wu. It'll just encourage him," Kai commented.

"Yeah," Cole agreed, "Don't give him any ideas. One time I told him he might wanna sing a little more quietly in the shower… So He sang louder instead."

Nya stifled a giggle. Their uptight mentor certainly knew how to mess with people when he wasn't forcing them out of bed hellishly early to train. No one except maybe Zane appreciated that. Speaking of beds, Nya was beginning to think hers sounded like a rather nice place to be right about now. Definitely more inviting than the hospital cot had been. With a thick pile of fuzzy blankets and plenty of extra pillows. Mmm… Yes… Bed… sleep. She had a lot of sleep to catch up on…

"Ugh. I hate to say it, but I'm about ready to fall asleep at the table. All the pain meds they had me on really wiped me out," Nya admitted, yawning. Several of the others began to boo loudly at this announcement.

"Oh stop it you guys. You managed to survive a weekend without me. I'm sure you can survive a little longer," Nya told them. She rolled her eyes at the ridiculously pathetic looks Lloyd and Jay were giving her. She wouldn't be giving in to their pleading puppy eyes routine. Not this time.

"Aww fine…" Lloyd was the first to relent. "But at least have some dessert before you go?" He leapt up from his seat and disappeared into the kitchen to retrieve a grocery bag with several boxes of frosted sugar cookies. Nya stared longingly at them and said,

"I guess I could be convinced to stay up a few more minutes." She couldn't help it. The cookies were calling to her.

"That's what I figured," Lloyd replied. He really was an expert at the Bribing Nya game. It was a skill worth being proud of.

"Wait, wait, wait!" Cole interjected, "we can't have cookies without milk. It's practically illegal."

"Truth. I got it!" Jay announced. Glasses and a jug of milk were quickly added to the assortment of cookies Lloyd was arranging on the table.

"I propose a toast," Kai stated, pouring himself a cup of milk, "To Nya not dying and finally escaping the hospital."

The sound of glasses clinking followed as the others repeated, "To Nya not dying and finally escaping the hospital!"

It really was good to be home.

Checking In

It's been a wonderful few days here on the Pullen spread. Matt has been in town and he's always such good company. We've had a lot of laughs, eaten too much holiday food, and just enjoyed being together. The Edgewater gang went down to Tennessee for Turkey Day, but I've had two calls from our Little Miss and have seen loads of pictures - they're having a ball. They'll be home on Sunday, Matt will fly out this evening, and we'll all brace ourselves for Christmas. We're getting decorated, my cards have arrived, and I'm ready to start wrapping gifts. The mister and I may wander into D.C. and visit the Christmas market, or we may opt to go to Baltimore's Inner Harbor - they do a big German Christmas village with loads of vendors (and German food!). Chestertown, on our side of the bridge, will have their Dickens Christmas festival the first weekend of December. We'll definitely give that a go. Doesn't look like we'll lack for Christmas cheer. I've volunteered to work the Friends of the Library booth at the Ridgley Christmas shindig, we'll see if they plug me into the schedule. I think that's on the 9th. It's tiiiiime!

In other news....I GOT A JOB! The Caroline County Library looked past my pink fluff (and maybe my age) and offered me a position! Yippee! I'll start January 16th, so come on over and see the nice granny at the library, she'll help you with anything you need. I never thought I'd be starting a new job at age 60, but I truly think it's going to be good for me in many ways. I can't just rot in this house. When the offer was made and salary and start date settled, I was reminded that this was, of course, pending a clean background check. Why is it, that even when you know you haven't had so much as a speeding ticket in decades, you wonder if you'll pass the background check? No one has lived a more vanilla life than I have, but what if they uncover that I skipped school in 1980 and egged a rival high school? I'll bet the people doing my background check weren't even born in 1980. What's the statute of limitations of egging? I may also have knowledge of several toilet papering incidents. That's it, I'm sunk.

Moving right along. I've got several artsy projects going. It looks like a glitter factory exploded in my craft room and that makes me happy. Look at these little chests (don't look at my mess).

Those are going to be tooth fairy boxes! My grandgirl and my sister's grandson are about the same age, both in kindergarten and nearing the snaggletooth stage of life. I''ll touch up the paint on these, glue in a little cushion, and place a little scroll inside printed with a poem I wrote for them: The Tooth Fairy Riding a moonbeam, she enters our land With glittering wings and a pouch in her hand Searching for treasure, a fairy's delight, a child's lost tooth, shiny and white. Upon finding a tooth that pleases her eyes, she leaves that lucky child a surprise So take care of your teeth, do your best When one is lost, use this chest Close your eyes, drift and dream She'll soon arrive on a silver moonbeam When you wake, look inside And see what treats a fairy hides

Okay, it's rough, but it'll work for little kids. It's all about the magic, folks. Make as much magic as you can for as long as you can. If it includes glitter, even better. Okie dokie, time for me to get busy around here. There are decorations to hang, things to sparkle, and cookies to eat. I hope you're doing something fun today, too. Whether that means shopping with the crowds or watching Hallmark movies and drinking hot cocoa, do it! Let's make a pact to send 2023 on its way in a cloud of merriment and happiness. Kit's lips twitch and she manages to keep from grinning at Kage's wardrobe change but she couldn't resist teasing just a little bit "I haven't got to say it yet but your new look Suits you." she said with a snicker.

She held up a a hand and the tin in surrender. "Sorry, sorry. I came to say thanks. Byakko was telling me about her adventures and how nervous she'd been meeting you and Akarui but that you were really nice to her." That and the little kitsune couldn't stop gushing about the different magics of the miniverse and how amazing both skeleton brothers were but Kit kep that to herself and sighed with a smile.

"She wanted to make you something special. It's caramel apple cookies, made with granny smith apples. We tried for actual candy apples.... but it did not go well." It was a MESS. Kit grimaced thinking about the disaster that was their kitchen. "So we went with the next closest thing. Bya would have brought them herself but she got too shy. I told her I'd bring them too you. Besides, I wanted to say thanks personally for looking out for her when Shakko took off." 

Kit blushed little and looked off to the side but continued sincerely, "So thank you. From both of us. .... please take the dang cookies" 

Kage noticed he was still wearing Copper's hat he reached up and flicked it off clearing his throat.

"All good...I'll still eat it..good kids, smart and all that, Byakko needs a confidence boost though.." he sighed accepting the tin.

"Look I'm the jealous kind of skele-guy, not ashamed to admit either, so I've been wanting to ask..you're not gonna do any funny business with my fiance' when I'm not around are ya' after what happened the last time well...I need reassurance."

I'm housesitting for my Nana and like. where they (she and my grandfather, when he was still alive) used to live is where we would stay when we visited on various vacations over the years whether it was for Christmas, or spring break or summer break, or Thanksgiving, and I grew up in that house of theirs that was 8-10 hours away by car, and longer after we moved. then they moved and they live 45 minutes away now, my Nana does at least because my Papa passed in March 2020 from cancer. but it's so... almost weird, to see how things got repurposed from one house to another. there was a bench they had that doubled as storage, you could lift the lid and put stuff in it, and it used to be where we'd sit at the back door and put on and take off our snow boots and shed our outdoor clothes, or put on our shoes before we left because it was in the kitchen and tile, no shoes on the carpet, etc. now that bench is in the master bathroom used for towels. old little funny framed messages - for example, "One gorgeous being and one grouch live here" - are in the first floor half bathroom. all the baby pictures of the grandkids that used to hang above on the wall, above the table in the kitchen, lining the entirety of one wall, now hang in the stairway, because the house is so much smaller. the garage isn't attached to the house like the old place, and is big enough to fit the car and the trash bins and some other junk, but never again will I be able to experience the northeastern winter season and run back to the garage with my relatives to drink hot chocolate and eat gingerbread cookies my Nana brought out. I'll never again be able to see my Papa tinkering out in the garage either, or down in his basement workshop that was so dimly lit it would terrify me and gave me nightmares, because both my Papa and the basement are gone. the couches and chairs remain, except for my Papa's recliner; after he passed the memory was too much to hold onto, and it was tossed. their little dog would look out the window of the living room in their old house at the dog next door and watch him run around, but now in her older years she begs to climb up on you or just lays on the back of the couch and looks out the window in their significantly smaller backyard and watches for birds, for squirrels. they had to downsize all those years ago, the taxes in New York were expensive and they wanted to be down here, but regardless of where they moved they'd be by family, but by moving down here they were closer to the mountains that decades ago my Nana called home before my Papa whisked her away and it was over 50 years before she saw old friends from high school again, went to her high school reunion. but in those mountains my Nana called home, where her family was from, is now where my Papa is buried, amongst her relatives, most of which he probably never knew, but he is there among them, and one day my Nana and their dog will be buried there, too, with my Papa, across from Granny's house and the creek my dad and his siblings played in. and I realize that as sad as I was to lose their home in New York I grew up in and so dearly loved, they were, in essence, returning to their original home, where on the clearest nights the mountains graze the sky and the stars are the clearest you'll ever see them. home is relative, home is permanent. home is in your memories and absolute. it changes, but you'll always have one to return to.

i don’t know it’s just a pretty bad period, i said it a thousand times already bc i’m always whiny and repetitive and pathetic and i’m really sorry about that. my granny passed away in october and sadness hit me really bad today bc it would’ve been her birthday. i guess i’ll just try to sleep and don’t think too much. i’m sorry i’m bothering you as usual. thank you for your sweet words, i love you so much, goodnight cuore.
