ab kal ke match ka heartfelt ramble ka waqt aaya hai honestly there's sm energy in me and it has to go somewhere, I'm gonna start off with the tournament as a whole, because some teams like Afghanistan and South Africa do deserve their appreciation as well. They both managed to do what their own teams before then failed to- playing a final and semi-final is a feat worth achieving ✨🙌🏻 and they managed to do it. We saw some good old West Indies back and that brought back a sense of childhood who had seen the likes of DJ Bravo and Chris Gayle play. Now as a fellow indian, seeing the Australian being defeated by Afghanistan and then later us 🥳 only to pin down their hope on Bangladesh- IT FELT SO SURREAL, LIKE YES BITCH CUMMINS THAT'S WHAT YOU GET FOR BEING SO RUDE (and 19 Nov ka badla hum toh Aussies se bohot baar lenge, with dugna lagaan)
Ind vs Eng, was the ultimate banger for me, the whole transition from a 10 wicket loss to 10 wicket haul was just amazing!! And sometimes we Indians forget the essence of our own bowlers in our team, but this wc was all about bowlers (ours and other countries)- after the ipl bashing, this entire month must have felt so hopeful to them. We got so many players like Bumrah, Maharaja, Rashid Khan, Naveen-ul-Haq defending low scoring matches- these matches that kept us as audience on edge. What a beautiful time to be a skilled bowler!
Now coming to yesterday, as a person that had nothing against South Africa as such but only had love for India- I deeply feel sorrow for your loss. I guess, we Indians know better than anyone how it feels to win all matches and then lose the final. I believe, your captain Markram is gonna do the magic our Rohit Sharma did last night. You just have to believe in him!
And to my beautiful Men in Blue- kal toh dil jeet liya 🥹🙌🏻 Everyone had been so worked up in the entire tournament. All of 11 players deserved the world cup, especially those that had played the 19 Nov. Last night's match was taking my breath away every over, it was so suspenseful and thriller and in the words of Sidhu "yeh match nazuk dil walo ke liye nahi hai" and it definitely wasn't and Bapu tumne toh humari jaan leli kal with that over (jeet mei sab maaf hai) but thank you Sky for taking the catch which people will talk about 10 years from now and thank you Hardik for not breaking our trust in that last over (Rohit did kiss you on behalf of 1.5 billion people yesterday 😚) but more than thank you to Captain that ended the trophy draught and thank you to the Coaches! ❤️
To Rahul Dravid, who was so intense yesterday- Indiranagar ka gunda jag gaya kal full 🥹😂 but thank you so much for making us what we are!! We are going to miss you so much 🫂🥹 and to Rohit and Kohli, we aren't sure if t20i will ever be same without you.
to the indian cricket team, WE ARE SO FUCKING PROUD OF YOU!! 💙🇮🇳

also i really love that story of pat backing up his bowlers! what was the player's name?
His name's Nataranjan (Nattu).
But even NKR (Nitish Kumar Reddy) said that he was afraid Pat wasn't gonna recognize his skills since he had arrived late for the ipl. But Patty had said that "Nitish, you play really well." And that he had watched his videos on yt. So that had given NKR confidence.
Then Abhi also said something in that line i guess when Pat gave him bowling during the semi-finals and he took wickets.
Also, in the 1st match against PBKS, this guy, Unadkat, was bowling in the death. And he bowls real good but that day the fielders missed his catches. So you could see that he got agitated. Then Patty went to him, kept his arms around his shoulders, smiled, and talked to him. After that Unadkat got a wicket. And SRH won by 2 runs. (:
[And my friends ask why I like him. Pffttt]
AWWWW OH MY GOD 🥹😍
i LOVE that thankyou so much!! patty is a really good bloke and such a great captain it's honestly kind of infuriating - not to mention how he bowls or how good looking he is 😒
i really need to catch up on srh stuff don't i... but like hey it's not my fault greenie had such a compelling summer 😭😭

Jos is any day a better T20 batsman than VK. VK has got more records, but the impact Jos has is unparalleled
HAHAHAHAHAHA 🤣🤣🤣
I'm sorry but
HAHAHAHAHA 🤣🤣🤣
I'm curious, what exactly is considered "impact"? How about being the highest run-scorer of 2 T20 World Cups? How about being the player of the tournament in consecutive T20 World Cups? Virat did that. You know what else he did? India played 6 knockout matches between 2014 and 2024. Virat has made a half century or more than that in 5 out of those 6 matches. That's just shy of 400 runs in 6 matches. It makes his average in T20 WC knockout matches over 90. If that's not impactful, I don't know what is.
Is impact related to strike rate? Virat scored 70 off 29 against West Indies, 94 in some 50 odd balls against WI, and his century against Afghanistan came in 52 balls. The first knock has a strike rate of over 200. Virat chased down 48 off the last 3 overs against Pakistan at the MCG in 2022 and 39 off the last 3 overs against Australia at Mohali in 2016. The latter was a virtual quarter final, and Virat's knock guaranteed India's progress to the semi finals.
Is impact related to hitting sixes? Well, for all that Jos is a renowned six-hitter, it was Virat's six against Haris Rauf at the MCG was declared the shot of the century by ICC. An equation that read 28 off 8 became 16 off 6. It was Virat who hit the two sixes that were required to get it down till here.
Virat has time and again won matches out of nowhere for India. The Mohali 82 against Australia, the MCG 82 against Pakistan, the 72 in 2014 SFs vs South Africa, I can go on and on here-- Heck, Virat was most of the, if not the sole reason that India got as far as they did in the 2014, 2016 and 2022 editions of the T20 World Cup. He is a massively impactful player, who delivers whenever needed. Even yesterday's final, take Virat's 76 out of the equation and we had only a 100 on the board to defend. I doubt even Jasprit could have done much with that.
Virat ended his career in T20s as unquestionably the best T20 player of this generation. Nobody comes close to having the kind of impact he does on the game. He carried India in almost every single T20 World Cup he played, and nobody deserved to lift that trophy as much as he did.
I did not intend this as an insult to Jos. He is a great player, one of the very best to have played the game, but he's not better than Virat. Nope, sorry, he isn't. And it isn't limited to Jos either. There isn't any player in the world, not Rohit, not Warner, not Babar, not Maxwell, no nobody in this generation comes close to having the kind of class, poise and impact of Kohli in T20s.
People are allowed differing opinions - sure, the stats say Virat but in terms of coming in when the team needs and changing the game momentum Jos is one of the best at having an impact
Numbers aren’t always everything, I think is the point the original ask was making. And honestly, looking at the tournament that just concluded, VK really only made an impact in the final, whilst Jos was a lynchpin to a lot of England’s batting innings.
Not saying you’re wrong and - as I said - everyone has opinions and it’s great they’re different because it allows us to discuss thing :) But I think the original ask was talking more about match impact than stats. There is a reason he was RR’s impact batsman for the IPL this year.

Royal Challengers Bangalore: A Journey Through the IPL Seasons
Tumblr media
The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is one of the most popular franchises in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Known for their passionate fan base, star-studded line-ups, and thrilling performances, RCB’s journey through the IPL seasons has been a rollercoaster ride filled with highs and lows. Here’s a comprehensive look at RCB’s journey through the IPL seasons.
Stay updated on the RCB Team Players List for the IPL, with detailed squad information and the playing schedule, in our extensive guide RCB Team Players List.
2008: The Inaugural Season
RCB had a rocky start in the inaugural IPL season. Despite having legendary players like Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble, and Jacques Kallis, they finished seventh in the eight-team tournament. The team struggled to find the right balance and consistency, winning only four out of 14 matches.
2009: Runners-Up
Under the captaincy of Anil Kumble, RCB made a remarkable turnaround in the 2009 season, which was held in South Africa due to the general elections in India. The team finished third in the league stage and reached the final, losing to Deccan Chargers by six runs. Ross Taylor and Manish Pandey were among the standout performers.
2010: Semi-Finalists
RCB continued their strong performance in 2010, finishing third in the league stage. They made it to the semi-finals but were defeated by the Mumbai Indians. The season saw Virat Kohli emerge as a key player for the team alongside star performers like Jacques Kallis and Robin Uthappa.
2011: Finalists
The 2011 season was another strong showing for RCB. Led by Daniel Vettori, and with the explosive Chris Gayle joining the squad, they finished top of the league table. Gayle’s incredible batting, including his 175* against Pune Warriors, was a highlight. However, they fell short in the final against Chennai Super Kings.
2012-2013: Struggles and Near Misses
The next two seasons were disappointing for RCB. In 2012, they finished fifth, narrowly missing out on the playoffs. Chris Gayle continued to dominate with the bat, but the team’s inconsistency cost them. In 2013, despite another strong showing from Gayle and Kohli, they finished fifth again.
2014: A Season of Change
The 2014 season saw a major overhaul in the squad and support staff. Despite high expectations, RCB finished seventh. Kohli and AB de Villiers showed flashes of brilliance, but the team struggled to find momentum.
2015: A Return to Form
In 2015, RCB returned to form, finishing third in the league stage. They made it to the second qualifier but were knocked out by Chennai Super Kings. Kohli, de Villiers, and Gayle formed a formidable batting trio, and Mitchell Starc’s bowling strengthened the team.
2016: Heartbreak in the Final
The 2016 season is one of the most memorable for RCB fans. Virat Kohli had a record-breaking season, scoring 973 runs, including four centuries. RCB finished second in the league stage and made it to the final, where they were defeated by Sunrisers Hyderabad in a high-scoring thriller.
2017-2019: A Period of Struggle
The subsequent seasons were tough for RCB. In 2017, they finished last, managing only three wins. The 2018 season saw some improvement, but they still finished sixth. The 2019 season was another disappointment, with RCB finishing at the bottom of the table again. Despite having star players, the team struggled with consistency and balance.
2020: Return to Playoffs
The 2020 season, held in the UAE due to the COVID-19 pandemic, saw RCB making a comeback. They finished fourth in the league stage, reaching the playoffs for the first time since 2016. However, they were eliminated by Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator. Kohli, de Villiers, and young talent Devdutt Padikkal were standout performers.
2021: Consistent Performance
RCB had a strong 2021 season, finishing third in the league stage. They made it to the Eliminator but were knocked out by Kolkata Knight Riders. The season saw the emergence of Harshal Patel, who won the Purple Cap for being the highest wicket-taker. Glenn Maxwell also made a significant impact with his all-round performances.
2022: Playoffs Again
In 2022, RCB continued their consistent run, finishing fourth in the league stage. They reached the second qualifier but were eliminated by Rajasthan Royals. Faf du Plessis joined the team and made significant contributions, adding depth to the batting line-up alongside Kohli and de Villiers.
2023: Building for the Future
The 2023 season saw RCB focusing on building a strong core of young players while retaining their experienced stars. They finished fifth, narrowly missing out on the playoffs. The season highlighted the potential of new talents like Rajat Patidar and Shahbaz Ahmed, showing promise for the future.
2024: The Quest for the Title
In the 2024 season, RCB aims to build on its recent performances and make a strong bid for the IPL title. With a mix of experienced players and promising newcomers, the team has shown a renewed sense of determination and focus. Key players like Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis, Glenn Maxwell, and young talents are expected to play crucial roles. Fans are hopeful that RCB’s quest for their maiden IPL title will finally come to fruition this year.
Conclusion
The journey of Royal Challengers Bangalore through the IPL seasons has been a mix of exhilarating highs and frustrating lows. Despite not having won the IPL title yet, RCB remains one of the most beloved franchises, known for their passionate fans and star-studded line-ups. With a strong core of players and a focus on building for the future, RCB’s quest for their maiden IPL title continues, keeping their fans hopeful and excited for future seasons.

Gambhir's Touching Acknowledgment of Kohli's 50th ODI Century
Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir's recent response to a question about Virat Kohli's 50th ODI century has stirred attention on social media. The exchange is notable as the two cricketing legends had a heated IPL 2023 encounter when Gambhir served as Lucknow Super Giants' mentor. This incident wasn't the first spat between them, as a similar altercation occurred during the IPL 2013 match between RCB and KKR.
Tumblr media
In a viral clip on Star Sports, Gambhir confidently identified New Zealand pacer Lockie Ferguson as the bowler against whom Kohli scored his 50th hundred. Piyush Chawla, another expert, was impressed with Gambhir's response. Gambhir expressed satisfaction, emphasizing that his conflicts with Kohli are confined to the cricket field.
Kohli achieved his 50th ODI century during the World Cup semi-final against New Zealand, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar's record. The duo, who played together for the Indian cricket team and Delhi's Ranji team, shared crucial partnerships, including the 2011 final. Kohli's maiden ODI century was scored with Gambhir at the other end, and despite Gambhir earning the Player of the Match award for his century, he graciously handed it to Kohli.
Gambhir's heartwarming acknowledgment of Kohli's achievement occurred during a discussion on India's 3rd ODI against South Africa. The Indian batting stalwart is set to return in the Boxing Day Test match against South Africa at Centurion.

[ad_1] New Zealand star Daryl Mitchell expressed his gratitude and disbelief at securing a significant ₹14 crore deal with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. Mitchell, who became the third player to hit the million-dollar mark in the Dubai auction, emphasized that this opportunity would greatly contribute to setting up his family. He acknowledged feeling fortunate and lucky to join the prestigious CSK franchise, a five-time IPL champion. Daryl Mitchell plays a shot during the 2023 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup one-day international (ODI) first semi-final match between India and New Zealand(AFP) Reflecting on the memorable auction day, Mitchell shared that he was eagerly watching the proceedings when his name was announced. The experience was particularly special as it coincided with his eldest daughter Addie's birthday. While wrapping birthday presents, Mitchell was glued to the screen, and his excitement reached new heights when CSK secured his services. Stay tuned with breaking news on HT Channel on Facebook. Join Now Following the successful bid, Mitchell promptly reached out to CSK's head coach and former New Zealand captain, Stephen Fleming. In the aftermath of the auction, Mitchell revealed that his teammate, all-rounder Mitchell Santner, was the first to contact him, further underscoring the camaraderie within the cricketing community. "Yeah, your heart starts to pump a little bit as you see the paddles going up. And yeah, having been through an auction before and going unsold, it was a special night last night to experience that, and now to obviously be part of the Chennai Super Kings is an exciting time," Mitchell said as quoted by ESPNCricinfo. "[Elder daughter] Addie's birthday today, so there was a bit of wrapping up presents and stuff like that while the auction was going on. At the auction, you do not quite know exactly when you're going to come up in the list. So yeah, I guess we were just trying to keep ourselves busy and watching it, and then, when it popped up, I guess you end up being glued to the screen to see what happens." “As soon as it is all done, your phone goes off pretty quickly, and Chennai gets in touch with you, speak with the manager and Flem [head coach Stephen Fleming], in contact with them to get a few things sorted and becoming part of the Chennai Super Kings team. It all happens pretty quickly. At the moment, I guess I am still pinching myself [because of] how lucky and grateful I am for this opportunity and looking forward to getting stuck into it in a few months' time.” Mitchell is an established member of the Kiwi batting line-up across all formats, having played 20 Tests, 39 ODIs and 56 T20Is. In the last season of the IPL, the Kiwi opener did not take part in the tournament. His last season was in 2022 with Rajasthan Royals (RR). He played only two matches in the extravagant T20 tournament and scored 33 runs. "It is my oldest daughter's fifth birthday today, so I got her a pretty good present waking up. Not that she understands what is going on, but yeah, look, I guess that is the whole thing about these sorts of situations, it will help us set up the family in many ways, [the two daughters can] grow up and enjoy the things they love, and for me, that is the really cool thing about it, and they are the reason why you do all this," said Mitchell. MAKE TOURNAMENT FORMATS GREAT AGAIN
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
One of the disappointments of the recently concluded ICC Men's World Cup(cricket) was how how few teams participated in it. A mere nine as compared with fourteen in 2011, the last time a 50 overs world cup was held on subcontinental soil. The main reason of course is that the BCCI(and ICC) used the unimaginative single tier round robin format prior to the semis. The number of matches grows very quickly with the number of teams. As it is, there were 48 matches in the world cup. Even one more team added would have increased the number of matches to 58. It isn't merely lack of imagination however. One concern that fans may disdain - but an actual governing body cannot ignore - is the risk of a major country getting eliminated early because of smaller groups in some split-group or multi-tier league phase arrangement, and the major financial losses this will create for investors. India's early elimination in 2007 was an instance of this happening, and the losses suffered by investors in the event must have been massive, given how lopsidedly Indian the game's fan base is.
I believe I have discovered a way of accomodating more teams, minimising the risk of early eliminations, ensuring that early games are still significant to teams's progress in the event, and still keeping matches down to a manageable number. Further advantages will also become apparent. The format is as follows: 15 originally competing teams are divided into 3 groups of 5 each. The top teams are portioned out sensibly into the 3 groups ensuring not more than 3 such teams go into a single group. At the end of the round robin in all the groups(a total of 30 matches) 9 teams - 3 from each group - qualify for the next round. The chance of one of the big teams playing sufficiently poorly, over four matches, to not even qualify third in their group is quite small. The 9 teams are then ranked by net run rate(henceforth NRR) and the top six teams qualify for the SUPERSIXES and the bottom three for a SURVIVOR TRIANGLE. The survivor triangle will play a round robin at the end of which(appealing again to NRR if necessary) a single team will remain in contention. But since two teams are eliminated in the survivor triangle round, this will be postponed after the supersixes in which a single team will be eliminated. For the supersixes, the teams are divided into two groups(teams placed at 1, 3, and 5 on NRR go into group A and those placed at 2, 4, and 6 into group B), and everyone in group A plays everyone in group B(a total of 9 games bringing the overall tally to 39)At the end of the supersixes, the top two teams qualify directly for the first qualifier semifinal(we will use IPL-style semis) and only the team that finishes last will be eliminated. Subsequently we hold the survivor triangle round robin(3 more matches, and the tally now goes to 42 games) and the single team that qualifies alongside those that finished at 3, 4, and 5 in the supersixes will now compete in the SUPERFOURS. The format will be similar to the supersixes - the teams will be divided into two groups, with those ranking at 1 and 3 on NRR in group A and those ranking at 2 and 4 in group B - then everyone in group A plays everyone in group B(4 more games bringing the tally to 46) The top two teams in the superfours qualify for the first eliminator semifinal. 3 semis and 1 final later, we have done only 50 games - just two more than the single round robin format with 9 teams. As I mentioned, eliminations are not very likely in the first round, and at the end of 42 games, only three teams out of the nine second round qualifiers has been eliminated(which would happen - virtually - even with a big round robin) But at the same time, how well a team plays early on matters. Teams playing very poorly at the start don't get a free ride, necessarily playing a certain number of games by virtue of the format, as happens in a big round robin. Even among first-round qualifiers, qualifying for the supersixes is a big advantage since only one team gets eliminated out of six(as opposed to two out of three in the survivor triangle) and you have a shot at qualifying for the qualifier semifinal. Also you play one more game enabling you to vet local conditions better. Teams that take care of NRR in the first round are well served by it. A further advantage with the format is that you have a chance of teams playing each each other several times at different stages which enables head-to-head showdowns between big teams to bring real depth to the tournament. Finally the IPL-style semis are an improvement. In the traditional format 1 plays 4 and 2 plays 3. 2 vs 3 is usually a good game but 1 vs 4 is usually a dud. If instead 1 plays 4(1st qualifier) with the winner going through to the final, 3 plays 4(1st eliminator) with the loser being eliminated, and the loser of the first game playing the winner of the second(2nd eliminator) with the winner going through to the final, you have three well-matched contests and the first qualifier is a possible final before the final for what it is worth tactically and psychologically
A final thought. None of this is very specific to cricket. Even in other sports, organizers may have a challenge balancing the desiderata of - a) a not excessive number of games, b) limited risk of early eliminations of big teams, and c) a large playing field of initial contenders - which seem to pull in different directions. And the only part that is specific to cricket - NRR - can be substituted with a similar performance index(as an alternative and tiebreaker to win counts) in other sports. Any given performance index will have its flaws of course(NRR certainly does) but if we are not too perfectionist, many reasonably satisfactory measures of overall performance can be found. Any one of those can be used to advantage

Yuvraj Singh, the hero of the 2011 World Cup, believes that Team India will definitely qualify for the semi-finals of the upcoming World Cup. Yuvraj, who attended the Vicks Chair Anthem program for the upcoming global tournament, said that it is wrong to label Team India as underdogs; after all, we have won three World Cups. Sukant Saurabh had a special conversation with Yuvraj Singh about the upcoming World Cup, and here are the main points: Is there any particular area in the current Indian team that needs special attention? - I think our team had less game time; we haven't played many ODIs because T20 is more prevalent now. The good thing is that all the middle-order batsmen are in form. Surya Kumar Yadav is in form, Shreyas Iyer has returned to form, KL Rahul scored a century after recovering from an injury, Ishan Kishan has been performing consistently for a long time; this is a very positive sign. It's a headache for the captain and coach to decide who to play and who to bench. Jasprit Bumrah has made a comeback at the right time. So, I think our combination is good now. However, we need to prepare a balanced combination in the first two or three matches. We also need to see if we'll play an extra spinner or a fast bowler based on the pitch conditions. In the last three ODIs we played against Australia, all the pitches were flat. Will we see similar pitches in the World Cup? - I think we will see such pitches, and there will be high-scoring matches. Another thing is that grounds in India are relatively smaller. Now, with the new rule where five fielders are allowed inside the 30-yard circle and two new balls, it benefits the batsmen more. Certainly, all matches will be high-scoring, and in matches where there's a low score, I believe we have bowlers who can defend it. Since 2011, no country that has hosted the World Cup has become the champion. Can we continue what we started? - According to me, we shouldn't take that kind of pressure. If you want to win the World Cup, you have to defeat every team. You have to become the best team. If you look at the 1983 World Cup, we defeated the best team, West Indies. In 2011, if you see, we defeated the reigning champions, Australia. If you want to win this World Cup, you have to beat the best team. According to me, the semi-final will be a high-pressure game because this format is different. In that match, there will be pressure on a good team, and we have to win that pressure match. However, by the time we reach the semi-finals, we will have played 10-11 matches, so we will have enough game time. I have full confidence that Team India will qualify for the semi-finals. We haven't won an ICC trophy in the last 10 years. Our team is not becoming champions. What should Team India focus on in pressure matches? Read more : Yuzvendra Chahal Reacts to Being Left Out of the 2023 World Cup Squad - My view on this is entirely different. An underdog is someone who has never won a tournament and has lost in every pressure match. We are the team that has won three World Cups. We reached the final twice and lost once. Pakistan played exceptionally well that time, and there's no doubt about it. And when we lost to Australia in the Test Championship final this time, we had only four days of preparation after the IPL, whereas Australia had already played a Test match there. No one pays attention to these factors - how much time was available for preparation, how much game time the team had. There's no doubt that Australia played very well. I don't think we are underdogs. I'm not denying that we haven't won a major tournament in a long time, but no team has consistently performed like that. I understand that we are talking about Team India, but I believe our team has the capability to win big matches. In such global tournaments, how crucial are all-rounders in achieving victory? Who will be the X-factor for the team this time? - I believe that Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja will make significant contributions to the team this time. Their performance will be crucial to our team's success." Read the full article
