Foodie Friday!  This is my recipe coming up in this Sunday's ITKWD.  It's inspired by the Wafels & Dinges food truck, this ice cream sandwich is made with 2 delicious waffles! Strawberry Shortcake Ice Cream Sandwich Makes 4   Tip: Put this recipe on a stick! Take a popsicle stick & push it a quarter of the way into the ice cream before the initial freezing.   Ingredients: 2 cups all-purpose baking mix 1 Tbsp sugar 1 cup milk 1-1/2 tsp vanilla extract 1 pint strawberry ice cream, divided 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate 1/4 cup, plus 1 Tbsp, coconut oil, divided 3/4 cup white chocolate   Preparation: 1. Preheat an electric waffle maker according to the manufacturer’s directions.   2. In a medium-size mixing bowl, combine the baking mix and sugar. Stir in the milk and vanilla extract. Use this batter to make 2 waffles according to the manufacturer’s directions.   3. Let the waffles cool, then break them apart into 8 triangles. Separate into 2 groups of 4.   4. For 1 group of 4, spread 1/2 cup ice cream over each triangle. Top each with 1 of the remaining 4 triangles to make a sandwich. Freeze for at least 1 hour.   5. Meanwhile, in a double boiler, melt the semi-sweet chocolate with 1/4 cup coconut oil. In another double boiler, melt the white chocolate with 1 Tbsp coconut oil.   6. When the waffles are frozen, spoon the semi-sweet chocolate over the entirety of each sandwich, one at a time, and put them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.   7. Using a spoon, drizzle the melted white chocolate back and forth across the semi-sweet chocolate.   8. Girliemom talks with Mary DeAngelis from QVC
At Girliemom we are so happy to introduce you to Mary DeAngelis –  Talent Program Correspondent at QVC.  How lucky was I to interview Mary.  She is so much fun!!  She works with In the Kitchen with David and also just recently worked with Mally on the Mally Beauty Show.  She has the best job ever!!
Mazzoni:   Tell us about your job with QVC and what is it like to work with David Venable?

DeAngelis:   My job title at QVC is Talent Program Correspondent.  This involves a few things! I work as the on-air & off-air host of our ITKWD live chat, I still produce for the show, and I also represent ITKWD and QVC sometimes on the road. I will broadcast live from different locations throughout the year. I have made cheese in Vermont, interviewed Food Network Chefs, I have wrangled mushrooms, I have flown kites at the Cherry Blossom festival, and I even got to work with the Muppets this year! Don’t get me started, I love my job and am full of too many stories.
Mazzoni:   What is your favorite kitchen item and food item from your shows?
DeAngelis:   I am sorry, but that is like asking a Mom to pick their favorite kid, so this one is tough! My husband and I love our Masterbuilt Smoker, I don’t remember what I did before Temp-tations, and Kansas City Steaks has to be in the house at all times. I must say, In the Kitchen with David introduced me to America’s Test Kitchen and I just love them. Their cookbooks are my go-to for everyday and “fancy-times” cooking. I recommend them to everyone.

Mazzoni:   Mary had a Mally Makeover:   What was it like having Mally do your make-up and being a part of her Approachable Glamour – Fresh face to fabulous episode??
DeAngelis:   IT WAS AMAZING!!  I am still flying high from that experience! Just imagine the very best girlfriend you ever had, multiply her by 1,000 and that is what it’s like to work and be friends with Mally Roncal. She is wildly talented, but she ‘s even more kind than she is smart. She asked me to be a part of her show and I LOST IT. Her entire team was generous with their time and super-patient with me being  a total goober. The Mally Team is a well-oiled machine. They welcomed me into the shoot, got my hair done, skin prepped, and onto the set in mere minutes! Mally is a BLAST to work with and made me look incredible. I DID NOT want to wash my face for WEEKS.. 
Mazzoni:   What are your two favorite Mally products that you can’t live without?
DeAngelis:  If you only have TWO minutes to get ready: put on a little concealer and even out your skin with some foundation. It makes you look like you got a full night’s rest! I learned that from my buddy. For concealer, I LOVE Mally’s Instant Erase Concealer with Brush.  For foundation, I LOVE Mally’s Ultimate Performance Full Coverage Liquid Foundation.  
About Mary
Mazzoni:    When you are not on TV, what are your go-to beauty products and what do you like to do for fun?
DeAngelis:   When I’m not on TV, I don’t wear a lot of make-up. I do try to take good care of my hair, skin, and nails though.
For my hair – I love Calista Tools. I use her Shampoo, Conditioner and the Perfecter pro grip heated round brush.   For my nails – LOVE the Mally Beauty Gel Kit.  Current color fav is “Be Back In a Fuchsia”, but my next color WILL BE “Melonista”! For my face – Clinique’s Dark Spot Corrector,  Algenist Firming Facial Cream and Dr. Denese HydroShield Eye Fix Under Eye Gel.
Mazzoni:   Do you love to cook?
DeAngelis:   I LOVE to cook! I am assuming it runs in my blood because I certainly have not had any formal training. My Granny was a Cordon Bleu School of Cooking grad and my mom had to feed hundreds of soldiers at a time when my Dad was in the Army. Every night in my kitchen is like an episode of “Chopped”. I think things like, “OK, we have fish sauce, marinated chicken and frozen veggies. GO!”
Mazzoni:    Can you tell us about being gluten free? How long have you been Gluten Free?  Do you feel better being Gluten Free?  You share a lot of Gluten Free recipes on QVC that look delicious!
DeAngelis:  Thank you so much!  I have been gluten free for about a year and a half on the advice of my doctor. I am non-celiac gluten intolerant and it has been a great change for me. I feel like I do feel better, but it has to do with a combination of things. I am eating gluten free, watching portions, exercising more and sleeping lots (ok, still attempting to sleep lots; that’s a work-in-progress)! I think all of us have a formula that we have to figure out and stick to in order to be at our best. I am still in the process of figuring out mine, but being gluten free was a big step toward getting all the way there!
I picked up a lot of great tips about gluten free cooking from social media. There are so many great folks to follow on Instagram and so many great GF blogs too! I have to say, though, the place where I got my core-education on gluten free cooking was from America’s Test Kitchen’s “How Can It Be Gluten Free” cookbook.
It’s just perfect. If you are looking for a place to start your gluten free journey, I highly recommend this book. Also, if you are a seasoned gluten free cook, this will help you with spicing up your rotation a bit.
Thank you for your kind words about my recipes! I had to re-think the way I was cooking and baking, so I thought I would share what I figured out with those that may be looking for the same things. I have over 20 gluten free recipes now in my blogs on QVC.com! I am always adding more and open to suggestions.
