Weekend notes
Due to a motor failure, the Sterling Pool will be closed today to make repairs. The pool is scheduled to re-open Saturday.
Judging continues Friday at the Reno County Fair. Other events for Friday include the Barnyard Olympics at 1 followed by the Ambassador Water Wars, both at Gottschalk Park. Friday evening events include the chuck wagon barbecue at 5 at the Horse Arena... this is a change from the schedule in past years... followed by the Ranch Rodeo at 7. During the rodeo they will have the Champion Foods Auction.
The weekend events at the Reno County Fair include various livestock shows through the day and early evening along with demonstrations and public speaking at 1. They will have Karaoke at 7 PM Saturday in Gottschalk Park. Sunday events include the beef show starting at 9... The antique tractor show begins at 4 in front of Prairie Pavilion, with the pedal pull at 5... check in at 4... and starting at 5 there will be a free family fun night including inflatables, with the 4-H youth dance from 8 until 9:30 at Prairie Pavilion.
Friday at the Stafford County Fair in Stafford begins with the 4-H and open class beef show and 4-H bucket calf judging. The Lions Club Barbecue begins at 5, with an ice cream social at 6:30 preceding the 4-H Premium Auction at 7. Saturday’s activities begin with a free community breakfast at 7:30, followed at 9 by the 4-H round robin. The parade begins Saturday evening at 5 and the fair wraps up with the demolition derby at 7:30.
The Marion County Fair gets underway this weekend with the 4-H dog show Saturday morning at 8 and the 4-H horse show Sunday evening at 6 at the Fairgrounds in Hillsboro and the Ag Challenge of Champions Sunday evening at 6:30 at the Marion High School AG shop
Preliminary events for the Kingman County Fair are also going on this weekend... with the 4-H horse show Saturday morning at 9 in the Kingman Expo Center indoor arena and on Sunday the 4-H dog show and agility trial, also at the expo center, and the public fashion revue at 3 at the Kingman Historic Theater.
The McPherson County Fair in Canton continues today. Feature events include a donation breakfast Friday and Saturday morning at the American Legion Hall. This evening’s activities start with the kids tractor pull at 6, the free barbecue and ice cream sandwiches at 6:30, and CPRA rodeo action at 8 in Tom Miller Arena... They will also have a chicken scramble for kids 7 and under and crowning of the fair queen. There will also be a dance following the rodeo at Kelly’s Bar and Grill in downtown Canton. Saturday's schedule begins with the beef and sheep shows. The fair parade begins at 6 in downtown Canton, followed by the 4-H round robin at 7 and CPRA rodeo at 8 with a dance to follow at Kelly’s Bar and Grill. The fair wraps up Sunday with the buffalo chip throw at 6 and Demolition Derby at 7 at Tom Miller Arena.
This weekend is the 40th annual Mobray Metric bike event in McPherson. Events begin Saturday morning with the Race around the Castle and Storm the Castle, which will leave from 536 S. 81 Bypass and go north from Mac on 13th Avenue, along with a Short Stack Ride departing from the Senior Center at 7:30... it goes to the Inman Senior Center for a breakfast and back. Sunday’s Mobray Metric Rides will also depart from the Senior Center area at 7:30... they will start in groups but return to town in small groups. The exact routes are traditionally kept secret until ride time. The Castle rides will be modified this year as due to road damage its not possible to get to the top of Coronado Heights.
