EdVentures And Mastercard Foundation Partner To Boost Egypt's EdTech Startup Scene

EdVentures, the investment arm of Nahdet Misr Group and a top EdTech venture capital firm in the MENA region, has recently announced a five-year collaboration with the Mastercard Foundation to introduce the Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellowship in Egypt. This project aims to revolutionize the African EdTech sector by utilizing digital innovation, inclusivity, and empowering youth, with a promise of making a significant impact on Egypt's educational, IT, and economic landscapes.
The selection process for the 2024 program involved reviewing more than 210 applicants from EdTech startups across various governorates in Egypt. After a thorough evaluation, 12 startups were selected for an 8-month program that includes specialized training, mentorship, workshops, networking opportunities, and access to courses. Each startup will be granted $60,000 in equity-free funding. Over the next three years, the fellowship plans to support a total of 36 EdTech startups, aiming to bring about positive changes in the education sector.
"We are thrilled to partner with the Mastercard Foundation, which reflects our impact in Egypt's EdTech sector," said Dalia Ibrahim, the Founder and CEO of EdVentures. "This partnership is crucial for the EdTech industry, aligning with our goal of promoting innovation and empowering young entrepreneurs. Together, we will continue to build a strong EdTech ecosystem in Egypt, reshaping learning experiences. We look forward to the upcoming cycles, each contributing to our shared vision of a brighter future for education."
Joseph Nsengimana, the Director for the Mastercard Foundation Centre for Innovative Teaching and Learning, commented, "Through our collaboration with EdVentures, we are improving access to quality education for underserved learners in Egypt and Africa through local technological solutions. In 2023, our EdTech Fellowship cohorts in South Africa, Nigeria, and Kenya impacted 2.6 million learners. We anticipate an even greater impact this year."
