slow paced pirate fantasy

follows a woman who’s grown up as the first mate & mercenary on the ship her brother captains

after a friend dies and they dock at a pirate-run island, she starts to question her brother’s treatment of her, and her past, and whether she could break away from what she’s used to

#caraway of the sea #aroaessidhe 2023 reads #euhh. it’s fine.#the writing is a bit rough/boring. the random flashbacks feel very clunky. not a ton of worldbuilding. MCs characterisation felt a bit disc #asexual books #(slightly vague in that regard - she's clearly aspec but hasn't quite gotten into like. fully addressing it)#Istg I saw the author call it sapphic #I found her tt & scrolled all the way down and she DID start by marketing it as sapphic and then stopped? (as far as what’s on thumbnails)#like if she’s bi sure but there’s not any indication of that & also it feels odd to promote it as sapphic without mentioning it’s m/f or bi #so I guess my expectations were off in that regard i was like who is this dude.#it’s also marketed as grim-cozy which is like. what does that MEAN #I think it just means small-scale/slow paced which is like. average tone of a fantasy romance #(not that this is 100% romance focused but yknow. the way stakes are never That high)
