Five years ago today Stephen won gold at 2018/19 Junior Grand Prix Final.
I think he’s ready to surpass the personal best scores he set there half a decade later.

Two years ago today Stephen won the 2018/19 Junior Grand Prix Final.
Brief updates
In case you missed it: the ISU announced last month that the 2021 ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships have been cancelled.
Southern California is under a stay-at-home order from today. Indoor recreational facilities are required to close. No word yet on what will happen with Great Park Ice, though the Sheriff of OC is not going to enforce Governor Newsom’s orders.
After getting an exemption for high performance athletes to train in regions under lockdown, Skate Ontario is filming the performances of their skaters competing at Challenge through the end of this week. A preliminary schedule for 2021 Skate Canada Challenge is posted. We await an entry list for confirmation of Stephen’s participation.

The Ubyssey (The University of British Columbia’s student newspaper) posted this photo of Stephen in their collection of best photos, in their year in review. The caption:

Stephen will be the first performer in the exhibition gala at 2018/19 Grand Prix Final, taking place on December 9, 2 PM PST.
His exhibition program was choreographed by Marie-France Dubreil and Samuel Chouinard back in May.
This isn’t the first time Stephen is participating in an exhibition after a competition - he did his SP at 2016 Coupe du Printemps as an exhibtion. However, this is his first time debuting a new show program after a competition, and his first new exhibition in 2.5 years. Hope he has loads of fun. :)
This program is in a PDF file here.

Just a little note: In link 2 above the Cyrillic transliteration of Stephen’s name is Стивен Гоголев, which is a bit different from the Степан Гоголев we had before. Which transliteration does Stephen prefer? We’re not sure. So we’re keeping both until we find out some day.

Photographer Richard Lam captured these cool shots of Stephen’s skates in the 2018/19 GPF gala. He was the first on the ice so all the tracings are his. You can see his blades are Gold Seal Revolution in the last photo. We’ll have to see if these photos end up being used somewhere because they are like stock photos, but since they are editorial images they cannot be used commercially.
