The maglev train, dubbed the T-Flight, was built by the state-owned China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (CASIC), New Atlas reported. Hyperloop trains work by pushing magnetically levitating pods through tunnels with very little air resistance.

The previous record holder for the fastest maglev train is the L0 Series SCMaglev in Japan, according to JRPass, which can hit a top speed of 375 mph (630 km/h).

To test the new train, CASIC built a track roughly 1.2 miles (2 kilometers) long in a low-pressure vacuum tube.[...]

In the T-Flight's second phase of testing, CASIC aims to extend the track to 37 miles (60 km) and allow the train to reach 621 mph (1,000 km/h).

At this theoretical top speed, the maglev train would be even faster than a passenger jet, which cruises at an average range between 575 and 600 mph (925 km/h and 966 km/h), according to Simple Flying.

The company's ambitions don't stop there, however, with plans for a connection between Wuhan and Beijing that can reach up to 1,243 mph (2,000 km/h), according to a video from 2018.

JR Pass Price Increase

Hey there! Just a heads-up, starting October 1, the prices for JR Passes in Japan are going up. But don't worry, I've got the details to help you out:

Buy JR pass ticket before 1 Oct

Old vs. New Prices:

Ordinary 7 days: Before ¥29,650, Now ¥50,000

Ordinary 14 days: Before ¥47,250, Now ¥80,000

Ordinary 21 days: Before ¥60,450, Now ¥100,000

Green (First Class) 7 days: Before ¥39,600, Now ¥70,000

Green 14 days: Before ¥64,120, Now ¥111,000

Green 21 days: Before ¥83,390, Now ¥140,000

Sales Deadlines:

If you're buying online, make sure to do it by September 25 to get the current price. And you can redeem your exchange order until December 24.

If you prefer in-person, physical travel agencies are selling until September 30.

Redemption and Activation:

After getting your exchange order, make sure to redeem it within 90 days. And remember, the activation date should be within 30 days of redemption.

Nozomi/Mizuho Upgrade:

Good news! You can upgrade to Nozomi and Mizuho services for a little extra.

Miyajima Visitor Fee:

Starting October 1, there's a small fee of ¥100 for visitors to Miyajima when boarding the ferry. Just keep some cash handy!

Planning Tips for JR Passes:

The 7-day and 14-day passes work best if you're hopping between regions or have some special activities in mind. For instance, a 7-day pass is perfect for a journey from Hokkaido to Kansai with stops in Tohoku and either Hokuriku or Chubu regions.

Nozomi/Mizuho Upgrade Ideas:

Upgrading for a direct ride from Tokyo to Hiroshima, or from Nagoya to Hiroshima or Hakata, is a great idea. Also, consider early morning or late-night travel between Kanto and Kansai for more flexibility.
