i wanted to know the exact line when koito suggests to tsukishima that they exchange menko (chapter 249).

the sentence: そんなに心配ならお互いのメンコを交換して肌身離さず気を張っておこう (sonna ni shinpai nara otagai no menko wo koukan shite hadamihanasazu ki wo hatte okou)

breakdown: そんなに心配なら if you're that worried お互いのメンコ each other's menko を交換して exchanging, swapping 肌身離さず carrying close to one's person, carrying at all times, implication of keeping it next to the skin 気を張っておこう let's steel ourselves.

my translation: "If you're that worried, then let's steel ourselves by exchanging menko and always keeping them close to us."

EH scans translation: "If you're that worried about it, then we can exchange our own menko and always keep them with us." (that's perfect, but i liked the part about steeling themselves.)

VIZ translation: "If you're worried, how about trading menko pieces for mutual encouragement?" (as usual leaving out a lot of detail for no reason, but i do like "mutual encouragement.")

analysis of what koito means: he wants to communicate something to tsukishima like, "we both feel weird about tsurumi now, but what's important is that we are closer and understand each other better than ever, so as long as we remember that we have each other, we can get through this." and he also wants tsukishima to look at the cool menko he made of himself and be impressed.

(and then tsukishima's reply is just, "I haven't made one, though.")

Getting into Golden Kamuy is such a wild experience. Started the series bc I love me a good historical fiction and I heard it had great and insightful native representation. And like...yeah those things are true. But nothing will prepare you for the absolute whiplash you'll get as this series continually whacks you over the head with an endless amount of tonally opposing storylines. One minute you're learning about native hunting techniques and spirituality and the next the author decides to insert a murder hotel mystery suplot??? A totally serious exposition scene where we learn information that might change the course of the entire story is undercut by a sea otter aphrodisiac induced homoerotic sumo wrestling match/implied orgy??? Whenever he gets bored, the author will just toss in a killer bear for no good reason. One of the main antagonists is a self-sabotaging catboy. The other antagonists are the most toxic polycule/borderline cult I've ever seen. The (in my opinion) most emotionally poignant scene of the series is set inside the carcass of a deer. Then they tell you one of the characters actually assasinated the czar of russia??? Jack the ripper is real and there also???

Anyway 10/10 everyone should watch Golden Kamuy I've never watched a more entertaining series in my life

Tokishige Usami always creeped me out…

This … little freak is one really … wow.

The fact he and the Jack the Ripper copycat had… a… whatever the hell was... That really made me feel super uncomfortable.

I have not felt that uncomfortable when Gon fought Hisoka for the first time and we all know that Hisoka was … really enjoying himself.

It’s one of my favorite fights in anime. Because the animation is so good but at the same time just… it was … flat out weird.
