The controversy began when Jaya Bachchan, a Samajwadi Party MP, expressed her dissatisfaction in Parliament after being addressed by her husband’s name, “Jaya Amitabh Bachchan.” During a session, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh used this name, prompting Jaya to clarify that “Jaya Bachchan” would suffice. Singh responded by stating that her name was officially listed with Amitabh as the middle name. The issue was reignited when Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar addressed her using the same full name during the ongoing monsoon session. Jaya remarked, “Sir, I hope you know the meaning of Amitabh. I mean, I am proud of the association with my marriage and my husband and of his achievements. But this is a new drama started by you all. This did not use to happen before.” Dhankhar replied that there was a provision to change her name on the election certificate.

In the resurfaced video, Aishwarya Rai appears visibly taken aback when an interviewer introduces her as “Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.” With surprise evident on her face, she says, “Ohoo… the titles… My god! Just regular Aishwarya, the way you have known me.” When asked if “Rai Bachchan” had become her official surname, she gracefully responds, “Aishwarya Rai as it has been professionally known who got married to Abhishek Bachchan. So, obviously, Aishwarya Bachchan. Make what you want to out of it,” flashing her trademark smile.

Aishwarya Rai, a celebrated actor and former Miss World, married Abhishek Bachchan, son of Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan, in 2007. The couple has a daughter, Aaradhya.

Speculations about potential family tensions in the Bachchan household have been circulating, particularly after Aishwarya and Aaradhya posed separately for the media at Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s recent wedding, while Abhishek and the rest of the Bachchan family appeared together. Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Jaya Bachchan on Monday once again raised an objection when Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar called out her full name in the House and labelled it as a “new drama” started in the Parliament.

She remarked, “Sir, I hope you know the meaning of Amitabh. I mean, I am proud of the association with my marriage and my husband, but I am just saying that I am very happy and proud of my husband’s achievements.”

Today in Politics: Haryana Crisis and Modi's Campaign Trail

As tensions rise in Haryana, the fate of the BJP government hangs in the balance. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address rallies in Maharashtra, Telangana, and hold a roadshow in Odisha.

PM Modi’s packed schedule includes a series of rallies and roadshows across three states. Starting with a rally in Nandurbar, Maharashtra, he’ll then move to Telangana for two more rallies before heading to Bhubaneswar for a roadshow.

In other campaign news, the Election Commission has ordered re-election at four booths following a mishap involving electronic voting machines in Uttar Pradesh. Samajwadi Party’s Akhilesh Yadav will also campaign in Kannauj, Kanpur Nagar, and Kanpur Dehat.

Vice President describes Mahatma Gandhi as Mahapurush and says Modi is the Yugpurush of the century

On Monday, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar talked about Mahatma Gandhi and said that he was the ‘mahapurush' of the last century. He further describes PM Narendra Modi as the ‘yugpurush' of this century.

“Mahatma Gandhi freed us from the slavery of the British through satyagraha and non-violence. India's successful Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken us to a path where we always wanted to be,” Mr Dhankhar said.

The VP made the statement while speaking on the birth anniversary celebrations of Jain mystic and philosopher Shrimad Rajchandraji.

“I want to tell you one thing. The mahapurush of the last century was Mahatma Gandhi. Narendra Modi is the yugpurush of this century,” Mr Dhankhar said.

He also unveiled a large mural of Shrimad Rajchandraji, known for his teachings on Jainism and his spiritual guidance to Mahatma Gandhi.

“One thing is common between these two great personalities, the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, and PM Narendra Modi. They have reflected with respect to Shrimad Rajchandraji,” Mr Dhankhar said.

“Forces opposed to the growth of this nation, forces that do not digest the rise of this country are coming together. Whenever there is something good happening in the country, they get into a different mode. This should not happen,” Mr Dhankhar said.

“The danger is very big. The countries which you see around (us), their histories are 300 or 500 or 700 years old, (while) our history is 5,000 years old,” he added.

Shah will lead a “Run for Unity” rally from Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in the nation’s capital to commemorate the birth anniversary, which is known as “Rashtriya Ekta Divas.” An oath of Unity was taken after the flagging off.

Recalling Sardar Patel’s role in bringing the nation together, Amit Shah asserted that the country’s first Home Minister is the cause of India’s unity. Shah mentioned in the speech how Sardar Patel tried to unite all the principalities that the British had divided during India’s independence.

Rajnath Singh celebrated in UP

At the “Run for Unity” rally in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh made an announcement on PM Modi’s potential launch of “Mera Yuva Bharat.”

As uproar increased in the House, Opposition parties staged a walkout. Mr. Dhankhar expressed his anguish on the conduct of Opposition members and left the House for a while. “For sometime I am not finding myself in a position to sit here…,” Mr. Dhankar said, adding he was leaving the House “with a heavy heart”.
