If I were to theoretically make a Jingly Menace x Knight comic I would probably do it in a more casual slice of life style while following a loose plot. Nothing too high stakes. Just fun times with possibly the occasional bit of angst thrown in if I’m feeling dramatic.

I don’t know if it will interest anyone but I thought I’d share the steps of my Foolknight portraits. If I’d thought about it I could have recorded time-lapses but oh well 😅

The hardest part of making a character for me is always naming them. They are my children and I want to make sure that it's perfect.

But when writing some notes about the Knight earlier I unintentionally referred to him as Augustine so I guess my subconscious finally decided for me 😆

At the king: thoughts on democracy? Just kidding, when did you realise those two were in love with each other?

I love the idea of basically half the castle eventually being in on the knight & jesters little flirtationship lol, like the jester will be putting on some damsel in distress act ("if only some big strong knight was here to help me!") and other knights will be like "..well captain, you did swear an oath to protect the king & his people, he's one of them 😉". Or alternatively, whenever the knight is without his helmet, he usually hears when the jester is getting close by his bells, but occasionally a maid will enter the same room as him and quickly go "your jester is on his way, make yourself presentable" aka don your helmet warning. im loving the dynamic of these two!

Everyone at the castle DEFINITELY picks up on it. Everyone loves some gossip and it’s a big will they or won’t they (some of the other knights have bets on if they’ll get together/when it will happen). Some of the bolder members of the castle may tease our dear knight like that but tbh he also has a bit of an intimidating reputation with his standoffish demeanor so not everyone is so bold. He seems so cool and mysterious but inside he’s also a dork internally panicking over his crush on a silly jingly man. 😆

Meanwhile the king is also by far their biggest shipper. He is constantly devising tasks for them to complete together so that they’ll be forced for spend more time together (he definitely doesn’t have high stakes placed on the betting pool).

Everyone talks about the first time Jester sees the knight without his helmet, but what about the other way around?

Is Sir Agustine ever going to see the Jester clean face?

Idk, maybe a vulnerable moment where our dear knight sees Jester taking a bath (maybe a river, or a pond) and actually sees his real face and notice how beautiful and delicate his features are and is out of breath and words and just stays there struck by the arrow of love

Augustine definitely will one day. And when he does he'll be stunned and speechless, but it will also be a moment of serious vulnerability for Jester. Augustine might be the one wearing a physical mask, but Jester has his own as well and despite the jovial face he puts on for everyone it's very hard to let those walls down and let someone actually see him.

i'm 👀ing at augustine's backstory and his half brother, do they hate each other because his noble half brother is a dick to the illegitimate son or for other reasons? also does said half brother ever visit the castle. how does that go if jingly menace happens to be around. there's new layers to delve into now and i will never be able to stop thinking about these guys.

Augustine’s half brother Caius is just an asshole. Very entitled, rich jerk who has always scorned Augustine for being evidence of their father’s unfaithfulness (obviously his mother had an influence in poisoning him against him when they were kids). He always felt the need to hold it above him that he’s their father’s “actual son” and heir while Augustine is just a mistake. Caius also finds it infuriating now that despite being a cast off Augustine has managed to become so close to the king.

I definitely intend to have his brother visit the castle at some point. There’s nothing like some family drama. I desperately want to work in a scene where Jester just smacks the shit out of Caius at one point for saying something rude to Augustine and Augustine just stands there in utter shock. He’s never seen Jester mad enough to actually throw hands but don’t you dare talk to his beloved knight like that. 😆

Hi i have a lot of questions and will probably ask more about your silly guys soon but:

Does the jester and knight have any siblings?

how did the knight get his job?

In some ceremonies, parties, or gatherings, the knight is out of his helmet, but the jester doesn't know or wouldn't recognize him, right? but wouldnt people say, "hello sir augustine!" to the guy with greyish-black hair? And wouldn't the jester notice? or is everyone so invested in this ship that they don't call augustine by his real name when he doesn't have his armor on so the jester won't notice?

Hey there!

1. Jester is an only child but Augustine has a half brother who he loathes and who loathes him

2. Speaking of family, Augustine is the bastard son of a Duke and at the age of seven he was sent off to become a page (mostly just to get him out of sight) and from there he began to train for knighthood. He and the current king became friends while he was a squire which cemented him a good place at court (along with being very skilled)

3. So there are multiple factors at play here- one being that Augustine is very prickly and seen as intimidating so mostly people just kind of leave him alone and wouldn’t greet him so casually (unless you’re an annoying jingly menace or the king), two, there are a lot of bets going on in the castle involving how things will play out between them and no one is willing to risk/ruin it by outing him (there is money on the line + this is the most entertaining thing to happen in a while outside of the most recent scandals so everyone is waiting with bated breath to see what happens)

not to spam ur inbox but I can't shake the thought of the knight pulling off like. One insanely smooth gigachad move in response to jester flirting and the jester then awkwardly flubs their next two to three social interactions trying to make it happen again in more romantic circumstances (for example by going to his quarters or smth but the knight doesn't have a room to himself. Or at least doesn't most of the time). Until returning to business as usual.

But yesssss. If the knight ever manages to respond to his flirtation smoothly then the jester would immediately become a flustered mess. He can dish it but he can’t handle it when it’s turned around on him.

Also like if the knight manages to be smooth I think either it was purely an accident or maybe the king helped coach him on it (the king ships it so much) because my guy is a cool knight up until the moment his crush flirts with him 😂

saw the ask where jingly menace puts his hat on the sleeping knights head and I raise you knight’s helmet is just barely tall enough that the bells are out of his line of sight, but also he’s just sleep deprived enough/maybe caught a fever (and jingly menace couldn’t feel it through the armour for obvious reasons and that’s why he fell asleep somewhere random) and doesn’t realize where the hat is

cue half delirious knight walking around trying to figure out where the jingling is coming from, like that blind cat looking for her spring toy that was stuck on her tail. just knight going “I hear jingly menace... but where is jingly menace?🥺”

what he really needs is a day off and maybe some soup lol but he needs to figure out this mystery first

OH MY GOD THIS IS THE CUTEST IDEA

Cue the jester eventually going to find him because it really shouldn’t have taken the knight THAT long to return the hat. He was definitely only asleep and not dead right???

Jester quickly realizes something is wrong with his dear knight and tries to get him to lay down to rest and take care of him but the Knight just utterly REFUSES even in his feverish frazzled state because he does not want to take off his helmet/armor

Jester: Just let me TAKE CARE OF YOU!

Knight: No

Jester: WHY ARE YOU THE MOST STUBBORN MAN I HAVE EVER MET!?!

At that point Jester definitely tries to wrestle him out of his armor but the knight is still stronger and they just wind up tangled on the bed with the Jester sprawled on top of him.

Jester: … fine. At least you’re laying down now. Just REST

Jester goes to get up but finds the knights arms locked around him because he likes him being there and he doesn’t want him to leave and is out of it enough to not care about propriety right now

Despite it being uncomfortable laying on a suit of armor the Jester stays because at least his stupid himbo is sleeping now
