Charlotte Ann Johnson, age 64, of North Wilkesboro, passed away Friday, November 22, 2019 at Wake Forest Baptist Health-Wilkes Regional. She was born April 22, 1955 in McDowell County, West  Virginia to Arthur Glenn Neil and Alstrelia Johnson. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Billy Ben Johnson, Calvin Ray Johnson and Dennis A. Newbill.
Charlotte is survived by her daughters, Alicia Johnson Rice and spouse Richard of Winston Salem, Danielle J. Valero and spouse Ramon of Greensboro; son, Treymayne Johnson of Asheville; grandchildren, Nakkio L. Smith and spouse Shaniqual, Nakouye N. Smith all of Winston Salem, Travion L. Johnson, Christopher Gilreath, Christina Gilreath, Isabel Johnson all of Charlotte, Analia Bravo of North Wilkesboro; brothers, Larry Barnes and spouse Carol of Roaring River, Darrell Johnson of North Wilkesboro, Norman Johnson and spouse Jamie of Moravian Falls, Christopher Johnson and spouse Shawn of Mt. Airy, William Johnson of North Wilkesboro, Aaron Johnson of New York; sisters, Dreama Comer and spouse Ray of Clarksville, Tennessee, Kim Johnson, LaTonya Johnson both of North Wilkesboro, Debra Gravely and spouse Charles of Bluefield, West Virginia; host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 29, 2019 at Miller Funeral Chapel with Rev. Casey Walker and Rev. James Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow in Scenic Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Miller Funeral Service from 12:00 until 1:00 on Friday, prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 222  South Church Street, Suite 336M, Charlotte, NC 28202. James Shumate,   81
James Billy Shumate, age 81, of Hays, passed away Sunday, November 24, 2019 at his home. Mr. Shumate was born December 30, 1937 in Wilkes County to Center and Verna Richardson Shumate. He worked for Wayne’s Farm for over 30 years as a truck driver. He was preceded in death by his parents; several brothers and sisters.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann Handy Shumate; his children, Kenneth James Shumate of Thurmond, Talmadge Wayne Shumate and spouse Penny, Johnny Ray Shumate and spouse Tonya all of Hays; Lisa Porter and spouse Terry of North Wilkesboro, Teresa Brewer and spouse Jon of Thurmond, Billy Jason Shumate and spouse Erica of State Road; sister, Betty Aulsbury of Hays; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Service will be private. Miller Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.
  Brenda Church, 72
Mrs. Brenda Kay Henderson Church, age 72 of North Wilkesboro passed away Sunday, November 24, 2019 at SECU Hospice Home in Yadkinville.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, November 30, 2019 at Second Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Dillard and Rev. Wiley Boggs officiating.  Burial will be in the Church Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:30 PM prior to the service at the church.
Mrs. Church was born July 27, 1947 in Iredell County to Mull and Frankie Keever Henderson.  Brenda was Phi Theta Kappa in college, world best cook, accepted with full honors to the University of Chapel Hill at age 59, she loved spending time with her grandchildren, best private detective, huge Tarheel fan and world’s best mother, grandmother and a caring loving wife.  She was a member of Second Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister; Paulette Cloer, a brother; Jerry Henderson and fur baby; Tiny.
She is survived by her husband; Eugene Church of the home, three daughters; Gina Hall and husband Gregory of Hays, Lori Church of North Wilkesboro and April Wilburn and husband Roger of Hays, two sons; Johnny Eugene Church of North Wilkesboro and Matthew Boyd Church and wife Haillee of Millers Creek, twelve grandchildren; Maria Church, Matthew Church, Monica Church, Brittany Church, Zoey Church, Reed Church, Cameron Hall, Noah Hall, Chance Kohlmeier, Autumn Transeau, Hunter Transeau and Philip Wilburn, four great grandchildren and a brother; Paul Henderson of Statesville

 Dwight Swaim, 76

Mr. Dwight Ervin Swaim, age 76 of Boomer, passed away Saturday, November 23, 2019 at his home.
Memorial services with Military Honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1142 will be private.
Mr. Swaim was born October 23, 1943 in Wilkes County to Robert Artis Swaim and Grace Bell Swaim.  He served in the United State Army during the Vietnam War. Mr. Swaim retired from Wilkes Telecommunications (Wilkes Telephone). He coached numerous Little League Teams and was a wonderful Husband and Father. 
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son; Brain Irving Swaim,  a sister; Georgie Lee Swaim Cothren and two brothers; Bobby Dean Swaim and James Calvin “Pete” Swaim.
He is survived by his wife; Brenda Kay Pardue Swaim of the home, a son; Robert Swaim and wife Erica of Bermuda Run, two grandchildren; Alexander Swaim and Charlotte Swaim. 
Flowers will be accepted. 
  Viola Jarvis, 95

Mrs. Viola Elizabeth James Jarvis, age 95 of Millers Creek, passed away Thursday, November 21, 2019 at her home.
Funeral services were November 24,   at Reins Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Chris Byrne officiating. Burial was in the Fishing Creek Baptist Church cemetery.  . 
 Mrs. Jarvis was born June 15, 1924 in Wilkes County to W.B. and Nellie Anderson James. She was a Homemaker where she loved to sew and garden. Mrs. Jarvis retired from L & L Manufacturing. She was a lifelong member of Fishing Creek Baptist Church and attended Welcome Home Baptist Church.
Mrs. Jarvis was preceded in death by her parents, husband; Richard Carson Jarvis, two sisters; Oma Laws and Charlotte Jordan and five brothers; Joe, Noah, Jesse, Calvin and Doug James. 
She is survived by two daughters; Libby Elledge and husband Benny of Statesville and Gloria South and husband Roy of Lexington, a son; Ernie Jarvis and wife Susan of Canton GA, three grandchildren; Jeff Elledge and wife Diane, Jaime Davies and husband Geoff and Julie S. Robinson and husband Gerald, eight great grandchildren; Ben Elledge, Nathan Davies, Emily Davies, Ava Robinson, Hannah Simpson, Emily Simpson, Mallory Simpson and Brooke Simpson, and two sisters; Jean Bell of West Virginia and Pauline Elmore of Roaring River.

   Gregory Alan Nilo, age 56

Gregory Alan Nilo, age 56, of Statesville, passed away Thursday, November 21, 2019 at Mill Creek Manor in Statesville. He was born February 19, 1963 in Wilkes County to Marcelino and Veda Royal Nilo. Gregory enjoyed country and gospel music and watching sports, especially the Atlanta Braves. He received many medals from the Special Olympics and enjoyed group home outings with all of his friends. Gregory loved his family and especially Christmas. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Ray, Jerry, Bill, Danny and Larry Nilo.
Surviving are his brothers, Bob Nilo of Rushville, Indiana, Jim Nilo and spouse Ann of Cleveland, N.C., Charles Nilo and spouse Michelle of Ocean City, Maryland; sisters, Faye Stone and spouse Jonah of North Wilkesboro, Angela Wilson and spouse Mark of Hudson many nieces and nephews.
Funeral was. Sunday, November 24  at Miller Funeral Chapel with Pastor Roger Wagner officiating. Burial   followed in Roberts Cemetery in McGrady.

Danny Hunter Ferguson, age 85, of Millers Creek, passed away Thursday, November 21, 2019 at Universal Health Care of King. He was born July 1, 1934 in Giles  County, Virginia to Oather Harding and Thelma Calloway Ferguson. Danny was a member of Cricket Baptist Church and retired as a truck driver with Gardner Mirror for 35 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bud Ferguson; and sisters, Aliene Clemmons, Jean Williams and Peggy Smith.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Ellen Testerman Ferguson; daughters, Pamela Ferguson Thompson and spouse Brent of Hudson, Lisa Diana Carson Ollis and spouse Marty of Bristol, Dana Ferguson Edwards and spouse Kenneth of King; step-daughters, Tammy Wolfe and spouse Jason of Mt. Pleasant, Janet Carroll, Melissa Royal and spouse Scotty all of North Wilkesboro; sister, Nancy Boyles of Rocky Mount; nineteen grandchildren; several great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was November 24,   at Miller Funeral Chapel with Rev. Joe Farmer officiating. Burial   followed in Mountlawn Memorial Park.   Flowers will be accepted. Miller Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.  
 Thelma Isom, 94

Mrs. Thelma Lee Nordan Isom, age 94 of Wilkesboro passed away Thursday, November 21, 2019 at her home surrounded by her loving family. 
Funeral services were  November 24,   at Wilkesboro Church of Christ with Pastor Lowell White officiating. Private family entombment will be held in Scenic Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM until 2:45 PM prior to the service in the church fellowship hall. 
 Thelma was born October 5, 1925 in Harnett County to Deb Nordan and Cora Wilson Nordan. She was a loving Wife, Mother, Grams and Friend.  Thelma was a wonderful housekeeper, cook and a devoted member of the Wilkesboro Church of Christ. 
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son; Ronald Lewis Gardner, a daughter in law; Edna Gardner and two sisters; Eloise Guy and Melba Langdon.
She is survived by her husband of sixty four years; Billy Isom of the home, a daughter; Dani Gail Isom of Winston Salem, three sons; Thomas Lee Gardner of Raleigh, Dale Lloyd Isom and wife Michelle of Wilkesboro and David L. Isom and wife Katrina of Colorado, twelve grandchildren; Missy Gardner Holland, Tony Gardner, Gina Gardner Allen, Kevin Isom, Daniel Isom, Caitlen Isom Wurderman, Brittney Isom, Morgan Isom Bass, Kellen Isom, Connor Isom, William Isom and Elizabeth Isom, twelve great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and a daughter in law; Carolyn Gardner of Raleigh.

 Alvin Johnson, 62

Alvin “Dale” Johnson, age 62, of Ronda, passed away Monday, November 18, 2019. Dale was born October7, 1957 in Surry County to Johnnie Isaac and Annie Sue Soots Johnson. He was preceded in death by his mother, and sister, Nancy Sue Johnson.
Surviving are his son, David Johnson of Ronda; his father, Ike Johnson of Ronda; sisters, Katherine Johnson, Lois Ann Johnson, Jennifer Johnson Brown all of Ronda; brothers, Charles Dean Johnson of Ronda, John Johnson of Arlington, Joe Johnson of Elkin; grandchildren, Dailen Isaac Johnson, Ashir Naiten Johnson, Austin Isaac Johnson; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside service was Friday, November 22,   at Ronda Baptist Tabernacle Church Cemetery . Flowers will be accepted. Miller Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.  
  Ruth Gray, 67

Ruth Gray, lifelong resident of Wilkesboro died November 17th following an extended period of declining health due to Alzheimer's disease. She was born May 27, 1950 to the late Russell Gray, Jr. and Annie Vannoy Gray. She was predeceased by a brother Russell Gray lll.
She is survived by her brother Jim Gray and wife Mary Iva of Durham, NC. She is also survived by a nephew David Gray and wife Hannah and their children Anne and Walter of Richmond and by a niece Martha Gray Wiehe and husband Kevin of Durham and their sons Elliot and Emmett. Also surviving is a special cousin Beth Gray Ferguson of Mooresville and her children Mary Elizabeth, Gray and Eleanor.
She had a 30 year career teaching in the Wilkes County Schools at North High School, Woodward Jr High School and Wilkes Central High School. She was a parishioner of St. Paul's Episcopal Church of Wilkesboro where she served a term as president of the ECW and served as the clerk of the vestry. She served on the Wilkesboro Historical Preservation Committee and was a trustee of Old Wilkes, Inc. At one time she was an avid golfer. A great pleasure was her home flower garden from which she loved to share bulbs and clippings with other garden enthusiasts.
A memorial service conducted by the priest-in-charge Kedron Nicholson and the Rev. Susan Whittington was November 23rd at St. Paul's Episcopal Church.

Mrs. Patricia Ann “Patsy” Eller, age 64 of North Wilkesboro, passed away Thursday, November 14, 2019 at Forsyth Medical Center. 
Funeral services were November 17,   at Cricket Baptist Church with Rev. Randall Milsaps and Rev. Steve Bufkin officiating.   
Mrs. Eller was born June 12, 1955 in Wilkes County to “T.C.” Eller and Mary Frances Dillard Eller. She was retired from Tyson Foods. Mrs. Eller was a member of Cricket Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; Bill Hawkins.
She is survived by a daughter; LeAnn Adams and husband Johnny of Millers Creek, a son; Sam Hawkins and wife Carrie of North Wilkesboro, four grandchildren; Ashley Minton, Libby Adams, Grant Adams and Olivia Hawkins and three sisters; Geraldine Staley and husband Ed, Martha Lynn Lester and husband Jim and Teresa Minton and husband Shane all of Millers Creek.
